in my case i would be embarrassed in public because of saying the word Bionicle if you cant see im in 9th grade and believe it or not everybody knows about Bionicle its that nobody talks about it and i don't have a single friend that likes Bionicle by the other way i have a friend that likes chima and ninjago.

I'm just a simple man, trying to make my way in the Matoran Universe

Most of my friends recongnize it, especially the older ones. They usually respond with "That was my childhood," and etcetera. I have several good friends I can talk about it with more detail though. In return, I get involved in whatever they want to talk to me about. Hence why I like Sword Art Online.

In highschool nobody really cared, and in college talking about it actually drew the attention of wandering upperclassmen who were just as interested as I am, so I can't ever say it goes badly. Folks usually react with "Oh I used to have those when I was little" or don't really react at all. If I bring it up for whatever reason and they're not showing any interest I just move on and don't press it. The only time it really comes up is when I'm working on something for a BZP contest or a fan project or something.

Yeah, I don't have anyone to really talk to about it, at least in detail. A bunch of people can somewhat recognize the name it seems, but only one person I know actually knows anything for real about Bionicle, and he's not THAT into it, he didn't even know about the extended family of elements. So I've always been pretty alone in terms of liking Bionicle. But hey, at least I now have BZP!

I'm seventeen and in university now. Bionicle has been dead for four years, as far as everyone I know is concerned. It never comes up in conversation anymore. I tried explaining the new rumours to my younger brothe,r who used to be a fan, but he likes the set and doesn't care about he storyline, so he's pretty useless as well.

I'm all alone!!!

I think I get the general gist of the question, even though it's cut off at the end...

High school was a long time ago for me. But in general, if your friends are the kinds of people who would give you grief over liking something they don't care for they probably aren't the best friends in the first place. That's assuming you're not obsessing over Bionicle or bringing it up all the time in unrelated conversations, of course—you're best off sticking to shared points of reference in most situations, and it'd be easy for your friends to tire of hearing about Bionicle if you're obnoxious about it.

My friends are all over Bionicle, but everyone (nearly every guy) remembers it to some degree. Isn't there a statistic somewhere that like 80% of American boys have heard of and 50% own a Bionicle? With those kind of numbers, it's not unlikely to meet someone who recalls them.

I got rid of my picture, are you happy?

None of my friends like it, but then again, they don't like my other fandoms either, so honestly I don't care. I'm not into what they like, so while we have nothing in common hobby wise, that's not the sole basis of a friendship.

My friends used to play with the toys, but they don't really care about it anymore. I rarely bring it up, only when it is somehow related to what we're talking about.

I never get into the details of the story or anything, I know that they don't care so there's no need to bother them with it.  :P

I know a one or two Bionicle fans in my classes, but several of my closest friends are like the rest of us, minus activity on BZP, so I'm alone yet not alone.

I just typically don't, unless I'm meeting someone who is in a lot of fandoms, and there's the smallest chance that they might...

Nope. They pretty much never do. Oh well.

Pretty much what this says.

I'm not in school anymore, but when I was my friends and I dug out the side of a hill in the grounds and built a village for our Bohrok , complete with structures and everything out of clay from the art department! There was a smoothed out bit of hill where we 'raced' the Bohrok in ball mode. We traded masks and kranas, too, and since we weren't allowed to sell things at school we always got in trouble- so the trades went on in secret B-)

I'm still in contact with a good few of my school friends, one of which is actually hyped about 2015. I imagine the rest left it behind years ago.

I have never discussed Bionicle with my classmates in both high school and college as they don't like Lego. They are aware that I like Lego, though.

People shouldn't be embarrassed about it. It's essentially saying you are embarrassed for who you are but I do understand why people don't talk about it.

I understand why some people deny it though, especially as a teenager. People can be mean for really dumb reasons.

Avoiding ridicule and being embarrassed are two different things. Of course, I was the same, but now as an adult (physically at least), I am more open about my passions and interests. If people can't accept that then I shouldn't be associating myself with them.

I've never been embarrassed to talk about Bionicle in public. Back in sophomore health class (jeez that was nearly two years ago now), we had to do something called an "identity box" and fill it with things that represented our personalities. In addition to putting in drawing materials, games, and such, I put in the six kanohi of the Toa Mata sets as a tribute to my childhood years.

Bionicle had an immeasurable impact on my life and I never found it hard to rant about. Maybe that's also because I hang with pretty open-minded people but still..

As far as I know, I am the only person on my side of my year group at my school who cares about Bionicle. I have friends who have heard about it, none who care about it, a few own sets, and one in particular wants to know everything about Bionicle. At some point in the not-too distant future, I'm planning to do an MNOG Let's Play with him, and then upload it onto YouTube. Since the news about the possible return next year has come out, he has said that he's going to buy the sets/follow the story etc. next year. But no-one else who I know has ever really gotten into the story.

And the great thing about nearly nobody who I know/don't like having even heard of Bionicle is that I can talk about it freely without being ridiculed/embarrassed. Perfect.

I've caught myself making references or even using euphemisms from Bionicle (I often say "catch my current" after a Ga-Matoran said it in one book), but I don't normally talk about it unless I'm around those who I know already either like it or tolerate me liking it.

Nearly all of my friends say that LEGO is for babies, but they respect my decision.

I am not afraid of saying that I love LEGO and saying my favorite theme is Bionicle

I say it is my opinion, LEGO is for all Ages, (On Creator Theme Boxes, Like the Blue Box or the Red Box it clearly states X-99)

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm the last fan at my school, with the exception of a certain ex-staff BZPer. Heck, even he isn't super big on Bionicle any more. My close friends that did like the franchise grew out of it at the beginning of middle school. That said, one kid started making fun of Move Along because it was on the commercial for those stupid Lego Bionicle things. One of my semi-friends noticed my Chrome theme is the island of Mata Nui, and that was cool that he remembered. That said, I mean, I'm in high school - who in the world is going to be still playing/loving Legos?
