Ragnarok Arcanum
So, I'm not really sure where to put this, but I figured general art would be somewhat close. Anyways, I'm sure there's a topic somewhere about this, but I'm wondering what the best methods to recolor Kanohi are? I'm looking for color matches for Nuva flat silver, Lhikan's gold, metru blue and black. I've used Prismacolor markers (both metallic and normal) and metallic sharpies; the former results in lighter shades than I'd want and the latter doesn't blend well on the masks' surfaces, resulting in a lot of smearing and streaking. So, anyone know of any good color matches? I'd like the dark blue and black to be matte as well, if anyone knows how to do that/if it's possible. Jam Pot Studios
Back when I was into Warhammer, I used to paint Kanohi with Citadel paints (the Games Workshop stuff) but it flaked off if it made the slightest contact with anything else, especially on masks that were '04 onwards. M'afraid I can't help other than to say don't try Citadel paints. Quote Blog|YouTube|Flickr Making brickfilms since 2007. Check out my latest animations: , , and Avengers Tower! silo
I used to use Citadel to paint masks when I was into 40k as well and it works alright when you varnished over it but the pots are soooo expensive (like all games workshop products). -Silo Edited July 27, 2014 by Silo Quote . The Hip Historian Iaredios
I once used some paint I used to paint birdhouses, and it gave the Kanohi a rugged, eroded look, but if you are not careful the paint would chip off and I would have a fragile rubber-like shell in the shape of the mask both chip and peel off. I would recommend spray paint, from what I hear it works very well, but you would permanently lose the original color. AuRon the champion
There is flat paint for citadel. I usual don't seal the paint on my kanohi masks (I also use citadel) and it works fine for me... But then again, I'm not overly rough with my masks and models. Mr. Cod
Most hobby paints will work in my experience (citadel, testors, etc.) but depending on the material you might need to sand the mask with a fine grit sandpaper to get the finish off first. As long as the material of the mask isn't too flexible the paints should stick. Be sure to use some spray primer first though, or the paint will come right off regardless.
