BZPRPG - Ko-Wahi

OOC: You're right

IC: Mortem - TOYS Store - Ko-Koro

"I have made a rough draft of a weapon I am planning." I say, passing him the tablet. It shows a staff, not unlike the one I once held. The top appears as a mace-like weapon, but the second diagram shows the same staff with a scythe-like blade at right angles to the rod. "When a button on the beam is pressed, the blade, hinged to the staff at the top, springs out."

OOC: It's kinda hard to describe how this works, but I'll be making an actual sketch of it pretty soon.

IC: Dayeth - Streets.

Slinging her patero over her shoulder, Dayeth descended the stairs and stepped out into the frigid Ko-Wahi air. She was swiftly growing to like this city. Despite being a Ta-Matoran, she'd always felt more comfortable in the cold, icy wastes of Ko-Wahi.

And now they were her home.

OOC: Dayeth open for interaction.

IC Rinnoz

Deciding it would be best not to follow this being, Rinnoz decided to stop and check out the blood sample. As he dipped a few different chemicals into it, he was looking very conspicuous.

Good thing he had stopped right in front of Roman someone to do it.

OOC: Open to interaction.

IC: Chivinix: Ko-Wahi, Somewhere in the Drifts.

Chikt. Chikt. Chikt.

If one listened closely in the drifts of Ko-wahi they may have heard this, though it is unlikely they would have known the source, though the mood behind the noise was obvious: Annoyance.

The instectoid being known as Chivinix wandered the Ko-wahi drifts. In the time since his emergence from the location the locals called 'The place of shadow' the island had gone to waste. Constant fighting, excessive destruction, killing? All in the name of what? Good and Evil? Bah, it wasn't about good or evil, right or wrong, light or shadow, but about power and who was the strongest. His whole life Chivinix knew this struggle, for if you were not strong, you were eaten. Though at least his people had the decency to know when they were weak and just accept fate. These ones, they were such an annoyance, constantly trying to prove they weren't weak only to fail.

He glanced around, trying to find any discernible landmarks. Chikt. Another shrill chitter echoed off the snow. If it weren't for the blinding snow it wouldn't be so bad he thought, but alas he lacked the power to change what was infront of him, and the only course of action was to keep trudging through the snow.

Chivinix continued walking for sometime, trying to keep to one general direction lest his progress be for naught. However that is when he saw it. In the distance he could faintly make out light, and where there was light there was often occupants of the light.

"Um.... what are you doing?" she frowned at the being in front of her (Rinnoz). There were far better places to be doing chemical tests than in the middle of the crowded, frigid streets.

IC: Zueya spotted a ledge she could use to climb up halfway up the building. Taking a short running start, she leaped onto the wall, running up it until she used up her momentum, and grabbing hold of the ledge. She quickly climbed it, vaulting  up to the roof's edge. As she clambered up, she had to mentally stop herself from stopping to pose like she had leaped off a high bar. The young Vo-Toa saw that Aelied had not yet taken action, so she didn't approach further, and only held her staff behind her.

Cyrix was mentally cursing himself for not spotting the follower earlier. The Le-Toa saw Aelied quick-travel up to the cloaked follower. His master's words were lost in the night wind; he had to get up there. He grabbed his grappel and sprung the climbing blades. As quickly as he could, he scaled the warehouse to reach the top.

Aelied's fingers adjusted on his staff, before he let go with one hand, and planted one end into the snowy roof. The lack of hostile action was... different, to say the least. He hadn't seen many being bundled up as much as this one. The elder toa smiled, his hand raising up to lightly warn Zueya and Cyrix to stop. "Well, it seems our situation is unavoidable then. I'll tell you, though, it's very cold up here. Would you care to join us inside? My bodyguard and I were about to find a nice abandoned storefront to set up in. I'm telling you, having the freedom to practice my herbalism is certainly a new experience here on Mata Nui." Aelied cringed internally at his heavyhanded doublespeak, but felt it would do the job for now.

IC

It was near-impossible to make out facial features in the shadows of the stranger's hood, but Aelied could've sworn he saw an eyebrow raise.

"Lead the way," said the darkly-clad Toa. In his voice was a hint of what might be amusement, or irritation.

"Well," He said as he lifted the beaker, then dumped the contents onto the ground and covered them in alcohol, "This person was definitely in fine health as far as I can see." He wiped clean the inside of the beaker with a cloth and carefully packed everything away.

"My name's Rinnoz. I'm one of the world's best surgeons." He offered his deformed hand.

Rinnoz was used to people lavishing over his excellence, and when they didn't, he got offended. Frowning, he withdrew his hand, then remembered that he needed proof of this. But, perhaps that was for later.

IC: Aelied smiled slightly. "I will. Our new... place of business is nearby. I'll meet you upstairs." The Bo-Toa stood straight, looking to the young Vo-Toa behind him. "Come Deilea." His Kualsi glowed for a brief second as he disappeared, blinking back onto the street below.

Zueya shot one last wary look at the cloaked stranger. Her master was acting... well, no, this mysteriousness and not telling her things was pretty much exactly how the elder toa normally acted. But in all things, he had a motive, a reason. It wasn't her place to ask, but she couldn't help but want to know. Well, whatever business her leader was getting involved in, he knew what he was doing. She leaped off of the roof down onto the alley's opposing wall, slid down, and dropped to the ground in a three-point landing, all the while holding her staff in a defensive position behind her. Flashing one last look at the stranger, she followed her master. He led her to a nearby storefront, hastily abandoned. Almost everything of value was gone, but the place at least was still standing... if freezing inside.

"Zueya, start cleaning this place up. I will be busy upstairs. When you're finished, start looking around in the back room for supplies. If we intend to run an herb shop, it would certainly help us if we looked the part."

The short Vo-Toa looked up at her master with a skeptical look. His use of her real name did not go unnoticed. "What am I supposed to clean with? I don't see anything around here."

Aelied waved his hand over one of the counters, and a green glow emerged as he used his elemental powers. The elder Bo-Toa began walking away, to a cramped stairway in the corner that led to the second floor. "I'm sure you'll figure something out."

Zueya looked at the counter, and sighed. A roll of fresh straw lay there, with a thin vine to tie them together with.

Cyrix didn't waste any time. Aelied had a plan; this guy had seen Cyrix, that was reason enough to put an arrow in him. Apparently, Aelied had seen something in the . He slung his crossbow over his back, and dropped to the floor below, creating a small gout of wind beneath him to stifle the fall. Seeing Aelied and Zueya disappear into a building, he surmised it was the store Aelied had told him about. Still under the cover of his Volitak, he dashed across the street, and, after an air-enhanced leap, climbed his way to the roof. It was, no suprise, covered in snow. Cyrix grumbled, knowing his mask would silence him. He was just about done with ice and snow for the night. After tramping around, he spotted a square bulge in the smooth snow in a corner; uncovering it, he found the handle to a rooftop hatch, made of heavy waterproofed wood. He pulled it up, and slipped in with the tumbling snow, swiftly slamming the hatch shut above him.

The times, they are a-changing...

IC

The slim hooded stranger was already inside the building's upper level when Aelied and Cyrix reached it. He was standing by a cracked street-side window, peering out between the shards of frost-encrusted glass.

He turned to face the two Toa as they approached, and raised one hand. There was a soft sucking noise as the air around them separated from itself, forming a shell of vacuum exactly like the one Cyrix had summoned earlier. In theory some sound would still travel through the floor, but for all intents and purposes their conversation would be silent to the outside world.

The man in the hooded coat said nothing. It seemed he was waiting for either of the Kalta to speak.

IC: Cyrix wearily groaned as he deactivated his Volitak. "Oh thank Artakha you're doing it. I'm just about done for the night." He closed the shutters on the windows, then leaned against the wall, sliding down into a sitting position. He took out his crossbow and unloaded it, inspecting it for damage from the cold.

Aelied, bemused to find the toa waiting for them, approached. Upstairs was pretty desolate; perhaps this had once been living quarters, but after the looting it was indistinguishable from a storeroom, with scattered broken furniture. Slowly, he sat on the floor crosslegged, laying his green staff in his lap. "Ah, it feels good to sit. I admit, the cold weather doesn't agree with me."

The ancient Bo-Toa looked at the hooded stranger. "But, as cold as it is, I'm not bundled up from head to toe, like you are. And, what you are wearing isn't exactly insulated. So, that tells me that you have other reasons for wearing that, Le-Toa. I assume because showing your mask would be dangerous. Of course, there are lots of reasons you might not want your mask shown. Perhaps a bounty on it, like one of my unfortunate subordinates, or because the toa behind it is not... welcome, here in the new Ko-Koro."

Aelied gestured to him and Cyrix. "But where are my manners? Allow me to introduce myself. Here in Ko-Koro, I am known as the herbalist Ayeuz, and my bodyguard downstairs as Deilea. You, however, can call me Aelied, leader of the Toa Kalta. Downstairs is Zueya, my student, still learning the ways of being a Toa. This is Cyrix, infiltration and reconnaissance specialist for the Kalta."

Cyrix looked up from his disassembled crossbow for a moment, while Aelied continued. "I have kept his existence a secret from the rest of the Kalta. He has made his own way into the Koro, much like I suspect you did. We three came here because we learned from some injured refugees we rescued that the Legacy is keeping hostages. As long as these hostages remain, the Legacy shall be unchallenged by the other Koros. If they are bold enough to move with the innocents still at risk..." the Bo-Toa trailed off.

"Move to minimize civilian casualties," Cyrix finished. "Either way, those hostages are a fulcrum that's keeping this place up."

Aelied nodded. "Cyrix is correct. In addition... they are innocent matoran. Any true toa would be trying to do the same."

The times, they are a-changing...

What? no wonder there wasn't a police force. He gave a disgusted snort at the mention of 'dead' and closed his equipment case. "Well, perhaps in the other Wahi, what alliances in need of an extremely good medic are there?"

He doubted she actually knew, with the type of answers she was giving him already. She also didn't appear to be aligned with anyone.

IC (Traveler):

The dark, hooded figure still stood outside the gates of the Koro, in the cold silence - which was just getting colder. He waited...waited...waited. Perhaps whoever was in charge had commanded nobody be let in, but then again nothing in the guards - or rather filling that particular role now - hinted at any such command.

"Anybody there?"

More silence and howling winds answered.

Very well then.

The snow suddenly began to whirl in a different direction as the dark Toa summoned a current to him with his elemental powers, while bending into a crouch. The next moment he lept up, straight into the air and high enough to reach the top of the wall. That did the trick. Immediately rough voices shouted, and gears clicked as the silent - but very much alert - new guards of the village swung their Patero launchers around on their mounts, aiming at the dark figure that landed on the edge of the wall right above the gate with a soft thud. Metallic clicks sounded as the Patero gunner's fingers tensed on their triggers. Then a gruff voice cut through the night: "Hold it right there, Toa!"

While the guards manning the launchers were Matoan, the owner of the voice was a Skakdi, as broad shoulders as they all came and a smile that could make fresh fruit rot in an instant. The traveler, still perched on the edge of the wall like a predator bird scanning the ground below for victims, studied them quickly. While each was a different colour and build, they had apparently taken the time to raid the original Sanctum Guard storage and now wore what once had been the official uniforms - though cut and customized to whatever their preferences were, turning the once respectable uniforms into mockeries of themselves. The Skakdi was wearing what the dark Toa hoped was a Mukau hide around his shoulders. The alternative for the skin's origin was much more grim.

With the Toa still firmly in the sights of his subordinates, the Skakdi stepped forward. "And where do you think you're going?"

"Nowhere, judging by the lack of a response so far." the Toa replied. The Skakdi's grin widened a little. "Looks like we've got ourselves a Toa with some brains in his head." He took another step forward. "What's your name, traveler?"

"You just said it." the Traveler replied.

The Skakdi blew air out of his nose in two big puffs in the frigid air. "Maybe not as many brains as I thought..." he muttered. A moment later his arm shot outward, seizing the dark Toa by the throat and holding him up. The traveler felt how the claws pressed against his larynx, severely limiting the bloodflow. But he also knew the Skakdi was trying to intimidate him and was holding back right now.

"I'll ask nicely one more time, after that...ah, you're smart enough to know where this is going."

The Toa smiled coldly. "Indeed. And seeing as you've left yourself wide open I suggest we try and get off on the right foot before you force my hand."

"What are you blabbering about?"

"The juicy soft spot right beneath your arm that I could sink any of my daggers into before you'll even manage to move a muscle. Or your throat, the little gap in your rib armor...take your pick and I'll guarantee you'll bleed out within a minute. I didn't come here to do that of course, I'd prefer not to do it, but don't believe for a second that I won't end you if you keep this up."

The Skakdi's grip tightened, then suddenly loosened as he let go and stepped back into relative safety. "Fine, let's try this again Toa. What brings you here?"

Traveler harrumphed. "Toa in appearance only. I am here for the same reason you are: This village belongs to Makuta now, as we all do. The rest of island is still full of those Matoran who wouldn't know how to put their mask on right without their Akiri and who keep spewing their inane dribble about virtues. Not me. I am one of you."

"And we should just take your word for it?" the Skakdi asked, sarcasm dripping through his teeth along with his saliva.

"Would you rather I take your life?"

"Point taken, but you're still not waltzing in here. Follow me."

"Lead the way." the dark Toa replied, his voice somewhere between amused and irritated.

Figures. Really should have seen this coming.

"Seen what? One random person who told me a bunch of factions I can't remember, and a group of Skakdi. Really. I'm sure the opposing forces will beg me to reveal my secrets." He ended it with loads of sarcasm. He had also slowly gone into a slightly defensive stance. "How can you think anyone will give a Karz for something so blatantly vague?"

Aha!

Rinnoz cartwheeled to the side, then backflipped and ran from his location. There has to be another exit around here. Noticing the big main gate was well supervised, he jumped up and clawed into the side of a building. He stopped, however, and hung on the side, watching his new opponent.

"This being is a spy!" she jabbed a finger towards Rinnoz, her shouts swiftly gaining the attention of passers-by as well as the nearby guards. "He's an enemy of Makuta's Legacy, and the city of Ko-Koro!"

She didn't attack, though. There was no point blowing a fiery hole in someone's house when one of the dozens of beings swiftly flocking to her location would no-doubt have a safer means of removing the intruder.

IC (Traveler):

They led him into a spartan room, one of many in the buildings that were part of the same ice as the base of the wall. The Skakdi demanded he disarm, which Widgets did, putting down his sword and daggers, though making no mention of the others he had hidden on him. As expected, they insisted on searching him and while they were thorough they missed the hidden blades. He didn't blame them, after all he had a couple of centuries worth of experience over the Skakdi.

After the search was done the Skakdi handed him back his sword. The Traveler reached out to take itbut the Skakdi wouldn't let go. "That leaves only the question of your identity." he said. Traveler's grip on the hilt tightened. "I have no name. Never was given one. Call me what you will."

"So many skills and yet no name to speak of. Fine then. You look like a runt, so Runt it is."

The dark Toa just shrugged. It was better than 'Widgets' at least.

"Are we done here?"

The Skakdi just nodded. He knew those in charge well, he thought: Full of dark faith, ego and terrible anger if provoked, but easy to handle once one kept all that in mind. And they were more than enough to handle one Toa. Without another word the Traveler left, leaving the Skakdi alive...for now.

Back outside he followed the tracks in the snow the architect and guard had left.
