Set Review: 70131 Rogon's Rock Flinger

Recommended Posts

Rogon

When times get tough, you get tougher. And that means bringing in some rhino Chima to take care of business and throw a few rocks around! LEGO was kind enough to provide Rogon's Rock Flinger for a BZPower review, and the rhinos deliver with their fierce armored vehicle. Read on, and watch the video, to see how thick the rhinos' hide is against a member of the spider tribe as we continue on with Chima Month on BZPower.

Pretty good review! As far as aesthetics go, this one is one of my favorite Chima sets (I bought it last week and it has started a surprisingly renewed interest in Chima for me) insofar as I really like how the front of the vehicle looks. I disagree with the review though, in that when I was building this one I was actually distinctly disappointed in the high amount of technic in the build. All the exposed beams and technic deals on the back leave the rear looking terribly bare, and it contrasts poorly with the very bulky front of the vehicle. Even the front is a bit disappointing to me, since a lot of the bulk is achieved through bigger technic panels. I imagine all the technic stuff, plus the big wheels, are at least partly responsible for the higher price, too. I dunno, I guess it just kinda feels like they were cutting corners, and although I do like how it actually ends up looking a lot, the build isn't one of my favorites. The construction of the head is pretty awesome, though.

(I do agree that the one rock is pretty disappointing, at this price point they could have included at least 2.)

The minifigures are great, though. It's a bit sad that it took so long to get rhinos, and that there's only the two of them so far, but the fact that you can get both in one set is pretty nifty, and I for one really like their designs. And hey, it might just be because of the low number of members there are, but it's the only tribe with a 1:1 gender representation in minifigures! Considering how atrocious the gender ratio in Chima is overall (6 males for every female, if you're wondering) that should count for something.

(Sparacon isn't really anything special. Better than Sparratus, but not as cool as Spinlyn. And I don't even really like the spider tribe, so he doesn't do much for me. The gun is kinda interesting, though)
