Favorite BZPower Memories

Fighty

Recommended Posts

Maybe it's just that my highschool career is quickly coming to a close, but I've been feeling especially nostalgic as of late. And with my recent return to BZPower, I've been reflecting on how much the site has impacted me over my almost-six years of membership. Two of my favorite experiences were participating in the old Ben 10 RPG (my first text-based RPG), and joining my first multi-author comic series, the sprite comic Found, a not-so-subtle parody of the TV show Lost.

Anyways, I pose the question to you all: what are some of your favorite BZPower memories? :)

Man that's a lot.

I guess my first really big BZPower memory would be when I shot to "super stardom" in the Comedies forum at the beginning of 2011 (three years ago already what). The Comedy Forum Expo in 2012 was a lot of fun as well to do.

Joining the RPG forum to play War Zone is a big memory, and Day Run: The Garden as a whole was one of my favorite BZP experiences. The forum doesn't really interest me anymore, although Masquerade (by Parugi, who did Day Run) was revitalizing that interest until the hacking wiped it out.

The Mafia games are sort of one big mush for me, although specifically the Third Age has been lots of fun. I always knew I could be really good at Mafia, but it wasn't until last year that I started taking that to the next level, and I've had so much fun ever since. Mafia kept me on BZPower last year. This also wouldn't be complete without mentioning Bionifight, which as a series is also a very good memory. Going from player to assistant host in the second game, and then co-hosting the third, hosting the fourth myself (which is still the biggest topic in the G&T forum), and rebooting the series with the current game has been spectacular.

And finally, my blog - especially with recent additions made last year. I'm talking about the "Smash Files" series, detailing news and my hype for the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game. There's also "The Best Ever", a contest to decide BZP's favorite video game characters. Those are fun to do.

I have so many, it would be a loss to pick a favorite. I could say "anything involving bonesiii" and "anything involving ibrow" and that would cover a big chunk of it. Then there's the Random Insights series and the Google Chrome Themes Project - both times.

Then there are all the discussions, the contests, the topics full of wit...I give up. I have a detailed memory - if I name one moment of triumph or laughter or insight as the best, I'll think something is better next week.

That is such a hard question. I definitely have fond memories of the early RPG days and great talks with some of the guys over there. Launching the blogs and putting the whole staff system in place was probably one of my first really big BZP projects and I'll definitely remember it fondly.

There's tons of others though - way too many to count.

One of my favorite memories was posting my first Bionicle short story in the SS Forum called The Agori. Though it was erased in the Forum data loss (and I didn't save a back up of it, which I still reget), I still consider it the best story I've ever written and/or posted on BZP. I remember a lot of people liking it too.

I have other great memories about my exiperences on BZP. I just can't remember any of them at the moment. :P

The most nostalgic BZP experience for me is the Pre-Dataclysm RPG days. Those were the days that I first fostered my storytelling and more importantly, literacy. Though most of that activity was cringeworthy in noobishness, It was still my first characters, my first experiences. I RPed alongside many of the forum's old guard, and saw four BZPRPG seasons end.

I occasionally return to BZP for a nostalgic trip back. Hit me up on discord if you need anything.

Man, I remember being a kid and not having to care about anything other than if my comics topic died. No college, no GPA, no workplace issues, no car troubles, no rent...just opening up Photoshop and copying and pasting sprites.

I remember one night, I had this comic due for Lavaside Rahi's Comic Advent Calendar? And I just got a bunch of my best friends on Skype and we talked and I worked until like 7 in the morning and everyone else had fallen asleep. I didn't have to worry about anything the next morning, I just sat down and did it and had a blast, laughed it up with friends, throwing jokes at the board and seeing if they stuck. Crammed a bunch of in-jokes into it, made some real sucky backgrounds because I needed them and I needed them fast.

I had this long argument with this guy because I think his kit looked like someone else's kit? Like, it wasn't even my kit that it looked like, it was this other guy's who had left and I was a huge fan of... Anyhow, I guess I sat down for ages and argued with him about it. I just had the time to do that. Nothing else was important to care about.

That's a odd thing to be nostalgic for, I guess, but that's my best memories on here. That's what I remember a lot. It was fun. For the most part.

Ironically (at least, I think it is ironic), my best memories of BZP come from a time BEFORE I actually had an account here. In gearing up for a vacation, I loaded all the BZPowercast episodes (around 30 at the time) onto my iPhone. I learned a good deal about BZP from those, and, even before I joined the forums themselves (I wasn't able to at the time, because of The Great Dataclysm), I felt like I knew a large amount of you.

I also really liked when Smeagol4/McSmeag was a name of honour on the forums.

Usual things like:

- When I became staff, and before then when I became a COT RPG Judge.

- All of the instances where I met friends through the website.

- Working on RPG's and playing them actively.

- Writing and reading stories on the website.

- When Exo-Fat and some others put together that RP-focused podcast thing that I was involved with.

But Ga is still one of my favorite memories.

I'll always cherish becoming an OBZPC more so than either of my staff promotions. I literally got up and did a dance when I achieved copperhood, whereas I was merely excited when I achieved staffly powers.

If we're going to count things that happened because of (or merely tangentially related to) BZP, then I'd have to go with the week that Brickeens spent at my house before Brickfair '12. All kinds of epic.

I miss Tuggles.

oh MAN tuggles. I'm not sure I was there when they were first posted but I know they were really neat, even though they were really just modified hoi.

Some of my favorite memories are any time BAC has placed well in a contest, but thats only recent memories. Then there's when I made Squidbuds and they became an instant hit.

I miss my days in the creative forums, where I wasn't real good at anything but I savored every reply I got

I loved messing around with the BBCode in my signature and making my profile my own

creating a dozen terrible kits and failed starts in tiny side projects and being inspired by everything everyone did and wanting to improve

scrolling through all the forums with my topics to see if any of them had new replies

talking to people and being jealous of their proto level or post count and sending in a dozen sig reports per day trying to milk another drop of proto

throwing my hat in the ring in the BBCs and being terrible and loving every minute of it

marveling at others' mask collections and their relationship with other members offsite

making friends and making enemies and losing one or the other with time

becoming better

I think some of my fondest memories were the April Fools day pranks. The one that immediately comes to mind was the year BZPower became VahkiPower for a day. I couldn't access the site quite as readily as I was used to, but that was just so cool to me.

I also vaguely remember GaliGee's epics, specifically the one where she was held captive by Makuta. And another one that was kind of like Takua's diary before, during, and after his transformation into Takanuva. Those were good times.

And the Clash of the Titans BBC Contest. That was so much epic all at once.

I miss Tuggles.

THE FEELS! ;-;

But I've been on here so long that I just can't count how many fond memories I've had on this site. When the Bionicle story was still going through its mid life crisis, I was always excited to get a reply from Greg about the latest theory I had. It was really cool that he set aside some time for the fans.

Then there were all of my old bzpower friends that are nowhere to be found, my really old and really terrible comic series, then there was reading Tales of the Chibi Toa, reading all of those silly movie parodies by SPIRIT, and entering contests even though I never won first.

Those were the days.

Probably the 2008 sets topic. Before it got spammy and shut down, it was one of the funnest places on the forum to be for someone who truly enjoyed the sets.

Oh man I remember watching that thread. I don't remember what was in it (since I was not yet a member), but I followed it probably more than I ever followed anything on this site again.

The unrelenting hordes of script comedies with pie jokes and "randomness".

Dark times.

But I cherished them. The days when Comedies was actually relevant, if only in the way a giant sea cucumber was relevant.

The 2010 storyline of the BZPRPG as well. It was there I really got into the RPing scene here.

Man, I forgot about that. In retrospect, that was pretty cool.

I guess my favorite time in BZP was around 10-11 years ago, when most of my friends still visited this site.

Not gonna lie, the days when the Rayg kit ruled the comics forum were good times. :P

Okay, I actually forgot one of my favorite memories: the Rayg Sprite Maker. Dude, back when I was actually active in the comics forum I would use that thing sooooo often.

Well, this is an interisting question for a member who's been on BZP for 11 months...but my best memories were from before my account got wiped. I remember posting idiotic questions in the "Ask Greg a Question Compendium" topic thingy. That would probably be my favorite, but I also liked posting a profile in the BZPRPG and failing at playing.

(after I made a new account) I also have fond memories of MakutaFest 2013, reading Staff Survivor II and BZP's anniversary. I also remember my time on the forums back in '09, '10 and '11...nothing specific though

Many memories in AWIII. The people, the drama, the fun, the in-jokes and the hours spent on photoshop.

A lot of memories in BZPC too. It still exists, but it's not the same anymore.

I rarely visit this website anymore, but many fun times were had. I come for the nostalgia. BZP's on life support, but I'm glad that it's not dying in vain. I hope the future remains bright.

So many memories of the Library forum from way back when. Most of my friends are gone now, but we had some great times. I still remember epics like Gladiator and Glitch in the System, and I even had an epic of my own back in 2006 or something. Nostalgia galore.

However, nothing can compare to the memories I've made playing in the BZPRPG. I've been playing for something around three years now, and met so many awesome people, written a ton of great stories, and had some of the best times of my life.

  • 2 weeks later...

So many memories I don't even know where to begin. I'll just list the ones that immediately come to mind:

Being a member of the Epics Critics Club was great. Had tons of fun reviewing epics and hanging out with my fellow critics on Skype (most of whom I'm still friends with, actually).

Posting (and, more importantly, finishing) my first ever comedy, My Bionicle Road Trip, was pretty fun, too. Yeah, it was terribly written dreck, but it was my terribly written dreck. The comedy itself is not on BZP anymore (you can thank the Dataclysm for that), but I will always remember the fun times I had with my readers and the fun times I had writing the crazy thing.

Being able to ask Greg questions about the Bionicle story was really awesome. How many other fandoms get to talk directly to the writer of the franchise itself? It may very well have been one of BZP's best selling points back in the old days. It was definitely one of my favorite parts.

BZP has given me a lot of good memories and experiences over the years. It hasn't been completely perfect, obviously, but I don't regret joining this site for one minute. The good times and good experiences, for me at least, trump the bad ones every time, and always will.

Takanuva speculation, the first appearance of the plushie fad, comics and comedies with weird random obsessions (Sprite and pie seemed popular), sig hatchlings/dragon eggs.

The only thing important that ever happened to me here was that this was the first site I used the alias "Meiko" on, which has since become my most-known-by alias in the LEGO community other than my real name.

All I ever did here was chitchat in LEGO general discussion topics, which is what I do on basically ever LEGO fan community I'm a part of, so I can't really call it my favourite memory. I guess joining a LUG was a cool opportunity I had from being here.

Man, just reading all these posts...too many feels.

At any rate, I remember I used to spend most of my time in the now almost non-existent Comedies forum, writing a ridiculous amount of drivel. I did, however, hit a few bullseyes, with comedies such as Vezon Gets a Job, Bionicles + Me = Craziness, and Three Matoran, a Bucket, and a Manas. (Anyone else remember that contest?)

More recently, I have to admit it's been great seeing my comics slowly but surely become a lot better over time, thanks largely to the support I've received over the years.

BZPower's almost dead, but it's been a fun journey, if one that seemed much too short.

Anybody remember Master of Bionicle? I thought that was tops.

Also, I gotta say back when The Academy first won the RPG Contest, and all the players were first figuring out how things were going to go down. Zyrul, Mythias and Kyshim and all them were definitely not the most complex characters, but we had some crazy-good fun.
