Good review. The Mixels definitely have a lot of zany charm. Volectro's probably my favorite of the three on account of his impressive articulation. It seems like you can put him in a lot of expressive poses. The spiky hair and wiggly fingers make him look slightly unhinged, which suits him.

Of course, if you want the Mixels solely for their new joint elements, you might be better off buying a Legend Beast from the Legends of Chima theme. The Lion and Wolf Legend Beasts each come with 18 ball and socket pieces for $10 — the price of two Mixels. The only way to get this many ball and socket pieces from a $10 Mixels purchase would be to buy Hoogi from Series 3 (the only Mixel with ten ball and socket pieces) and either Vulk from Series 1, Tentro from Series 2, Glomp from Series 3, or Footi from Series 3.

The Mixels still boast plenty of amazing assets, though, like colorful detail elements, pointed teeth, and four distinct styles of cartoon eyes. So they are still perfectly legitimate parts packs with a very equitable price-per-piece. And as models they have loads of personality. They definitely set a new standard for a unique building experience at a price point perfect for impulse purchases. It's hard to imagine these sets not becoming a hit.

Ok this bugged me the second I saw it and I just went through the instructions to check and it seems the error is on your part: you have Zaptor's feet assembled differently, with his right being correct. It was bugging me because otherwise he's mostly symmetrical and I didn't see why they would make his feet different for no reason.

The Max's feet also prevent it from being symmetrical, but that could easily be the instructions taking the easy way and telling you to build them the same way so they can just say "x2" and call it a day.

Overall, I'm warming up a little to these guys. The small ones have personality to them, though sometimes they look a little odd. The Max is excellent, though. My only complaint is its head looks both big and flat, which is annoying me, but otherwise it's really good, and I definitely approve of a thoughtful combiner. It's a definite improvement over the cobbled-together weirdness they usually have.

Thanks for the review, it's a great one. I don't like the Electroids as much as the Cragsters, but they're all actually pretty neat and I think their color scheme as a group is pretty good. My favorite of the three is Zaptor (who I've already bought) and I love his cartoony demeanor and parts. Volectro I'm really not a fan of (I think the two teeth look dumb, and maybe the new teeth piece would look better?) even though he does seem like the best one for poseabilty. Teslo looks pretty decent all around, and looking over his pictures in this one, I'm actually kind of interested in getting him more now. (I kind of doubt I'll get to, though, since Mixels seem to sell pretty dang fast. Besides which, I already have the three I wanted from series one and it might be more prudent to wait for series two to buy more... )
