The Swimming Beard
My entry to the September BZPower flickr contest. This is, without a doubt, the most ambitious color scheme I have ever used on a MOC. I actually think I was able to pull it off fairly well. As always, comments and criticism appreciated. Mate.397
I like how it looks but isn't there a bit too much red for a Toa of Stone? There's barely any brown.
Makuta Miras
I love the heavily-armoured look- it's one of my favourite things about your MOCs. As for the colour scheme, it seems more like a Toa of Light who just can't get his colouring right. It looks a bit messy, basically, and not really very stone-y. The tiny bits of System used on the legs feel a little out of place, as well. But other than that, I'm mostly impressed! It's amazing how you've managed to compact so much detail into an MOC which- correct me if I'm wrong- is only about the size of a canister set. Keep up the good work! Akavakaku
Wow, excellent construction! But I must agree that Stone does not come to mind when I see it. To me it looks more like Light or even Iron. Quote ( The bunny slippers hiss and slither into the shadows. ) -Takuaka: Toa of TimeWhat if the Toa you know best were not destined to be? Lyichir
That is one heck of a sweet color scheme. Well organized, too, for something with that many colors. That said, I'll echo what someone said before—the bright red overpowers the other colors to the extent that it really doesn't seem like a Toa of Stone. If the red parts were replaced with Orange (which looks like it would be doable with only a few substitutions) it might work better. Sumiki
This might be one of the few "jumbled" color schemes that actually work, but looking closely I see that it's not jumbled at all. The layering gives it a depth that can be appreciated at a distance. The construction is solid (if a bit in the vein of the Classic DV Shelfchest), which sells the Stone-Toa vibe more than anything else. I don't blame you for the ambitious color scheme; brown and tan are notoriously hard to work with. Not sure I like the hands - they seem really tiny compared to the bulkiness of the rest. Some black or silver fingers could rectify that. 1 Quote avatar by Lady Kopaka
Jam Pot Studios
The gold works really well: it's sort of a halfway point between brown and the yellows that Toa of Stone had later on. It also reminds me of the yellows browns on some of the Matoran in MNOG II. The red makes a great contrast, too. Quote Blog|YouTube|Flickr Making brickfilms since 2007. The Swimming Beard
The gold works really well: it's sort of a halfway point between brown and the yellows that Toa of Stone had later on. It also reminds me of the yellows browns on some of the Matoran in MNOG II. The red makes a great contrast, too. Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking when I made it a Toa of stone. Tan is standard, gold is similar to tan and brown, and silver is just armor. The black is used as a base, so the only color that really wouldn't fit for a stone Toa is the red, which I added to make it interesting. Anyway, thanks, and thanks to everyone who commented. Fsnorglepuff
Ambitious color scheme indeed! But it works. Who said Toa of Stone can't be red, anyway? There are certainly red stones, black ones too... so your color choices do not phase me at all. The MOC itself could use some hands, and that perpendicular connector on the weapon might look better as silver (the red spike is enough red, plus with this many colors it seems best not to put same-color parts right next to each other). For the sam reasons, use black axles where they connect to red parts (like on the chest) and red axles everywhere else. I can't say much more with only one picture, but I hope you stayed consistent with the tan-on-red ball joint color layering, it is phenomenal. Great MOC! Mysterious Minifig
There are some many colors but somehow you've managed to blend them together well enough to make it work. The body it self is well done as it appears finished and well filled in. The amount of detailing you included is impressive. I have to agree with Sumiki though, that I'm not a huge fan of the hands. They're probably the worst part of the MOC. They're just too simple when compared to the rest of the work you've put into this.
