Vinyl Records Collecting

Just wanted to see if any BZP members collected vinyl like I do. You can share your prized records here, ones you want or ones you love.

 

My most prized records are:

Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here

The Beatles 1967-1970 Double Blue Vinyl

The Rolling Stones Hot Rocks 1964-1971

The Steve Miller Band: Book of Dreams

I have 250+ Vinyls that my dad gave me, I started collecting a year or two ago.

 

Honorable mention to a laser-engraved Styx album I have.

I started collecting when I was 16. My most classic records would be,

 

-Velvet Underground & Nico

-(Mike Oldfield:) Tubular Bells, Islands

-(Jimi Hendrix:) Are You Experienced, Electric LadyLand, Blues, Hear My Train A Comin', Valleys Of Neptune

-(Marillion:) Season's End

-Beethoven's 3rd, 5th and 9th Symphonies

 

My hi-fi set consists of a 1970s Sony turntable, a 1991 Sony amplifier, and two bloody ancient speakers.

oooh goodie. I've been collecting records for about 2 years now I think, and am nearing 200. I'd list them all but nobody wants to read that so I'll do what you guys did and list my prize possessions:

 

-XXX by Asia

-Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles (Original pressing)

-Abbey Road by The Beatles (Original pressing)

-The Afterman by Coheed & Cambria (limited box set with gold/silver vinyl and book)

-Brave by Marillion (extremely rare, with alternate endings on side 4)

-Killing Is My Business... by Megadeth (Original uncensored pressing)

-2112 by Rush

-Master Of Puppets by Metallica (picture vinyl)

-The Division Bell by Pink Floyd (blue vinyl)

-The Ladder by Yes (Limited numbered edition)

 

There's a bunch more obscure and less-rare ones I have (Including that engraved styx album) and some that aren't really rare but I love owning anyway but I'll not put them in.

 

As for holy grails... I'd say Dream Theater's "Metropolis Pt. 2", Megadeth's "Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?", any early Marillion albums, and some Metal Church is what I'm on the hunt for.

vinyl is one format that I'd really love to get into but sadly have been unable to, due to space and price issues as well not actually owning a record player.

 

that said, I pretty much secured myself a copy of the limited edition Record Store Day exclusive Kocytean 12" EP by Katatonia, pending pickup on Saturday, so I guess that marks the start of my vinyl collection. I just have no idea how quickly it'll grow from there.

 

honestly though, given that it's limited to 2000 copies, I imagine that no matter how big my collection will be in a few years, this will still be one of my most prized pieces. I don't see much else topping it.

I just got in the limited box set vinyl edition of Transatlantic's brand new "Kaleidoscope". 3 translucent green LPs, 2 CDs and an awesome slip cover. Definitely a prize to own.

I don't exactly collect records, but I do have probably 16 or so, mostly classical music. I love listening to classical music on a record player. :3

I'd like to point out, though, that if you're willing to visit thrift stores (or yard sales), it's arguably cheaper than collecting CDs. I've gotten most of my records for 50c, and the record player for $3.75.

Ugh. I wish I had these ones, but I don't and probably never will considering every Abbey Road I come by is just a remastering or $150+. I do have The Division Bell on CD, but that isn't very special to me, I need the Vinyl, and Pink Floyd if my favorite.

 

Reminds me, I also have Revolver from The Beatles, and a picture vinyl of Bruce Springsteen, framed and unplayable.

Yeah I lucked out with both. Abbey Road I found for 50 cents at a thrift shop with a huge gouge taken out of the B-Side, but it miraculously plays just fine. And TDB I've seen go for hundreds on ebay and I found it for $30.

 

Also have Revolver, but it's the remastered so nothing special.

I don't really collect, but recently I got The Glitch Mob's Love Death Immortality because it's a very cool album. Then on Record Store Day I snagged the limited pressing marbled-color Drink The Sea/We Can Make The World Stop bundle.

I do have a bunch of records in vinyl. I don't have any origional presses from the 60s or anything like that. Most are from the 90s or later on.
