Banana Gunz Posted August 22, 2014 Share Posted August 22, 2014 I already have his picture in my signature and the BZRPG topic but I was wondering what everyone else thought of it.If you want his full bio you can visit the BZRPG profiles, but for the most part he is just a self-centered (but good) potions/medicine maker. He has his own shop in Ga-Koro and is kind of like that classic sassy British professor you see in movies. This is my first piece of digital art. I drew him out on paper, took a picture of it, drew over the outline, cleaned everything up, and colored. I don't have any access to a tablet so sadly everything had to be done using a mouse. I was reading up on BS01 and I learned that the scope on the Akaku is actually just an attachment and that they can be added onto any masks so I thought it would look cool on the noble huna. I took the classic 02 matoran body and decided to spice it up a bit with some gears and such. Adding gears just makes everything feel closer to 01-03 doesn't it? So, tell me what you guys think! My favorite part is that you clearly based it very much off of the 2003 Matoran sets, but the addition of gears, tweaked torso, and customized mask all make it more unique. I was looking to make something somewhat "generic" as a matoran but I wanted more than just the colors to be different from others, and I thought that adding gears and such to the average matoran build would give it more character. I will be making more art in the future, no worries. What kind of artist would I be if I didn't. Again, thanks for the nice feedback! A lot of BZPRPG art is excessively stylized or humanized, but this does a great job of reflecting what has always been Bionicle's general design feel while also creating your own character. I know that there are good custom mask shops like Modalt Masks (and the other one I can't remember the name for...). Modalt Masks charges really good prices for their level of quality, though I've never bought from them myself. You can buy custom hybrid masks, and this type of mask seems like it would be perfectly possible to make. I'm not 100% but it seems like the Akaku shape would fit in fine. Reznas Posted August 25, 2014 Share Posted August 25, 2014 Hey, this is actually really nice! The shading is spot on, the pose is striking, the lines are smooth, I could go on. My favorite part is the hands. They're shaped differently than normal, which makes the unique. Personally, I really like them! I do like the design of the character, but I would want to see what they look like with some point-source illumination rather than pillow shading. I usually only bother myself with realistic shading in scenes or actual posing. The pillow shading was used to add depth to it but I just wanted people to get the general idea of how this character looked like. Besides, it's generally pleasing to me so I don't have the bother to go back and add extra shading. Intense shading is for other types of projects! The design is awesome, set-like style is something I always had my fair share of trouble with, and you just got it so perfectly right. The addition of the cape is nice too. Colours are balanced, the lineart well done. Considering you coloured this with the mouse... nice, really nice.
