Binkmeister confirmed the Secret Mission books are Non-Canon.. They're not dead.

The story goes like this: "Work on a construction site within the heart of Antropolis City has come to an abrupt halt as a deadly new threat has accidentally been uncovered. Suddenly a swarm of beasts invade the city from below causing chaos, their motives are unknown and their intelligence is brutal."

To save the city from five gigantic boss beasts and their minions you must combine forces and create new Battle Machines to save the galaxy. Levels range from Antropolis city down to an underground world of crystal caves, acid pits and magnetic chambers. Characters Rocka, Furno, Evo, Bulk, Breez, Surge and Stormer are under your control to save the day."

He's talking about Stringer, who along with Nex isn't referenced. Also, I suppose he doesn't mean dead in a literal sense. It's looking quite bad, though, as this is shaping to become the second year in a row without them. Pity, because Stringer has always been my favourite. :/

It's not as much as a big deal as the fact that I want a Stringer minifig, but you can't always get what you want.

 

And what happened to Bulk and Nex? The "strong" and "techical" nature of the mechs would totally fit with their characters. What a wasted opportunity.

 

Character quibbles aside, I'm just happy that Lego decided to go this way with the mechs and minifigs. It's truly the most innovative thing that we've got from HF ever since the new building system came out.

Anyways Don't know if Bulk or Stringer is going to be in it because there was a Hero with a Black Helmet but in the next shot the Helmet change to Silver and i think there was another blue hero then just Surge (plus in Breakout Stringer have blue) but one of them have a Black Helmet. So we may see Stringer (i think).

Bulk and Surge have been seen for sure. But I haven't seen a single "Stringer" shot that wasn't incredibly unclear. Most could be simple cases of mistaken identity.

 

I'm more sad about Nex's absence. He's easily the theme's best comic relief character and an all-around cool guy. At the same time, I can fully understand if the creators think nine main characters is too many. It'll just be a shame not to get minifigs of all nine heroes.

 

I hope someone with some 3D rendering experience can make minifig helmets for Nex and Stringer available for either purchase or 3D printing.

I'm almost certain I saw stringer in the trailer. Yeah there wasn't a clear shot but I'm fairly certain it's him. Another reading for me thinking Nex and/or stringer will be out as sets this year is the number of heroes we have in this up coming wave. In BA we had 4 and then 3. In BO we has 5 and then 4. In this first wave we have 5. I know this year is different from past years with heroes appearing in sometimes multiple sets, but maybe looking at the "pattern" if you can call it that. May show us what we got in wave 2. I personally can't see them releasing only 2 new hero figs in wave 2 but hey ho.

I'm pretty sure that Surge, Bulk, and Stringer will appear in the summer wave, according to the trailer for the episode. I hadn't seen Stringer for a year. I hope that Nex will appear in the summer wave, too, because I hadn't seen him for two years, and I want him now.

It's a nice new direction but it seems Nex and Stringer have been all but abandoned.

 

Also, just to let everyone know, the first wave (except Jaw Beast) is on LEGO S@H, in the UK at least.

True, they aren't, but probably, they will, along with Stringer and hopefully Nex. I mean, Hero Factory will be about minifigures in 2014, so there is very likely a big chance that this will happen because when it comes with minifigures, it means a lot of characters being featured in the sets.

I was thinking, we got the Accessory Pack with the Black Brain this year (2013) and in 2011 we got the Recon Chest Plate and from 2011 to 2012 we got Booster, Accessory and what ever this is, Packs that i never heard of. So what pack or something are we going to get this year or are we just going to get Nothing.

I can't really picture any figures with exclusive molds as a gift-with-purchase polybag, so if Nex and Stringer don't show up in the summer sets then I doubt we'll see them at all. If we do see any sort of exclusive minifig pack, it'll likely either be a hero like Merrick Fortis who can reuse the helmet of another hero (perhaps in a new color or perhaps not), or an existing hero with unique gear (like recolored body armor, and perhaps some sort of jetpack or the like). Heck, it could even be something like one of the "hoppers" from some of the sets in a new color (maybe even glow-in-the dark, to really bring out the similarities to the old mini-Visorak). Don't get your hopes up too high and at best we could be pleasantly surprised, as we were with this year's black brain.

Well if Merrick Fortis is going to be a Exclusive Minifig with just recolor, he mostly likely have the same body armor color from his 2.0, Surge Helmet in White and a glow in the dark head with the Glatorian face on it but (i'm just saying and going offtopic for a sec) i think it be awesome if he had his own Mech and be a set as a Scout Mech.

If it be one of those hoppers, it be awesome if the Exclusive was Glow in the Dark or maybe Purple and NOT GOLD.

Perhaps. But even with the minifigs, the new sets don't make heavy use of System parts, and I can't imagine a set of that size being constructed out of Hero Factory or even Technic parts. Of course, it would be far from impossible for them to make a System vehicle for a HF polybag, but given what we've seen of the sets it would be out of the ordinary.

Stringer and Nex are dead because in the book Secret Mission 4: Robot Rampage it said that some of the Alpha 1 Team Member died in a explosion.

And the heroes we didn't seen are Stringer ,Nex and that new rookie and if you say that it's not official unless you have proof.

I have no idea what you're talking about there. If you could point me towards what page of the book it says that on I might be able to understand better, but Stringer is clearly alive and present on the fourth page from the end of the story (page 134) and I can't find the slightest mention of any explosion after that point. There was an energy flare at the beginning of Secret Mission 5: Mirror World, but that didn't end up killing anyone; it just transported Stormer, Bulk, Furno, and Breez to the alternate reality where most of the story takes place.

 

I think it's more likely that Stringer and Nex are being omitted to keep the cast of characters small and manageable. Or perhaps there just wasn't enough budget for new parts in 2013 or 2014 to have nine new hero helmets. After all, there are nine machines this year, which would be enough for nine heroes (really ten, if you count the second cockpit of Surge's machine), so the decision to omit Stringer and Nex could have taken place after design for the sets had already begun. A lot of people tend to complain when heroes are "repeated" across multiple sets while others are omitted entirely, but the obvious benefit of this is that it allows for fewer unique helmet designs.

The beasts and the machines both look awesome, although the posing of the back legs of Surge and Rocka Combat Machine is a bit lousy. Tunneler Beast looks great even for a fairly small model, Crystal Beast has all kinds of transparent light blue goodness (a trait shared with many of the summer Legends of Chima sets), and Queen Beast looks mighty imposing! Meanwhile, all the machines offer creative non-humanoid builds (Rocka Climber Machine is the most traditional humanoid among them).
