(Warning in advance - if you don’t feel like reading the intro, there’s a TL;DR version below it)

I can hear them coming. Their breathing weighs heavily upon this air. Isolation in total silence for a millennium has sharpened my hearing to the brink of ultrasound, and their breaths are just loud enough for me to hear.

Their steps are muffled, in order to avoid alerting me to their presence. Whispers touch the air gently and mix in a dark, tempting sensation. It’s as if death was trying to seduce me.

Well, I sure as Karzahni will not submit to this temptation. I have spent far too long locked in the darkest cell in the universe. It is time that I change something. It is time for me to rectify this broken universe, to return to a point where the mistakes of the past can still be fixed.

They realize when I hit the killswitch faster than anything actually happens, as their breathing and steps hasten a grand total of four to five times before the doors actually seal and the corridors go dark. I now proceed, caution thrown out the window, taking rapid steps forward down a corridor as black as the darkness that I have caused to rise.

There are universes that have the potential to go much better. I will find such a universe… and I will live.

I reach the end of the line – the Hall of the Master. It is said that many millennia before, there was a Matoran maskmaker of great skill and talent, who built this hall to house all his mighty creations. Now, however, there remains only one mask. It was the Shadow, the true Master, Teridax the Shadowking, who left it here. As a failsafe. I know not why he never used it. It seems he was under a delusion that his collapse was still fixable.

Another legend spoke even more differently: that it was to this room that the Toa Mahri gathered after the destruction of Karda Nui. That they sacrificed their power, in a hopeless attempt to awaken the Great Spirit in a foolish delusion that it was their destiny or the right place for such a feat. That ever after they wandered the lands as Turaga, unknown to Matoran. Clearly this theory was entirely incorrect, otherwise I wouldn’t be here right now. I’d have blended in for long enough to get off this filthy city.

It’s that last mask, the Olmak, that is standing alone, neglected, on a shelf at the far end of this room. I can hear their filthy paws hammering at the door. No matter. By the time they break in, I’ll be gone.

I must live. I have never in my entire lifetime felt it as strongly: I must live.

My name is… well, it’s irrelevant, really! What you need to know is what I call myself, not what my actual name is. I call myself Vengeance, defier of kings, protector of women and children, father of the people in these troubled times.

Welcome to Metru Nui, the city of a thousand fires. And a few hundred other ways of destroying buildings and property. We’re working on more cost-efficient methods as we speak.

Over there, my friends, you can see the Coliseum, seat of government for a part of Metru Nui that includes little more than the actual Coliseum. With the unforeseen, unpredictable and unexpected deaths of many a Turaga, Vakama, the lone surviving Turaga, has convened a council of warriors, strategists, half-decent economists and lawyers. This council, a council of thirteen of Metru Nui’s most influential citizens, has become known as the Circle.

How did the situation escalate to a point where all other Turaga were slain and the city lies in chaos, you ask? Well. To tell that story, one must begin in the early days of this last millennium, at a great battle in the swamps of Karda Nui. The Toa Nuva, heroes of the olden days, engaged the toughest agents of the Brotherhood of Makuta in the Heart of the Universe, and they prevailed; most of the Makuta were slain, and it seemed as if the Toa would finally fulfill their destinies and awaken the Great Spirit.

But it was not to be so.

There was a Makuta by the name of Mutran. An intelligent man by any possible meaning of the term, Mutran, while his comrades were off fighting the Toa, set off the biggest demolition charges that I have ever seen since the dawn of time. Arguably speaking, of course, I never actually saw them, because if I had, I wouldn’t be here. Karda Nui did not survive that explosion, and neither did anyone in it. The deepest dome of the universe collapsed entirely, its roof caving in, never to let any Matoran, Toa, or Makuta in again.

Now, with this situation, we didn’t exactly have much an issue, to be honest with you. Of course, the death of the Toa Nuva was a tragedy, and that Helryx woman seemed to be pretty ticked when the Order of Mata Nui finally took its armies in a storm on Destral, the fortress-island of the Makuta, but to the average Matoran… so what if this Great Spirit fellow would not wake up? As long as he wasn’t dying, and the Makuta were losing and eventually lost the war, everything was fine. We won the war, exterminated or imprisoned all Makuta, and peace settled down over the land. Everything was going smoothly.

Famous last words.

To this beautiful city of ours, hundreds of immigrants from the southern lands started to arrive. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against immigrants. There were people who had, however.

A bunch of bloody gangsters, Turaga Dume decried them to be. No, not the immigrants. He was referring to a gang of locals who would hang around the new arrivals, misusing the poverty of those newfound settlers, luring them into often even criminal activity. This gang was just as likely to beat the immigrants up as it was to provide them a job, even if one shady as all ######.

From this gang sprung the poisoned tree known as the Blades.

At first they were just your average everyday gang, running around Le-Metru and Po-Metru, coughing up coppers from local merchants for the sake of “protecting them from any possible… accidents”. Things escalated, however. Things have a way of escalating.

The Blades grew. And on one fortunate outing to one of the Le-Metru immigrant slums, they picked up a new recruit: a local Toa by the name of Elan. Soon, of course, like every good gangster, Elan dismissed his old name in favor of an alias that everyone in Metru Nui would soon learn: Swordshifter.

He grew quickly through the ranks. There, he befriended another young Toa. This particular young Toa happens to be yours truly. Together with Swordshifter, I, Vengeance, rapidly grew in the ranks of our ever-expanding gang. We tricked and murdered and lied our way forward, and considering the gang wasn’t even that big at the time, it wasn’t that much an achievement that we managed to soon become the duumvirate that ruled and ordered around this little gang of ours.

With my dear friend, we had lots in common. Both of us had great, lofty goals: to grow out of being just members of a criminal syndicate. He, a lowly immigrant from the Northern Continent, and I, an equally common former soldier, both wanted the same thing: to be important. To be more than gangsters. We wanted to be kings.

Of course, it’s difficult to be a king when you’re not seated on a throne, and it’s even harder to be a king when there’s a Turaga seated there instead. So we took to announcing our presence to the world in a way that would not soon be forgotten.

It was a single bomb blast in Turaga Dume’s quarters. A single bomb blast was all that was needed. Old fool probably really didn’t expect that we’d do something quite as… well, wrong.

I didn’t, either. I realized what I had done only after it had already happened. And the worst part is, it didn’t stop there. The Blades spread. They - we - took my home of Ta-Metru, and seized all effective control of Onu-Metru so thoroughly that it became impossible for Toa or any other soldiers loyal to the Turaga to pass through there. More Turaga died, one by one, all in circumstances that very clearly pointed to Blade complicitly - because we were complicit. It was all our doing. And the more wrong we did… the more I felt ill about it. I suddenly realized that Elan and I had entirely different notions of kingship. For me, after all, on some basic level, other people always mattered. Even to those I had displaced in my climb among the ranks of the Blades I had shown courtesy and my own, admittedly arbitrary, sort of justice. Ultimately, when Elan gave the order to force the Sea Gates to the south closed, I knew things had gone utterly wrong.

I, however, could not end these mistakes of mine so simply as to stand up and walk away. We suddenly discovered ourselves in an entirely different situation than we had anticipated: the law suddenly stopped pretending we weren’t there. With Vakama left as the sole Turaga standing, he found himself at leisure to reform government entirely: he founded what we know as the Circle. A council of generals, economists, and other species of moron. These, however, were efficient morons: they declared total war on us, literally attacking suspected members of gangs and carting them off to a newly furnished prison under the Coliseum. Whether they were actually members of gangs did not matter much. I suddenly realized that now was the time to claim my kingship not by right of conquest, but by right of justice - if not me, then nobody else will protect the commonfolk from both the Circle and the Blades. It was my time to save this city.

I quit my job. But not alone.

With me came an entire army. The Blades in the districts of Ta-Metru and Onu-Metru largely pledged their allegiances to me rather than Swordshifter - who, naturally, stopped viewing me as a friend. Pity. But I suppose it cannot be helped. With these detractors, I founded a new gang. A gang that I named in honor of what I expected of them: the Fury.

Meanwhile, as me and Elan engaged each other in a struggle for power while simultaneously avoiding the crackdowns of the Circle, in the north, in Po-Metru, among the carvers and the local immigrants, a local Skakdi named Nuadh, an immigrant from Zakaz, started up his own gang. This gang functioned quite differently from the already established Blades and my Fury. Largely a spontaneous decision, it made the fact that it was established by an immigrant much like a lot of Po-Metru’s modernday population its selling point. Earning a respectable reputation as the protectors of the immigrant against the onslaught of a generally unfriendly government and the constant bullying - if you can call it that, I prefer the term “assistance” - by the Blades and Fury, this gang grew larger and larger. Ultimately, when the Circle’s crackdown began, it became one of the first gangs to stand up, go out into the open, take up arms and, in a literal example of a militant uprising, they seized much of Po-Metru, ransacking most businesses and houses that would not side with them, constructing a large, fortified camp on the northern coastline. They took the name “Northwinds”, reportedly because they wanted to create an image of a chilly northern wind that will overtake this city.

These are the three gangs of this city. The Blades, the Fury, and the Northwinds. And although the Circle might maintain otherwise, they’re as much a gang as anyone. This, my friends, is the story - the legend - the epic of the Gangs of Metru Nui.

TL;DR

This game, a reboot of the original Gangs of Metru Nui, is set in a dystopian Metru Nui which has disintegrated into outright civil war as three gangs - the Fury, the Blades, and the Northwinds - have taken to wresting control of the city from the Circle, an interim government formed by Turaga Vakama in this time of crisis. The word “gangs” is used liberally - a more accurate term might be “personal armies”, beholden to their leaders, Swordshifter, Vengeance and Nuadh. Each gang is as much an enemy to each other as they are to the Circle, and will eagerly kill, trick, lie and chute-race their rivals into submission. The Sea Gates are sealed shut and buried under rubble, so the Circle cannot expect support from abroad (most notably from the Toa Mahri, who were away from the city at the time and thus are also locked out), and the locals have nowhere to flee. Chaos is rampant, poverty is spreading, and immigrants suffer discrimination.

A couple of things must be noted to the players of the original: I am sorry to admit that I remember very little of the original game - embarrassing, because it’s -my- game. I remembered only the faction names and Swordshifter’s name, and the basic plotline. Ergo, I have given the leaders of the Northwinds and the Fury entirely new names, so if anyone actually REMEMBERS what the original names were, feel free to kick me.

Factions

The Circle - the theoretical government of Metru Nui, the Circle remains in control of the Coliseum, Ga-Metru, and a militia formed from Toa, Matoran and other peoples who remained loyal to their rule. It is a military council headed by Turaga Vakama and is composed of him and twelve other members. Decisions in the Circle are made by vote among the members of the council - a majority of the council’s members must approve a decision for it to be considered valid. This council, however, invites no criticism or even opinion from the lower strata of society, and only rarely consults other members of the higher strata. This rift between the government and the people only deepens the people’s disdain for the Circle, provoking more people to back groups opposed to them, be they criminal or no. Their insistence upon various violations of privacy and civil rights, put in place in order to “combat gang warfare”, has not helped.

The Blades - the oldest and largest of the three gangs, the Blades are headed by Swordshifter, a mysterious Toa whose actual identity and even appearance remain anonymous to most of Metru Nui. His location, too, is uncertain - unlike Vengeance and Nuadh, Swordshifter prefers not to spend time with his men, only rarely appearing in the Blades’ main base in Le-Metru. His orders are usually delivered via radio channels to the Blades, who now control both Le-Metru and Ko-Metru and are waging a constant war with the Fury and the Circle in their border streets. The Blades have, on average, very little in the way of morality or honor - they are, of the three gangs, the most similar to an actual gang, with a tightly organized hierarchy and a strong tendency towards various types of banditry.

The Fury - formed by defectors from the Blades and led by the Blades’ once-deputy leader, Vengeance, the Fury is a fighting force of borderline professionals trained to the brink of perfection due to Vengeance’s insistence on having almost military-grade training programs. His tactics have proven extremely successful, as the Fury has managed to seize both Ta-Metru and Onu-Metru from the Blades and the Circle, cutting off important supply centers for military and generally many other sorts of tech. Unlike the Blades, the Fury focus not simply on gaining wealth and power, but also on rectifying perceived injustices, which was the initial reason for the Fury/Blades split. This has led to relatively safe living conditions in districts that they control, as long as you pay every time you’re given a shakedown.

The Northwinds - the Northwinds aren’t necessarily so much a gang as they are a reaction to a century of mistreatment of immigrants and racial minorities. With the appearance of the Blades and, later, the Fury, the government of Metru Nui has proven often irrationally unfriendly to immigrants from the south, among whom many new recruits for the gangs were gathered quite easily - even if they were by no means the majority of the members of these gangs. This proved especially troublesome in Po-Metru, where the local immigrants were constantly bullied by both the Circle and recruiters from the two other gangs, in some worse cases being forced into separate settlements apart from the “natives” so the government could “monitor” their activity. In reaction, a Skakdi named Nuadh formed the Northwinds, originally marketed as a defence force for the local immigrants, who eventually became so powerful that they managed evicting the Circle from most of Po-Metru entirely. The Northwinds now are based in a fortified settlement on Po-Metru’s northern coast that they call the Dún, after an ancient Xian word for “fortress”. From there they raid the rest of Po-Metru and even make forays into Ga-Metru, gathering their strength and waging a ceaseless defensive war against the Circle.

Locations

Ta-Metru - The Metru of Fire and industrial center of Metru Nui, Ta-Metru’s loss was catastrophic for the Metru Nui officials; the upstarts in the Fury quickly seized the entire district and cut off the Kanohi trade, many of the high-quality weapons, and even the disks required for Akilini. Despite the blockade the district has not been ill treated by the Fury, and apart from the inconsequential thing about the gang occupation it’s almost a nice place to live and make a living. The Fury’s main base is located here, in what was once a foundry and is now an invincible fortification unlikely to be taken by any man anytime soon. The Fury call the place the Homestead in a manner that is almost affectionate.

Ga-Metru - The Metru of Water, Ga-Metru is the last Metru fully held by the Circle. In recent times the Metru’s life has largely been centered around the large shadow of Fort Gali; a constant garrison mans the fort’s walls, and it has never been breached. Inside Fort Gali are several hospitals, each named for one of the Turaga - their forebearers outside the fort’s walls, given the honorific “Old” [Turaga here] Hospital, still lie largely abandoned and represent the constant progress the Circle still seeks to foster and enforce throughout Metru Nui. Outside Fort Gali many education centers are still open and cater to any Matoran refugee seeking to learn. The Great Temple is also centered in Ga-Metru.

Ko-Metru - Once a foil to Ga-Metru and a center of knowledge for all Metru Nui, Ko-Metru is one of the two finalists - with Le-Metru - as the most changed district in the city after the gang takeover. The Blades turned the entire place into one large series of watchtowers, using the once proud, handsomely austere Knowledge Towers to scout for Circle forces or other gangs while scholars were ruffed up and shaken down. The streets are silent now, as silent as the towers used to be; it is a ghost town in the midst of an ice age, and Matoran are rarely seen leaving their homes or workplaces to go somewhere. Things have ground to a halt; amongst the other Metru joking comparisons are made between occupied Ko-Metru and a snow globe. The jokers have no idea how right they are.

Onu-Metru - The home of the Archives, and admittedly not much else, Onu-Metru’s takeover by the Fury was quick and bloodless, even moreso than Ta-Metru. The underground district is rarely contested, and many of the Onu-Matoran have settled in the best they can during occupation. The lone exception is a group of a dozen Archivists who set loose several exhibits in one of the shadier corners of the Archives, and a repeat of that little mishap would not bear repeating, but other than that...

Po-Metru - Po-Metru is a district embattled; it is the only Metru that is in a constant state of war between the Northwinds, who control everything north of the Po-Onu border, and the Circle, who controls the third of the district bordering the Coliseum. After the loss of Ta-Metru, Po-Metru became critical to the Metru Nui government and they mounted their largest offensive to date to bring the District of Stone back to heel. On the district’s northern coast, the Dún, a fortified settlement ringed by a double palisade (and a stone wall being under construction), populated by the entirety of the Northwinds, stands.

Le-Metru - If Ta-Metru’s loss was a blow, and the continued war over Po-Metru was a festering wound, the loss of Le-Metru to the Blades was a death knell to Metru Nui’s industry. The loss of the Moto-Hub and the vehicle testers meant that what few machines leaked out to the Circle were untested, and their mechanics and operators had to learn how to activate, use, and repair them on the fly. The Blades, meanwhile, have geared the entire Metru into one large profiteering racket, using several of the old hubs as nuclei for illegal chute racing. Many such racers can be seen zooming overhead at any given time; the occupation is exceedingly dangerous and generally fatal, but racks up a serious profit for the brave and the stupid. Various bases for the Blades are located in the district, the main base being located in the former Moto-Hub, now called the Grand Hub.

Coliseum - The nerve center of Metru Nui, the Coliseum became the main fallback point for the Circle outside Ga-Metru. From here, the main generals and political leaders of the city maintain the runnings of the parts of the city still under their control, plan and mount offensives on gang-controlled turf, and store “deviants and dissidents” (read: political prisoners) in “rehabilitation centers” (read: dark, solitary cellars) under the structure proper.

Rules

1. No godmodding. For those who do not know, godmodding is performing an action that your character should not be able to perform. Common forms include;

-Insta-dodging, when attacks can't hit you, even when they should.

-Meta-gaming, when your character knows things they shouldn't, just because you, the player, know them.

-Though it lacks an actual term, one of the most common forms is simply performing attacks, or withstanding them, that your character simply should not be able to do. Play within your limits.

2.Your character must be approved before you can post.

3.Listen to, and respect, the staff. They are the staff for a reason. If you feel that you are being dealt with unfairly, go to the Head GM and he will discuss it with you.

4. You may have up to 6 characters.

5. Follow the BZPower rules, and the Forum rules.

6. The game takes place in Metru Nui. This must be noted separately because in the original game, there was a ridiculous amount of attempts to leave the city. Let me make this clear: sure, you can dig yourself out of the dome and into the barren wasteland of Mata Nui, or wherever you like, but you can’t actually roleplay any of your adventures outside of Metru Nui.

Staff NPCs

Name: Swordshifter (originally Elan)

Gender: Male (reportedly)

Species: Toa

Kanohi: Hau

Element: The Green

Faction: Blades (Leader)

Appearance: Rumor has it (because few men have ever actually seen him) that this Toa of the Green has a tall, lanky build, and a noticeable scar across his mask’s left-hand side. Another rumor speaks of an amulet in the shape of an ash bear’s head, apparently given to the Toa by a long-lost comrade. His armor is a mixture of the colors green and blue, the Kanohi, hands and feet being blue and the rest being green.

Powers: Nothing aside from his natural Toa powers of controlling plantlife and his Kanohi power of shielding.

Equipment: Two katanas fashioned from Xian protosteel.

Skills: Swordshifter is an excellent swordfighter, as evidenced by his choice of nickname, and rather experienced in matters of hacking and various other forms of computing.

Weaknesses: He is simply tragic with a bow.

Bio: Swordshifter’s real name, although known only to a select few people, is Elan. Originally a Bo-Matoran from the Southern Continent, Elan came to Metru Nui about two years after the end of the Order of Mata Nui-Brotherhood of Makuta war, and became a Toa under unclear circumstances. Around this time Elan was recruited into a mercenary company known as the Silver Bloods. It is also around this time that any record of him disappears entirely for the next ten years. Ten years later, he is abruptly once again mentioned in governmental documents as a suspect for the murder of his best friend, a Vortixx by the name of Ria. Around this time, Elan is once again living in poverty, having failed to successfully establish himself with the Silver Bloods and, soon enough, he is recruited by a local gang known as the Blades that would soon become something much, much more dangerous. By a series of assassinations of Turaga, Swordshifter, as he now called himself, established himself as the uncrowned king of the Metru Nuian crime world, threatened only by reforms in government and his former comrade, Vengeance.

Name: Vengeance (real name unknown)

Gender: Male

Species: Toa

Kanohi: Mask of Charisma

Element: Fire

Faction: Fury (Leader)

Appearance: This tall, handsome Toa of Fire’s armor is a swirling, almost chaotic mixture of the colors black and red, mixing in such a way that no actual pattern seems to be there. His mask, however, is entirely red, golden lights glimmering in his eyeholes.

Powers: His elemental powers to control fire and his mask power, which allows him to subtly change a target’s perception of events and ideas.

Equipment: Vengeance wields a spear as his melee weapon and a Lightstone Rifle as his ranged weapon, using these two interchangeably.

Skills: Vengeance is extremely skilled in various sorts of combat, as well as the arts of circumlocution and other sorts of verbal trickery. He is a persuasive, charming sort of personality, and not only due to his mask power - he commands the true and honest loyalty of most of the Fury.

Weaknesses: Vengeance, due to some unclear reasons, is downright dreadful with any sort of relatively advanced tech. Don’t let him near a computer if you don’t want it to explode.

Bio: Vengeance’s origins are unclear to the Circle, and to most other people as well - the majority of the members of the Fury and the Blades who knew him before he joined the latter are now long dead due to a particular habit of living dangerously. Vengeance is a charismatic, well-liked leader, who commands much respect and admiration from his men for bravely fighting alongside them, often in the front lines of battle, and often taking his time to talk to even the lowest runts in the Fury’s ranks.

Name: Vakama

Gender: Male

Species: Turaga

Kanohi: Noble Huna, Mask of Concealment

Element: Fire

Faction: Circle (Leader)

Appearance:

Powers: A barely-there grasp of his former Elemental Fire energies and the fleeting ability to use his Noble Huna to cloak himself from view.

Equipment: Vakama wields his old Badge of Office, his Firestaff, as his equipment.

Skills: Vakama is a skilled negotiator and orator, and has cultivated quite a bit of goodwill with the Matoran thanks to his years and years of service. He is also quite a bit stronger than he looks, though age has sapped much of the power he once held and his transition from Toa to Turaga did the rest. (See Weaknesses.)

Weaknesses: As a Turaga of particularly advanced age, Vakama does not have the endurance or power to withstand continued assault. If left without an escape option, he is a sitting duck.

Bio: A practical legend in his own right from his past as a Toa Metru and Turaga of Mata Nui, Vakama watched one by one as all the Turaga - all his brothers and sisters, his oldest friends - died around him. When Matau went, already driven half out of his mind in darkness and paranoia, Vakama revitalized the Circle and formed it in his own image - a coalition of the brightest military mights, economic scholars, and charismatic public representatives. While the gangs slowly eat up more and more of Metru Nui, Vakama has taken more of an active role in the governance on his councils, especially when it comes to undoing the conquests of Po-Metru and his home of Ta-Metru.

Name: Nuadh

Gender: Male

Species: Skakdi

Kanohi: N/A

Element: Skakdi of Magnetism

Faction: Northwinds (Leader)

Appearance: Nuadh, as with most Skakdi, stands taller than a Toa. Unlike most Skakdi, Nuadh stands taller than his own race, too. While mentally far from the stereotypical Skakdi, Nuadh very much looks the part. Taller than the average member of his own race by a head, every inch of his form is muscle, built for athleticism and conflict. His armor is steel gray with the slightest tint of blue, rarely noticed underneath the scratches and dings that have accumulated over the years. The trademark grin of his species is somewhat downplayed, ranging from a frown to a vaguely satisfied grin under most circumstances, set beneath two vibrant orange eyes.

Powers: In conjunction with another member of his species, Nuadh has access to his element. Without it, he possess Impact Vision, and a remarkable durability similar to that of one of his fellows, Reidak, though by all appearances, he lacks the ability to adapt after each fight.

Equipment: Nuadh's equipment varies, but one constant remains; a battered and scratched protosteel longsword, a relic from a thousand fights. His armament is often supplmented by devices such as knuckledusters and daggers. When taking to the battlefield for anything for than a skirmish, he often makes use of a Hagah Plasma Cannon.

Skills: Nuadh isn't all that book smart, but he is very, very clever. He tends to be very good at rallying his own troops, and his skill in combat is incredible, honed by years of battle both before and during his time on Metru Nui.

Weaknesses: Nuadh's most notable weakness lies in his relative lack of powers. When you reside on a battlefield where many combatants can spew fire or lightning at a whim, relying on another ally to be able to do the same is a very large flaw. As such, his skill at using his element is limited to broad applications.

Bio: Nuadh grew up on Zakaz, and as such, has been fighting for most of his life. Opportunity eventually came in the form of a trade vessel that stopped at the island, one that was hiring guards. Nuadh signed on with no regrets, and at the voyage's end, found himself in Metru Nui just before the formation of the Blades. With the level of animosity he found, and the Circle's subseqent crackdown, it should be no real surprise that he ended up in conflict with both the law and the lawless. What did come as a surprise, at least to he Circle, was his ability to draw others to his cause. Within a few weeks he had a small crew, within a month a gang, and within three months he had formed the Northwinds. Though originally a banner for the downtrodden foreigners, it has become something of a group for the downtrodden in general, be it by the other gangs or by the Circle.

A word from the staff

Aye, it’s been a while since we here at BZPower last played this game. Today, it comes back with a renewed staff - .saorsa (Dovydas), the original maker of the game, and two players of the original game, Tyler Durden (Tyler) and Simon the Digger (Krayzikk), and each member of the staff would like to first say a few words.

Myself, I’ll be short: I’ll take this opportunity to thank all those who have made this game into what it is and myself into what I am. I thank all the players of the original game, all the roleplayers I’ve roleplayed with over the years, all my friends and all my family, and I hope that we can create another epic as fantastic as the original tale of the Gangs of Metru Nui. Let’s make this a good one. -Dovydas (.saorsa)

Well, I suppose I'm up, then. I'd like to thank, first and foremost, the crew of the first Techna for staffing the game that arguably formed the brunt of my staffing "education". Though much unchanged, I'd like to thank the staff of the second as well, for that was my first appointment. I've helped out in a few games since, but those were the first. I'd like to thank those I've played with over the years, both in this forum, and later in the OTC. And most importantly, I thank all of you with the patience to actually read this. :P -Krayzikk (Simon the Digger)

Many times in my young life, when life has given me lemons, it tends to be at the exact, inopportune moment where I’m pining for some grape juice. This Gangs of Metru Nui reboot is one of the first times in my time on BZP where I got an industrial-size bottle of Welch’s instead of the lemons, and for that, I’d like to thank Dovydas, my once-conjoined marginally less attractive brother. One of my greatest wishes is that we could spend the years we missed together being raised by a benevolent mother bear under a snowdrift in the harsh tundra of Lithuania, and the time lost we can n

NPC IC: (Onu-Metru)

On that fateful day, in the damp, shadowed lower tunnels of the Archives, a thousand Rahi of names yet unwritten found themselves in the very uncomfortable situation of their eternal, comforting darkness being briefly penetrated by just a single ray of light. If a more sapient, aware of his surroundings being would've been watching the situation, they would've no doubt discovered that said ray of light was caused by a lightstone, accompanied by some torches, carried down the tunnels by a Toa of Fire accompanied by a handful of warriors whose disposition - not half as confident as that of the Toa of Fire's - was clear unflinching evidence on who here was the leader.

To an observer entirely unaware as to the whole status of the city at this point, the identity of the Toa may have remained a mystery. However, to the absolute majority of the city's inhabitants, it was very, very clear.

The Toa's name was fire. It was anger. It was Fury. It was Vengeance.

"Vengeance..." muttered one of the Fury leader's bodyguards, a comparably short Vortixx holding a rhotuka launcher, quietly as if afraid to provoke the darkness and all that lurks within it. "What are we doing here? We oughtn't be here. We ought to still be licking our wounds from that last attempt to take Sector Three..."

"Shush," Vengeance flatly dismissed the Xian's concern. "See, Alkosh, my dear friend... we've heard certain rumors that I've hinted to you about already. That a few more dangerous Rahi have reportedly escaped the Archives. And if that were to prove to be true, well, it would be less than pleasant for all of us, I can assure you."

It was only when they emerged from a more narrow tunnel out into a vast, wide hall with a ceiling distant far above did they realize that something was amiss. This tunnel, in the maps of the Archives they had been given, led to no such hall.

Silence becomes the night.

It was a quiet, subtle whisper of a message lodged across the radio comlinks of every Blade from Le to Po-Metru that officially announced to the Blades that their no. 1 enemy had just fallen into their trap, as out of the darkness, seemingly dozens of them stirred and moved, slowly approaching Vengeance's position.

Suspicion grew in Vengeance's gut. The Fury leader would often find himself trusting his gut feelings more than his sense of caution or strategy, and in this particular case, it saved his life. He seized his Lightstone Rifle and, tossing caution to the wind, shot one of his projectiles into the darkness before them.

He wasn't at all that shocked when the projectile's connection with the ground briefly illuminated, for a second, the sight of a dozen humanoid figures rapidly converging on them.

"Fury! Circle formation!" he screamed to his bodyguards, as they reorganized into a circle, shoulders and backs put together. "Onu-Metru base, do you copy? This is Vengeance, in Archives Sector 75-AF! We are under attack by Blades! Repeat, we are under attack by the Blades!"

OOC: PCs are encouraged to join the fight on either side.

IC: Skyra - Onu-Metru -

You know what they say about being at the wrong place at the wrong time? This was one of those days.

I found myself stumbling upon a fight between the Fury and the Blades, in the darkness of the Onu-Metru Archives of all places. I hid in the shadows, they two factions far too busy with trying to kill each other to notice a single, cloaked individual.

How did I end up in Onu-Metru of all places? To be honest it wasn't my first choice for a hiding place. But when you're on the run from the Circle, and when the Blades and the Fury are more likely to gut you then lend a hand, Onu-Metru is a decent place to go unnoticed. It's dark, quiet, and easy to get lost in all the tunnels. I absolutely hated it but I needed to lay low for a while. The Circle had been hot on my tail for weeks and in here it was the first time I felt like I'd lost them.

I hadn't expected to find a gang fight so deep down in the Archives however. The situation was proofing to be quite a pain. I watched the fight from behind one of the rahi exhibits. It was dark, and difficult to make out anyone besides their general shape, but I was able to discern between the Blades and the Fury. The Fury was far more organized and in formation, currently on the defensive. While the Blades were more like a pack of wolves coming in for the kill, savage and vicious in everything they did. I could tell them apart like apples and oranges.

Cautiously I pulled my sniper rifle from my back, my elemental power activating the weapon as it started to hum, the laser sight and scope activating. The pitch dark mattered very little when I could turn on the night vision for the rifle's scope, plus with the ongoing battle there were plenty of flashes of light from the uses of their powers. I picked a target, one of the attacking Blades, and waited for the right moment, then I fired, a bolt of energy firing out the barrel, it was as deadly as any bullet, and I didn't need to reload, all it took was a little bit of my elemental energy.

OOC: Open for interaction? Skyra is aiming at a Blade, it could be anyone's character, a friend of a character, or just some scrub. :3

IC: (Iceblade)

The air grew cold around the Fury soldiers. The each felt the relative comfort of the archives forsake them for a deadly chill. This chill was accompanied by the natural shiver one feels when they sense the presence of a predator. Those who knew of Iceblade- practically all of them -felt this shiver, clutching their weapons just a little bit tighter as two red eyes approached from the deep halls. As the incessant gang beat down on the Fury's formation from every side, the Blades second in command watched from a distance. He looked through the fighting gangs as if they weren't there. After all, it wasn't them he was worried about.

"VENGEANCE."

It wasn't clear if the yell which resonated through the archives and through the comlinks of each of his comrades was the sound of Iceblade calling him out or a battlecry, for as soon as he yelled it, his wrist sword swung out and he let loose on the rival gang. When he rushed in, the skirmish became a bloodbath. He immediately became locked in combat with a taller Fury agent holding a sword.

The chrome armor of the Blade soldier was illuminated in yellow as a lightstone rifle shot blasted him in the shoulder. But that was not the end of his battle with his opponent- with almost an unnatural rage he had stabbed through the Fury's thigh and dragged him down with him. Whoever had shot Iceblade had obviously moved on, for now it was just him and the Fury grappling across the floors of the archives. In the best of times, he would've made short work of the Vortixx. But, the rock imbedded in his shoulder was somewhat distracting, and his sword arm ended up pinned in the ground under his opponent's knee. The Fury raised his sword, preparing to slice him to pieces...

SHRIIING!

The tables turned in a matter of seconds. Iceblade's hidden thighblade had been drawn and placed in the rather sensitive position between the lungs of the Fury Vortixx. The Blades leader looked right into his eyes, watching the precious life drain from them, the blood dripping from his chest onto Ice's chrome armor. He pulled the knife from its perch in the Fury's chest, shoving it back into it's sheathe. He pushed the corpse off of him and stood, blood dyeing his armor red and a lightstone shard lighting up his face. If anyone saw him, they would see his teeth curling into a smile. He said again, quieter, more sensitive:

"Vengeance..."

OOC: Yoko Littner, mind if I gave your attack a target? ;)

IC Vilu

(Onu-Metru):

Skyra's energy bolt flew straight and true at the target, a Toa of Ice named Vilu from the Blades... only to strike the shield created by his Hau mask and dissipate. Vilu had spotted his attacker and hurled a stream of sharp icicles at the Toa of Air.

Poor weaklings, Vilu thought. They have no idea that the Blades have already won the fight.

OOC: Works for me! I should note however that the Hau only protects you from attacks you are aware of, if it's a surprise attack and you don't see it coming then it can't protect you. Just for future reference ^^

IC: Skyra - Onu-Metru -

I cursed, the Toa had spotted me before I had fired, he'd activated his Hau, making my attack useless. The Toa didn't stop there, he unleashed a stream of sharp icicles, it was difficult to see them in the dark, without hesitation I used the propulsion system on my armor to help me leap toward the rahi display to use as cover, a few icicles managed to hit my leg, one of them even penetrating a few inches of my skin, drawing blood. It wasn't serious enough to take me out of the fight but I'd have to do something about it later.

Grunting I slowly got back on my feet, activating my elemental powers and forming powerful gusts of air, stirring up the dust on the ground enough to block the Toa's vision of my location. This made it impossible to see me in the already very dark tunnels.

Using the scope on my rifle however, I'd be able to see the Toa just fine. Still using the rahi display as cover I peaked around the corner, aiming my sniper rifle, I found the Toa again and fired three shots in sequence at his torso. If he didn't see the energy bullets coming, then his mask wouldn't protect him.

OOC: I'll have to hold off on adding Callerin to the fight as well with the current Fury numbers. No need to make the odds too overwhelming here.

[IC - Truakhia] / [Onu-Metru]

"The Blades are swarming us. Just what we needed - an ambush in the dark."

Truakhia crouched in the shadows, completely silent as he grasped his crossbow and stared out across the field. It was poor practice for a good watcher to stand directly in the light; instead, they kept to the far edges, guarding their wards from the shadows. Unfortunately, what Truakhia had been watching for from his hiding place was the simpler creatures of the archives and the occasional madman hiding from the violence above; an abmush by the Blades was something far out of his league.

So far, no Blades had emerged from his region, seemingly preferring the forward areas. Still, as there was no sense in taking an additional risk, he made no attempt to drop undue attention to himself, and remained silent as he watched the first signs of conflict begin appearing on the borders of the conflict.

His eyes flicked rapidly back and forth between his potential targets in the grand melee, until he finally began taking aim. His enemy was a brutal looking steltian, who was beating down mercilessly upon one of Vengeance's vortixx guards. Not an easy target to take out, but he wasn't likely to waste his shot. Rather than opening himself to discovery by activating his targeting laser so early on, he instead watched how the steltian exposed himself as he struck at his enemy.

"If that vortixx had a piercing weapon, this fight would be over already. The brute's leaving two vital points everytime he swings, and numerous other weak points in the armor."

A few seconds, and the perfect moment. Drawing a metaphorical "X" on his target, he marked his intended spot with a powerful magnetic draw tied to the bolt he had loaded up in his crossbow. Then, he fired. The crossbow bolt shot out rapidly, flying rapidly towards its course and struck home, penetrating a gap in the steltian's natural armor and causing him to howl out in pan. It wasn't a vitals shot (at least, no immediately), but the sudden system shock left the brute open, allowing another Fury member to strike him down.

"Another down. But there's more where he came from."

OOC: Feel free for any incoming Blades members to come sneaking up from the tunnels nearer him, or what have you. Open for interaction.

IC: Yyevi [Onu-Metru]

The disk snapped into place with a click, the mechanism of the launcher slowly prepping the projectile for fire. It was strange how so many seemed to underestimate the power that Kanoka possessed, especially with the myriad of tales of their danger. Maybe it was the fact that it was mainly a Matoran weapon, or maybe too many people simply did not truly understand what a disk could actually do. As a specialist in the field of weaponry, Yyevi definitely did not underestimate them. He had seen first hand at the horror they could inflict on people, and he was definitely not eager to be the target of anyone wielding them.

He checked the digits on the Kanoka: 216. It was surprising that he could get ahold of such a disk - Ga was completely under the influence of the Circle. To obtain a Kanoka from there, and a rather powerful one at that, would have been insanely difficult. But he wasn't one to ask how someone could obtain such a disk. He only cared that the reconstitution disk would be a highly dangerous weapon.

Hidden within an empty display, Yyevi took aim at Iceblade with the disk, and fired.

OOC: Ah, I see I misworded my post. I intended Vilu to spot the danger before using his Hau, but that wasn't clear in the post.

IC Vilu

(Onu-Metru):

The Toa of Air had dodged the icicles, although barely. Still, it was enough to have serious consequences to Vilu - a strong wind soon created a dust cloud around him, greatly hindering his vision. He wouldn't be able to use his Hau against attacks he couldn't see.

He started running in a random direction, trying to find a way out of the dust. He suddenly grunted in pain as an energy blast hit him in the right arm, doing considerable damage. Only his running had prevented the rest of the three blasts from hitting him and the first one from hitting his torso.

In pain, Vilu considered his options. He didn't specifically need his right arm to fight, for he was ambidextrous. However, using a heavy battle axe was difficult without the support of another arm.

Vilu turned around and created a shell of ice around himself, protecting him even as the dust cloud began to dissipate.

OOC: Feel free for any incoming Blades members to come sneaking up from the tunnels nearer him, or what have you. Open for interaction.

OOC: Since you asked...

IC (Hatann): Hatann saw of all this, not from any of the surrounding tunnels, but from above. Perched between the pipes that stretched across the ceiling of the hall, he was there to cover the Blades in case any of the Fury tried to get airbourne and fly away. So far, none had. The ambush was going as expected, and though the Fury were fighting hard, the Blades had them surrounded and outnumbered. It had been a well-set trap.

For all that, though, there were losses. As Hatann watched, for example, a toa with a crossbow removed a Steltian who had been making good headway into the circle surrounding Vengeance. Well, they weren't the only one who could shoot. Quietly shifting his position, he pointed his zamor launcher down at the grey toa, carefully took aim and fired off two shots in quick succession. The first was a darkness sphere, intended to wipe the visibility of nearly everyone in the closely packed circle of Fury from little to zero, sewing confusion, while the second was one of his more powerful explosive spheres. Call it mercy, but at least they wouldn't see it coming.

[IC - Truakhia] / [Onu-Metru]

Whilst reloading his crossbow and scanning the area, Truakhia spotted the incoming Zamor sphere and immediately rolled to the side and behind an outcropping in the wall, clutching his weapon close as he did so. Coming back up to a crouching position after the explosive sphere struck, he looked to the direction where his attacker was hiding.

"Should have stayed in Ta-Metru. At least I can see there."

Not having a very clear target, he decided attempting to fire at the moment would be a waste. Instead, he extend his hand and cast out a wave of magnetic elemental energy at the wall; the intention was to cause the targeted wall area and that around or near it to be rapidly pulled together by magnetic forces, hopefully stunning or even knocking out the attacker by slamming their head (and the rest of their body) against the very cover they were using for protection.

His position now compromised, he quickly began moving to a new position to hide behind, before any Blades thought to investigate the explosion whilst searching for a quick kill on the side finishing off a wounded rival.

OOC: Just to clarify (you mention a "small group" being targeted, but also the sphers being aimed at Truakhia), he is presently alone, on the outskirts of the main group.

OOC: Well, time for the Nortwinds to... do something completely different.

IC: Baranx (Dùn)

The grizzled old Gravity elemental was standing in one of the watchtowers lining the palisades of the Northwind fortress looking out over the horizon of Po-Metru. He knew that Nuadh was somewhere else in the area tending to the everyday matters of his... what were they, exactly? A gang, an army, a collection of the disgruntled and wronged?

Bah. The Northwinds could be anything for all Baranx cared, as long as they didn't forget the one purpose that gave Baranx reason to stay; their war against the Circle. Nuadh was an excellent strategist, and with Baranx himself pitching in to keep their warriors both alive and in shape, the Northwinds hadn't seen a whole lot of better days.

The only problem with Nuadh was that he exercised too much caution in his war with the Circle. This defensive war would not bring end to the Circle as Baranx wished to see. He had already pleaded with Nuadh before to adopt a more aggressive stance, but both times had he been turned down.

The Turaga of Gravity snorted as he considered his standing: Either he would have to convince Nuadh to increase his efforts against the Circle, or he would have to give him a reason to do so

Or... alternatively, he would have to take charge himself.

A small pebble floated in his hand, under effect of what little control over Gravity he still held. With that miniscule control he crushed the pebble into dust in his hand, and even that relatively small feat was draining, but the message was clear; Baranx was prepared to do whatever it took to get his revenge, he was going to look Vakama in the eye as he smashed his face in, to see the old flame fade from his eyes like one blew out a candle.

It was a strengthening thought.

OOC: Baranx is now open if any Northwinds are interested.

IC: Skyra - Onu-Metru -

I smirked with satisfaction that at least one of my attacks had been a hit, the Toa of Ice was now on the defensive, he had broke into a run to avoid most of my shots, and then surrounded himself with a dome of ice. I assumed that he'd made it fairly thick, probably thick enough to stop my rifle from penetrating it. I didn't even attempt to shoot at it, instead I ducked back behind the rahi display and knelt down to deal with my still bleeding leg. Slowly I began to pull out the icicle that was still lodged into the shin of my right leg. It was painful, but it had to be done.

Once I had it removed my leg started to bleed a lot more steadily. I ripped a piece of my cloak off and applied pressure to the wound, I then wrapped it around my leg as best I could and hoped that would be enough to stop the bleeding. I doubted the Toa of Ice was going to leave me alone for long.

IC: Naona [Po-Metru]

Po-Metru was silent, devoid of any sound but that of grazing Rahi. It had not always been like this; the ongoing conflicts had left the district deserted, with many residents fleeing for the safer regions of the city. Those who remained were congregated mostly in two areas - the fortress of Dùn and the area that Metru Nui had managed to retake from the Northwinds. They were stubborn ones, refusing to leave their homes to the mercies of either the Northwinds of the Circle. It was fortunate, however, that their numbers were small. Naona did not wish to risk lives unnecessarily in the fight against the gangs.

It was a rarity not to wake to constant warfare. Both sides of the conflict had simply ... stopped fighting, taking a chance to rest and recover before resuming their battle. It was rather appreciated; long had she worked without rest, and to finally be able to relax even slightly was a godsend. Naona may have been a workaholic, but the Circle enforcer was not immune to fatigue. Had she gone on any longer without stopping, she would have ended up crucifying someone.

Ducking her head out of the makeshift garrison that she was currently based in, Naona breathed deeply, letting the air of the district flow into her. It felt nice to do something that did not involve stopping the Northwinds for once. But she would still have to keep an eye out. One never knew when they could strike.

OOC: Open for interaction.

IC: (Iceblade - Archives)

The Toa of ice noticed the disk at the last second, and sidestepped as hard as he could, letting it fly past him as intended. He didn't intend, however, for it to hit the Blades' soldier standing behind him. The loss was mournable, but no one lived forever and everything was-

Hissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss.......................

Iceblade jerked his head around, eye's widening as he gazed upon the reconstituted Blade. He had grown a few feet, was hunched over, but the most interesting bit of information about this transformation was the claws. Larger than his own sword, each one was. Iceblade took a second to turn around and look at the shooter, mouthing the word "why" before turning back to the problem, who was ripping apart the nearest Toa randomly. He had known this man. His name had been Yuiru. Now, he was nameless, insentient.

The second in command of the Blades had one strategy, and one strategy only. There was no reasoning with the beast. Aim for the head.

Charging in wildly, he stabbed at the thing's leg, hoping to cripple it. Yuiru's claws deflected Ice's sword like it was nothing. He stepped back, assessing the beast's new body before going back in. He repeated slashed, trying to hack away at it's hide. It was no use, however- its new skin seemed to be impenetrable. With a single blow, the monster formerly known as Yuiru knocked Ice onto his back a few feet away. Gritting his teeth, he stood back up, and noticed a certain Skyra Daring with a rifle from a vantage point.

He waved his arms, getting her attention. She might have been busy with something, but surely she could spare a bullet for a monster with no allegiance. He motioned to the beast, then tapped his mask, as if saying "headshot."

IC: Horic- Onu-Metru Archives Sector 75-AF
It had happened so fast. An ambush that quickly dissolved into a firefight.

Horic unlimbered his Rhotuka Axe and knocked aside a charging Steltian. His Kanohi Arthron allowed him to sense the different combatants, even in the dark, so he had an advantage there.

He had sensed the Zamor before it hit, but that didn't change the fact that when part of he wall collapsed, it hurt.

Horic hauled himself up, cursing his aching back. He looked in the direction of where he sensed the Zamor Sphere had come from.

There. A Skakdi hidden in the shadows. Horic spotted Truakhia taking cover. Horic knew how much of a marksman Truakhia was, and decided to buy him some time.

The Toa of Iron immediately ran towards the Skakdi[Hatann] from his side, attempting to flank him.

Suddenly, Trukhia's magnetic power pulled Horic along. He, in turn, used his Iron Powers to firmly root himself to the ground. Taking aim with the handheld Rhotuka launcher, Horic launched a spinner that would rob the Skakdi of his control over his limbs.

OOC: @Geardirector: "Baranx"? Funny how things turned out for him. :P

IC Vilu

(Onu-Metru):

Having been spared from outside attacks for a while, Vilu took down his own ice shield. His right arm was still hurting, but it was a fundamental property of beings of ice to be able to concentrate on certain matters. He ignored the pain and focused his strength on the battle. After all, he knew his arm had not been lost and that it could be healed later. Now was the time to take care of the conflict.

Once again spotting the persistent Toa of Air who had attacked him, Vilu concentrated his powers on her, dropping the temperature to a freezing level around the being, hoping to slow her down.

Vilu, however, found his attempt to freeze the mysterious Toa of Ice suddenly interrupted by a lightstone projectile that flew just barely past his face. Just as he turned, he saw another lightstone flying straight at him, just as the Fury leader unholstered his rifle and reached for his spear, falling into a dash towards his newfound opponent soon after, aiming his weapon at the Ko-Toa's left shoulder.

IC: Kapa [Onu-Metru archives Sector 75-AF]

Kapa raced down a hall. He could here sounds of battle just coming around the corner. He activated his Ruru and peered past al the minerals and sediment now visible. Yes, there was an obvious battle. Kapa recognized a fellow Blade member that he knew by the name of Vilu. He was attempting to freeze a toa and being interupted so rudely by a barrage of lightstone projectiles fired by Vengeance, leader of Fury. And then...what the rahi can plant life do right now? Kapa thought urgently as Vengeance raced toward Vilu. Kapa glanced down at the tools in his hand. He glanced up again. Vangeance had almost reached Vilu. Kapa had no time to think, only to act. Thinking wasn't one of his strengths, anyway. He hurled one of his katana at Vengeance, hoping he could distract him to divert courses.

(Onu-Metru):

Vilu used his Hau to block to incoming lightstone. He was about to retaliate when he saw Kapa charging Vengeance. He took a few steps back, intending to give Kapa an opening.

NPC IC: (Vengeance, Onu-Metru Archives Sector 75-AF)

Given that this was a katana that was flying at him, even within the relative darkness, illuminated only by the constant flickers of various elemental powers, its approach could not only be seen but also heard given the noise such a large object makes when it flies through the air. So dodging the sharp object approaching him came naturally to Vengeance.

The initial goal of Kapa's maneuver, distracting Vengeance, succeeded, in a way. Effectively, Kapa gave Vilu a second's time to draw breath and prepare, because, largely due to the confusion in his surroundings, Vengeance opted against going after whoever attacked him and continuing onwards to his initial target. Two second-long steps later, Vengeance found himself facing Vilu down, his spear's tip tracing a careful shape in the ground as he circled him before attempting an attack.

"Well, well. Let's see what you're made of, little Blade," Vengeance muttered under his breath and sprung, spear aimed straight forward.

IC: Calerix (Onu-Metru)

The Ce-Toa had been nearby when the sounds of battle began, and after making her way there she narrowed her eyes at the scene.

There. Two Blades, on her leader, Vengeance. This would not stand, no.

Calerix raised her arm, or at least that's what everyone saw, and made a fist before pulling back. Kapa would feel a force pulling him away from the current fight and facing him towards a slight Ce-Toa, who drew a dagger and lifted the other with her mind, then sending it towards the Blade, still holding it with her mind.

IC: (Aglesis)

Guarding was one of Aglesis' preferred jobs. It was more often quiet, and it was important to the cause. When Vengence had gathered men to head into the archive, Aglesis had volunteered and was picked. The ambush wasn't much of a surprise, his leader was walking target, after all. He'd been through worse than a bunch of cursed thugs. His eyes glared with hate as he held his axe and charged the blades.

Emerging from the edge of the group, the Karzahnian sighted his first opponent. It was a Skakdi, a brutish little thug. He came at him with a machete, of all weapons. But Aglesis had his axe, protosteel and razor sharp. Dodging the blow, the tool slashed his arm, leaving a light cut. He wasn't phased. Raising his longaxe, he brought it down upon his opponent, with a blow to the neck. The Skakdi fell, and Aglesis turned to rejoin the battle.

He noticed a Toa of Ice, large and menacing, approching a woman to his left. She was on the right side, so he'd help. Concentrating on Iceblade's side, he activated his Mask of Repulsion, to sent the Blade into the walls of the tunnel at high speed.

IC: Skyra - Onu-Metru -

With my leg bandaged as adequately as it could be given the circumstances, I decided to return to the fight, a.k.a sniping from my hiding spot, behind a archived rahi. As I peaked around to try to get a glimpse of the battle once more, I noticed two things. For one thing there was some kind of monster attacking indiscriminately, and two there was a blade waving me down, obviously he wanted me to shoot the beast.

Naturally I wanted to just shoot the Blade, but that would get the beast's attention, I didn't want that. So I aimed at the beast as the Blade suggested, my laser sight lighting up the monster's head. I fired.

After than I aimed my rifle at the Blade who had been waving at me, I didn't want him thinking we were friends or anything so I aimed my rifle toward his head as well...

For some reason I hesitated. Sure I hated the Blades more than anything, but could I really just kill someone who had asked for my help like that? Sighing, I aimed for his leg instead and fired, I'd take him out of the fight at the very least.

At the same time a Fury member came upon the Blade and attacked with his mask power. This was good, maybe he'd kill the Blade for me.

IC: (Iceblade - Archives)

Skyra's bullet entered the beast's head and left it with relative ease. The monster dropped dead in the midst of the skirmish. Iceblade turned around and began putting his hands up in a salute; a momentary thank you, when he realized she was now aiming for him. Grimacing, he prepared to dodge...

...just as a mask of repulsion sent him flying out of the way. Mid-air, he retracted his blade as to not land on it, and braced for impact against the wall...and hitting it with enough force to shove the lightstone shard further into it's wound.

Iceblade's sword slid back out of his gauntlet and he narrowed his eyes at Aglesis, charging the Fury guard with a rage of his own.

IC: Yyevi [Onu-Metru Archives]

Tch. That was a waste of a disk. It may not have been the strongest weapon in his arsenal, but it had been a rare and highly useful one. Was a shame that he had missed his target. Taking down Iceblade would have done wonders for his reputation. Alas, he would simply have to deal with having taken out another of the Blades members.

He loaded another disk into his launcher. It was one of Onu-Metru make this time. Good. From what Yyevi could remember of disks from the earth district, they were capable of returning to the user if they missed. 666: it was another high-powered one, and a disk capable of shrinkage at that. He'd never used shrinking powers before. First time for everything.

Yyevi fired at Iceblade once more. The Toa was too juicy a target to resist.

IC: Kapa [Onu-Metru archives Sector 75-AF]

Kapa felt a strange sensation wash over him and he felt himself being mentally pulled away from the fight. He turned, or rather turned against his will, to see an unfamiliar Ce-toa. Also in his line of sight was a dagger hovering about 1.5 bio above the ground, controlled by the mind of the Ce-toa. Well, this sure has been an interesting day...,though Kapa, and if something doesn't happen it'll be coming to an end very soon.

Iceblade saw the disk coming, and mid-stride created a thick wall of ice, blocking the disk fairly easily. The disk-shooter was easily one of the most formidable opponents on the field, but he would have to be dealt with later, as there was a more immediate problem to deal with in the form of Aglesis. Sword extended, he slashed directly for the Fury's neck.

IC: Skyra - Onu-Metru -

It was around this point that I realised my involvement in the battle had gone far enough, no one was paying attention to me for the moment, as they were all too busy fighting for their lives. With my leg already in pretty bad shape, I was less eager to remain involved, I limped my way back behind a rahi archive and sat down, pulling my hood over my head. I was trying to be as small and unnoticeable as possible, my plan was to wait out the fight, let them kill each other so I'd have less targets to deal with. Of course, if one side managed to win out against the other I'd probably be in trouble.

I put pressure on my wounded shin, the piece of my cloak wrapped around the wound was helping...but the blood was beginning to soak it. I needed to stop the bleeding, if I lost too much blood I wouldn't be able to defend myself.

IC: Yyevi [Onu-Metru Archives]

Upon failing to hit its target, the shrinkage disk swung back, travelling back towards Yyevi. He liked the disks Onu-Metru constructed. They prevented him from wasting too many of them if he missed, which occurred somewhat commonly. During training he had used quite a few of them, especially when he had been less skilled in aiming the launcher.

Slotting the disk in again, the Steltian fired off the projectile once more, before quickly sticking in another disk of reconstitution, albeit one from Ta-Metru. If his opponent pulled off the same thing again, the strength of the disk would break through the ice.

IC: Xaron

If Skyra listened closely to her surroundings, she would have heard footsteps. If she was looking around, she might have seen a flicker of light in the corner of her eye. But, she was busy stopping the bleeding on her leg. The perfect time to strike, of course, had Xaron been searching for someone to kill. However, he was not trying to kill someone. He was just trying to get through Onu-Metru, and hoped that no one would find him out. But, as luck would have it, this would not be the case.

He tripped and fell over a rock, barely catching his dagger, and landed hands-down directly in front of Skyra.

Oh, Karz.

OOC: Sorry for the wait, been busy travelling.

IC Vilu

(Onu-Metru):

Some beings might have felt honored about being challenged by the leader of the Fury gang himself, but not Vilu. His motives were not like those of the rest of the fighters. He had joined the Blades because they had got the most sense in their operations, that was what Vilu thought. He was not fanatic, but a logical thinker who had chosen a side. And he was not going to abandon it.

Vengeance was a real challenge, but Vilu was confident he could at least stall him. He blocked the spear with his Hau and then made a backroll, ending up in a crouched position from where he unleashed a blast of ice shaped like a dagger towards his opponent.

IC:

The arrival of the Northwind's leader was surprisingly quiet, considering his size. The steel gray Skakdi ascended the stairs to Dun's northwestern watchtower easily, taking the steps in easy stride. Upon reaching the top he stretched, a series of pops issuing as he arched his back. Nuadh was a physical specimen in his prime, but he had of late spent most of his time tending to the affairs of his faction, a pursuit that left little time for the normally active Skakdi to do much else. Normally he would have at least had a minor skirmish in which to stretch his muscles, but the Circle had been very quiet of late.

Crossing the room to the window, he crossed his arms and looked out over Po-Metru, not at first acknowledging the Tuaraga of Gravity next to him. The customary grin of his race was absent, replaced with a pensive frown. One not familiar with him might have found it unusual, but for anyone familiar with him, it was all but his most common expression.

"You've been spending a lot of time up here, old one." The Skakdi of Magnetism's voice rumbled deep in his chest, depite it's mellow tone. After a moment, he looked down at Baranx, craning his neck slightly to be able to see him well.

"I can guess why. You still feel that we should go on the offensive."

There was a momentary lull in conversation, as the Sakdi uncrosed his arms, pointing towards a dark spot on the horizon. "The Circle set up camp there. A cluster of villagers remain near them, unwilling to leave their homes to the mercy of either side. Not surprising, I suppose."

His finger moved downwards, pointing to the fort below. "Our own people, fighters and noncombatants both, dwell within our walls, and some outside them. They count on us to keep them safe, to do what we started this war to do. Immigrants, many of them. But we've attracted more citizens to our cause than I'd ever have thought when this war began."

"I've often thought about why. It took me a long time to find an answer that made sense. We attract all kinds to our banner because, in this war of gangs and tyrants, we're the closest to good it gets. Ironic, isn't it? We were once a gang ourselves, a gang of Skakdi, and Vortixx, and all other kinds. We started out protecting our own interests. But somewhere along the way, we became the closest thing the downtrodden had to a champion."

"The Circle doesn't care, the Circle hasn't cared in a long time. They want to crush these rebellions beneath their heel and return to how things were before the Blades arrived. They want the immigrants back under control, and their power returned. The Fury seek vengeance, on the Blades mostly, but who can ever tell with them. And the Blades... The Blades want to rule, even if they have to preside over a city of rubble."

"Karzahni, I sound like some kind of darn politician." Nuah gave a short, rough laugh at that, hand returning to the hilt of his blade out of habit. It wasn't a threat; when he gave a threat, the recipient knew. No, it was habitual, as if it were where his hand was most comfortable.

"A gang of rogues, criminals, immigrants, and the downtrodden. That's what we became, and now we're a rebel army. We have to win this war, that I know."

"But we can't win by losing sight of what's important. Our people down there depend on us, and if we march on the offensive, we will only be able to leave behind a skeleton crew of defenders. The Circle is better armed than that; they'll sweep in and crush the Dun behind us, and Mata Nui preserve those who sided with us if that happens."

Another, longer pause, and he looked again to the dark spot on the horizon. "Nor should we be so eager to crush them. Not all who fight for the Circle do so with satisfaction, nor are the citizens who look to them for help our enemy."

"If we discriminate as they have, we have become what we have fought against. We need to win, and that means that one day we'll have to attack. But not yet. Not until we know just what we intend, and how we intend to do it."

Nuadh shook his head again, turning away from the window. "I've got work to do. No doubt someone somewhere has a complaint for me to settle, or a request to be granted, or some such Maha dung. I'd advise against staying up here too long, Baranx, folk might start to take you for a hermit."

OOC: Ah, there we are, at last. Nuadh is open to be interacted with for any PC who wishes to do such. And yes, Director, that includes Baranx. :P

OOC: "He blocked the spear with his Hau"

Well that is a certainly specific, elaborate description of how exactly Vilu deflected a stab indeed. :P

NPC IC: (Vengeance, Onu-Metru Archives)

Unfortunately for Vilu, ice was hardly an element Vengeance had no ways to deal with. In this particular case, the way to deal with said spike of ice was excessively simple: fire. It took only a small flame, lit within his hand, not even thrown, just burning upon his palm. He raised his hand and, breaking into another sprint towards Vilu, drew a wide arc around him, melting the incoming ice in midair, spear ready to stab once again.

Iceblade - Archives)

The manner of Aglesis's block landed him face to face with the Blade, mask mere inches from Ice's. In Iceblade's chromed features he saw himself reflected. "I remember you," he said, face stoic, "you used to be a Blade. But you couldn't handle it, could you? Don't feel bad...neither could your pathetic leader." To emphasize these words, he pushed hard against Aglesis's axe, forming a considerable amount of pressure. As he did so, he hooked his foot around his opponent's. Should he use his mask to repel Iceblade, he would trip himself up and likely sprain his ankle.

IC: Kapa (Archives)

Calerix had been distracted by Vilu's attack on Vengeance, and Kapa had managed to squirm away from her mental grip. He acrobatically somer-saulted* to where his other Katana lay on the floor. He picked it up and threw is as hard as he could at Calerix. The surprise attack knocked her off balance, which bought Kapa a little time. It will have to be enough. Kapa decided. It was, for the time being, two against one.

*OOC: That is how you spell it, right?

OOC: This is enough people to make things interesting.

[IC - Callerin] - [Onu-Metru]

What Vengeance would no doubt have less expected to suddenly be assaulted by someone of his own element. However, rather than a harmless bolt of flame, it was a sudden flare right before his eyes that was targeted to blind the Fury leader which Callerin created as she finally entered the fray.

Unfortunately, it would also have the same effect on any Blades agents caught in melee with him at the time, though they at least had the advantage of not being in point blank range.

Having made an attack against the Fury leader himself so early, Callerin was right in expecting some sort of return fire to be cast at her. Fortunately for her, those few attacks aimed in her direction were immediately struck by the shimmering field of energy that her glowing mask projected around her; behind her, it was simply the rest of the swarm of Blades.

The runes on the cloak began to emit a golden glow as her arms moved, channeling her elemental energy to call the power of flames to her side. Immediately, she began casting out bolts of dazzling white fire, aimed at the various Fury agents (Calerix, Aglesis, plenty of others) on the front lines of the battlefield, intended to open them up for attack by the other Blades. Admittedly, some friendly fire might have to happen... but not too much.

IC: (Aglesis)

Aglesis recognized Iceblade as well. One of the older members, like him. One who had remained in the thuggish band of The Blades. Staring directly into his enemy's eyes, he held firm. The wood of his axe blade had a notch by now, which was getting larger and larger. He was preparing to repel Iceblade's sword when the bolt of heat impacted his left leg. The bolt didn't hit him directly, instead, it glanced over his leg, scalding his skin.

Wincing in pain, Aglesis' grip weakened.
