NuparuTheEngineer
I have 2 masks of Takanuva and they both have this problem. The masks have this strange thing going on. The problem is that some of the plastic on the masks is sort of falling off. But, the plastic is like hair and both of my masks are suffering from this. I have two Avohkii masks in silver, which do not have this problem, and the Stars Takanuva Avohkii aswell, again not problem. Does anyone know a solution? I would post pictures but my best camera has no charger. If I find it, I will take some pictures. Please help.
Voxumo
You know I have seen this same sorta of issue on some of my avohkiis as well as one of my kraakhan.. But sadly I do not know a solution for it.. I honestly think it is just sort of wear and tear.. UngluedBike
That's weird. none of my avohkii's have ever done that.EDIT: just remembered that they were only unsealed a year or so ago. Mr. Lightning Bolt
sounds to me like plastic degradation. I've seen things made with plastic (in certain manufacturing processes) that ends up degrading and "strings" or "hairs" of the items start coming loose. Quote Time is my frenemy. So is money. fasggbfrfesv
I don't think I've had this ever happen, and I've got multiple Takanuva & Ussanui sets, aswell as the majority of the 2001 sets. Maybe it's something to do with climate?
Just A Dot
I dunno what to tell you. I've had my Takanuva set since 2004, and it's gotten a LOT of abuse back in the day.
Sybre
Preserve them. Keep them in a safe place and temperature. Make sure that not even Indiana Jones himself can steal either and make it out alive. Once they're perfectly secure. Find the solution, and find it fast. 1 Quote mindeth the cobwebs
Pomegranate
You know, I just took a look at mine, and it seems to have a similar thing going on, but I'm not sure how long that damage has been there. It's mostly at the "seams" and corners... I assume it's just from the regular use and tumbling all over my parts bin for the last 10+ years Edited April 10, 2014 by Pomegranate Quote . fasggbfrfesv
I've got my Avohkii;s out infront of me, and I can confirm there is no trace of the problem. I've also got my Stars Avohkii out, and it appears to be the same mould as the original Avohkii. Is it? I didn't realise moulds survived so long. Maybe it's just the time/conditions acting up. Quote profiles
KittehWubbins
Never happened on an Avohkii for me, but Lhikan's Noble Hau. Little tiny stringy stuff coming off the edges on the back. Klanadack
Ugh. This has happened to every single toa metru mask I own, except for Nokama's. I have three Avohkii, though, and it hasn't happened to any of them. Quote Chuck Norik is no match for Bruce Lhikan! TwistedLego
For those who have experienced this "degrading" of the plastic, can you post the conditions in which the masks have been kept? Do you leave them on the Bionicles posed, or stored among other lego? Are they exposed to direct sunlight often, or to smoke, or even aerosols? What kind of weather conditions do you live in; for example, hot and dry, humid, etc? As Toa_of_Regret mentioned earlier plastics eventually go through a break down process, albeit it usually takes a really really long time, however (and like a lot have mentioned already) there are things that can speed up the processes. As an avid toy collector I know other figures I keep are made of plastics that are more susceptible to things such as sunlight. So just curious as to what conditions the masks are kept in, for those of you who have experienced this.
