The Good of Alternate Universe

Lovers of AUs from around the world, here is the place where we share our love of, and the good that the AUs have brought upon us.

 

I personally really loved the defeat of Teridax. Just amazing. Matoro became a truer hero after I read The Kingdom.

I personally think that the AU's were one of the best things that came to Bionicle, simply because it let us look at the characters we already knew in a different light, and it was refreshing from the main plots of the main universe.

 

Teridax looked like a lot more interesting of a character to me after Takanuva's journey's. I also thought it was a real cool concept how he could be totally evil in one universe, yet a strict follower of good in another.

 

A lot of people complained about how "un-serious" alternate universes became with Vezon, but I think it's especially cool that Vezon had the Olmak fused to his substance, because having a raging lunatic jumping between worlds actually adds a lot of fun to the story.

One unrelated question: Was Vezon that insane in 2006? I always saw him as just another villain. When did he turn into the insane physcomaniac he is now? Probably serials...

No he and Vezok were both driven insane by the split, Vezon just had less screentime in 06 and Vezok wasn't quite as insane.

I think when alternate universes were first used they were pretty interesting but later on I found them overused. I think the best and most enjoyable one to me was the kingdom because it showed what could of happened to a event very recent in the story line if it was different.

I guess The Kingdom saved BZP from a lot of 'What if Matoro failed to use the Ignika' questions.

I kind of like the alternate universe of the Toa Empire. It just makes it similar to Oceania in 1984, but with Toa being in control of Metru Nui as warlords and tyrants. I think the Toa Empire was quite interesting in my own opinion.

Lighteridax was a really interesting concept.

 

Toa Empire was in my opinion one of the best. It explored the darker side of order and justice, things that we took for granted as good under the Toa.

I, too, enjoyed the Dark Mirror serial. I like to think it was one of the, if not the, best uses of alternate dimensions in the Bionicle storyline. It also used characters like Lesovikk that, even though they were alternate versions of them, probably wouldn't have gotten some screen time otherwise. 

 

And as stated before, Light Teridax came from an alternate dimension. And I really liked his character.

Melding had an... Unusual and interesting concept, but I never really got to reading it.

He's always been crazy. His first words as an individual being, in Legacy of Evil, to Vezok, are:

He had a really cool, creepy vibe as the cursed guardian of the Ignika, which made him really cool in my opinion, but ever since the Toa Inika took the mask, all he's had left is his randomness, which Greg increased by exponential levels in the serials.

Well actually Vezon isn't wearing a mask anymore but the Olmak is fused to his substance, so he has powers again. I personally never saw it bad that he didn't have powers, there was a funny bit when he was talking to Brutaka about his powers. But having a raging lunatic rampaging through different dimensions is pretty fun in my opinion. Makes for some interesting stories...

Melding was the one from Brothers in Arms right? With Mazeka and Vultraz, with tiny toa and big matoran?

 

 

 

I always liked Vezon as a character, he is very much relatable. He made the serials very interesting. I think he was only in Destiny War, Federation of Fear and Reign of Shadows though. He needs more appearances!

Yep, the Melding Dimension is the one from the Brothers in Arms serial.

 

And speaking of that serial, Vezon did appear in one chapter of Brothers in Arms. I don't remember which chapter, but I know its the one where Tobduk kills Tridax.

I like alternate universes. It gives us new light on familiar characters and shows us what could be if something hadn't happened the way it did in the main story. With that said, I don't like the excessive use of them. I don't think Bionicle hit that limit, but I really hope Vezok can learn to control his new found power soon.

It's Vezon who is the dimension hopper, not Vezok.

I adore The Kingdom and Dark Mirror. Both are superb stories that demonstrated fascinating possibilities of how the story could have unfolded if certain events had gone differently. Matoro's sacrifice and Teridax's defeat were especially poignant moments in the former, while the ethical and moral issues brought up by the latter make for a great read as well. I do wish Dark Mirror had been longer, because there were many things there that could have been expanded on.

The Toa Empire is my favorite AU. I liked how it branched from The Many Deaths of Toa Tuyet, one of my favorite serials, but went off into a completely different direction. I love it when you get to see the main universe completely turn around the roles of the characters (the Toa are bad while the Makuta are "good"). I also like how they changed Lesovikk into a rebel hero, whereas in the main universe he does not see himself as a hero at all.

 

If there was a story that continued from the end of Dark Mirror, I would give it a read.

I wish we could've gotten more info on Spherus Magna Alternate Universe. Now, with all the fuzz around 2015, it gives a few ideas of what would've happened when the Bara Magna citizens met MU ones, and if they learned to live together.

The initial idea of having Takanuva travel through Alternate Universes was a good one. I too enjoyed Dark Mirror, where the Toa Empire society was portrayed extremely well, and The Kingdom, to the point where I'm attempting to write an epic serving as prequel. 

After that, however, the concept got a little misused, with alternate universes being shown to us even when it was far from necessary and for too brief a time. The Melding universe, with good Makuta and Toa that were Matoran, could have been a good idea, but we didn't get to see enough of it, in my opinion. Besides, the serial was originally supposed to be about the conflict between Mazeka and Vultraz and that dimension hop in Karda Nui prevented it from being given a satisfactory closure, in my opinion.

Even briefer was the portrayal of the Spherus Magna Alternate Universe, so much that it was practically useless, especially since Vezon returns to the main universe just one chapter later. 

However, the worst idea they could ever have had was, eventually, to make dimension hopping seem like routine. Tridax kidnapped Takanuvas from alternate universes just like that and the Order actually imprisoned Tuyet in alternate universe before kidnapping another Tuyet from another universe... very chaotic. What happened to the idea that parallel universes should (almost) never meet? One wonders: if our characters jump from one universe to another with such ease, couldn't the ones in the other universes do the same with the "main" one?

The AU's were really fun and interesting. Seeing Matoro and all these crazy adventures was great to see. And they had an impact on the main universe with good paladin Teridax now living there.
