Toa Smoke Monster
So I reread Voyage of Fear not too long ago, and I came across a line of dialogue that made me stop and think. It was a line that Nuju said when he was taunting one of the Kralhi: "We needed law inforcers," Nuju continued, ducking and dodging. "Instead, we got dusty, clanking energy vampires." The word 'vampire' here made me pause for a moment. What was Nuju talking about? I know just about everyone in the real world is familiar with what a vampire is, but this is the only time I've seen this word used in the Bionicle storyline. As far as I'm aware, we don't have any lore from the official storyline that says that vampires existed in the MU. So how would he know what a vampire is? I do have a few explanations for this quote. One, the word 'vampire' could be a word to describe something that drains the energy from another living being. (I know actual vampires drink blood, but since none of the MU residents have blood as far as I know, I'd assume energy would be the next best thing to be taken out of being in the MU.) Two, Greg somply included the word here to give Nuju a clever taunt for the Kralhi. Or lastly, and this one is one I think is the least likely, is that either some MU residents actually were vampires and we never saw them in story, or there is stories of them in the MU that we never heard of the official storyline. But I want to hear what you guys think of this. Were there vampires in the MU? Or am I overthinking this a bit? Quote Everyone is one choice away from being the bad guy in another person's story. -Vesok-
I think it's a bit of overthinking, and a bit of a mistake on greg's part too. I guess you argue that it's kind of like a form of the word Vamprah?
Archon~
Could maybe be a sort of Bat-like Rahi that feeds on energy? I imagined Vamprah would have made them. Banana Gunz
Vampire is just a word that can be used to describe something that "takes" a lot or sucks things in excessively. Nuju is just being cynical of how much energy the Vahki intake and them not being real law enforcers but instead robots. Plus since he's describing the Vahki as vampires clearly I don't see why that line really opens up the possibility of vampires existing as a separate species in the MU. bonesiii
You always have to remember that English words and phrases in Bionicle are "translated" from fictional but often unestablished Matoran-language (etc.) words and phrases. It could be he didn't actually say something that exact and "vampires" is just part of a close English translation of a phrase; he might simply have said "energy drainers", and the "translators" just opt for a more powerful saying in English (and more dramatic). Or energy drainers with a more specific name translated well as vampires may be a thing. 4 Quote The Destiny of Bionicle (chronological retelling of Bionicle original series, 9 PDFs of 10 chapters each on Google Drive): Part 1 - Warring with Fate | Part 2 - Year of Change | Part 3 - The Exploration Trap | Part 4 - Rise of the Warlords | Part 5 - A Busy Matoran | Part 6 - The Dark Time | Part 7 - Proving Grounds | Part 8 - A Rude Awakening | Part 9 - The Battle of Giants My Bionicle Fanfiction (Google Drive folder, eventually planned to have PDFs of all of it)
