tamuru Posted March 10, 2014 Share Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) I've been working on a bunch of magic cards based on various bionicle characters, I've got enough that I feel like posting, so here they are. for the bohrok, I was inspired by the 'splicers' from Scars of mirrodin block. The bohrok queens, fairly simple, playing off their telepathy, each has half a 'lord' ability, so having them both on the battlefield is a big boost, and they're typed as bohrok, so they'd benefit from the hive abilities. I intend to make the kal, and va as well. Bonus Token and a way to make more tokens than just the hives. I made a bunch of kanoka, disks, which act as spells, of a sort. they can be played for zero. if you want to, it can sit there, add to metalcraft, do whatever else you want with a low cost artifact. or you can "fire" them. each has an X ability, representing the scaling powers of the kanoka. Azani Posted March 10, 2014 Share Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) Somehow, you were able to give each of these cards a strongly Bionicle vibe, while retaining many of the specifics of the Magic card design style. I used to be a fan of Magic: the Gathering, many yearsago, and these cards are an awesome blast of nostalgia for me. It's good to know that you plan to make more. I know that it's turning out to be really parasitic, but I figure a little bit is okay in a design, and what are the bohrok if anything but parasitic. The biggest stretch, but I figure some form of evasion would help.I wound up making each of the bohrok colors have one with a free ability, and one with a CC ability, there's a nice symmetry to it. this one can spiral out of control, and combined with the kohrok hive, I think it could make for a delightfully cruel control deck. every tribe needs a mana dorknot as useful on its own or with its corrosponding hive. could be better, but still. combat trick.another combat trick, this one works very well with it's hive, giving you 8 damage off of one creature.yet again, combat trick. cheap, simple. Azani Posted March 10, 2014 Share Posted March 10, 2014 The Bohrok Va cards are also nice; however, do you plan to do cards for the Toa Mata or Toa Nuva also? Since you've made cards representing all of the Bohrok Va, in addition to cards for each type of Bohrok and the queens of the swarms, it would balance out the group to have some good guys. tamuru Posted March 10, 2014 Author Share Posted March 10, 2014 Eventually, yeah. I've pretty much just been makin them as they come to me. The toa are a challenge of their own though, keeping each team mechanically distinct is the main challenge. I can't just make every red toa have the firebreathing ability, much as that would make things simpler. I also plan to do the masks and tools, which leaves me with the question, what's a Toa without any Mask or Tool? not much. fear not, the Mata are certainly on my list. rather high up too. Canis Lycaon Posted March 10, 2014 Share Posted March 10, 2014 Kohrak Hive should be Bohrak creatures you control - as is, the hives can activate it's ability. Tahnok Va should have the same fix. Only creatures are affected by summoning sickness, so giving haste to a noncreature artifact is redundant. The Kanoka should have at least some ability if you don't sack them. (Maybe "{T}, Sacrifice this: Deal 1 damage to target creature or player"?) Quote I used to have a banner here. But that RPG is dead. What now? I do agree with the point about the kanoka, but I have one major problem, and that's space. Reshaping already has 8 lines of text, any more and it just gets silly.
