Best wave of Hero Factory

Recommended Posts

So basically, what wave of Hero Factory do you think was the best?

Personally, I would choose Breakout, as it had everything that made a good theme: a good non-humanoid character (Thornraxx), non-mindless villians, and overall good designs. Brain Attack would be a close second, with good color coordination between heroes and villians, as well as a somewhat Bionicle-esque look.

Hmmm, hard to choose between Breakout and Invasion from Below. Invasion from Below has more creative builds, but I loved the idea of Breakout having "theme villains" like Hero Factory's first wave. Not to mention that it was the first wave where it was obvious that the identities of the heroes played a key role in their design. Stringer, for instance, wasn't just a generic Hero painted in Stringer's color scheme: his sonic theme was integral to his design. Same goes for Evo's role as a weapons specialist and Nex's role as a communications technician, or the elemental themes of Surge, Stormer, and Breez.

As far as storyline is concerned, I think Breakout comes out ahead, if only slightly. Not only was its conclusion more satisfactory, but it did a great job keeping the focus balanced between the different heroes' solo missions. But on the other hand, some of my favorite characters like Bulk, Breez, and Nex were sadly omitted, while Stringer's characterization still felt unsatisfactory. Evo's characterization also changed without much clear explanation, but his new characterization did suit the story that was being told.

Overall, I can't really come to a clear decision. But both of those waves have some really good things going for them.

I wanna say Breakout. As a person who enjoys a little chaos once every so often, a massive jailbreak is pretty entertaining in my case. Besides, the Heroes got some pretty cool designs.

Breakout was when Hero Factory reached its prime. There were some sets that were mediocre compared to the rest, of course, but overall the line (and the story behind it) was incredibly solid.

If I had to pick a close runner-up it would probably be Invasion from Below. Some of the set designs for this wave are incredibly creative.

I do agree that Breakout was pretty much the pinnacle of the Hero Factory theme, even if some later sets were more unique or complex. The Breakout wave returned to the original Hero Factory concept of tracking down and arresting criminals, while using the newer building system to deliver a wide range of unique and varied Heroes and villains. The story was solid, if a little rushed, and additionally that was one of the only two years to provide fans with two well-written and engaging chapter books in addition to the typically mediocre TV episodes.

This year's Invasion From Below subtheme is also good, and the sets are absolutely fantastic, perfectly integrating constraction builds with new Hero Factory minifigures. Unfortunately, the story holds it back, having a fairly simple story and possibly the worst Hero Factory TV episode yet, with no side stories to add to it or distract us from it (that is, besides the beautiful and mercifully dialogue-free comics in the instructions and on the packaging).

Like a lot of other people, i choose Breakout being the best wave of sets and story. On the hero side of the sets, they were all really good even though all of them but Stormer had basic humanoid builds that most Hero Factory sets have, but they still had personality and still looked good overall.

The villain side of sets consisted of a variety of designs and colors. You had small creatures like Jawblade and Thornraxx, medium sized humanoid characters like Voltix and Core Hunter, as well as unique ones like Splitface. The others were fairly alright and still had personalties and great designs to them.

Don't forget though, if you were to put both the Winter sets and Summer sets together and say they were just one big wave of sets, then Breakout would be the only one so far to include all nine heroes, which is something i feel the latest two waves suffer from, not including Stringer and nex in either of them is just weird. However, that's not to say those waves are bad, they're still good, just not as great as Breakout in my opinion.

Invasion From Below. It was the first wave to take advantage of the Hero Factory building system's smooth and broad features and use them to build actual mechs instead of ill-fitting robot facsimiles of Bionicle's characters.

Steam Name: Toa Hahli Mahri. Xbox Live Gamertag: Makuta. Minecraft Username: ThePoohster.

Wants: 2003 Jaller (from Jaller and Gukko), Exo-Toa, Turaga Nuju, Turaga Vakama, Shadow Kraata, Axonn, Brutaka, Vezon & Fenrakk, Nocturn, ORANGE FIKOU.

I got rid of my picture, are you happy?

How exactly were earlier sets ill-fitting robot facsimiles of BIONICLE characters? That would be like saying BIONICLE sets were ill-fitting biomechanical facsimiles of Throwbots/Slizer characters. I think one of the beautiful things about Hero Factory's building system is its versatility — it works great for either robotic characters like Furno, mechs like Breez Flea Machine, and organic characters like Laval.

I agree with everyone else, Breakout and Invasion from below are the best waves. Breakout is probably my favorite- those Hero Cuffs, better Hero Cores and awesome new parts were what finally changed my opnions about Hero Factory to good ones. I remember going to Target nearly every day trying to see if they had Thornraxx in stock, only to find it several months later when I had no money with me.

Story-wise, I agree that Breakout was the best, with fair attempts at worldbuilding, characterization, and storytelling (which were all subsequently abandoned in Brain Attack). I'd say that the original Rise of the Rookies arc comes in second.

In terms of the sets, Breakout is my #1 again, with Ordeal of Fire coming in second.

Breakout was my personal favourite, I really liked some of the sets in that wave. But I have to mention the second wave of 'Titan' sets from Savage Planet as I really liked them and was the only wave where I got all the villain characters.

I liked the nod to Lego's darker past with Breakout. I absolutely loved the designs, and I'm one of the guys who screamed bloody murder when HF replaced Bionicle. I just wish that the show's scriptwriting could have lived up to the sets' potential (mind you, that's only my opinion. Please do not take offense if you are a fan of the show).

Whatever mountain you are climbing, you can do this.

I liked savage planet because of the quaza creatures, I want to recreate them to fit in with the bionicle universe, I liked the variety of villains in breakout, the brain attack parasites were cool throwbacks to the krana and kraata and could even work with bionicle pieces because of the axle connector and those little creatures in invasion from below remind me of the minifigure visorak. Ultimately, I'd say Breakout was the best wave because of the unique designs of some villians.

As for the best wave of Hero Factory, it's a hard pick between Breakout and Brain Attack. However, I would give it to Breakout by a very small margin because it was more relevant to the Hero Factory story. The TV animations were better, there were more sets released, it didn't exclude Stringer and Nex and it just made much more sense relative to Hero Factory. Nevertheless, I'd say Brain Attack did better in the sets department overall as they were much more complex (Jet Rocka and Dragon Bolt if you will). Following Breakout, every episode would have a little cliffhanger in the end which I didn't really like. For Breakout, it was the character in the end like Von Nebula or the Brain Creator clip. For Brain Attack, it was not all the brains were eliminated. For Invasion from Below, there was still an unhatched jumper on the Hero Pod. Even so, I still believe Breakout and Brain Attack take the overall win for the best wave of Hero Factory, the former coming out slightly ahead.
