LEGO Movie Sequel Release Date Released

Recommended Posts

While I had read some rumors, I didn't even know that the sequel for The LEGO Movie was officially greenlit yet, but now it has a release date: May 26, 2017. Yep, over three years away and they already know exactly when it'll be in theaters - so mark your calendars! As SuperHeroHype reports, the only other information we have is that Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan will be writing the screenplay. I'm glad the movie is still three years away, because it suggests they're going to take their time and do it right. Let's start the countdown and cross our fingers for another hit!

Already? Squealitis will hit.

Do you mean "Sequelitis"? I don't think a single sequel counts as "sequelitis". I don't think three years is an unrealistic timespan for making a sequel. And every interview I've seen with people involved with the movie suggest that there's a desire to get it right on the part of everyone involved. I don't see why that would change dramatically for the next movie.

3 years apart didn't hurt the original Star Wars trilogy.

I'm a little worried that so much of it has been set in stone already. The people writing it aren't the same as the first movie, and I don't believe it's been decided yet whether the directors plan on returning (I really hope they do though, because they're perfect).

Also not sure if I'd rather this be an actual sequel or another standalone film.

Gee, a Lego movie? I dunno, it'll probably be some big toy comcerial. I hope they get good actors or something, but I'm really not that interested in it at this point. And I'll continue to be aloof about the whole deal and keep saying that it'll probably be a bad idea and a big flop. But in the months leading up to the release, I'll get uber excited after seeing the trailers and everything and claim that it's the greatest movie ever.

Learn to grammar.

Grammar and spelling are different things, not sure if it was part of the joke :P

I think the Hageman brothers, Lord & Miller, and Dan Lin are all busy working on the Ninjago movie right now. But the fact that they jumped on board that one so quickly makes me confident that they might do the same with the new one (remember, Lord & Miller weren't involved with The LEGO Movie when it was first pitched, either).

The fact that they've allowed themselves three years development time on this one makes me confident that they're not just trying to rush a low-effort cash-grab into theaters. Not to mention that this was a real labor of love for Dan Lin, one of the producers, and he has implied in interviews that he wants to be involved in a sequel. So as soon as he gets involved in the sequel, I will have total confidence in the level of care that will be put into the movie, even if that won't be a guarantee of quality by itself.
