BZNOMIC

A Toarobot18 Game!

BZNomic is a game where the players themselves create the game. Though a few rules are set in stone, the rest are up to you, the players, to propose! Who knows what this game will become? Join and shape its destiny!

IRONCLAD RULES

ETHICAL

1. No rule of this game may ever require or cause this game, its gameplay, or any player to violate a rule of BZPower or the Games & Trivia Forum.

2. No rule of this game may ever make this game into a R.P.G.

3. No rule of this game may require a player to take or not take any action except within the topic which contains the game.

4. Rules shall not impose excessively burdensome requirements on players that would force them to consume large amounts of time playing.

5. Should a host or BZPower staff member decide that any rule violates one of the above four rules, that rule is considered to never have been a rule in the first place. Additionally, any rule of this game that would lead to this game being shut down for any reason other than its completion is also considered to have never been a rule.

6. Should an existing player prefer not to follow a particular rule, he may choose to leave the game rather than continue playing with that rule. No player or character can ever be prohibited from leaving the game.

7. No rule may change the hosts of the game except with the consent of the hosts.

8. Except when a rule is invalid for some reason, such as due to the rules above, all players must obey all current rules at all times.

THEMATIC

9. When someone becomes a player of the game, he must choose a Bionicle character that has not already been chosen to be his character when he begins the game. Players, their characters, and their widgets should be listed in this post or another post by one of the hosts.

10. Like a mafia game, which has both strategic/mechanical (choosing whom to kill) and thematic (the stories with the results) elements, this game should mix strategy with a Bionicle theme. All thematic elements of this game must be Bionicle themed. Such thematic elements don't have to be necessarily canon, as long as they are related to Bionicle in some way. Any rule that has a thematic element to it must comply with this rule.

11. Any rule that has a thematic element shall be known as a "thematic rule," even if the rule also has non-thematic elements as well. Whenever a player makes a rule-change proposal which creates a new rule that he thinks qualifies as a thematic rule, or amends a rule that was not thematic before into a thematic rule, he should say he thinks the new/amended rule is thematic in his proposal post. If at least one other player agrees in a post that the rule is thematic, the player proposing the rule is considered to be correct, and the proposed rule is considered to be thematic. If the proposed thematic rule passes and becomes a rule of the game, the character whose player proposed it gains five widgets.

For an example of a thematic rule, imagine the following rule:

"A player can buy a Scary Rahi for their character for 7 widgets. If a player whose character has a Scary Rahi messages the host saying he would like his character to kill another player's character with a Scary Rahi, then the character attacked immediately dies and the player whose character died is eliminated from the game, unless the attacked character also owned a Scary Rahi. If a character has a Scary Rahi, it will be listed beside that character in the post which lists the players, characters, and widgets."

This rule is mostly strategic, giving players a way to eliminate other players if they are willing to spend some of their widgets. However, as the means of attack is known as a "Scary Rahi," this rule would be considered a thematic rule.

MECHANICAL

12. These rules are the "Ironclad Rules." Ironclad Rules can never be modified except by hosts or BZPower staff members in accordance with other Ironclad Rules. Ironclad Rules always take precedence over any other type of rule: between two contradicting rules, the Ironclad Rule always wins. No new rules can become Ironclad Rules, which were created by Toarobot18 to form the foundation for the game and are intended to be modified only when absolutely necessary.

IMMUTABLE RULES

13. Besides the Ironclad Rules, rules can be of two types: immutable rules and mutable rules. When the game begins, rules 13 - 18 are immutable and rules 19 - 24 are mutable. Rule-change proposals may either (1) create a new mutable rule, (2) amend an existing mutable rule, (3) repeal an existing mutable rule, (4) make an existing mutable rule into an immutable one, or (5) make an existing immutable rule into a mutable one. A rule-change proposal should clearly designate which of above functions it has.

14. Every rule-change proposal is assigned a number, which is the first number unused by any previous rule or rule-change proposal, successful or otherwise. (Therefore, the first rule-change proposal of the game will be Proposal 25.) When a rule-change proposal is passed that creates a new rule, the new rule is assigned the number of the proposal that created it. Whenever a rule is amended, the rule is renumbered to take the number of the proposal that amended it. Whenever a rule is transmuted (changed from mutable to immutable or vice versa), the rule is renumbered to take the number of the proposal that transmuted it. Rules that are repealed are stricken from the rules list, but their numbers should not be reused. Since for every proposal, a new number is used, the number of the latest proposal should equal the number of proposals there have been total plus the number of rules there were at the start of the game. Since not all proposals pass and some rules are repealed, the actual list of current rules may jump from number to number.

15. Whenever a player would like to make a rule-change proposal, he must post his proposal, along with its number and whether he thinks it is thematic, in this topic. If the proposal is creating a new rule or amending an existing rule, the full and exact text of the new/amended rule should be placed in quote tags. Once posted, that part of the post may not be edited. If a change needs to be made to the proposal, another proposal must be made. After the proposal has been posted, other players may "second" the proposal. To make their intention clear, to second a proposal players should include in their post the following message, capitalized, substituting the number of the proposal for the number sign: I SECOND PROPOSAL #

Immediately after a rule-change change has been seconded by three players other than the player who proposed it, the rule-change takes effect. Though rule-changes will eventually be reflected in this post or another post summarizing current rules, the actual rules of the game have been modified from the moment a proposal has been seconded three times. The official content of a rule will be identical to the quoted content in the rule-change proposal post that created or amended the rule.

16. When two rules contradict each other, immutable rules always take precedence over mutable rules. Between two rules of the same type, the rule with the lower number takes precedence.

17. Whenever a rule-change proposal is passed, the character whose player proposed that proposal gains two widgets. This is in addition to any widgets that player received under Ironclad Rule 10.

18. TRANSMUTED AS RULE 48

65. There shall be three ways to win; by Fortune, by Force, or by Forging. To win by Fortune, a player must have over 200 widgets and must not lose any widgets within 24 hours. To win by Force, a player must successfully kill off all other players in a single day. To win by Forging, a player must collect six Great Discs and use them to form the Kanohi Vahi. Note that Great Discs have a power level of 9; each disc introduced into the game must begin at power level 1 and be successively upgraded in increments not to exceed one level per 24 hours. The methods of obtaining and upgrading discs shall be decided using subsequent mutable rules; it is recommended that they be challenging enough to be interesting but not so much as to be impossible.

MUTABLE RULES

19. Whenever two or more players disagree on the correct application of a rule, one or more of them may post invoking "The Voice of Mata Nui" to decide the correct interpretation of the rule for that particular case. Then any player in the game may nominate a player to take on the role of The Voice of Mata Nui for that case, and other players may second a player's nomination. Once a player's nomination has been seconded by at least three players other than the player who made the nomination, the nominated player becomes The Voice of Mata Nui and makes the final, binding decision on the correct interpretation of the rule in the particular disputed case. However, no precedent is set, and in future cases different players taking on the role of The Voice of Mata Nui may interpret the same rules in a different manner. The Voice of Mata Nui must make its decision considering first what it considers to be the correct interpretation of the rule, then the best interpretation, and then the spirit of the rule. No player may dispute the decision of The Voice of Mata Nui, unless that player is a host or staff member alleging the interpretation violates an Ironclad Rule.

20. Whenever a player believes another player has broken a specific current immutable or mutable rule, he may post alleging so and give the number of the rule allegedly violated, and if at least three other players post agreeing that the rule has been broken, the player alleged to have broken the rule loses five widgets.

21. AMENDED AS RULE 30

22. Whenever at least three other players agree that a player has done or said something worthy of Teridax, the player who said or did that thing loses one widget.

23. If a rule makes further play impossible, or if this topic becomes inactive and is not resurrected before the cut-off time, the player whose character had the most widgets has won, or if multiple characters are tied for the most points, then their players have tied and won.

24. To join the game, a member simply posts in the topic stating his intention to join the game and chooses his character (in accordance with Ironclad Rule 9). Then that member is a player and should be added to the list. If a player is eliminated from the game, his character and widgets are also eliminated from the game. However, he may start over by rejoining the game at any time and choosing a new character.

25. AMENDED AS RULE 27

27. Dice rolls or the d6 system will be used to decide the results of attacks; the current Host will roll the die in his own Meatspace. Alternatively, he may use a RNG. Thematic?
[1d6] <attack target Ehks

[1d6] = roll 1 six sided die.
1-3= fail.
4-6= success.

Very simple d6 system.

28. AMENDED AS RULE 29

29. AMENDED AS RULE 78

30. Whenever at least two other players agree that a player has done or said something worthy of the Great Beings, the player who said or did that thing gains one widget.

31. This rule shall create the Onu-Koro Great Mine. One every 24 hours a player can mine for one, which consists of stating their intention to do so in this topic and paying 1 widget to the Chief Prospector, Toarobot18. When this is done the mining player will receive between 1 and 10 Protodermis Ores (to be decided by TR18 at random). The list of players will be updated to account for numbers of ores owned as well as number of widgets.

32. This rule shall create the Widget Mint. Players can use the Widget Mint to convert ores into widgets (at a 1:1 exchange rate) by posting in the topic how many ores they want to convert.

33. This rule shall create the Xian Armory. Players can use the Armory to forge Armor out of their Protodermis Ores by posting their intention to do so in this topic. One suit of Armor requires 5 ores to produce. Each suit of Armor can protect against one Scary Rahi attack but is discarded after each attack.

48. AMENDED AS RULE 64

49. If a player has said or done something Worthy of the Great Beings 5 times, they're character receives Awards of Honor, which gives them special privileges, such as mining twice per day and paying less for armor, as well as 5 widgets. Every time a player says or does something Worthy of the Great Beings every 5 times (10, 15, 20, so on), they are awarded 10 widgets. Similarly, if a player has said or done something Worthy of Teridax 5 times, their player is imprisoned and cannot second amendments and rules, mine, or create amendments and rules for 48 hours and are fined 5 widgets. A player's character get's imprisoned and fined every 5 times (10, 15, 20, so on) they do or say something Worthy of Teridax.

55. A player may only message the host once within a 24-hour period saying he would like his character to kill another character or steal from another character with a Scary Rahi; A player or Scary Rahi may only kill or steal from another character once within a 24-hour period.

Any player who proposed or seconded this proposal shall have all their widgets and items immediately moved to a secure location known as the Metru Nui Vaults as soon as this proposal passes, and everything in those Vaults shall be recorded in the first post along with the player and character who were their original owner.

If any player or character who proposed or seconded this proposal is eliminated or killed by The Lorax or by Brutaka or by a Tahtorak belonging to The Lorax or Brutaka or by any other Scari Rahi belonging to The Lorax or Brutaka or by anything or anyone belonging to The Lorax or Brutaka within ten days of this proposal's passage, then if that player rejoins the game, he may post reclaiming all the widgets and items that were formerly his or his character's, all of which are transferred from the Vaults to his or his new character's possession once he has claimed them. If any player who proposed or seconded this proposal wishes his widgets and items to be returned to him from the Vaults at any time, regardless of whether he has been eliminated and returned or his character has been killed, he may post requesting the widgets and items be returned and they are to be immediately transferred from the Vaults to his or his character's possession.

The Tahtorak belonging to The Lorax / Brutaka shall be immediately eliminated from the game when this proposal is passed, and if The Lorax / Brutaka purchases any other Scary Rahi within the five days following the passage of this proposal, those Scary Rahi are also immediately eliminated from the game the second they are purchased. The Lorax / Brutaka shall also be fined a number of widgets equal to the number of players in the game other than The Lorax, and one of those widgets shall be given to each of the players in the game other than The Lorax.

60. This proposal will allow players to deposit items to the vault.

63. Section 1: Matoran Council

On the first of every month, players may begin nominating themselves or other players as Council Members of the Matoran Council. In addition, players may second nominations that other players have made. After twenty-four hours have passed since the first player was nominated, the three players whose nominations received the most seconds become the three Council Members of the Motoran Council. Ties are randomly decided by a host.

The duty of the Matoran Council is to promote order by regulating the actions of the players by creating laws. Laws are similar to rules, but unlike rules, they cannot implement or modify elements of the game, such as by, for example, creating a new type of Scary Rahi for players to purchase. Rather, laws can only order players to take or not take actions within the game. Additionally, unlike rules, which players are bound to obey according to Rule 8, players do not have to obey laws. However, each law specifies a minimum and maximum penalty for not obeying it, and if a judge finds a player guilty of breaking a law, then the judge must choose a penalty within the range specified by the law and that penalty is immediately enforced under the authority of this rule. The only penalties that may be specified in laws are fines of widgets or elimination from the game.

Whenever a Council Member wishes to propose a law, he must post it in the topic, using quote tags to mark the law itself, and as soon as another Council Member posts seconding the law, the law has passed. Laws may be amended or repealed in the same manner. Laws are numbered just like rules are. The first law will be Law 1. Here is a sample post proposing a law:

I propose a new law, Law 1.

On Thursdays, no player may message the host in order to kill or steal from another player. The penalty for breaking this law is a fine between 5 and 50 widgets or elimination from the game.

Section 2: Chief Turaga

On the first of every month, players may begin nominating themselves or others to be the Chief Turaga. In addition, players may second nominations that other players have made. After twenty-four hours have passed since the first player was nominated, the player whose nomination received the most seconds becomes the Chief Turaga. Ties are randomly decided by a host.

The duty of the Chief Turaga is to lead the development of the game into a fun and competitive form and promote order by ensuring the laws and judges are fair. As soon as the Chief Turaga has been chosen, he should choose two other players to be the judges. Additionally, every time a law has been passed by the Matoran Council, the Chief Turaga may remove the law within twenty-four hours of its passage if he would like to do so.

Section 3: Judges

The two judges chosen by the Chief Turaga decide whether a player is guilty of breaking a law or not, and choose which of the penalties specified in the law that was broken should be applied. Whenever a player thinks another player has broken a law, he may say so in the topic. Then the host must randomly decide which of the two judges will decide whether the player has broken the law. Then that judge must make the decision and, if the player did break the law, announce which of the available penalties that player will receive. As soon as the penalty has been announced, it is immediately enforced under the authority of this rule.

64. TRANSMUTED AS RULE 65

66. Whenever a player is fined for breaking a law, the widgets that are fined shall be transferred to the Great Nui Treasury. By a unanimous decision of the three Council Members of the Matoran Council, the Secretary of the Great Nui Treasury may be appointed, who has the ability to transfer funds from the Great Nui Treasury to players/characters or to other entities which may later be created in the game. The Matoran Council may create laws regulating the actions of the Secretary of the Great Nui Treasury in order to ensure he spends the funds of the Treasury in a manner the Council deems appropriate.

67. A player may voluntarily transfer some or all of his widgets, ores, armor, rahi, or other property to another player by requesting that the property be transferred in this topic.

69. A player may spend thirteen (13) widgets to add an enhancement to their Scary Rahi. A Scary Rahi with an enhancement(henceforth known as a Terrifying Rahi) is able to attack or try to steal from a player of its owner's choice, success or failure dictated by Rule 27, even if that player has a Scary Rahi of their own unless they also own a Terrifying Rahi as well.

If the owner of a Terrifying Rahi chooses to steal from another player they can steal a maximum of ten (10) widgets.

In order to prevent imbalance, an owner of a Terrifying Rahi must wait at least 48 hours before sending their Terrifying Rahi on an errand(kill or steal).

It is also encouraged for the player to specify the enhancement of the Rahi, although it has not bearing on the mechanics of the game whatsoever and merely a personal choice.

72. This will expand the vaults capabilities, so people who did not second proposal for rule 55, can now remove their own items from the vaults.

77. This rule will establish the Ta-Koro Guard. The Guard are payed by the state via the Treasurer, and chosen by the Turaga Council. Being a Guard gives a player the ability to stop a killing or a robbery from any means once every 24 hours.  There is no limit to the amount of Guards that can be hired except for the funds in the treasury. A Player may leave the Guard at any point in time. Guards cannot be robbed, and a Scary Rahi cannot kill them. A Terrifying Rahi can, using the dice roll of the Scary Rahi. The payment of the Guards will be decided by the Secretary.

78. A player can buy a Scary Rahi for their character for 7 widgets. If a player whose character has a Scary Rahi messages the host saying he would like his character to kill another player's character with a Scary Rahi and the dice roll is successful (as per rule 27), then the character attacked immediately dies and the player whose character died is eliminated from the game, unless the attacked character also owned a Scary Rahi or was protected by the Ta-Koro Guard. A player can also message the host saying he would like his character to steal a maximum of 5 widgets from another character if the dice roll is successful (as per rule 27), unless the attacked character also owns a Scary Rahi or is protected by the Ta-Koro Guard.. The player buying a Scary Rahi should nominate the species of said Rahi, which is encouraged to be linked to their character in some way, but does not necessarily have to be.

80. This rule allows widgets to be transferred to non-player services, such as the Treasury, and other services not run directly by players.

82. When a player with a Scary Rahi attempts to rob or attack another player who owns a Terrifying Rahi, they must achieve a 6 on a D6 roll to succeed instead of the attack from Rule 27.

88. This creates the Automated Widget Payment System, or AWPS. This system allows for any player to set up an automatic transfer of their own widgets between any player or non-player entity. Said Widgets will be moved by the host on the designated day that the Player recommends, allowing for hassle free payments.

All a player must do to set up a AWPS transfer is post in the Topic, stating their desire to open an automatic transfer. They must then clarify how many widgets must be moved, to whom or what they will be payed, and in what intervals it will be payed. Any AWPS transfer may be canceled by the Player who created the transfer at any time.

89. Whenever a player wishes to mine and does not have any widgets but does have at least one Protodermis Ore, Toarobot18 may assume that the player intends to mint one of his Ores to pay for the mining.

90. Players who wish to exit the game temporarily may deposit all of their possessions within the Vault, to make sure they lose nothing. If they return, they will be able to reclaim their possessions.

91. Whenever a BZPower member joins the game who has never previous played it, if that member, within three days of joining, names an existing player who convinced him to join, the existing player gains twenty widgets.

92. If a player whom currently acts a a Judge exists the game, they may choose a player to nominate as the next judge. The Chief Turaga must agree to this nomination, however.

Welcome to the game. By the way, I'm not going to wait for a certain number of players, so consider the game as having started now. Of course, to make any rule changes per Rule 15, we'd need at least one more.

I would like to propose a rule if I can now, its more of a system.

25. Dice rolls or the d6 system will be used to deside the results of attacks. Thematic?

[1d6] <attack target Ehks

[1d6] = roll 1 six sided die.

1-3= fail.

4-6= success.

Very simplied d6 system.

Also, call me PUPWA. Edited by why did I do this?

Looks like it's the end of the line for 21.

Player list updated, "why did I do this?" changed to "Pupwa" (but I left the other name in parentheses so new/returning BZians know who you are), and characters added (I chose Kopaka). Pupwa, don't forget to place your proposal in quote tags.

Character added.

EDIT: added "PROPOSALS" section to the rules to list proposed proposals, their post numbers, and their fates, and to highlight the next proposal number.

All players and characters added. I updated the proposals list to reflect seconds by The Lorax and Ehks for Proposal 25.

EDIT: Assuming you meant to second it, Ehks, not just express support for the idea.

Assuming Ehks meant to second it (everyone, try to use the caps format suggested, since knowing whether something has been seconded and passed is important!), Proposal 25 has now passed and Rule 25 is in effect.

EDIT: Rule 25 added to the rules post and Pupwa awarded 2 widgets.

You're not missing anything. His rule is basically inoperable until another rule is created which stipulates when attacks would happen, what they would do, and who would roll the die.

In that case, I would like to amend Rule 25:

25. Dice rolls or the d6 system will be used to decide the results of attacks; the current Host will roll the die in his own Meatspace. Alternatively, he may use a RNG. Thematic?
[1d6] <attack target Ehks

[1d6] = roll 1 six sided die.
1-3= fail.
4-6= success.

Very simple d6 system.

Morally unambiguous.

Proposal 27 has passed, Rule 25 is amended and renumbered. Dapper-San given 2 widgets. Player list updated.

Amakusa, that is right, the goal is to get 200 widgets, for now. Theoretically, the goal and method of winning the game could easily be changed.

Well then, until we get something else in to explain this, I propose that we canonise the example to fill in the gap.

Proposal #28: Thematic

A player can buy a Scary Rahi for their character for 7 widgets. If a player whose character has a Scary Rahi messages the host saying he would like his character to kill another player's character with a Scary Rahi and the dice roll is successful (as per rule 27), then the character attacked immediately dies and the player whose character died is eliminated from the game, unless the attacked character also owned a Scary Rahi. If a character has a Scary Rahi, it will be listed beside that character in the post which lists the players, characters, and widgets. The player buying a scary rahi should nominate the species of said rahi, which is encouraged to be linked to their character in some way, but does not necessarily have to be.
