Only my dear colleague Thok would think to swagger into an area of combat and complain about uncomfortable levels of noise. If I dared to state such denigratory remarks against my associates, I would claim him little more than an unreasonably and gluttonously schizoid individual whose only real use is his great skill in drawing enemy fire with his ceaseless verbal abuse. However, thankfully, I am a kind man of gentle disposition, and will refrain from such cruel and pointless jibes, as all real gentlemen are forced to do.

We have more pressing matters at hand than Thok's inanity, and, though I never believed myself possible of thinking in such a manner, I dare say we should focus on trying to sort this quagmire of a battle out. First, and foremost, attempt to get myself in a situation of advantage with local law enforcement.

Sir, I assure you no such bribes will be needed,” my voice is apologetic as I speak to the Toa of Fire, thought not overly so, nuanced with a bit of reservation and subtly accentuated with the fear of a man attacked and unsure of who he may truthfully call friend. I believe any statement of its sheer convincing genius is unnecessary. “I can not speak for these other Skakdi, but I am more than happy to cease violent activities,” as the last syllable slithers from my virulent tongue, my Lava Launcher groans slightly, the entirely faux “powering-down” sound working flawlessly, as I slip my Zamor Launcher's ammo out of the contraption's firing chamber.

I assume you are the Ta-Koro Guards?” I do not smile in what would be an unquestionably terrible attempt to reassure them, but stare gravely, as any concerned citizen would. “If so, I submit myself to your authority and await further justice.

This should prove most interesting, especially if anyone else decides to try to flee via two handfuls of sand and what may be the most terrible use of the Huna I have ever encountered.

IC(Roshinua - Beach)

Rosh sped up his backstep towards the sled a bit as the Skakdi stood down. Whether he was being genuine or not had yet to be determined, but the detective could not help sighing in relief.

"We appreciate your graciousness. As of right now, you've done nothing but defended your lives and your property in the eyes of the law."

IC: "The Wanderer"

The cloaked cloaked (invisible and wearing a cloak) Toa folded his arms as he watched the various fools, both Guardsmen and Piraka, babble amongst themselves. At a good one hundred meters away, floating just over the open water, he couldn't hear anything of what they were saying. However, he was always impressed by the ability of the so-called Guard to somehow converse with the enemy. Once, he had been a Toa like them. He had never questioned the Toa code - if he had been in the armored shoes of the Toa of Fire below, he too would have presumed that the Skakdi were innocent before guilty. Unfortunately, the fickle events of fate had changed things, and the Toa of Magnetism could not tell where he stood as a Toa. He had hoped that his self-imposed exile had cleared his mind of his sins, but it most certainly had not. If anything, it had given him time to brood and for his darker thoughts to brew unhindered. When the events in Ta-Koro cleared up, he thought that it would be best for him to return to the deserts of Po-Wahi.

Ic: "And you're the inconsiderate prick with mommy issues," Modera shot back so quickly smoke seemed to waft from lips. But then her fire faded as quickly as it erupted as she took another bite from her gyro, assuaging her nerves with each mastication.

She swallowed, nearly instantly metabolizing the food into energy. "I think we can get along juuuust fine, then. Question: Have you been bored out of your miiiiind?"

IC: Motini - Ta-Koro

Mot gave Modera a bit of a look, " 'll answer that question with another question," Mot leaned in a little, "Do you know how many hours it takes before the desire to burrow a sword into your eye-ball takes over because 'reaching that limit pretty soon in this town."

IC: "I do," Modera replied assuredly. "One hundred and ten for non-native visitors, minus fifteen for those not used to the heat, five for those not from Onu-Koro, twenty for the lonesome doves who can't stand a social city on their own, another five if they're an introvert, plus a one-in-two hundred chance for an added forty-three hours if the person found what they came for, whiiiiich I bet hasn't happened for you, so. Rogues and criminals suffer an added thirteen hour penalty, minus three more for anxiety if they already got caught once before. Two if they're poor, one if they're lost, ten if they don't have a place to stay. Which puts you at right about... Mmm, thirty-five-ish hours in town.

"I'm about ready to leave this place myself, so when were finished let's leave together. But right now, finish your food, mkay?"

Motini asks, arms spread, "I'm not your , don't tell me what to do."

She paused, snapping up her own order into her hand, "I'm coming with cause I still haven't found anybody that sells those wipes 'uh yours for as cheap as you do."

Jaller was about to respond to Stralix, when they rounded the corner and encountered Loren. The Ta-Matoran nodded to the De-Toa, altering his angle so he could see both officers properly. His mouth was set in a grim line, his muscles taut, prepared for the action he seemed to expect. It was an ingrained reaction, one honed by decades.

And very hard to shake.

"Lieutenant, Specialist. Lieutenant, do you agree with Specialist's assessment?"

IC:

"Reason for wanting to join?" The secretary asked, looking up to Kidona. "And what is your skill set?"

Kidona considered the the secretary and nodded

"Well I would rather assist in justice than making money off it as a mercenary."

However as she heard the second question she considered while tapping her chin

"My skill set includes the use of axes and pistols. But i am also patient and not unwilling to fight. I would also consider myself an excellent marksman."

Loren- Ta-koro

IC: "My contact with the subject was somewhat limited due to the intervention of a second skakdi. However, before Specialist Stralix showed up I was able to observe him before engaging in combat. When the fight started, there were at least three civilians that had joined in the fight. He had them unconscious out or out of the fight inside of five minutes. The subject was able to do this with limited use of his weapons if at all. I'm not sure how, but he was able to teleport around the battle field in a similar manner to that of a Kualsi."

He paused for a second, composing the next part of his report in his mind.

"In addition to being a highly capable combatant, he seems to show a knowledge of tactics beyond that of your normal hired killer. When I tried to organize the civilians in an attempt to prevent them from killing themselves on him he immediately redirected his attacks towards me."

"I serve the weak. I serve the helpless. I am their sword and their shield. If you want to strike at them, you must go through me, and I am not so easily moved."

Motini leaned back with a hard frightened look on her face, grabbing her katana with an intentional velocity, whipping the blade up to knock aside Modera's hand with the flat edge of the blade.

Ic: Modera's hand was swept aside by the flat of the katana and smacked down onto the table. She yelped quickly in surprise before withdrawing her hand and wiping her the spit off her finger with a napkin. "Wowwww, okay, so it does bother you. Geez, I gotcha. Guess it was too much for you to just say so. I mean gawd..." Motini was clearly one constantly on edge, always quick to act and pounce on threats, real or perceived, which Modera found to be... endearing and cute to say the least. She liked someone feisty, just to see how far she could go with them, maybe even push them someplace fun.

So she tossed her wet napkin at Motini.

IC: Vezok

My smile broadened subtly as "innocent" was mentioned, though I otherwise kept up the air of unconcerned boredom, completely indifferent from the world around. Of course, mentally, I was focused intently on the Toa Maru of Fire before me, channeling my energies to studying him, or rather a certain part of him, closely.

Of course, by now, I'd lost a few of the powers gained from the previous battles, and I dumped whatever spare energies were left over. I needed room for this one. A lot of room.

"I do hope this doesn't take too long," I commented idly, the process almost complete, "I'm a very busy man, you see."

IC (Oreius, Inu)

"It won't," the Toa replied. "Not if you have nothing to hide. The Guard appreciates your cooperation."

IC (Oreius, Inu)

Toa and Skakdi continued to stare each other down. The two were polar opposites: one stood straight and tall, or at least as straight as his hunch allowed; the other leaned casually against a wall, yawning and occasionally inspecting his fingernails.

This deadlock continued for a minute or two before the sound of rapid footsteps and the clatter of weapons and gear reached their ears. The sound was followed by the appearance of a squad of four Guards turning the corner, arms at the ready. Their leader, a Toa of Iron carrying a spear, saluted as he approached.

"Toa Oreius, sir. We saw your signal and came as soon as we could. What's the problem?"

"I'd like you to take this Skakdi in for questioning," came the calm reply. "Related to the disturbance in the the middle of the city not ten minutes ago. He's made no threats towards myself or others, but he was running across the rooftops when I found him."

"Yes, sir."

The Toa made a few quick hand signals, so rapid as to almost be indecipherable, but his squad knew them well. They followed behind him, weapons at the ready, as he approached the Skakdi in question.

"We're going to escort you to the station, sir," he said. "Come along, and no funny business."

I spared a single eye to glance up at the approaching group of Guards, that one eye flicking across them, taking in information at a lightning fast pace. I could take them. Immobilize them and then make an effective, if not partictularly clean, getaway. Not without effort, of course. It would seem that this Koro's police force wasn't completely incompetent. Though now, with my newfound power, I could take them.

All I would need is a distraction, something quick. A flash, or perhaps a spark. Maybe injure one of the Matoran. Nothing too fancy, just enough to startle that Toa. He would be the immediate problem. His coloration suggested one of Magnetism or Iron, either one enough to ruin my day quickly. Distract him, and then get close, his spear won't do him any good in this alleyway. Knock his weapon aside, and then a quick blow to the throat or sternum, stagger him before he has a chance to use his powers. Then kick him while he's down, shatter his Kanohi or break and arm, something to keep him there for the time being. By then his friends will be reacting, I'll have to circle around, keep one in between me and the Maru.

One of them has a shortsword, I should be able to maneuver around him, or above if I have to. I'll have to watch for that one's halberd, perhaps a blast of impact vision to knock him around, though I could just as easily cook his armor. Either way, I'd be too close for him to dodge it. That should free up room behind me, enough to backpedal from the Maru. If that last knows how to use that crossbow, then he'll fall back too, probably into the street. I could rush him, though the Toa may be recovering around then, a quick blast of fire then. It may not hit, but it'll stop him from bringing anything to bear against me. The crossbowman would be problematic, not if I--

My fantastical getaway scene was cut short, as the grey-armored Toa who I recently had the pleasure of incinerating in my head, walked up to me. He seemed fairly confident, and why shouldn't he? I was but one being, and the Koro's mascot was standing not two bio away.

"Come now," I replied, holding my hands before me in surrender, "I wouldn't even dream of it."

IC: Mekana

Mekana had long since left the little inn of Ophaim's. Pie was great and all but she had things to do, she had services to offer, like smuggling iStones, and money to be made.

Lots and lots of money.

In fact, she was thinking of money so much she didn't notice the giant foot that she stumbled over, falling onto her hands and knees. "Gaw!"

She looked up to see who she'd been unfortunate enough to cross paths with. Her face paled slightly.

Oh great, it's a guard....a really big guard.

It had taken Lana months to find a new place to call home. After her last tavern had been burnt down by a Toa of fire who, in her mind, was a complete fool, she had been searching for somewhere new to set up shop. Ta-Wahi beckoned her more so than the rest of the island, for reasons that Mata Nui might not even know. The charred forest, the lava flows, every single bit of inhospitably the landscape offered only drew the Vo-Matoran.

When Lana came over a rise and saw the walls of Ta-Koro, she knew she was settled. This would be her new home.

Careful to keep her excitement at finally having arrived at her previously unknown destination hidden, she made her way toward the fortified gate, wondering what she might have to go through to get inside.

At least it's well-fortified. She thought to herself. Won't have to worry about some crazy Rahi blowing the place up like that one time... She suppressed a shudder at the memory of another time her tavern had been burnt to a crisp, and continued on her way, wondering who she should talk to about not only getting inside the Koro, but also about starting her business within it's walls.

The Akiri of Fire listened to Loren's report attentively, his expression giving few hints as to his thoughts. When the Toa finished, he was silent for several long moments. The Matoran crossed his arms, drumming the fingers of his left on the upper arm of his right, mouth angled into a slight scowl as he thought. Almost without warning, his eyes refocused, and he looked to Loren again.

"Thank you for your report. I shall want you to report with me to the Investigative Corps shortly so we can get a sketch of his appearance." He swiveled slightly on the spot to speak to Stralix.

"Specialist Stralix, you may have seen the signs regarding a technology expo in Po-Koro. I would like you to attend as Ta-Koro's representative, and see what you can learn."

The Toa ignored the Skakdi's obvious sarcasm: he had dealt with criminals long enough so as to be relatively immune to their verbal sniping. He did his job, and he did it well.

Two members of his squad marched behind the Skakdi, weapons at the ready, as they began the short trip back to HQ. He walked beside the Skakdi, and the last man walked in front, clearing the way of curious citizens and bystanders.

Oreius frowned as he watched them walk away. He couldn't explain it, but his gut told him that this Skakdi wasn't to be trifled with. Perhaps it was simply bravado, but he'd appeared entirely at ease, even as he was being escorted away. Too confident.

Inu was quiet. He did not know, either, but if the Skakdi was dangerous, then he noted that they had put their own men in danger.

He followed at a distance.

"Perhaps later we can talk about this." I smirked, best not dwell on things like this. I picked up a few case files, something to work on, something to get the boulder that was sitting on my chest off. Something caught my eye, just outside the window, I could see something like a flare, and not too soon afterward, I could hear the footsteps of people moving through the hallway, probably out to aid whoever had sent out the call. I originally joined this Guard because it was steadier than the normal mercenary work, because I had a friend in Liacada, and because I felt I had a future here...but now Liacada was on sabbatical, Angelus never responded, and I was alone again. A woman had passed through here I think her name was Vera, said she was looking for people with a skill set similar to mine, I told her I was currently tied to the Ta-Koro Guard as a Detective. Though if she could find him, Pae would be the best choice, and if she did manage to find him, to please send him my way. Especially now, when every night was just one more drink than the last, just one more attempt to suppress what I was feeling. I needed to feel like I belonged, and with Xa-Koro lying at the bottom of the sea, I really couldn't go home again. I needed this, I needed to get my mind on the work and not on those thoughts, bury them so I could keep moving, keep myself alive.

-------------------

"Heeeey Oreius? Who's big, blue, and ugly?" I chuckled, walking up to him, my badge on my chest and my weapons strapped to my sides. A large blue Skakdi held his hands up ready, clearly I had missed all the interesting parts of this, anyways it was part of the job description, helping the Maru even though he could probably tear off one of this Skakdi's arms.

"Unknown," the Maru returned, shaking Kino's hand. "Found him running over the rooftops. Figured he might have something to do with that battle in the streets. Can't be too careful."

They had both been on the team that had hunted the bomber. They knew.

"I am actually neither of those things...besides I'm just...strolling." Mekana was running out of excuses, she couldn't tell the guard what she was really doing.
