Mixels App Updated

Both the iOS and Android versions of Calling All Mixels have been updated for the next series of Mixels. This means nine new Mixels, allowing for a whole bunch of new mixes and Maxes, three new lands, new quests with valuable rewards, and more! Unfortunately the apps aren't free, but if you're a fan of the Mixels it might be worth checking out.

I honestly (no offense) thought the series would crash and burn by now. most of the other series put up by lego have some story substance to them, or at least their own show now these days while mixels (as colorful and fun as it looks) seems to lack such a thing (indeed it does have shorts, but I do not see those working for too long). and now they have a game app? may I ask how this fad kicked off? plain advertising and gimmicks or was it something more...err.. internet based?

The notion that a theme needs a complex ongoing storyline to be successful is one that springs up here on BZPower more than most other sites, since this site was founded to celebrate a theme with a complex and engaging storyline — however, there are countless themes that have been successful with even less story substance than the Mixels theme.

 

Besides, since when has a theme ever "crashed and burned" before a single year has passed? The closest example I can think if is Galidor, and that was a theme with nowhere near as much creative potential. Even it only "crashed and burned" in the sense that one set got cancelled before the year was up. Otherwise, it mostly saw the year through to its end, with even more media support than most themes might have gotten in their very first year at that time. And keep in mind that Galidor had no shortage of story substance, which didn't stop it from being one of the LEGO Group's most spectacular failures in the past two decades.

fair enough, but I must ask why they advertise with shorts rather then doing a comedy, though true there is no real "story" the shorts did make me want to watch more. as for the crash and burn, I am sorry to say I stand by this. there is no doubting its success or the success of other non story misc themed sets like "castle" but generally that kind of theme is more of generalization rather then a full blown series like mixels who has a Wealth of nicely made animated shorts to announce that it is its own thing like ninjago, exo force, and even bionicle before it. its success is unquestioned for now, and it is nice and colorful, but I say it will mainly crash and burn due to the fact that it relies on some gimmicky hogwash that will fade out fairly soon, and with chima fading out and hero factory taking a nose dive what is gonna be the next big thing? as you can see mixles has the opprotunity to be both a longer lived show (due to its random and hilarious comedy and colorful animation) and a good toy series that cashes in on you buying them all and fusing them. it has potential, I just hope it does not die, in the end I dont see the other current "series" lasting any longer then a year at most. just saying.

Well, we already know Ninjago is continuing into 2016 (with new episodes confirmed for next year and a feature film in development for the year after that). And from what I've heard, Chima is also continuing into 2015. Plus there's a new constraction theme coming out next year, and while there's no telling what that will be, I'm sure it will have a strong multimedia component just like BIONICLE, Galidor, Knights Kingdom, and Hero Factory have all had. And then in 2017 we get the sequel to The LEGO Movie. All in all, I think the future of media-driven LEGO themes is fairly secure.

That is lovely to know, too bad I stopped giving a **** about lego since bionicle ended. Chima would have attrated my attention but they had to make the show so forced, they tried so hard to make it light and humorous that it was sickening. with ninjago they should have just ended where they were at, at least with bionicle we had plenty of clues to it continuing, (the first 4 books all eluded to things way in the future, and the first movie had a cliff hanger then and there) with ninjago, it could have ended with the golden ninja beating the overlord. that is not to say the next half does nto look promising, it does but they made the fatal error of bringing the overlord back 1, and 2 they can only keep this up for so long. a Bionicle recap would be nice, but lego does not want anything to do with darka nd complex stories anymore lets not kid ourselves, all the evidence 2007 and onward leads to lego wanting to kill it off meanwhile greg did his best to keep it alive with his brilliant writing skills and creativity, as Chima seems more like they are shoving something down his throat. and hero factory? I am not one fo the blind bionicle fanboys who think it "replaced" bionicle but one fo the few who were holding high expectations on it living up to the name of Bionicle's heir. it did not, it completely flopped story wise and the names were horrible. furno? Rokka? really? long story short (and forgive me for getting off topic there) the stories we have going are short term. what I expect is something with a longer term, a 3 year story does not cut it at least in my own opinion, if it lasts 5 years? good for it.

I don't think that any of the current story themes are being shoved down Greg's throat. "Dark and complex" stories have NEVER been the limit of his creative ability, and from what I've heard in interviews, he really quite likes writing for Legends of Chima.

 

Ninjago, at any rate, is confirmed for at least five years, considering that a movie has been announced for 2016 (and this isn't just a tenuous rumor like the alleged live-action Hero Factory movie — this is something that's actually happening). I don't think there was anything wrong with bringing back the Overlord, any more than with bringing back Makuta so many times in BIONICLE. The Overlord has been established as a sort of primal darkness that exists to balance out the forces of light in the world, so it's not a huge surprise that he could regain power even after a major defeat. And Ninjago is reasonably "dark and complex" — maybe not as much as BIONICLE was at its darkest moments, but it doesn't have to be nearly that dark to be a good story.

Nixels? it sounds like they were just called "Mixels" I never heard the sound of an "N" being used, then again "n" and "m" have very similar sounds.
