Dealing With Demons

Last piece for this art dump, and another BZPRPG work. (I promise, someday I'll actually draw canon characters.) Here we have a fun little character known as Zauk, a Toa of Lightning who's mental state is more than a bit questionable after last arc. Or last last arc, whatever it was. Here he's having fun dealing with some dark, nebulous figure that may or may not be an incarnation of his darker side. Was enjoyable to make, especially the Kanohi.

Aaah, that's great!

 

So, the colouring is well done, I am particularly fond of the contrast between the red/orange-ish backdrop and the blueish-green of the character; it really makes him stand out as well as provide a certain 'doomy' atmosphere. I also like the amount of space above the character, as it indicates a certain loss of control, or like the weight of it all is far too much to handle... I guess you know what I mean. ^^"

 

The Toa's drawn well, I like the armour design, the only thing is that the pose could be a bit more tense. Maybe the shoulders could be raised more; the way he is now he appears less in a struggle, rather some form of resignation. Which totally works with the basic motive of inner demons, because it's not always possible to confront them. Yet, if you were going for more active fighting, I'd suggest tensing up the neck/shoulder area a bit.

 

As for the shadowy figure, I had some trouble identifying that as a person at first, but I attriubte that to my (rather dark) screen's settings, so it's fine. The size relation between the character and the figure is spot-on. Maybe the shadow could have a slightly more dynamic pose, but that's just nit-picking of mine again.

 

Overall, it's an impressive, atmospherical work of art; I found everything the title promised, and even a bit more. I really really love what you did with the colour palette and overall composition.
