Based on the first two films, as the third comes out in a year, it is slated to release in the spring of 2014. Read more about it on <a href='http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/11/25/lego-the-hobbit-game-could-be-coming-in-2014' target='offsite'>IGN</a>, and look for an ad on the instructions in this winter's Hobbit sets. While I don't really like Jackson's 2 to 3 movie workover, either, there's no evidence to suggest that it was done for money. It was his idea, not the studio's, and all indicators point to it being a creative decision on his part to put as much of Middle Earth on screen as he could. In either case, I agree that it's strange to release it based solely on the first two movies. I don't know how long it takes for decisions to be made and finalized at LEGO, but I have to wonder if its the result of them planning to release a game when they acquired the license, back when there were only two films, and they just decided not to push things back when it got upped to three.
