IC: Arisaka - Ga-Koro, The Great Takea-

"I wouldn't worry your ugly head over it, it's not a place you'll ever have the pleasure of visiting." Arisaka was used to the trash talk of scum such as this, she'd dealt with plenty back home. If he thought he could get through her very thick skin he was mistaken. He questioned her strength, which was odd considering she had him pinned pretty tightly. These Skakdi strange ones indeed. "If I thought you were worth trying to fight I would have done so."

It was then the Skadki addressed the 'Toa of Leg Ripping', was that a title that Toa had earned in battle? It sounded impressive, especially looking at this scum's leg. But that wasn't important right now.

"Toa...who is this Arero he speaks of?"

All good lies are based on a grain of truth, and knowing where they came from was not one of them.

"I still owe him so saying who he is, where he's going, or how he came about knowing where you were are out of the question. Although I thought you might've wanted to know seeing as what he's got planned for him is nothing good. And if you're going to ask why I'd rat him out now," he took an angrier tone. "Well that's because of the fact that I wasn't supposed to fight this many people nor get my leg's busted like this. Thought he was indebted to get his own share of surprises today." as he said this his smile faded and gave a much more serious look. He rested his head against the lily-pad beneath him making it seem he had finished mouthing off.

IC:

"Yeah, and worse still— I've got no clue what he's talking about. Arero," I said flatly, inclining my head to the woman of the Kentoku Archipelago (seriously, not once. And I've been to Xa-Koro!) "Is a homebody whose worst enemy is his next door neighbor, filling his ears with basket-weaving gossip. That's a match with what I've seen of him since we've been on the road together— must be a karz of an actor if he's hiding guys on our tail from me. So, I've gotta ask..."

He'd done well to not get caught up overextending, and hadn't taken the bait I'd dangled in front of him. Like I figured, his brain was still working.

Well, I'd gladly make it work some more. I'd like to think I'd have heard a scuffle in the other room during the short span this fight took if there was one, plus the Marines were here in a timely fashion— chances were slim that I gave this one any weight. I'd taught Arero enough to at least get a bit of a scrap from him— resist long enough for him to holler if things went south.

"Why do I believe you over my experience? What cinches it for me?"

"Arero Is a homebody whose worst enemy is his next door neighbor, filling his ears with basket-weaving gossip."

:How does this guy not know that you shouldn't keep giving me information on him.:

"You don't have to believe me, nor would I expect you to." he said still keeping a calm demeanor. "But gossip can entail many things. If you ever wanted to grab someone you wouldn't do it at the same time your distraction arrived you'd do it in the aftermath, when everyone least expects it, when the crowds were being escorted out of the building. Remember your target well, and grab him before he realizes he's in danger, within the mass of people."

:Time to take it up a notch. There are always corrupt cops, or in this case marines, who have personal grudges for one reason or another it might just make the one here suspect someone.:

"Besides what better way is there to kidnap someone if you're trusting them to uphold the law."

:The marines would have wanted to question everyone, the likelihood of one not having him is very low. And it would account for knowing where they were. Not to mention if he's paying attention he'd realize I never said I'd get caught or stay that way for long.:

"Where did they teach you biology? Or is this Kentoku you speak of so primitive?" Zyrgahk said in a rather annoyed voice at the Dasaka. "Don't you know that if you crush someone's throat they will simply suffocate and die, there is no 'Just enough so he can't speak.' trust me I should know."

"Kinda wanna see where he goes with this one, honestly."

A thought occurred. My eyes slid from the face of one Skakdi to another, much less obscenely large Skakdi. From the shuffling and murmurs of the crowd behind me (as well as the telltale jingle-jangle of cuffs), it sounded like our Marine compatriot's reinforcements were just about here and ready to cart the big guy off. Good. The less he egged these ladies on, the better. As for me:

"Going back to what you said a while ago, what's your stance going to be on damages with this little scuffle? I might have whacked your doorframe a couple of times."

This could affect finances going forward, and I happened to enjoy having a nest egg of supplies to ration out whenever I wandered into somewhere barren.

Best get that settled so I could plan around it with as much time as possible. My wallet might have literally needed it.

Plus, this'd also influence just how much I can show Arero around as we were. For the sake of our blossoming camaraderie, I hoped I wasn't gonna need to start charging him for tours.

:Great, just what I needed, the marines. Looks like the Toa didn't buy it either. Nothing seems to want to go right today.:

"Going back to what you said a while ago, what's your stance going to be on damages with this little scuffle? I might have whacked your doorframe a couple of times."

"Heh, not to mention you tried burning the place down. Oh, now I understand why you don't care what happens to Arero, you were perfectly fine with setting the bar and everyone inside ablaze, guess you thought he was going to get it at some point or another."

:Might as well keep it up now.:

What?”  said Talli.

“That won’t be necessary.”

The lilypad beneath Zyrgak sudden grew thick, green vines that wrapped around his legs arms and shoulders.

A turquoise toa stepped into the middle of the strange gaggle of spectators, his arms crossed.   The emblem of the Ga-koro Marines shone plainly on his chest. “We’ll handle this from here. Private Anach, take testimony from all these people.  And next time--” he raised an eyebrow “--wait for backup.”

No matter how many times she saw it, Arisaka could not get used to seeing the many different powers of these Toa. She was quick to remove herself from the Skakdi as the vines enveloped him. It honestly was an amazing thing to watch happen.

The vines began growing, twisting and turning around Zyrgahk's body.

:Well, this is not how I envisioned my day going.:

Suddenly one of the vines wrapped around his injured leg a bit to tight.

"Hey watch what you're doing, you rahi brained-"

He was unable to finish his sentence as one of the vines closed his mouth shut.

:I'm going to have to get back at that tiny marine for this some day.:

Safe.

I smiled as graciously as I could, inclining my head.

"No problem. He was messing up me and my buddy's lunch orders, I had to step in anyway— if anything, it was Onuzek and..."

I'd just overheard it. Come on, Cipher, don't be rude. Onuzek was really loud, I didn't have an excuse. Knife-friend...

"Lucira back here that did it out of the goodness of their hearts."

Her knife was the thing that got the most work done in the whole affair, after all. I didn't mind giving out credit to others seeing as this wasn't a job— plus, they were good sorts. I was pretty sure Onuzek didn't even understand malice. Recognizing their efforts was the least I could do after they'd helped me out. All I really wanted, in fact...

My burger.

That aside.

"Any chance we could swing around the front for this?" I asked the Marine, Private Anach, seemingly still pretty incensed by the big Skakdi's barbs. "Despite what our jolly giant friend's been saying about me, I'd like to get an eye back on my charge. Make sure the crowd didn't trample him, or something."

"Appreciate it. This shouldn't take long."

After some careful positioning, welcoming invitations to "lead on" and a couple of crosswise looks from the assembled group (especially the one who intended to interview me), we made it around without major incident. All it took was keeping an eye on the person in front of me.

And my right hand trailing the outside wall.

Incident over with, the crowd in front was beginning to disperse— either off to whatever their plans for the day were, or some filtered back into the Takea. I couldn't tell at a glance if they were doing so to finish their lunches or get interviewed as we were; my mind had different, bigger priorities. If I couldn't locate at least a sign of Arero, that meant trouble.

I scanned about the assembly, not a Po-Matoran in sight. Worrying— but at roughly the same level, out on the front just past the door...

"Well, there's my stuff." I grumbled, flummoxed. Walking forward with an arm raised so the Marine could keep track of me, I managed to slice through the throng without issue until I came upon that sturdy and worn mound of leather and burlap, the closest thing to home I'd truly ever known. I had definitely brought it in with me, so somebody must have brought it out.

The last one to mess around in there was Arero, going for my crossbow. Had to have been him. I don't think anybody else would have let themselves be weighed down by this comically oversized thing in the confusion, seeing as they didn't at least know me. But unfortunately, the only logical culprit wasn't turning up at stomach-level alongside my bag, or anywhere in this mass of bodies.

... So where had he run off to? Maybe back inside?

I tugged against the strap, more to test the weight as opposed to sling it over my shoulder like usual, and for my effort found significantly more than expected.

What.

I undid the flap to the largest pocket of space within. I expected some of his gear, or a message, maybe even his head (as if the Skakdi was right and someone was after the guy), but instead of any of those things, I was greeted with...

... Okay.

"What are you doing."

Found him.

"Sorry. I got scared." I say while crawling out of Cipher's bag. "Didn't know where to go once I was outside, but didn't feel safe just waiting in the open. The dark was calming."

I pat myself down as I stand up. My left foot is a sleep, and I feel the pinging of pinched wires. The crowd has mostly cleared out. "So, um... we okay?"

I look Cipher over. "You okay?"

It seemed the authorities wanted to question them all about the incident. Fair enough, Arisaka had great respect for the virtue of order after all. She made her way to where the others involved seemed to be gathering.

The Dasaka found herself standing next to the very large Toa, she'd overheard his name enough times to know it by heart, as the giant seemed to speak his own name quite often. Onuzek.

She'd never met someone quite as big as this Toa, and looking at his mask, she wondered just how strong the Toa was. It piqued her curiosity, and she was not usually one to be curious.

"You are called Onuzek, correct?" Obviously, but she felt it would be rude not to ask anyway.

"Says he liked the dark!" I called over my shoulder to Onuzek, resisting the urge to shrug beneath his flummoxed stare. I didn't get it either, but that was what he told me— the large Ba-Toa would have to settle at that unless he wanted to pry further himself. It being Onuzek...

Fifty-Fifty.

As the Po-Matoran hastily clambered out of my bag, I gave him a once-over behind my own mildly confused expression. No trampling, good. He wasn't having any trouble moving and wasn't bleeding anywhere from what I could tell; if anything, I figured he'd have been a little stiffer cooping up in that thing for however long our debacle had lasted. Once his clown car act was finished, I quite unceremoniously lifted my pack by the handle near my bedroll at the top, carrying it like a suitcase as I jerked my head over that same direction I'd approached from.

"Intruder's getting carted off by the Marines, everything's good. We just need to give our testimonies and then it oughta be dealt with. And you're in luck—"

I jerked a thumb over my shoulder with a grin, praying that I remembered the Water Skakdi's relative position. It being me...

...

yeah, it's fifty-fifty, shut up.

"The owner ended up stopping in to help us out. No better person to pitch that menu idea to."

"Onuzek is Onuzek!" Onuzek confirmed, his bright gaze turning towards the equally brightly-armored being who had addressed him. Her voice was rough and as scary as she looked, but then again, she had also helped with the mean big skakdi. So maybe she was nice?

Friend-Cipher could probably stop her from hurting anyone if she wasn't nice, Onuzek was sure of it.

He waved at maybe nice shiny-toa.

"I see..." Arisaka's tone sounded...amused? That was rather rare for the Dasaka, but she found the big Toa's childish demeanor rather charming, there was no deception behind his eyes, only sincerity.

And people like that were rare gems indeed.

"I'm Arisaka, Menti of the Umbraline Clan..." She paused, realizing that Onuzek wouldn't understand what any of that meant. "You can just call me Arisaka though."

IC: Zyrgahk

The Marines began hauling Zyrgahk off. His extremities (and jaws) were tied with large thick vines intertwined with each other, only his legs were moderately loosened so he could walk. Matoran, Toa, and Dasaka alike would stop and stare at the immense Skakdi.

:Well you weren't much help. Not that I'm even sure you understand me, you little runt.:

"It's not like you even tried to use my power." said the Parakuka, or more showed him rather, in equal anger to his.

:Oh you little rat! I'd skin you alive if- wait... I understood that.:

"Yeah, I finally figured out what you respond to, you over glorified reptile!"

:And you choose now as an appropriate time instead of, I don't now say before my leg was stabbed and we were captured.:

"Well I tried but I hadn't figured all of it out, not to mention, you, weren't, listening!

The image of a monkey closing his ears with his hands while a bird trying to warn him of a muaka about to kill him punctuated his sentiment. At this Zyrgahk began growling. One of the marines struck him on the back of his right leg, not that he knew why Zyrgahk was growling.

"Don't get any bright ideas."

Zyrgahk stared at him with painfully obvious fury.

"Man, it's like looking at a rahi."

Zyrgahk got up still staring at him, his towering frame increasing the marine's unease.

:Toa of water, low rank it would seem, and wears an akaku. Remember this guy well, uh what should I call you anyway?:

"Just call me Marro, and yeah we're going to have to tear his right leg off, for poetic justice reasons, sooner or later."

:On that we can agree on.:

The toa of water expected their prisoner to attack him but none came, Zyrgahk turned around and kept walking on with the marines. He'd wait a bit longer before striking at him he was sure this wasn't the last he'd see of him.

OOC: Zyrgahk open for interaction...?

IC: Arero

As Cipher and I make our way back into The Great Takea I notice a group of Marines leading what must have been the cause of the brawl away. His head and shoulders bob above his captors. Must have been hurt in the leg. Something sickening and worm-like clings onto the back of his neck. I’d read about parakuka maggots before, but never seen on for myself. It’s disgusting.

“Big guy,” I mutter as they turn the corner and disappear from sight. I step through the front door back into the tavern. I step carefully to avoid the shattered glass covering half the floor from where the window was smashed in. I can only imagine the damages inside the kitchen.

“Oh. Bigger guy,” I say involuntarily as I take stock of the crowd gathering to give testimony. The giant purple and black armored toa that blocked my view of the port earlier is here and taking up the entire width of a corner booth. How he fit through the door I’ll never know. You could easily fit an entire skakdi in just his torso. He’s talking with a much smaller toa dressed in crystal armor. The toa that threw herself through the window of the bar to join the brawl.  The smaller toa is blue and seems genuinely interested in learning about the giant in the room. Both wear the great mask of strength. Both carry the scars of previous battles. Looking around further I realize all the toa in the room have scars, dents, uniforms, or war wounds. I’m surrounded by combat veterans. A Ga-Matoran Marine is working on establishing order and starting to interview the brawlers by the bar. Is that a Ta-Koro guard in the group?

I realize why I feel out of place now. Everyone here is a fighter, and their armor shows it. Especially the blue skakdi holding a piece of metal scrap with a makeshift handle. And I’m supposed to propose a meal suggestion to them?  I don’t have dirt smeared across my armor. I hide my wounds. I’m not proud of my fall. It’s just another thing that stops me from dreaming.

“Maybe I should wait on that. You know her place just got trashed. And preferably I can do it by mail. I Don’t want to be a bother,” I say to Cipher from the corner of my mouth. “Is she suing for damages?”

Happy chat.

She didn't sound like she had made a joke, but Rhow chuckled anyway, then abruptly stopped.

"So what's this menu-talk about?"

"Um, well, I uh..." I bite my lip anxiously. How to explain to a large dangerous bar owner that what's on her menu isn't good enough for the Onu-Koro bookworm. " Hi, sorry, I'm Arero. I was saying to Cipher earlier that I love the menu. Especially the wooden board backing. Very nice touch." Okay maybe not love, but it's a step in the right direction. Her tavern just got damaged. Telling her that using mismatched sizes for menu boards didn't assist the aesthetic would be rude. "But I was thinking that, you know, maybe you could have an option for crab and seaweed salad as a sandwich? It's currently a salad.

"And you could maybe offer jicama fries in the appetizer section. If that's not too much trouble with the menu layout."

"Onuzek likes shiny armor."

Lucira made her way up to her previously vacated spot at the bar and watched the grizzled toa positively beam as the nervous-looking onu-matoran stuttered out his order.  She was glad that a sense of civic responsibility extended past official protectors of the island like herself.

"Thank you, I like your...metal armor." Arisaka gave an awkward smile, the truth was, she was rather bad at making conversation. She usually relided on others to lead the conversation, that way all she had to do was agree or disagree with as few words as possible. Onuzek however seemed to use even less words than she did, so she felt rather stuck on what to say next.

"Do you...work out?"

Everything seemed to be going smoothly— I had better get this lingering matter settled in the meantime.

I slipped away from Arero and the generous proprietress of the establishment's conversation regarding new menu ideas once I'd determined that he was, in fact, starting to get a surer footing in speaking to her. For all of the Skakdi's severe countenance and myriad scars, she seemed to be showing genuine interest near as I could tell; and at the very least, she was far from ripping any of our heads off. Not particularly unfriendly by any means.

He'd be fine.

With Arisaka and Onuzek striking up a fast friendship, and Arero busy sharing his thoughts to the Takea's owner, it was only natural that I be the one to end up sitting opposite the surly Private Anach. Given that I wasn't currently near Dorian's corrupting influence (kick Echelon-if-I-was-a-betting-man's teeth through his skull, brother) nor talking to a cop who'd really gotten on my nerves (I really should apologize to Skyra about the stickerbook), I tried to handle it as politely as possible, without tugging on whatever thread had her scowling so fiercely.

“Start with your purpose for coming into the restaurant and go from--are you just going to leave that there?”

Lucira shrugged, gesturing towards the bloody knife on the counter.  “I figured you might want it for evidence. I was going to get the sheath to keep it from-”

“I’ll get it,” Talli was already rooting around in the Ta-matoran’s bag for anything sheath-shaped.  Her hands closed around an object of about the right shape and size, and she pulled it out.

It was not a knife sheath.

Talli shoved the now glowing object back in the pack as if it was burning hot and nearly leaped back into her chair.

“Sorry...that’s your stuff.  I don’t know what I was thinking?”

“Oh,” said Lucira, smiling gently over the beer she had managed to acquire.  “I rather think that was yours, Private Anach.”

Talli turned back to Cipher, considerably more subdued than she had been previously.  She fiddled with her iStone for a considerable amount of time before she got the recording device to work.

“Like I said before...just start with how you got here and this will take care of it.”

She paused for a moment.
“Uh...please.”
She had no idea who she was saying that too.

"Well,"

That glowing rock, as many such so often do, gave me pause for a moment as Lucira and Anach hashed out its ownership. If I was the brash idiot I'd been before all of this, before you lovely audience decided to go on a little trip with me (thank you, by the way. It gets lonely on my own), I'd have probably written it off as just some strange Lightstone. A traveller carrying her own illumination— not uncommon in the least. Arero and I both had some from making our way out of Onu-Koro, for example.

But I'd gotten a particular feeling from that one.

Similar to the tablet in the temple.

Similar to the ruins of Xa-Koro.

Similar to the alabaster drifts I'd followed my best friend into, as we lost a race against time.

Some small measure of fate was wrapped up in that rock, and just as you've all followed my story, I'm sure that was important to theirs. These things wove together. I won't say I'm clairvoyant, nor prescient, nor even anything necessarily more than a man tangentially related to some big moments by way of a brother-in-arms. But humor me. I feel like I've gained a bit of a nose for these things over the years, and that sheath-shaped rock... it felt some kinda important. Being a Toa, I had a certain measure of a guess as to how so.

Might meet one of those two at eye level one day.

Might happen sooner than I think.

...Well, if that's what it is, so be it.

Best of luck to you. Start small and work up.

"Originally, Arero and I were stopping in for lunch. He's from Onu-Koro, met me there and asked if I could help him out with the journey. Wants to see if any friends from Ko made it out here— Your town's next on the list, actually." I said in aside, nodding to the Guardswoman seated next to the Marine. "We sat down, got some drinks, and deliberated our orders. Usual stuff."

I folded my arms, looking over to the doorway, still slammed shut.

"Then I heard a loud sound from in there. Not ringing like a pot or pan, but like a lot of snapping wood. Doesn't sound right coming from a kitchen, so I investigated. Called out, asked if the chef staff inside were okay. No response, so I figured it was probably an intruder— it's a one in a million chef that KOs himself snapping a cutting board, right?"

And as it turned out.

"So that guess was on the mark. Did a little doorway clearing work to get the first shot in, then we all basically got pulled into the fight. Not much after that before you showed up— we kinda just went for his knees while Onuzek was figuring out what we were all doing."
