The Alternate Universe Game

Am I the first non-Premier Member to start a game topic? Awesome!

Anyway, this was an idea I had Turakii create for me on the old forums. It was pretty fun, but I never got around to having it made again here. This is how it works: I will start off with an event that happened in the official storyline, only with something changed. The next poster will talk about what happens in the Alternate Universe this change creates. The points of division, and their effects, can be as mundane or world-changing as you want. Here's an example:

Me:

Tahu's canister lands in Ga-Wahi instead of Ta-Wahi.

Poster 2:

Tahu accidentally lights Ga-Koro on fire, and he is banned from the village for the remainder of his adventures. Gali sides with Kopaka on every argument.

The Order of Mata Nui doesn't send Botar to take the Barraki to the Pit.

Poster 3:

Takadox is spared by the Brotherhood, and the other five executed. Takadox rises through the Brotherhood ranks until he himself becomes an honorary Makuta, and he masterminds the coup against Miserix instead of Teridax. Takadox rules the universe as a maniacal dictator.

Hahli never figures out how to fix the bridge in MNOG II. (Let's use this as my prompt for the next poster.)

future is an empty book. You must find your own destiny, my brave adventurer.

Lhikan doesn't die and he is still around, chilling with the present heroes. He becomes a Toa again to defeat the heat vision Rahkshi instead of Tahu.

Jaller puts on the mask of light.

Takua is killed by Turahk, and Jaller remains a Matoran. The Toa Nuva face Makuta, only for all to be destroyed by Energized Protodermis. Mata Nui never awakens and Spherus Magna is never reformed. A situation similar to the Kingdom happens.

The Iron Tribe of Spherus Magna was never affected by the Dreaming Plague.

On Bota Magna, everything is about to fall apart.

Teridax never betryaed Miserix because Mutran never told him what he had learned from Tren Krom. Instead, Mutran returns to that island to talk with the entity again, and is somehow talked or tricked into giving up his body. Tren krom breaks free of his prison with the powerful body of a Makuta, and poses as Mutran.

"Mutran" then betrays Miserix and takes leadership of the Brotherhood. Using the might and resources of the Makuta, he takes over the Matoran Universe and becomes supreme ruler, in order to keep it from descending into chaos while Mata Nui isn't paying attention. He crushes the Dark Hunters while that organisation is still in its infancy, Spiriah never experiments of the Skakdi, so they remain a peaceful and prosperous race. The Visorak horde is never created, and Tobduk's species survives. The Brotherhood never turns against the Great Spirit, so the Makoki Stone is never made and Lhikan's original teams survives. The Order of Mata Nui comes out of hiding in order to aid Mutran krom's government since he is basically doing their job for them and doing a good job of keeping the universe peaceful, safe and running smoothly. Toa are numerous due to the absence of wars, Dark Hunters, etc, and mostly use their powers to ward of natural disasters and rahi threats when they arise or to aid in the work of the Matoran under their care. They are nominally agents of the Brotherhood to protect the Pax Makuta, but mostly operate independently of the organisation.

Icarax then grows jealous of Mutran Krom's power and, when he has become complacent is his power, stabs him in the back and kills him, taking the throne of the universe for himself. This coup is widely criticised as a foolish power grab and he is opposed by both the Order and an army of Toa lead by Lhikan. The defection of so many Toa from the Brotherhood's power structure severely weakens it's grip on the universe, and its hordes of Rahkshi, Exo-Toa and war rahi are initially beaten back towards Destral by the Order/Toa army. Rahkshi and Rahi are more easily replaced than most species, however, so they soon resurge to match the Toa's strength. A long and bloody war ensues in which both sides are greatly weakened.

Enter Teridax, the great plotter. He knows that knowledge is power, so ever since the reign of Mutran Krom, he has been gathering information and delving into the secrets of that being's origin, and discovered that the MU is, in fact, a giant robot. Knowing that the best way to halt the universe-wide war would be to unite both sides against a common enemy or for a common goal, he races to create a virus that could strike down the Great Spirit. Since he has much less time to do that in this universe, the virus is much less refined and causes the Great Cataclysm to be much worse. Mata Nui is now dying quickly, rather than slowly slipping away over 1000 years. He announces this to the universe and states that unless a concerted effort can be made, they will all die. Begrudgingly the two sides cooperate, and are able to retrieve and use the mask of life and staff of Artakha and then finally re-awaken the robot... at which point Teridax possesses the core processor and gains total control over the entire universe. He kills the remaining Makuta and order leaders who might pose threats to him and infects what is left of their armies with krana-like mind-controlling rahi parasites. He then uses these to enforce order and begin to rebuild the war-torn universe. The bodyless spirit of Mata Nui is forced, not into the Ignika, but into a small Matoran who is them infected with a parasite and forced to work just like everyone else.

Once the MU is once again flourishing (albeit in a tightly-controlled way) and Teridax's robot body is strong once more, he sets out to conquer the true universe and bring more peoples under his rule. This includes Bara Magna, which is never reformed into Spherus Magna.

Lorax, that was AMAZING. People like you are why this game is awesome.

Without Nidhiki's defection, neither side is able to gain a foothold in Metru Nui. The city eventually loses its importance to the world, falling into obscurity like the Southern Islands. Before Teridax can enact his Plan, the Toa Mata are launched. However, just six more Toa out of hundreds already fighting makes little difference. The Order of Mata Nui intervenes, however, secretly helping the Toa travel from Metru Nui to the Core and letting them heal Mata Nui. The Great Spirit, now understanding the importance of monitoring the universe inside himself, kills all the Dark Hunters immediately.

Teridax's initial plan to brainwash the Matoran of Metru Nui succeeds without a hitch (so he never tries to take over the robot).

The Matoran awaken to their "savior," Teridax, and worship him. The Plan is never enacted in its final version. The Great Spirit robot dies. However, the inhabitants are unaware, and are killed by the Ignika. The Melding never occurs.

The Makuta were never created by Mata Nui

Oh, fine. I'll do it again.

5,000 years after the launch of the MU, the Vortixx of Xia began demanding higher payments for their products than most Matoran cities to afford. Normally, Icarax, Mutran and Pridak went to negotiate their prices down. Without the Makuta existing, the mountain was never created, Icarax never destroyed a lot of the island and prices remained high. Without these factors to hold them back, the Xians amassed huge wealth while keeping other lands poor and indebted to them. Any competition in the technology industry was quickly snuffed out by hired mercenaries.

Pridak never saw the wonders of Xia, and was never inspired to one day rule it by creating the League of Six Kingdoms.

Without the Makuta to create rahi, the Great Spirit Mata Nui continued to create species himself. He soon tired of this, however, and in order to focus more of his attention on exploring the universe, decided to outsource the responsibility to a species already existing within the MU. The obvious choice was the Vortixx, a species already well established in technology and power. He granted them the necessary knowledge and abilities and then turned his attention away from the universe inside his body for the next 10,000 years.

With both mechanical technology and biotechnology in their hands alone, the Vortixx empire continued to grow. Other lands became dependent on the Vortixx for their crops, their tools and their safety. Every market imaginable was monopolised by Xia, and they enjoyed supreme wealth while those in other lands worked for the Vortixx, lived in poverty and quickly died if they tried to rise above their station.

Then the collapse came. A powerful organic protodermis-eating virus being developed in a Xian lab got loose and destroyed the Vortixx working on it. other tried to contain it, but it ate them too, leaving the hollow shells of their mechanical parts littered on the ground. Now outside of the labs, it ate every living being on Xia in under a day, and the island became a ghost town.

With the Xians suddenly erased from the face of the earth, the rest of the universe fell into anarchy and chaos. Nobody had the knowledge to make tools, and at the end of that year, everyone's crops died (as they had been engineered to do. They had previously needed to buy new seed from the Xians every year. This kept them dependant on the Xians and prevented uprisings, as well as giving more wealth to the Vortixx). Some tried to go to Xia and look for the missing species and found both piles of unguarded gold and a deadly virus that ate them too. The only beigns who could survive there were Zyglak, who were granted immunity by their own brand of protodermis-destroying disease. In a very short time, every being in the MU either died or stopped working, and this killed the Great Spirit. His body shut down in the emptiness of space and drifted emptily for the rest of time. The last beings to keep on surviving were the Zyglak of Xia who ate the island's hoarded supplies and lived out their final days in extravagant debauchery before lack of air, heat and gravity finally claimed them too.

Po-Metru wins the Matoran Civil War.

The Po-Matoran execute every Ta, Ga, and Onu-Matoran they can find in Metru-Nui, as well as any Matoran of those elements that come from elsewhere immediately after the war. Any survivors of these elements end up becoming slaves for the Po-Matoran, who become the rulers of Metru-Nui. Le-Matoran and Ko-Matoran are tolerated for a short while since they helped the Po-Matoran in the civil war, but eventually the Po-Matoran, now being used to having slaves, enslaves them all. Thus begins the Empire of Stone, which begins expanding south from Metru-Nui, governed by a group of Po-Matoran and with six Toa of Stone, since Toa or Turaga of any other elements are no longer permitted to exist. Additionally, the Archives Massacre never happens and Makuta are never assigned to watch over any locations. The Order of Mata Nui attempts to banish the war leaders to the pit, only to find some are already dead and that the Po-Matoran have an empire, which immediately discovers any OoMN agents in Metru-Nui.. The agent the OoMN attempts to place in Metru-Nui is turned into a statue by the Po-Matoran. The Empire of Stone eventually expands as far down as just beyond the southern continent, where they discover the Mask of Life in Mount Valmai, though they cannot use it. Since there are no Makuta assigned to watch over any locations, the Matoran never learn to fear and distrust the Makuta. Rather, they think they are superior, so the Empire of Stone raids Destral, killing all the Makuta they can find. The Po-Matoran begin wondering - do they actually need Mata Nui? From this moment, the three virtues are changed from Unity, Duty, Destiny to Obey, Work, Expand, with the Great Spirit becoming 'Turaga Ahkmou' in the Empire of Stone.

Since there are no longer any Makuta save for a few that went into hiding, Mata Nui never falls asleep. He does reform Spherus Magna, but as he finishes, he checks on his inhabitants. What he finds is not what he expected: there no longer anything but Po-Matoran. They have exterminated every other kind of Matoran or other species, including the Rahi. If there are, they are no longer identifiable as Matoran or Rahi, since they have regressed into nothing more than empty-eyed slaves. Mata Nui is horrified - enough to shock him enough that he is vulnerable to a long-time plan of the Empire of Stone. A Po-Matoran ends up taking control over the Mata-Nui robot in this moment. Spherus Magna would never know a rulers more cruel than the Po-Matoran. When the Great Beings find their creation, they know something is off: it is not Mata Nui in control of the body. Mata Nui died long ago. The Great Beings could do nothing - at this point, the Empire of Stone had several giant robots. Their empire now extended across the stars and across dimensions.

Everybody but the Po-Matoran forgot what a question was. All they knew was to obey.

Why do homework when I can try to one-up The Lorax? :P

In the original war, the two sides, using only Matoran, really could get no advantage over the other, and led to the Archives Massacre.

In this scenario however, the Turaga, in desperation, hires mercenaries, since no Toa would want to fight Matoran, to end the war before Teridax was despatched. However, the two factions not only managed to survive the mercenaries, but made counter-offers. Soon, outsiders started to pour in to make a quick buck in the city, whose faction leaders were rich, since they lived in Metru Nui.

One of these mercenaries is a warrior from a cold land, who realises the potential in an organised Mercenary Guild. He changes his name to The Shadowed One and calls the organisation the Dark Hunters.

Po-Metru thus wins the war through more mercenaries but is heavily indebted. Indebted States ally to sieze the newly peaceful city, forming the Coalition.

With vital trade and power production disrupted by this new conflict, more and more states join the fight to end the war one way or another. The war spreads as far as the Northern Continent.

The situation becomes even more dire than expected. Mata Nui rapidly starts to die. Jovan's Team saves Mata Nui, but not before many crucial mechanism in the Mata Nui Robot stops functioning, causing many natural disasters and widespread drop in the universe-wide economy. The Brotherhood of Makuta sends Teridax to dispatch of the leaders, but his planned Archives Massacre leads to a massive breakout of dangerous Rahi as the fighters here in this timeline are not weak Matoran, but dangerous and powerful warriors. The survivors convince the Matoran that Teridax is the real enemy, and they lead the armies to Teridax's personal ship off the coast. Taken by surprise, Teridax is captured and killed.

(Note: This is assuming he Makuta had not yet evolved into Antidermis)

Miserix is shocked at the news and orders the creation of a horde. A Visorak Horde, while, giving Spiriah clearance to experiment on Skakdi to use as an intelligent army.

Vortixx agents learn of this and, having benefited from purchases of weapons, intervenes, arranging for a Vortixx to be assigned as the Queen of the Visorak, a certain Roodaka. They also sabotage the experiment, causing the Skakdi to gain extreme powers and tempers.

Spiriah is thrown out of the order, but the Horde is still formed, and the Brotherhood simply pays the Super-powered Skakdi to join them.

The Xians hire The Shadowed One's services and launch raids on the Visorak staging bases. The attacks are successful but the Scattering, as it is called, of Visorak causes a universe-wide infestation of wild Visorak, destroying countless innocent beings.

Surviving Toa are thus reorganised under a central command structure, and functions like a combination of agents and an army, with most neutral settlements under the protection of this badly-needed centralised command.

The Order of Mata Nui, galvanised by the Scattering and its subsequent destruction of many neutral villages, takes an active role in the War, obstructing Dark Hunter operations in secret.

Remaining Visorak are gathered through the use of the stone of the Visorak. The Brotherhood orders a purge of Toa disrupting their operations, and many of them die. Jovan, who had put aside Turaga retirement to stay as a Toq to protect the Southern Continent, assumes control of all remaining Toa.

The Visorak finally march northwards. The war there is crushed by the Skakdi-Visorak army there, and moves to Metru Nui.

While all this happened, Metru Nui had turned into a batten warzone, with many of its pre-war activities and functions transplanted to Xia, Artakha, or the Voya Nui region. The Turaga of Metru Nui was deposed, and The Shadowed One ruled through a puppet, manipulating the war to profit his organisation. Hearing of the incoming Brotherhood Incursion, he sought help from Karzahni, convincing him his realm was threatened. With Manas crabs now in his army, The Shadowed One manipulated the mercenary groups he was indirectly controlling and indirectly brought them into an alliance to oppose the Brotherhood Horde. Xia also knows that if the Brotherhood wins, that means more control, and less opportunity for shady business, which means a loss of revenue for the island. Therefore, they provide much help, under the table, so to speak, to the Dark Hunters.

The Shadowed One, directly or indirectly, now controls half the combatant states, the Dark Hunters, Karzahni and Xian favour.

The two sides clash on a titanic battle at the northerm edge of the Northern Continent. Roodaka shows her true colours and turns the Visorak portion of the Horde against the Brotherhood. The Allies are victorious and Miserix is forced to pull back to Destral and the Southern Continent.

Jovan takes the opportunity to strike. Spiriah, having defected to the Toa, leads the Toa into Destral and they storm the fortress. With Brotherhood troops in disarray from the previous loss. they take the island surprisingly easy, but nonetheless sustain heavy losses. Jovan defeats Miserix and kills the scientists responsible for what the Visorak did to the Matoran throughout the MU, including Mutran and Chirox. He asks for a new leader, and despite his attempt to gain favour, Spiriah is not chosen by either Jovan or the Makuta. Instead, Icarax is selected as Leader, Krika as Adjudicator, with Antroz as Warleader.

Nonetheless, the Brotherhood is fractured by this, with many siding with Miserix. They seize him and escape.

Thus, at the end of more than three hundred years of war, Metru Nui is a wasteland, Artakha and Xia are the new powerhouses, Voya Nui, once barren, is now a strong power, and three alliances are left:

Dark Hunters, with Xia secretly siding with them, Karzahni, The Visorak, and half of the states in the war unknowingly being puppeted;

The remaining Toa and Icarax's New Brotherhood;

Miserix's Loyalists;

And remaining warlords.

The Order of Mata Nui orders a hit on The Shadowed One. He is wounded badly, but survives. Before Darkness purges The Shadowed One, he puts all administrative duty and power to Ancient, while asking that he tutor Lariska, a new but promising recruit, to one day take over the organisation if needed.

The Order exposes itself to Jovan and Icarax. They offer help in hunting down Miserix and cutting off the Dark Hunter Empire. The two, while suspicious, agrees tothe aid.

The New Brotherhood rallies its loyal soldiers and hold its position in the western end of the Southern Continent.

Meanwhile, Miserix's loyalists takeover the Southern Islands and harnesses it's dangerous wildlife to strike at the Hunters. The sudden surge in resistance halts the Hunter advance.

Knowing that Metru Nui is no longer safe, Lariska scouts out for a suitable secret base. She discovers Odina, and Ancients gives her the go-ahead to build the base.

The Brotherhood learns to build powerful Rahkshi suits, comparable to those in the prime universe.

The Order-Toa-Brotherhood alliance occupies Artakha, despite Helryx's objections that it is not a strategically sound action, and launches a surprise attack at Metru Nui from the West.

Ancient leads the defence, but the new Rahkshi, in the past used as cannon fodder and manual haulers only, now storm the city. Ancient escapes but is betrayed by Lariska, who is revealed as an Order member. However, Darkness wrests control of the Dark Hunter Empire away and in the ensuing power struggle, the fragile indirect control over the Hunter's puppets is lost. Miserix forcefully absorbs many of the disparate factions and is poised to strike.

The Mata Nui robot, however, is failing. This time, however, Mata Nui now knows the cause of his sickness. He tells Helryx to prepare as many people to prepare for impending massive destruction.

Miserix launches a massive invasion of Zyglak. Icarax attempts to overthrow the tripartite but Kojol, under Helryx's orders, destroys him with a virus. Lesovikk is located, and he and Antroz die holding back the invasionSpheruenough for Helryx and Jovan to seal as many people as possible underground. Jovan is forced to leave due to Miserix hunting the civilians hiding underground and duels Miserix. Miserix dies just as the Cataclysm strikes. Jovan is killed by the splitting continents.

It is revealed to Helryx that Mata Nui, upon his first brush with death, had observed events unfold inside his body. He rushed to finish his work, and, ahead of schedule by many millennia, flies back to Spherus Magna. Following his orders, Helryx and Krika hook the robot directly to the Ignika. With a burst of energy, he completes his job on Bara Magna when it normally would require two robots.(check the wiki, it's true)

The Cataclysm was thus Mata Nui's literal fall into the ground of Spherus Magna.

On his dying breath, he tells Helryx to protect the inhabitants of the MU in a way better than he did. Jovan is found to be almost dead. He instructs his student, Lhikan, to follow Helryx's orders, and dies.

The MU inhabitants empty out onto Spherus Magna, apprehensive, yet hopeful, for a better future.

WOW! I feel the urge to write an Epic on this. :P

The Barraki did not lose the war with the Brotherhood.

Edit: Arghhhh! Ninja's

Toa Canisters become commonplace, with Xia kidnapping the Matoran to give them his designs. Warlords gain the ability to call in multiple, simultaneous deep strikes on opponents. Warfare is revolutionised, and surrpunding collateral damage is reduced as they would simply canister to a target, thus armies being ambushed was not an issue.

The League of Six Kingdoms, however, used large numbers of soldiers to counter this. Whole others began using smaller, well-traines forces, large armies could easily swamp these specialists, or blast them out of the sky.

The League conquered Metru Nui before the Makuta could do anything, and became the rulers of the MU. However, infighting caused their empirebto fracture. With no enemies left, they made their own: each other.

The Brotherhood frantically searched for a way to stop them. They soon developed Exo Toa, Fohrok(fake Bohrok) and powerful Rahkshi to counter them. They even had to run risky experiments on themselves to turn into Antidermis to evade being overrun in battle. A messy war started, but Teridax learned of the Mata Nui Robot's true state as a robot. Volunteering to lead a strike at Pridak's HQ of Metru Nui, he slipped away. Finding the control rooms he...

Barricaded it and sealed them off. For he was never corrupted in this world, and vowed that such a secret could not fall in any of the corrupted leader's hands.

But Pridak, noticing the Makuta's suuden disappearance, followed. Teridax slays him in single combat.

The battle is over by now, with nothing but victorious Brotherhood troops. Teridax hides the secret of the MU robot.

Eventually, using both massive armies and many Toa Canisters(obtained by annexing Xia and many willing Toa volunteers to the army) the League is crushed.

However, Xian separatists stow the Matoran inventor away and he creates under, the watchful eyes of his captors and their instruction, an Antidermis-killing virus. The inventor is forced to deploy the virus. Half of the Makuta die in painful ways, including Miserix, before the Vortixx responsible are captured and executed. Teridax becomes the new leader.

However, Xian separatists rise up and turn the Brotherhood's war machines on them. Fortunately for the Brotherhood, Toa with elemental powers undeterred by this suuden uptising quash the Vortixx rebels. They try to take control of the MU robot but Teridax's barricades and traps stop them. Their plan is crushed. A new Vortixx leader is elected, Roodaka.

The virus is still on the lose, and Teridax volunteers to absorb it all and trap it inside of him, before falling into Energized Protodermis.

Teridax is seemingly disintegrated, but he was transformed; into a spirit, waiting for his last important act.

Teridax is eventually called to his destiny: that of aiding Mata Nui in reforming Spherus Magna.

The Skrall, having defeated the Glatorian, who were without Mata Nui's help, attempt to attack the new MU inhabitants who just vacated the robot. Of note is the fact that bigger Toa Canisters are used as troop transports in the war against the Skrall.

The Barraki won the rebellion against Mata Nui.

The Barraki learned in advance of Teridax's surprise assault, and with time to prepare, they defeated the Makuta's force, and went on to spread and secure their control over the entire Matoran Universe. They banned the worship of Mata Nui and changed his three virtues to their own. The final place they conquered was Metru Nui, where they tore down the Great Temple right to its foundations. All six Barraki were present with front row seat as the explosives went off and the last step in their rebellion was completed. Unfortunately, this disturbed the giant marine rahi that lived underneath it. The massive beast leapt out of the water and consumed them all, ending their reign right there, and providing a lesson to anyone in the universe who might think about messing with their pseudo-deity.

The Barraki could no mount a more effective coup because this was all before the location of Tren Krom's island was discovered by Mutran, so nobody knew what Mata Nui's true nature was or how he might be vulnerable.

The viruses that The Shadowed One discovered on Xia were discovered earlier, and actually did something.

After Kojol was assassinated, a Vortixx discovered the viruses he had delivered to Xia. The viruses were studied in a lab, but due to incomplete containment, they got loose and began to spread like a plague across Xia.

The Brotherhood of Makuta quickly realized what had happened and offered to help search for a cure... for a price. In reality, they already had an antivirus and essentially held Xia hostage. Desperate to save their island, and more importantly, their workforce, Xia's rulers paid the tremendous fee for the antivirus. Xia was cured, but now effectively owned by the Brotherhood.

However, the rumor quickly spread that the Makuta had deliberately created the virus to take over Xia. Their PR began to fall, and many, especially Xians, began to regard them as enemies. There was still no evidence of their crimes, but a rift began forming between Toa and Makuta.

Teridax's Toa Hagah began investigating their employer much earlier than in the prime universe. They discovered that the Makuta had stolen a legendary mask from Artakha and made plans to rebel and steal it back, then use it as a symbol to rally the rest of the Toa against the Makuta. The raid was successful, but afterwards Norik and Iruini were captured, taken to Xia and mutated into Rahaga by Roodaka, one of the Makuta's most prestigious servants.

The remaining Toa Hagah fled with the mask to Metru Nui, hoping Teridax would not expect them to return to his territory. In response the Brotherhood hired the Dark Hunters to begin capture and extermination of Toa, especially Toa of Iron. Toa Zaria killed a Dark Hunter in self defense and quickly became a famed hero, becoming leader of a new Toa Team. He lead his team to Metru Nui in an attempt to destroy Teridax's hold over it and turn it into a stronghold for the Toa Resistance. There he met the Hagah, who gave his team the Mask of Light to keep, in case the Makuta were to come after them.

The Makuta did indeed come after the Hagah, but indirectly, by instructing the Dark Hunters to surround the city and capture them. Meanwhile, Teridax took control of Dume's body to directly assert power over Metru Nui. Dume/Teridax announced that the Toa Hagah were thieves and Zaria's team their accomplices, and ordered the Vahki to capture them. The Toa in Metru Nui began fighting a war on two fronts, destroying Vakhi and keeping the Dark Hunters out. Kualus released the Rahi from the Archives, letting them run loose in the city.

Toa elsewhere quickly came to Metru Nui's aid, and the Toa/Makuta war began. Metru Nui turned into an outright war zone, with Matoran from all Metru aiding the Toa by constructing weapons. The Shadowed One soon declared that the situation was unwinnable with his troops alone and threatened to withdraw the Hunters if Teridax did not provide them backup. Teridax sent a navy from Xia armed to the toes, followed by the Visorak horde with Roodaka as its queen and Sidorak as viceroy.

But the Toa continued holding out, and the frantic work of the Matoran kept Mata Nui alive. Teridax/Dume revealed his true colors and absorbed a whole host of Visorak to take on a new, huge form, and summoned the other Makuta to take the city or die trying.

In the chaos of the ensuing battle, the Mask of Light ended up in the hands of two Ta-Matoran, Jala and Takua. They fled across Metru Nui trying to escape the battle, but ended up surrounded by Rahkshi. Jala was killed and Takua unmasked, so he put on the Avohkii and was transformed into the Toa of Light.

With Toa Takua on their side, the war quickly began to tip in Metru Nui's favor. The Makuta themselves withdrew after their first and only battle, then stopped paying the Dark Hunters to fight, resulting in their gradual withdrawl. Xians and Visorak continued attacking, but eventually were forced to surrender after Roodaka's death by the hands of a one-eyed Rahi. Metru Nui accepted and offered them sanctuary from the Makuta in their city.

Teridax, trying to salvage his Plan, formally created a peace treaty with Metru Nui. But in reality, he sent the Brotherhood to the homeland of the Av-Matoran and had them attack, trapping them in Matoran Spheres. With Karda Nui in jeopardy due to the unconsciousness of the Av-Matoran, Teridax was able to release the Great Virus and put Mata Nui to sleep. The Great Cataclysm occurred, and Voya Nui was blasted into outer space, and the Ignika with it. Oops. Air began escaping from the Southern Continent's dome, but Mata Nui's repair abilities managed to patch the hole and connect Voya Nui to the robot's exterior via a Cord. Everyone and everything on Voya Nui or in the Pit died.

Then the Toa Mata are launched, and honestly I have no idea what happens from there.

Hmm. That's an intersting scenario, though I should point out that no Av-Matoran were inhabiting Karda Nui before the GC happened. Before that, the energy storms were raging full time and would have destroyed anything living there. The Av-Matoran were living in a system of caves beneath the Southern Continent, and removing them from there would not have endangered Mata Nui's health.

In a universe where the Toa Mata reached Mata Nui soon after the Great Cataclysm, they met with the Toa Metru who were scouting the place out as a new home for Metru Nui's Matoran. Since they had not been stuck in their canisters for a thousand years, the Mata remembered their destiny to awaken Mata Nui in case he ever fell asleep. They persuaded the Metru that the Matoran should not be evacuated from Metru Nui despite the dangers and the damage the city had suffered. They needed to return and begin to rebuild while the Mata went south to re-awaken the Great Spirit. The two teams joined forces and returned to the city of legends to find that it was in the early stages of being colonised by Visorak (with the aid of an already experienced team of Toa, it didn't take the Metru nearly so long to get back, and they didn't waste all that time wandering around Mata Nui).

Also thanks to the Mata's power and experience, Vaka wasn't under nearly so much pressure to be a good leader for the Toa Metru, and wasn't bearing the weight of a city on his shoulders. Both teams quickly learned to work well together, learning from and maximising each others' strengths while covering each others' weak spots. They met up with the Rahaga, rescued Dume and with their knowledge they were able to mount a sneak attack on the coliseum befoer the Visorak could really get entrenched there. They defeated Sidorak and Roodaka and stole the Heart of the Visorak (which had been used to summon the horde to Metru Nui) and spirited it away to Mata Nui, where it was activated. They then sealed all of the paths back to Metru Nui, trapping the horde on a deserted island outside of the Matoran Universe. On the journey, they also came across the bohrok nest, and accidentally awakened the creatures, who proceeded to destroy the visorak.

Wit the horde dealt with, the 12 Toa restarted Metru Nui's powergenerator and used its vast energies rather than their own to awaken the city's Matoran (this was much easier since they hadn't been asleep and getting progressively weaker for months on end, only two weeks). Along with the Toa Metru, the Matoran began restoring the city after the damage it had suffered during the GC, while the Toa Mata went south towards Karda Nui. They were met part way by Helryx of the Order of Mata Nui, who presented them with the scroll of preparations for Mata Nui's awakening, and was greatly surprised when they told her that they had already accomplished half of the items on the list. She assured them that her agents would be able to take care of the remaining tasks and then showed them the way to Karda Nui.

Meanwhile, the Brotherhood of Makuta had not heard from Teridax or the Visorak and became worried that their plan was failing. Antroz assumed temporary command and lead Vamprah, Chirox, Gorast, Krika, Bitil, Mutran and Icarax to Metru Nui to discover what had happened. They found the Toa Metru and that they had imprisoned Teridax. Wanting the plan to continue, they decided to kill the Toa and use their dead bodies to break open Teridax's prison.

However, just as they began to engage the Toa in battle, the Toa Mata achieved their destiny and reawakened the Great Spirit. Having learned the cost of ignoring his insides, Mata Nui immediately sought out the cause of his slumber and identified the Makuta. He destroyed all of them in an instant, and continued to keep a close eye on others within his universe as he continued his mission throughout the galaxy.

The Bohrok-Kal are successful in awakening the Bahrag.

Toa Mata are disbanded and they go their own separate ways and form their own Toa Teams elsewhere in the Matoran Universe. Toa Mata are now just simply known as "Fail Toa Team" by the Matoran and Turaga. This being said the Bohrok are then able to take over the island of Mata Nui, forcing the remaining surviving inhabitants to relocate to Metru Nui earlier then in storyline. Takua never becomes a Toa of Light, thus Toas of Light never existed in the Matoran Universe. The tunnel that connected Mata Nui to Metru Nui is purposely flooded by the Matoran so that Bohrok won't be able to invade Metru Nui.

Eventually the island of Mata Nui becomes a barren wasteland that just now known as "Bohrok Island".

The Matoran Civil War gets more violent and gruesome, to the point that it lasts for 20 years, resulting in the Matoran of Metru Nui abandoned Mata Nui and become Atheist.

Errm... canonically, the Matoran Civil War lasted 400 years. So I guess a 20 year war looks like this:

A relatively minor conflict does not cause a complete halt to work in Metru Nui, so the Great Spirit's health never deteriorates, and Jovan's team is never required to avert the Great Disruption. Jovan never becomes the Turaga of Voya Nui.

Makuta Miserix never feels the need to intervene in the conflict, so the archives massacre never happens, the Makuta are not assigned regions of the universe to watch over and Teridax does not become the Makuta of Metru Nui.

As a part of the Makuta not taking a larger role in overseeing the universe, Mutran never visits Tern Krom and Teridax never gets the knowledge that Mata Nui is a giant robot. He is discontent with his station and how much more thanks Mata Nui gets for everything he does, but cannot see any way to change that, so just keeps on as a rahi-maker.

The Makuta never turn evil and everybody lives happily ever after.

The Iron tribe begins to rise faster and faster in technological development, and forms strong trade alliances with the Rock and Ice tribes, which supply them with raw material. The next most industrial tribe, the Fire tribe, becomes their rival, and gains the support of the Earth and Water tribes. The Sand and Jungle tribes do not take sides.

In an attempt to balance the power of the various tribes, the Great Beings create several Element Lords, one for each tribe. But just after that, protodermis is discovered in Ice tribe territory. Knowing that the Iron tribe will never willingly share it with them, the Fire tribe declares war and attacks.

The Core War divides Spherus Magna into two factions, with the Sand and Jungle tribes caught in the middle. Both of those tribes divide into multiple clans, which each choose a side of the war and turn on their former allies.

The Iron tribe quickly discovers the power of protodermis and weaponizes it, giving them a major advantage until the Fire tribe finds their own protodermis sources.

Unlike in the main universe, war technology has advanced far beyond swords and armor, and battles are fought with the aid of armored vehicles and even primitive aircraft. The Great Beings, overeager to end the war, release a swarm of shapeshifting robots designed to disguise themselves as soldiers, then sabotage any and all implements of war. Unfortunately, they interpret their programming far too liberally, and begin to dismantle ALL technology and infrastructure, even that which is mainly used peacefully. Meanwhile, protodermis continues to be drained, and the planet grows increasingly unstable.

In desperation, the Great Beings accelerate their plans for a giant robot containing an artificial world, which they name Mata Nui. It is launched just before Spherus Magna shatters, and is programmed to eventually repair the planet.

The Shattering leaves most of the warring clans of the former Sand and Jungle tribes on Bota Magna, where they gradually stake out stable territories for themselves and establish some semblance of peace.

Bara Magna, however, is split north-south between the Iron tribe and their allies in the north, and the Fire tribe and theirs in the south. Thanks to the saboteur robots, technology continues to regress, eventually causing the abandoning of powered vehicles and ranged weapons (other than Thornax launchers.)

Faced with limited resources and hardly any means to continue fighting, the two sides agree to an unwritten truce. They take to settling disputes via old-fashioned arena combat, and eventually agree formally never to raise armies.

After 100000 years of isolation, Bara Magna is visited by a stranger called Mata Nui. Mata Nui witnesses an arena battle where the Ice warrior Strakk attempts to kill the Fire warrior Ackar and prevents the murder, causing Strakk's exile. As a result Mata Nui quickly becomes a friend of the South and an enemy of the North.

He first goes to Tajun to aid the Water tribe, at their request, but while he is there a splinter group from the Ice tribe demands that the city hand him over or be destroyed. The Tajunites refuse, and Mata Nui takes refuge in a cave under the city during the attack. Afterwards, he travels with a Water Agori and a warrior from each of the southern tribes to the main village of the Earth Tribe to seek unification of the South against the North's attacks, and grants elemental powers to a few warriors.

However, a Rock tribe spy abducts two Tajunites who traveled with Mata Nui and takes them to Roxtus. Mata Nui follows on a rescue mission, but it turns out to be a trap: as soon as he arrives, the Ice and Iron tribe armies appear and cut off his escape. Mata Nui stalls until the armies of the southern tribes arrive.

Thanks to their new powers, the southern army wins the battle, occupying Roxtus and forcing the Iron and Ice tribes to retreat. Mata Nui then continues north to activate the Valley of the Maze and power the prototype giant robot.

But no sooner does he do so than the other giant robot, controlled by Makuta Teridax, lands on Bara Magna, and the two engage in battle. The six tribes unite against the armies sent out by Teridax, and Mata Nui manages to simultaneously kill the Makuta and reform the planet with the two robots' combined power.

Mata Nui leaves the prototype robot, and the inhabitants of the other robot exit onto the new Spherus Magna. However, they are biomechanical, and a certain fleet of robots decides that they are dangerous technology that must be destroyed...

Just for fun, the Xians of Xia invented communism in the Bionicle universe, shortly before the Great Cataclysm. This meant that all weapons were to be sold to all species for the same price, and that all workers, regardless of gender, would be paid the same regardless of how much work they did.

Because wages were the same, employers on Xia resorted to punishments and intimidation to get their workers to produce. This led to riots, with the workers using the weapons they built against their tyrannical overlords. Roodaka, upstanding Vortixx who craved power, used this opportunity to seize power and rule the entire island, enjoying the splendor of her new royal rule and plotting future and more dangerous conquests.

Meanwhile, during the short period when communism was successful, weapons were cheap and easy to obtain, so most Matoran and Toa owned at least one. This meant that weapons from other suppliers were highly valued and that Xian weapons could not be sold due to market saturation. This meant that the Xians were forced to invent even more powerful weapons, including a giant cannon that could be operated by four Matoran. Still, even this could not save the Xian factories, so they resorted to designing ships and transport as well, including common hovercraft and other technologies.

Roodaka did not join the Dark Hunters, so Nidhiki was never transformed - he remained a Toa. As the Shadowed One could not trust him, he sent Lariska to Metru Nui instead. Her superior fighting skills captured and defeated all of the Toa Metru.

Meanwhile, without the assistance of Roodaka, Norik and his team of Toa roundly defeated the Visorak horde. Upon doing so, they rushed to Metru Nui just in time to save the Toa Metru from certain death. However, they were too late to stop Makuta from taking over the universe, but not too late to protocage him like in the orginal story. With six Toa to guard the Matoran and no enemy on the horizon, the twelve Toa and Turaga Lhikan were able to get the Matoran out of their canisters before they lost their memory. Desperate to stop the time-delayed effect, Ga-Matoran and Ko-Matoran scientists teamed up to find a cure. They succeeded.

The Toa Mata arrived safely in Metru Nui. Roodaka, seeing that Makuta was out of the picture, saw an opportunity to seize power and attacked Metru Nui. Meanwhile, the Makuta were desperate to prevent Mata Nui from awakening too early, so they forged an alliance with the Xians. The Xians unleashed "TSO's" viruses on the island, to devastating effect. It took hundreds of years to repair the damage. After that, the Makuta turned on the Xians and destroyed them.

One of the Toa Hagah sacrificed themselves to prevent Mata Nui from dying. After the long war with the Xians and the Brotherhood, the Toa Mata completed the tasks on the scroll in the midst of the chaos and made it to Karda Nui. Mata Nui was awakened, with the Makuta still protocaged.

Shortly after Mata Nui leaves Spherus Magna, Helryx, Brutaka, and Trinuma are all murdered by Tobduk.

The remainder of the Hand of Artakha hunts Tobduk down in revenge. Afterwards, they realize their disorderly organization was partially responsible for Helryx's death, and reform themselves to be more disciplined and responsible. They eventually turn into a kind of elite force responsible for solving problems too great for Toa. Their first major mission was to solve the problem of the Zyglak after the death of the First Toa Team. After a minor war, the Zyglak offenders are exiled to a penal colony on an uninhabited island in the far south, which later becomes known as Zyglak.

The Brotherhood of Makuta is never formed, since Mata Nui saw no need for a second major order-maintaining organization. Instead, just a couple dozen Makuta are made, and several join the Hand of Artakha. Others become more unofficial aides to the the Hand and the Toa.

As the Hand grows, six Houses begin to form within it, respectively headed by Pridak, Kalmah, Takadox, Ehlek, Mantax and Carapar. These houses become quite competitive, fighting each other for dominance and trying to absorb unaffiliated members. This troubles Artakha and the other leaders of the Hand, as they fear the organization will collapse into chaos. So each House is assigned a region of the universe to look after, while remaining accountable to the higher levels of the Hand. This turns out to be a poor decision, as territories of their own only make the Houses hungrier to expand. They begin expanding at first by the consent of locals, then by military force. The borders of the Houses expand until they meet, and the War of the Six Houses begins.

Takadox's Blue House absorbs Carapar's Yellow House in the early days of the war, but this conglomerate is soon attacked by Kalmah's Red House and Ehlek's Green House, which more or less work together, while Pridak's White House and Mantax's Black House become locked in battle with one another. The White House begins to quickly gain strength, but this rise abruptly ends when a group of assassins, mercenaries and spies formed by the Black House crush it from within. Pridak is taken prisoner and the mercenary organization, which becomes known as the Dark Hunters, is set loose on the Blue House.

In response to the world war, the Hand forms a special forces army known as the Fist, whose sole mission is to end the war by any means necessary, under the leadership of Makuta Teridax. Facing impending defeat, Takadox makes a covert deal with the Fist, promising to submit to rule by the Hand in return for aid against the Black, Green and Red Houses. The combination of the Blue House and the Fist soon forces the Red House to withdraw, and hires Dark Hunters to attack the Green House in order to turn the Green and Black Houses against each other. After a short while, the Houses are weak enough for the Fist to reclaim control. All six House leaders are imprisoned, but Takadox is eventually released to live in exile on the Southern Continent. Teridax gains a prominent role in the Hand after the Fist's dissolution.

It is discovered by the Hand that the War of the Six Houses put Mata Nui's health in critical condition. A Toa of Magnetism named Jovan leads a team to find and use the Mask of Life, saving Mata Nui.

Teridax sends his trusted operative Makuta Antroz to find the legendary Tren Krom. Antroz returns with knowledge of the universe that sparks Teridax's plan to take over from Mata Nui. However, under the watchful eye of the Hand he cannot set his plan into motion, so he withdraws to a desolate island called Destral with a few allies to begin preparations. The first step is to create an army which cannot be traced to him, specifically, a horde of Visorak rahi.

However, the Hand grows suspicious of Teridax's actions, and assigns a secret group to investigate him. Their observations are recorded and become known as the Makoki Stone. It is given to a fairly obscure Toa Tower to guard, technically outside the Hand's direct control and therefore, hopefully, beyond Teridax's reach. However, the Dark Hunters learn of the Makoki Stone and steal it.

The leader of the Dark Hunters, called the Shadowed One, tries to use the Makoki Stone as a bargaining chip for establishing a base in Metru Nui, threatening the destruction of both stone and city. Nevertheless, the Hand refuses, and Hunters release the Kanohi Dragon upon Metru Nui. A team of Toa called the Mangai subdue it.

Eventually the Shadowed One deciphers the Makoki Stone's contents, and approaches Teridax with a deal: to release the encryption for the Stone to him in exchange for an alliance against the Hand. The two arrange to make it seem as though Teridax refused and was killed by the Shadowed One, whereas in actuality they begin working together. They plan a double attack on Metru Nui: first the Dark Hunters occupy the city and barricade the Toa Mangai in the Coliseum, then when reinforcements from the Hand arrive the Visorak are set loose on the city, while the Dark Hunters slip away.

However, Teridax betrayed the Shadowed One: when the Visorak were sent into the city, they turned on the Dark Hunters, allowing the Hand to easily force both to withdraw. In the battle Teridax faked his death once again, this time to mislead the Shadowed One. He used his antidermis form, unknown to the Dark Hunters, to take control of Turaga Dume during the confusion of the fighting. After the battle "Dume" declares that keeping Metru Nui's borders open was what led to the violence, and seals the city off. The Visorak are left in the control of the Steltian Sidorak and the Vortixx Roodaka, both servants of Teridax with plausible motives to seek revenge against the Dark Hunters.

And so the Plan begins to unfold, more or less along the canon from here on out.

Bonus section: continuation of this:

But in reality...

Following the peace treaty with Metru Nui, the Makuta designed a hybrid Kraata/Krana and put them to use awakening the Bohrok. Bohrok controlled by Kraatana lead the rest of the swarm not up on to Mata Nui's exterior, like they were supposed to, but through Mangaia and into the Metru Nui dome, where they attack the foundations of the city. Metru Nui's Toa team eventually manages to collect the Krana necessary to travel up into Mangaia and shut down the swarm, but it's too late: the damage causes Mata Nui to fall asleep and the Great Cataclysm to occur. The center of the Northern Continent is blasted through Mata Nui's chest and into not the sea of Aqua Magna, but outer space. Mata Nui's healing capabilities seal the hole left and connect the space island to Mata Nui with a stone cord. Incredibly, the power of the Kanohi Ignika hidden there on what is now called Voya Nui maintains the atmosphere, allowing most of the island's inhabitants to survive.

The Toa Mata are launched and travel through space in their canisters to Mata Nui's face, then pass through it and arrive at Metru Nui. They complete some of the tasks required for Mata Nui's revival, but Mata Nui begins dying. A Kanohi Elda is forged for them, and they and Toa Takua follow its lead to the Southern Continent, where they are shocked by the realization that it is above the sky.

They return to Metru Nui and the Vortixx there build for them a craft capable of passing through Mata Nui's face and through the void beyond.

The passengers are the Toa Mata, Takua and a crew of Matoran and Vortixx. They fly through space and follow the Elda's direction to Voya Nui, which they are shocked to discover is vegetated and populated. They land on Voya Nui and the seven Toa find their way to the Mask of Life, overcoming its defenses and defeating its guardian.

But when Takua tries to take the mask, it flies away into space at high speed, and the atmosphere quickly begins to disappear. The inhabitants of Voya Nui take shelter underground, while the spacecraft and its crew and passengers chase the Ignika. By creating hostile, flying monsters out of protodites that can survive in space, the Ignika manipulates the spacecraft's crew into firing on the Cord, destroying it. The Ignika dives under Voya Nui and the spacecraft follows, arriving in Karda Nui while Voya Nui returns to its original position.

The Ignika then allows Takua to take it and uses his sacrifice to save Mata Nui. The Toa Mata enter the Codrex, awaken Mata Nui and escape the Energy Storm in the spacecraft. But when they return to Metru Nui, they get a nasty surprise...

The Toa Metru are on their way to battle Teridax after he reveals himself. Vakama has all nine of the Great Disks with him, but he fails to make the connection that he could make a mask out of them. Instead, he tries to use them as weapons. To the Toa Metru's dismay, the energy beam plan doesn't work nearly as well against Teridax as it did against the Morbuzakh. So in a last-ditch effort, Vakama shoots them all at Teridax. Unfortunately, enlarging, regenerating, and reconstituting Teridax at random only serves to strengthen the Makuta, and by this point, freezing or weakening him wouldn't do enough to bring him down, and teleporting him somewhere else for some other poor souls to deal with doesn't sit well with the Toa. So Vakama fires those last three around Teridax to distract him, and the Toa try to assault him with their powers and create a Toa Seal. It seems to work for a brief instant, but Teridax shrugs it off and kills the Toa Metru. He spares Lhikan, though, albeit Silenced, for the sole purpose of being able to gloat over his victory, knowing Lhikan has no more power to try to stop him. Eventually the Matoran of Metru Nui wake up, and Teridax's plan to be seen as their savior succeeds.

When they get there, they find that the Piraka have already enslaved the Toa Nuva and Matoran reistence team. The Piraka reach the Mask of Life first, but are transformed into its guardians like with Vezon. The Toa Inika fight Vezon and the rest of the Piraka for the mask but still end up winning.

Tuyet leaves the ruins of her Empire and arrives in Metru Nui to find a universe at war. Realizing she could never rule this universe if the Makuta won, she pledged herself to help Helryx, who warily allows her. Tuyet uses a false name, thanks to Takanuva's warning that she had been defeated long ago in this universe.

Tuyet leads an attack on Destral and finds the basement full of Tridax's Shadow Takanuvas. Naturally, she immediately frees these Takanuvas and uses them to obliterate the Makuta forces on Destral, then capture Tridax and interrogate him.

Tridax reveals the device used to transport Destral: a machine stolen from Artakha which vastly amplifies the power of any Kanohi. After killing Tridax, Tuyet uses the Kanohi amplifier to transport her army into Karda Nui using the Olmak, then amplifies one of the Takanuvas' Avohkiis to slay all the Makuta there.

The Toa Nuva are shocked, but admit that Tuyet's army has saved them, and continue the final stages of their mission. Vican discovers the Klakk's power and, with the help of the Av-Matoran, tricks the Takanuvas into exposing themselves to it and regaining their light.

As the energy storm begins, Tuyet offers to transport the Toa and Av-Matoran to safety with the amplified Olmak. However, she really takes them to Destral, where she explains to all of them her plan to unite the universe's Toa in a role of not only protectors but rulers, who would take a more active role in preventing evil from ever rising. With some pressure from the Av-Matoran, who mainly feel like this would have been nice in light of recent events, the Toa Confederation is formed.

The Toa Confederation arrives in Metru Nui just in time... to hear Teridax's announcement that the universe is now his. Helryx turns to Tuyet for help, hoping that she could manage another miracle. Tuyet gives Helryx the mask amplifier and a Great Komau, and Helryx uses them to mind control Teridax himself. She is able to prevent him from acting, but no more. A mental siege between the two lasts hours until Helryx realizes she has no choice but to draw extra power from the only source available: her own Toa power. Drawing upon this, she banishes Teridax's essence into the void and becomes a Turaga in the process.

But the universe is doomed anyway, for with no Great Spirit it will perish. So a Kanohi Elda is forged, and with the amplifier it is used to track down Mata Nui. Once Mata Nui is located, Tuyet and the Toa Confederation go through an Olmak portal to find him... and find themselves on another world. The Elda leads them to a volcano village full of strange organic beings who speak a different language.

Meanwhile, after the arena match Mata Nui hears of beings in Vulcanus who seem to be from another world, and goes to meet them. He is shocked to see real Toa, and acts as a translator between them and the Bara Magnans. They explain to him that Teridax was defeated, but the universe is doomed. He agrees to be transported back, but first a being called Kiina begs them to take her with them, which they do.

Once back inside his own universe, Mata Nui puts on an amplified Iden and reassumes control of it. Tuyet is kind of disappointed because meeting Mata Nui lowered her optimism of ever taking his place as ruler. So before Mata Nui leaves the system to continue his survey of worlds, Tuyet goes through a portal back to Bara Magna and, with the Nui Stone, monopolizes all fresh water on the planet, forcing all the tribes to submit to her rule, which is more peaceful than in the Empire since no one else is really a threat to her. And so, the Matoran Universe is safe, Mata Nui learned his lesson and the people of Bara Magna at least have the basic necessities of life.

If the OOMN agent on Mata Nui hadn't been killed.

Ok, so Tanma was taken to Le-Metru during the Time Slip, while Takua remained with the Av-Matoran. Fast-forward to the time of the Turaga's council in Tales of the Masks. Tahu, lava-surfing before the Kolhii match on Ta-Koro's new field, notices a strange totem resting in a lava tube. He takes it with him and shows it to Pohatu during the game, who surprises him by saying it is of Po-Matoran craftsmanship, and that there is something inside it.

After the match Pohatu opens the totem and the Kanohi inside is revealed, casting a beam of light on two Matoran who were standing nearby: the chronicler Hahli and the Captain of the Guard Jaller. The Turaga notice and proclaim those two to be the heralds of the Toa of Light.

Preparations are made to gather the six Toa to search with the heralds for the Toa of Light. But shortly after Pohatu leaves the village to spread the word, the Guard spots three Rahkshi closing in on the village. Tahu and Gali attempt to fight them off, to buy the heralds time to flee to Onu-Koro. The Rahkshi overpower the Toa, but soon determine that the Mask of Light they seek is no longer in the village and retreat.

Arriving in Onu-Koro, the Heralds inform the Onu-Matoran of recent events, as Pohatu had not yet reached them. The Mask of Light's beam points them towards Le-Koro, and Toa Onua offers to accompany them. But while in the tunnels on the way there, Hahli is briefly separated from Jaller and Onua and is confronted by a vision of Makuta. Makuta tells her that the Mask of Light is rightfully his, and that if she does not surrender it to the Rahkshi he will kill Jaller. Then Hahli finds her companions again and they resume their journey.

Having heard the news of the Mask of Light, the Le-Matoran celebrate the heralds' arrival. But their joy is interrupted by Toa Lewa, who arrives with the news that Ta-Koro has been destroyed. Moments afterwards, the Rahkshi arrive and target the Heralds. Lewa and Onua try to defend them and succeed in thwarting two Rahkshi, using a cyclone to blast away the Lerahk and trapping the Panrahk in soft earth. But the Guurahk evades the Toa.

The heralds are aided by two Gukko riders, Kongu and Tanma, who attempt to fly them to safety. But the Guurahk spots them trying to escape and pursues. The Matoran and birds manage to fly into a large, hollow tree trunk and hide there for a few moments. Still worried about what Makuta said, Hahli asks Jaller to give up the mask to the Rahkshi. The other Matoran are shocked, and before they can discuss further the Guurahk discovers them, forcing them to flee.

Eventually they manage to trick the Guurahk into diving into an ice-covered lake in Ko-Wahi, where it passes out. Jaller demands to know why Hahli wanted to surrender the mask, but she refuses to say. Believing she is acting out of cowardice, Jaller announces he will continue the search with Tanma, and the two fly off. Kongu flies Hahli to Ga-Koro.

Jaller finds that the mask's directions have become erratic and confusing while he is flies with Tanma. They decide to stop in Po-Wahi while they figure out where to go next.

Meanwhile, shortly after Kongu drops Hahli off in Ga-Koro, a huge boat made of ice arrives at its dock with the entire population of Ta-Koro. Also on the boat are Tahu, Gali, and its creator Kopaka. Gali asks Hahli why she left Jaller behind, and she says she left because Jaller was the true herald, and she only happened to be near when he was chosen. Gali tries to argue, but is interrupted when three new Rahkshi attack the village. Kopaka's energy is drained by the Vorahk, Gali is tormented by the Turahk, and Tahu is angered by the Kurahk into following it to the top of the waterfall, then tricked into falling off into the sea.

Hahli had been been running away from Ga-Koro by land, but after defeating the Toa the new Rahkshi catch up to and surround her. Makuta speaks to her through them, telling her Jaller's time is almost up and that she must hand over the mask. The Rahkshi then fly away.

When the Toa recover, Tahu wonders why the Rahkshi attacked Ga-Koro. Kopaka answers that they weren't after the mask but the herald. They are glad to find Hahli safe and tell her they have to escort her back to Jaller in order to protect her.

When Hahli is returned to Jaller, she notices the mask's guidance working strangely near Tanma, but doesn't mention it. She tells Jaller of the new Rahkshi and explains that her duty is with the mask. Jaller says he is glad to have her back.

The mask leads the three Matoran in a loop through Po-Wahi. The Toa follow them, and eventually they are led into a cave with bright light spilling out of it. They all expect the Toa of Light to emerge, but it is only Lewa, with Onua and Pohatu. They had been examining a carving that seemed to depict the Mask of Light and Kini-Nui. They therefore decide to go to Kini-Nui and look for the Seventh Toa there.

On the way, Hahli admits to Jaller that the Mask of Light seems to react to Tanma's presence. Jaller wonders why, but before they can finish discussing the group stumbles upon the six Rahkshi waiting for them just outside Kini-Nui.

The Toa attempt to hold off the Rahkshi while the Matoran get the Toa of Light. But the Turahk intercepts the Matoran at the temple. Jaller tries to attack it, but it kills him with a blast of fear. It moves between Tanma and Hahli and Makuta speaks through it, telling her her time is up. But instead she throws the mask to Tanma and shouts to him to put it on.

The Turahk turns to him but it is too late: he has become a Toa and defeats the Rahkshi with a blast of light. He declares himself as Tamanuva, and then not long after descends into Mangaia to face the Makuta. But during the fight, which the Makuta describes as a "game of Kolhii," he switches his Mask of Light with the Makuta's Mask of Shadowo, then both of them fall into energized protodermis and are destroyed.

Tamanuva's sacrifice allows the Matoran to return to Metru Nui. The Toa go to Karda Nui and Mata Nui is awakened, the end.

the Toa Inika land on Destral instead of Karzahni and are given Shadow abilities instead of Lightning.

shortly after, Jaller puts on the Ignika, no longer fearing death.

Lhikan becomes a Dark Hunter instead of Nhidiki.

the Makuta destroy the Toa of Psionics instead of the Toa of Iron.

Vamprah is assassinated instead of the Makuta of Stelt.

also, the Toa Nuva are sent on a mission to the Pit and are killed by the Zyglak with only Onua making it out alive instead of the Toa Cordak with Lesovikk surviving

I think he missed out on a few replies. Fair enough, I'll just follow on from both his and your prompts.

#1: Zaktan eventually rises through the ranks and becomes the shadowed one's most trusted ally. However, when the rest of the piraka try to rebel against the shadowed one, Zaktan kills them all with relative ease. whatever happens after that is anyone's guess.

#2: The Inika carry on to Voya Nui, betray the Toa Nuva and ally with the Piraka, leading to the Toa Nuva sacrificing their power to make the Voya Nui Resistance Toa to combat this new force. Later, When Jaller puts on the Ignika, It senses the darkness in his heart and his willingness to destroy Mata Nui, and due to the Ignika's "Programming," It rejects Jaller's request and destroys him (Unless he made a heel-face turn prior), leaving one of the Toa Voya (Formerly the Voya Nui resistance) to carry out this deed. (I like this one... I think i might make this into a full story.)

#3: Not much changes, Except Lihkan's Mutated form looks like a Dragon instead of a scorpion thing and Nidihki steals his hoverboard to deliver the Toa Stones.

#4: This Choice was widely regarded as a bad move by the brotherhood, as the Toa of Iron team up and reduce their Armour to scrap metal within Days. All the Toa and Matoran etc. Have a holiday before Spherus Magna is reformed.

#5: Hmm... I'm not sure if that would make much difference other than having a new set for 2008.

#6: Many years later, Lesovikk and his team embark to revive Mata Nui in place of the Toa Mata after their tragic downfall. Further along the line, Onua shows up to aid them.

Ok, So my prompt is...

What if The Piraka actually had good Intentions, despite their menacing appearance?

Hilarious prompt! Ok, so the Piraka are instead six Skakdi missionaries intent upon helping the Voya Nui Matoran recover from their dire state, as well as bringing them the glorious word of Irnakk the Terrifying. But just as they make their way to the island of Mata Nui and prepare to leave, a strange presence enters their minds and tells them they must prove the superiority of their faith to the Matoran by taking the Mask of Life hidden under the island. This only makes them more eager to go.

They decide to first win the Matoran's support with acts of charity, then find the Mask of Light and begin converting them to Irnakkism. When they arrive, they go to the village and ask the leader to organize a meeting at the heat of midday. The Matoran are suspicious, but show up nonetheless. Immediately Zaktan and Vezok combine their powers to create a rainshower that cools the land, reinvigorates their crops, and fills their rain barrels. The Matoran are very pleased and attentively listen to the Skakdi talk about how they have come to save them from both secular and spiritual hardship.

But the other Skakdi soon discover that Zaktan has an eerie secret: In the new Temple of Irnakk's basement he has constructed a huge vat of green liquid, which he seems to believe is the essence of Irnakk himself. Zaktan also met the local guardian Brutaka, and after finding out about his fading faith in Mata Nui, eagerly attempted to convert him. Brutaka was at first uninterested, but quickly agreed after he found out about Zaktan's liquid "Irnakk." Seeing its invigorating effects on Brutaka, Zaktan decided he must use it on the Matoran to convert them.

However, he did this by hauling the tank out into the village on a cart and pouring cups of the green liquid for the villagers. Needless to say, no one drank it and the public opinion of Irnakkism fell immensely. Angry about Zaktan ruining their plans, the other Skakdi decide that their only hope now is to get the Mask of Life and use it to prove the greatness of Irnakk. They split up and go across the island looking for it. But they are thwarted by the island's other guardian, Axonn, who denounces their Irnakkism and claims the infallibility of Mata Nui. As they return to their temple, the Skakdi swear to defeat the belief in Mata Nui here once and for all.

The Skakdi get to work. Vezok and Reidak create irrigated farmland, canals and aqueducts for the Matoran. Thok and Hakann carefully engineer a controlled volcanic eruption to reduce the hazard of Mount Valmai. Avak designs several machines to improve the Matoran's everyday life.

Once their projects are all well underway, the Skakdi return to the Matoran (Zaktan humbly included) and boldly proclaim that it is fear of Irnakk that brought them these new improvements to their lives, whereas the "blessing" of Mata Nui had done nothing for them in a thousand years. Conflicted, the Matoran wondered whether they really should abandon Mata Nui. Axonn felt obligated to reveal himself at last and denounce the Skakdi for heretics trying to deceive the Matoran. A fight between Axonn and the Skakdi ensues, but there is no clear victor. The villagers begin to divide into two factions which they call "Matoran" and "Irnoran." The Matoran have the majority, and declare that Irnoran are unwelcome in the village. The Irnoran build new homes for themselves by the Temple of Irnakk.

Then the Toa Nuva arrive. They first encounter these Irnoran building their new homes, and are mystified by their faith but agree to help anyway. But when the Irnoran find out the Toa believe in Mata Nui, they drive them away to the village "where they belong." Once among the Matoran, the Toa explain their goal to find the Mask of Life and save the life of Mata Nui.

But the Skakdi had an Irnoran spy in the village, and immediately concluded that Irnakkism on Voya Nui would be doomed if the Toa succeeded. They now had a deadline to find the Mask of Life and searched frantically. Soon they ran into the Toa doing the same thing. Not wanting to risk a fight with Toa, they feign ignorance of the Mask and offer to help find it. Axonn sees through their plan and quietly warns the Toa that the Skakdi know of the mask and want to stop the Toa from getting it. The Toa decide to preemptively destroy the Temple of Irnakk while the Skakdi are away. But Brutaka is there, and effortlessly takes out all six Toa. He then uses the antidermis to infect them, and sends them via a portal to attack Axonn.

The possessed Toa Nuva are a match for Axonn's strength, especially since he is unwilling to kill them. However, he manages to trick them into exposure to energized protodermis and cures them of the infection. When they come to their senses the Toa and Axonn agree that Irnakkism must be stopped.

The Skakdi stop back at their temple and are shocked to find it ruined. Brutaka tells them of the Toa knowing more about the Skakdi's motives than they appeared to. Not realizing the Toa are still alive, the Skakdi want revenge, and against Brutaka's advice, infect several Irnoran and send them to attack and kidnap Matoran, who are then also infected. Before long, Matoran are fighting a siege against antidermis-ed "zombies."

Cue the Toa Inika. After arriving they barely escape from a group of zombies and then track them to the Matoran village, where they defeat many zombies and find a villager has discovered a cure for antidermis. Designing weapons that fire this cure, they use them to rapidly take out the zombie army. Meanwhile, Axonn and the Nuva hunt down Brutaka, defeat him and let Botar take him. Axonn wants to punish the Irnoran, but the Toa convince him to let them merely say a praise to Mata Nui and return to their village. So where are the Skakdi?

The Inika discover that they have found the cavern leading to the Mask of Life and follow after them. They get to the bottom, the Skakdi fight a giant spider, the Skakdi lose, the Inika fight the giant spider, the spider turns into a dragon, they beat it, they get the mask, 2007 happens.

Absolutely nothing changes, since Greg decided to say Botar was able to teleport from the Red Star IIRC, and also that he was replaced by someone that did... exactly the same thing. Making his death meaningless. There's just no reaction to his death.

Vultraz is never left in the Melding alternate universe, and comes back instead of Mazeka.

On Bota Magna, everything is about to fall apart.

  • 1 month later...

Furious that the Shadowed One stole his plan, Teridax absorbs him using his Shadow Hand, along with Nidhiki, Krekka and Nivawk. Lhikan sacrifices himself to save Vakama, so he and the other Toa Metru can seal him into the Protodermis. And make their way to Mata Nui.

Since the Shadowed One is dead, the Dark Hunters have a civil war over who should be leader. One side led by Zaktan, the other led by Lariska. Since Sidorak and the Visorak are busy fighting this war (on Zaktan's side), the Visorak never come to Metru Nui, the Toa Hagah are never mutated into Rahaga, the Toa Metru are never mutated, Vakama never turns evil, Sidorak never dies, Makuta is never freed and the events of Time Trap are much more boring.

Without Makuta to get in their way, the Toa Mata open the gate to Metru Nui on the first try. Takua awakens the Bohrok Swarm, and they destroy Mata Nui while it's inhabitants are in Metru Nui. As such the Toa Nuva never exist, Takua never finds the Mask of Light and becomes the Seventh Toa, and the Bahrag are never sealed in Protodermis and the Bohrok-Kal are never destroyed.

The events of 2006-2008 play out exactly the same, just without the Piraka (since they are busy fighting in Zaktan's war) and without Teridax (who is still sealed in Protodermis). The other Makuta still fight the Toa Mata in Karda Nui, since Icarax now is taking Teridax's place in the Plan, and when it succeeds, he takes over the Matoran Universe. Mata Nui is banished in the Mask of Life to Bara Magma, takes control of the prototype robot, kills Icarax, and reforms Spherus Magma. The inhabitants of the Matoran Universe flee to Spherus Magma. Lariska has won the Dark Hunter war, but the organization has suffered too many casualties to still be considered a major threat.
