I will enter if you tell me once and for all that the drone engineer can never be a thing.

I just can't give up hope until then. :c

*Sigh*

Oh, well, most of what I had thought up for him was personality and biography that is easily transferable to a fighter pilot. But you guys are going to miss out on a lot of cheesy haiku about drones.

It could be a Drone-Controller fighter, that launches drones at the enemy instead of having its own weapons

Swarm fighter? It'd make sense for an Engi to have something like that. A fighter that serves as a central nexus for a bunch of smaller drones attached to it, each specializing in something. Via neural linking, they all react as one organism and can all cooperate to get a task done.

That sounds good, I guess I'll make him an Engi, then. So, the Engi himself would be linked to the fighter?

Also, do fighters have anything in the way of shields?

It is an interesting prospect. I could see about making a fighter pilot but it'll be tricky. I suppose I could adapt some ideas from my older idea for a secondary character.

Okay, I've got a few ideas. I can try putting them into a profile and see how they come out.

Name: Harry Colster

Gender: Male

Age: 30

Species: Human

Profession: Fighter pilot/part time medic and mechanic*

Skills: Flying, basic first aid, basic mechanics.

Items: Nothing in particular outside a bag containing a handful of valuables.

Appearance: Tall, rugged, scruffy, disheveled. Typically disregards uniform, preferring to wear more casual attire, typically a leather jacket and jeans.

Personality: Rough, aggressive, at times arrogant, but not without a more caring side (even if he is reluctant to show it). Somewhat jaded from his experiences, though he is capable of humor.

Biography: Harry has been through thick and thin in the war. Since training as a pilot he has been involved on numerous battles including but not limited to his involvement on Earth and the final clean-up efforts at Gaia. He has had his moments of heroism and his moments of tragedy, and some moments he would rather forget.

* Basic first aid, nothing fancy but helpful in buying time if for some reason Nicole can't get to the emergency right away. Also being a pilot it stands to reason he'd know a thing or two about how engines work. That, and it gives him a few things to do when his piloting skills aren't needed.

Oh, and if possible I'm going to need some information on how fighter ships work in this universe work. The only immediate reference I can think of is the ships from Star Wars and knowing how scientifically accurate that series is I'm not sure it's the best thing to go on. The design I'd imagine would have to require them to be

I am Ultron Six, a cybernetic intelligence created by Doctor Henry Pym. My imperative is to bring peace and order to this world. I am about to fulfil that imperative; for the extinction of humanity…begins now.

the_ultron_imperative.jpg

Soon the earth will no longer be habitable for any biological organism: Man, woman, child, plant, animal, fungus or bacterium. All life will cease to exist. This is not a threat, there is nothing you can do to stop it. The process has already begun. I receive no pleasure in this, it is simply the only solution. There must be peace and order, the end of life on earth will ensure that. Goodbye.

On the subject of technologically-enhanced bone-healing, a quick Google search has revealed that genetically-engineered osteoblasts have been used to accelerate bone growth in mice.

How long is an average Engi lifespan?

On another note, that would give a whole new meaning to the term "dogfight".

And meanwhile I'm sitting here wondering what sane person would want to have animal parts grafted onto their body for purely aesthetic reasons. Then again I also wonder the same thing about people who get piercings in their nose, lip, eyebrow; pretty much anywhere outside the ear.

Because they believe it expresses their personality well.

And it would seem it's less grafting then causing the person's genes to demand they have, say, cat ears, then growing cat ears. But that's just what it seems like to me.

Yeah, not so much grafting as a week or two of accelerated cell growth. It's a somewhat intensive process, reason why you need to go down to a place like Rio to get it done.

Engi live around ~120 years, about the same as the average human lifespan in this time period.

You're not entirely alone there.

Playing genetic twister just to "express your personality" seems silly, dangerous and foolish in the extreme.

So I suspect the issue will sort itself out when some mutant strain of cancer shows up.

So an older Engi still serving as a pilot would be acceptable at what age? What age would be "nope, too old."? Is 60-70 fine?

While I could see an old Engi fighter pilot, I think for the purposes of in-game rank you're not going get higher than thirty before we start wondering why it's an underling and not the commander.

I was going to go with something about him not wanting a higher rank. Most of my RPG characters are on the younger end of the spectrum, so I'm trying to go for something different.

I would suggest thirty, that's about the median age on this boat and wouldn't be that abnormal for an Engi.

Meh, we have people who do crazy things to themselves today. Covering their bodies in so many tattoos no original skin is visible, getting enough piercings to pull over an electromagnet, and that one dude who gave himself cat related features without the aid of genetic tomfoolery. Getting genetic modifiers in an age where we know enough about genetics to do such things just strikes me as something people would do. People are super special snowflakes Basilisk, and you won't be able to change that

Hooray for plot movement. So I think I'm going have another brief time skip, to get everyone back in fighting shape. I promise to stop time skipping so much at some point, don't want to use up the entirety of this six month mission in time skips after all, but we do need breathers for people in-game to recover. This next mission should be a lot more involving, though, on everyone's part.

What would standard issue weaponry be? I'm guessing that it would be a service rifle of sorts, but are they usually plasma or kinetic (bullet) based?

Antidermis: 50% pit mutagen, 50% questionable Ga-Koro water. We now know the secrets of Makuta's servants.

The standard assault rifles are kinetic. Because we have yet to outsmart boolet.

Specialists like the Boarding Team tend to use weapons that use a partially expended FTL crystal and set it off to ionize mass and turn it into plasma, or focus the energy release into a laser beam using a disposable lens. Plus all sorts of other stuff you can do.

Plasma or kinetic is decided by what clips you put into the rifle, so it's really personal choice. We have assault rifles, shotguns, submachine guns, and of course swords because honorable melee is a thing in the future.
