IC: (Tarotrix/Tuara's Home)

It was a nice place, Taro thought. Have the door guard salute him, he entered the building. As he walked in, and saw Skyra. There were three in the building besides him, Dorian, Commander Daring and a Ta-Toa with a odd mask. He'd heard the stories of Dorian, Joske  The Maru and the people around that group. He knew it wasn't Orieus Maru, as even Tarotrix could recognize the hero on sight. Joske Nimil was missing, so he discounted that idea. But whoever it was, they seemed to be of decent character. Leaning his shield and spear against the wall (They were near useless in close quarters, anyways) he put his helmet to his side and walked to Skyra.

He heard noise from above, and noticed Skyra was listening. She would provide him with some answers, he thought.

"Commander Daring," he said in a low, but noticeable tone. Taro was mentally slapping himself for only realizing who she was a couple of minutes ago. "Is Mr. Shaddix in any condition to speak? And who was the Toa that brought him into this building?"

I occasionally return to BZP for a nostalgic trip back. Hit me up on discord if you need anything.

OOC: Just for reference Skyra is at the top of the stairs sitting at the doorway to Dorian's room where Dorain and Joske are, just a minor detail.

IC: Skyra

Oh boy I was looking forward to this. I thought dryly, while I'd asked questions to witnesses of crime scenes plenty of times in my career I hated being the one having to answer them. Especially right now. Of course, I knew the matoran was only doing his job, couldn't fault him for that.

"Right now I think Dorian needs rest, though you can talk to me all you like." I wished I hadn't said that. "The other Toa is Joske Nimil."

OOC: Uuuuuuugggg! I was hoping Tyler would post BEFORE this happened...

Sorry kiddies, that's my cue.

IC

Toa Joske

Location: Ta-Koro, Guard residential district

Chapter One: Crystals, Temples, Secrets... oh my.

It looked like Dorian was about to say something, but at that moment I heard noises downstairs, followed by the sound of footsteps walking upstairs.

"Commander Daring," came the voice, sounding suspiciously similar to that Guard Officer he saw outside, "Is Mr. Shaddix in any condition to speak? And who was the Toa that brought him into this building?"

"Right now I thing Dorian needs rest, though you can talk to me all you like."

Out of the corner of my eye I say Skyra - who had been sitting in the doorframe, listening in - stand up and turn, addressing the individual. I froze, seeing that her mouth didn't completely close.

Oh no, no no no, don't you dare-

"The other Toa is Joske Nimil."

I bit my lip to prevent myself from saying anything I would later regret. Skyra and her big mouth! That's now two! I couldn't reveal myself, not yet... ###### her! And that Rahkshi!

When I had a moment I would give her a piece of my mind. A LARGE piece.

I turned to Dorian, giving him a wink on a nod. "Hold that thought." I whispered, barely audible even to him. "I'll be back. Back door?"

All he did was give me a knowing look and tilted his head towards the window. With a bob of acknowledgement I stepped towards the open window and with practiced ease slid myself out of it as Skyra unwittingly kept the officer busy. Without any fuss I gently landed, making my getaway without anyone else noticing.

There were some other things I needed to do yet before I was willing to become publicly known again. Quietly I disappeared amongst the rows of street apartments...

[Ta Koro, Guard Residential District]

“Go on inside,” Lucira said to Jolek.  “I’m make one more round to see if there’s any more property damage.”

She glanced up and down the buildings, noting any broken windows or busted mains that would need city attention.  She also glanced around the house, noting its location for future reference.  It would be good to know where such notorious individuals lived.

She was just about to go inside, when a small puff of dust caught her attention.  Lucira crept around the side of the building just to catch a glimpse of red and gold vanish around the corner.  Mahi dung.  Maybe she should have asked Jolek to come with her.  There was no time however; she took off after the someone who had decided to take a little stroll as fast as her legs could carry her.

IC: "Sure thing. Catch you in a bit." he said as he stepped inside and made his way through the rather damaged house (what had happened to that poor piano?) to stand at the foot of the stairs, looking up at Tarotrix and Skyra. Guessed his job here was to act as an... enforcer? Didn't seem like too much of that would be necessary, after sizing this Commander Daring up. She didn't look very keen on being a threat at the moment, which was good, considering you didn't become a Commander of anything without some know-how of how to hurt things.

With that in mind, Jol Highwind folded his arms, more to keep them busy than anything else, and was content to let the actual guardsman do his thing for now. No sense stepping in where he wasn't needed. Besides, like Angel told him. Support.

IC: Saeren

"War is all you know?" Saeren suddenly laughed. "I'd love to see what our local medical examiner, a rather intimidating Skakdi herself, would say about that." In more serious tone he admitted, "This is what I chose, and it is one of the few things I'm good at. It isn't entirely..." he mulled and murmured over his words before going on, "what I had in mind at first, but I had my own little issues with choice of career path." Saeren moved the iron splints from loops on the right side of the bag to loops on the left side, and was done.

IC: Natharius.

Saeren wasn't going to be persuaded, and Natharius wasn't really sure what he'd been trying to persuade him of to begin with. Mostly he'd just been trying to mess with him to keep himself amused, but that wasn't working. Time to change tactics. Time for a spot of brutal honesty. "You might be right. War isn't all we know, but it tends to be all we're good atAfter I lost this," he waved his robot arm, "I decided I'd had enough of a life of endless war, death and violence. I came to a new land, this 'island paradise', only to find war here as well. I stayed out of the Koros until things calmed down and decided today it might be a good idea to venture into Ta-Koro. I was planning to start a metal-working business. Instead, I'm here, likely facing a prison sentence for aiding a wanted criminal..."

He sighed to himself, "Sometimes you just can't fight nature." he straightened suddenly, turning to Saeren, "but enough about me. What's about you? What's your story?"

IC: Natharius.

"Well, that's a shame, but it's nice to meet a Toa who's managed to find a way to help people that doesn't involve violently annihilating anyone who doesn't agree with them," Natharius replied, suddenly realising that he'd run out of things to say. "How do you think they're going with Grokk? Will he survive?"

Despite his best intentions for the latter, he still found himself concerned for the other skakdi.

IC: Saeren

Thank you, Mata Nui. With this brief foray back into his element, Saeren had an answer ready and waiting for Natharius. "At this point they should have reopened his chest to better assess the damage. That will require direct intervention of a well-practiced Sana user. The healer will probably go ahead and deal with the wound to his side as well, and maybe the burn, but the rest of his wounds can be allowed to heal on their own." Saeren touched his own chest where Grokk had been injured. "Even after healing, the doctors will probably want to keep him under observation for a while: one does not simply walk away after getting one's chest wall punctured*. He will probably survive, but if the allegations of Turaga killings prove correct..." Saeren trailed off. Even someone who had kept themselves away from the various Koro during the last troubles would know the kind of sentence that the murder of a Turaga would carry. His voice quiet again, "I think you should hope for your friend's sake that the label of 'Turaga killer' is a case of mistaken identity."

Soon, the two came upon a dumpster towards the back of an alleyway some three blocks from the hospital. It seemed quite far to be an entrance, but it would get them there all the same.

IC: Saeren

"I'll escort you to a holding cell after you've been released by the doctors," the Guard replied. "After that, you'll be interviewed at the earliest opportunity, this is a fairly busy time for the Guard."

Saeren gave the same uncomfortable smile. "I wouldn't know about the Guard. I got temporarily conscripted as a medic with them for the Piraka attack, but otherwise working at this hospital is the closest connection I have to them."

So he IS alive.

The rumors lied, it appeared Joske Nimil wasn't dead, buried under a Kohi stadium, or a zombie of Echelon. He was alive, and with Mr. Shaddix. It was certainly a strange situation, to say the least. Trusting in the Commander to tell the truth, he took out a notepad and expensive fountain pen. Dorian, he felt, would do good with rest. In Joske's hands, Taro assume he'd be safe.

"Commander, could you tell me your account of the battle?"

IC: Skyra

I took a breath, I was only gonna sum up what happened, but it was still gonna be quite a mouthful.

"Well, earlier today I came to this address looking for Dorian. He wasn't here, instead I found those two Skakdi making themselves at home, claiming they were gonna have a 'surprise party' or whatever for Dorian. I didn't really buy it, so I left here to find Dorian. When me and Dorian came back the Skakdi called Grokk had this whole elaborate prank set up for Dorian. Long story short Dorian ended up shooting at him, then they talked for god knows how long until Joske showed up out of nowhere and convinced me and Dorian to leave. Well while we were leaving Grokk got really angry, guess he didn't like being ignored, and attacked Dorian in the street. That other Skakdi Natharius decided to take Grokk's side and I ended up shooting him twice with this rifle here before he finally backed down." I patted the rifle that was strapped around my shoulder for the moment.

"Dorian and Grokk fought each other rather savagely for a while until around when you guys showed up. Dorian pretty much had Grokk's life in his hands at that point. For a moment I thought he might..." I had some nasty flashbacks about a heart getting ripped out of someone's chests, those things always showed up at inconvenient times! I wondered if I should have made an appointment with a doctor.

"...ya know...killed him, he showed some impressive restraint."

He'd seen what that looked like. Make no mistake about it, while no people had ever been attacked in his experience, he'd still seen more than enough carcasses of Rahi to know that they mauled the out of whatever they thought looked tasty.

Lenat- Ta-koro- Ta-koro Technology Emporium

IC: An excitable little fellow. Lenat had almost let the Matoran have a magnetic pulse from his glove when Danaar pulled back. It seemed that personal space and not touching other people's things was not one of the possible employee's strong points.

Lenat was silent for several seconds as he considered the situation.

"All right, I'll hire you. Knowledge of metallurgy will be useful in Ta-koro."

Loren- Ta-koro- Tuara's House

IC: Loren had been about to follow Tarotrix into the house when he caught the sound of crunching glass around the back of the house. Despite his problems with the Matoran Guardsman, Loren knew that Tarotrix would (probably) be able to handle the questioning of the Toa inside the house.

A couple of maskjumps later and he was on top of the roof, catching sight of a flash of red and gold. Shortly followed by Lucira as she dashed after whoever it was that was running away. Moving quickly, Loren began running and maskjumping across the rooftops after the duo.

The chase continued for several minutes before their quary slowed down, seemingly convinced that he had lost any pursuers. Loren crouched atop a nearby roof and observed. If Lucira had lost the trail he would step in, otherwise the Toa of Sonics would simply act as backup.

"I serve the weak. I serve the helpless. I am their sword and their shield. If you want to strike at them, you must go through me, and I am not so easily moved."

Toa Joske

Location: Ta-Koro

Chapter One: Crystals, Temples, Secrets... oh my.

The sound of rapid footsteps signaled pursuit, a silent sigh escaping my lips. Of course the Guard would show up to question Dorian about the fight, but I was hoping it would take them longer than that to show up. Clearly their reaction times and efficiency had improved.

But how about their running?

I whipped around a building, out of the corner of my eye I saw a short, stocky female Ta-Matoran trying to give chase. I had to give her full marks for attempting to keep up with me, but not only was I a Toa but also a former athlete. Simply put the chase didn't last long, losing my Matoran tail within a minute. I slowed down to catch my breath, resting my hands on my hips as I approached the business district-

Ever so briefly, my mask glowed.

I slowed down even more, this time more annoyed than anything else. The longer I wore this mask, the less it made sense. Every time I tried to consciously use it, I felt like I was banging my head against a brick wall. Yet, somehow, as if by magic, this thing would randomly glow as if in response to some unspoken stimuli right when I least expected it-

As I was throwing my head back in frustration, right in the middle of my internal soliloquy, I saw something.

Or more importantly, someone.

Toa. On rooftop, almost behind me. Crouching. Black cloak. Body obscured. Kulasi.

Well well well...

The Guard apparently had reinforcements... the quick-traveling stealthy I-quietly-follow-you kind. I would need to congratulate Angelus and Jaller on their appointments of personnel. Granted, it COULD be a stalker or some mass-murderer seeing me as a delicious next target, but considering the last half-hour of my existence the coincidences were too much. If I was a betting man I would say that Toa was Guard. And normally I would bet that it would be nigh-impossible to lose him.

But what this Toa didn't know was that my teacher was Kulasi-user. And that my former arch-foe could teleport between shadows.

In which case I would take that bet and double-down on the fact that I could lose him. Ready, set-

I took off like a bolt in a random direction, zig-zagging though a tight group of alleyways before diving head-long into the rush-hour crowd, melding into the masses. But I didn't stop there. Given enough time someone like myself could be singled out, so in those precious moments I used them to the max, finding one of those vents to the steam-tunnels entrances off in a shadowy back-corner. Yes, the SAME steam vents I used to break into the Guard Armory and "borrow" the sparker gauntlets and armor back when Tuara was Captain of the Guard. Honestly I never thought I would be using THESE things again.

And this time my mask glowed faintly the entire time. Not enough to be seen at a distance, but enough that I noticed.

I think I'm beginning to understand this mask...

Maybe.

Still, I was now left in the steam vents that very often shot superheated water and other scalding gasses though the metal pipes, and from the sound of it it was powering up such an event. If I got caught down here when that went off-

Cue mask swap.

In a fluid motion I changed out my new mask with my old Kakama, the old familiar feeling of it on my face as I could feel my body react to the feeling of fast. With a grim grin I activated it to full and like a comet I zoomed through the service tunnels, barely beating the next scheduled blast of steam...

*   *   *

Moments later I kicked off the grated cover, rolling up and onto a warm floor just as a blast of Toa-kabob rushed below me. As usual, too close... but I could not but help but allow myself a short hoot of victory out loud. Deep down there still was that adrenaline junkie in me, that part now satisfied for a bit as I brought myself back to the present. Sitting up I looked around, pleased that my knowledge of the vent system was still largely intact - I was in the basement level of the Kohli Stadium, sitting pretty in the boiler room beneath the arena floor. With a casual motion I switched the masks back, eyes narrowing as I plotted my next move.

You won't be able to do that forever, you know. Once you change masks the other begins to stop working... some claim that it's possible to do two, I know Agni can, but I'm not sure if I'll be as lucky... even with my new mask. Still, you lost your pursuit - now what?

I took in a slow breath, becoming a very serious Toa. My next move?

To find me... the new me. Which is why I came here in the first place.

To where my old identity was forged.

Loren- Ta-koro- Chasing Joske

IC: It was hard not to notice Joske as he caught sight of Loren, the other Toa's body language was practically screaming about it. Needless to say, the Guardsman was ready when Joske made a break for it.

His position on the rooftop gave Loren a good view of the direction the other Toa first headed off in. It was still only the edge of the district and there were not all that many people in the area. A quick maskjump sent the Toa of Sonics to the roof of the building that made up one of the walls of the alleyway Joske dove into. A quick glance downward showed the red and gold Toa's next turn and Loren took off running.

It was one of the longest chases in Loren's career yet. Always, just as he was about to teleport in front of the other Toa, something would happen. Either he would turn a corner or something would come up that blocked his view. Whether a burst of steam of a flurry of papers kicked up by an errant waft of air it was always something. In fact, Loren was starting to think that it was more than just dumb luck.

Does this have something to do with that strange mask he has? I've never seen one like it before and looking at my recent opponents, I'm not going to discard any ideas right off the bat.

It was then that they broke out into a crowd of beings. It seemed that rush hour was still in full swing despite the tragedy that had happened only recently. It was odd, most people stayed inside or were busy fixing things after an attack on the koro. Whatever the case, Loren's quary quickly did his best to hide in the crowd. Not willing to leave anything to luck this time around, the Guardsman jumped forward off the roof that he had last teleported onto. Despite all the distractions flying at him which ranged from several carts which would have blocked his view half a second before a Matoran yelling at the crazy Toa jumping over his stand, Loren kept his eyes glued to his target. The bright eyed Toa scurried to the nearest dark corner that held a steam vent and did something that Loren missed as he maskjumped.

Loren reached out as he reappeared.

Just in time to dive to the side to avoid the jet of steam bursting out of the vent.

With a curse Loren jumped down into the vent to look for the probably boiled body that lay there. Only to look around and see nothing but empty tunnel.

Karz, must have lost him.

In one last attempt to pick the trail back up, the Toa of Sonics closed his eyes and reached out with his senses.

The drip of water

The faint sounds of the street above

A shout of triumph from much farther down the tunnel system.

...

What kind of rookie move was that, mystery Toa?

With a grunt, Loren opened his eyes and vanished further down the tunnels with a pop of displaced air.

"I serve the weak. I serve the helpless. I am their sword and their shield. If you want to strike at them, you must go through me, and I am not so easily moved."

NPC- Ko-Koro Messenger

As Korero exited the prison where he had just dropped off a few thugs, he suddenly came face to face with a stark white Toa he could have sworn wasn’t there a moment before. It only took Korero a moment to discover an explanation for the Ko-Toa’s sudden appearance in the mask of speed he wore.

The Kakama-wearing Toa gathered his breath and looked right at Korero’s eyes, a hint of desperation in his own. “Toa Korero,” he gasped, out of breath, “Gather the rest of the Maru. Ko-Koro is about to fall.”

“Echelon,” he explained, pausing to breathe, “and his followers have breached the gates. Dozens of Makuta followers assault the village from without. We cannot defeat them without your help. Please, Maru. We need you.”

IC (Korero)

Korero froze. He found his throat suddenly dry. In that instant, with those words, the Ko-Toa had swept away the breezy demeanour under which he'd buried the shock of the Piraka's attack.

Ko-Koro wasn't half the home Le-Koro had become, and he didn't like many of the ways it had changed under Matoro's leadership, but it was still the place where he grew up. It was still his Toa-brother Reordin's sworn charge. It was still a village of Mata Nui.

By the sound of things, it now faced an assault even worse than that which had just befallen Ta-Koro.

I thought we'd ended this nightmare.

He closed his eyes for a moment, and breathed out slowly. When he opened them again, he returned the Ko-Toa's gaze with as much resolve as he could muster.

"I'll do everything I can," he assured the messenger. "Now go. Rest here in Ta-Koro if you need to—I'll find my Brothers and Sister. We will stop them."

He walked past the Toa of Ice, giving him a reassuring pat on the shoulder as he went.

Reuniting the team I just walked out on, he thought to himself. This really is my lucky day.

OOC: well played, Mr. Haven, well played... you figured out my line to you and was able to still track him; mostly ;) Let's make this harder, shall we? :D Though I am interested to see how you'll be able to pinpoint exactly which vent/building he went into with all the ambient and loud noises around, let alone not get steam-cooked in the process, bwahaha!

What's the current chapter called in Nuju's description... ah yes! The game is afoot!

IC

Toa Joske

Location: Ta-Koro; Kohli Stadium

Chapter One: Crystals, Temples, Secrets... oh my.

Taking a moment I quietly reattached the grate, the last thing I wanted was either a custodial or maintenance employee to hear loud noises down here and investigate... though with the rumbling of the boilers I wasn't particularly concerned, but you never know. I needn't be worried however as I didn't see anyone as I left the basement and casually strolled out of the "restricted areas" and into the lower public levels of the stadium.

As I did so a flood of memories came rushing back.

My days as a Matoran. My reign as the Kohli Champion. Spending my entire day here every day practicing, training... reveling in it's glory. Earning every trophy and medal that was possible, then displaying it for everyone to-

I had to shield my eyes for a moment as I turned a corner, the hall suddenly a lot brighter. Once my eyes adjusted I realized I was looking at a trophy case several bios long, filled to the brim with gold, silver, and other shiny metallic objects. Almost reverently I approached, gently placing my fingertips on the cool glass, gazing at what was held within.

An ode to my former glory, to Team Ta-Koro and Captain Joske... and to my former hubris.

There was enough precious metals in here to fund Ta-Koro for years if melted down... but I guess the sentimental value as well as the prestige and bragging rights of the fans kept these here. I shook my head, slowly walking away. As much as I hated to think it, many people still saw me as that: former sports superstar, haughty Kohli player, prideful and egotistic Matoran-turned-Toa who didn't appreciate things. It was true that my actions at Kini-Nui had spawned numerous tales and legends, but that simply just split the populous on how they viewed me. Arrogant or hero? No matter what I did I still couldn't shake that old bad reputation completely. It was time to wash myself cleanly of it.

Literally.

There were numerous individuals here, including a healthy number of Ta-Toa, so it made it easy for me to simply fit in as I made my way to the locker rooms, keeping an eye out for my Kulasi-wearing pursuer. Making my way to the farthest-most lockers I made a beeline to the one in the corner, and older, somewhat-rusted rectangle that apparently hadn't been used in a while.

Year and a half to be exact.

Reaching up I began twisting the combination lock, first seven, then moving right to three, then doing a complete rotation left back to six. 7-3-6. A personal reminder of the lifecycle of our species - a cycle I was no longer part of, no longer wielding elemental powers or even Toa Power. With a small *pop* the door swung open, revealing an old gym bag. Grabbing it I left the door open as I strode to the showers, not once seeing that Kulasi-wearing annoyance. Finding the farthest one I stripped myself of my armor, threw it into my backpack, exchanging it with a bottle and then grabbing a towel from the gym bag before turning on the water.

I remembered these showers. They were a lot taller then... or at least they looked taller then. Within moments hot, steamy water came spewing out of the head as the air began to fog, the vapor quickly spreading and filling the entire shower room. I stood there for a moment, enjoying the heat. Heat. I may not technically be a Ta-Toa anymore, but I still enjoyed warmth, the hotter the better... lots of good memories. Cracking it up the max the water became scalding as the showers became nothing but white steam, but to me it was relaxing. I gave myself a moment to enjoy it a tad longer before attaching the bottle to the shower head, flipping open the nozzle, letting the contents mix with the water.

Time to wash it off.

At first there was no effect. But then slowly the water falling off me began to turn an off hue as if it was carrying something off me. I continued to stand there, arms outstretched as the water rolling off be went from clear to murky to bright red as on my body splotched began to appear, the water taking my "natural" color with it, reveal a much darker shade. My bright red hue, that obnoxious color that defined my flamboyant, self-interested demeanor, began to flow off my skin. That color, the one that everyone knew and saw me as, began to disappear. That hue, the one I had carried since birth, the old me... washed off, replaced with much more deeper, darker red. A more... distinguished color. It was time to finally separate myself from my old self.

I went into Legend as one individual; I came out another... for better or for worse.

I stood there, head back, eyes closed, arms out at a steam of reds, almost-browns, and gold all mixed together rolled off my body and swirled down the drain...

*   *   *

I stepped up to one of the sinks, draping the towel over my shoulders as I placed the gym bag at my feet. Rubbing off the steam I finally got a good look of myself. I was still red, but now a much more deep and rich dark red, bordering on the maroon side of the scale. There was also much more of me that was this new shade of red than before, my gold accents now a mixture of gold and dark brown, almost black, what little there was to be seen. My Kanohi Angitu remained gold, just like my old Kanohi Kakama, except that along the top edges it turned red like my body, as if I was had spiky red hair like some of the more organic life-forms seem to sport. But what interested me most was my physique. I had always been athletic, but also on the thin side of things, preferring speed over strength, and thus my body showed it. I was still lean and athletic, but I had more muscles than I remember. As if I had... filled out my frame. No longer on the skinny side but, oh what was the word I was looking for... average? Somewhere in the last year and a half body had moved to a more proportional size, probably due to the training and practice of swordplay and less on my Kakama. I couldn't say that I looked aged; if anything I perhaps looked a few years younger, but it did make me look distinguished, more mature perhaps? Overall it didn't look bad but it was enough that even I noticed that I looked... different.

New physique, new colors, new mask... I really did look different. Obviously close friends would be able to pick me out after a double-take, but for everyone else on the street... I chuckled dryly. I was effectively unrecognizable, and not because I put on a disguise. This - this was the new me. The one that had been hiding under the old one for almost two years, only now able to come out. Even that Rahkshi would have a hard time finding me now... that is, IF it was still out there searching for me. I stroked my chin, actually liking the thinner lines of this Angitu over the wide place setting of the Kakama, not to mention the spikes on top. There was still a hint of that don't-stop go-getter personality showing; I wouldn't want to lose myself completely. I was still me even if my appearance had changed.

I just hoped Cael liked it... not that I really had much a of a choice.

No, there is ALWAYS a choice.

I took in a sharp breath of air, exhaling through my nose; it was time to accept. It was time to get to work. Time to start preparing for war.

Time to take back what was rightfully ours.

Taking my signature launcher, old armor, towel, backpack, and other miscellaneous items I stuffed them in the gym back, strapping my sheathed sword to my waist as I slung the bag over my shoulder. With a serious face and a grim smile I left the showers, leaving behind who I once was, the old Joske who was now currently swirling and flushing down the Ta-Koro drains.

First I need to do some shopping.
