Set Review: The LEGO Movie 70814 Emmet's Construct-o-Mech

Recommended Posts

Don

When you need to pack a punch in a LEGO city, assembling a mech suit out of the nearby construction equipment seems like the best idea. Today we'll take a look at Emmet's Construct-o-Mech and see just how well he can fight off Skeletrons and Micro Managers. Will he save the day or fall apart in a pile of pieces? Read, and watch, on to find out! Plus, we are giving away some LEGO Movie polybags!

Great review!

Honestly I'm not sure I'll get Emmet's Construct-O-Mech. While it is a great-looking set, its functions are fairly ordinary (drawing mostly from Lego City sets like those it is built from in the movie) and while I'd love to have a unique Emmet face and Angry Kitty, I'm much more concerned about obtaining the Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! for now.

I feel like this set may have been more appealing if, instead of two Skeletrons, it featured either a few unique Micro Managers or, perhaps even better, Lord Business himself (who is only otherwise available in his full regalia in Lord Business' Evil Lair). As it is the Skeletrons are way outmatched, and aren't really a selling feature unless you intend to army-build them.

Even if you are army building this in too big of a set to use for that.

At some point you realize that you are but a speck in the Universe.

That you time in this worlds is but a blink.

You see the whole of reality as it unfolds before you.

You try to see how far you can reach, and it’s not that far past your face.

But then you come back from the brink.

You hold them in your arms again.

And you know that you are where their world begins.

You are their rock.

Maybe if you didn't want the set itself, but if you already had 10+ Skeletrons, this would give you two more. I'm not suggesting people would buy multiples, but people who already intended to get a bunch of Skeletrons through other channels would likely take this set into consideration.

Personally, I think this set is a bit of a letdown, especially the legs. Not only are they stiff and unjointed, they're rather bare on the inside. This is also the LEGO Movie set that I feel most shows the necessary downscaling to reach set-achievable size.

I don't thing there's any thing wrong with the legs on their own but when you take in to account that they only move backwards and the fixed elbows in the arms it make for a mech that can't reach down to fight the bad guys that it comes with.

Yet another reason flying Micro-Managers might have been preferable.

This set looks pretty awesome, but is a little disappointing in comparison to the other sets from the second wave. Regardless, I think it's a worthwhile set; just not one I'll purchase.
