How rare is the trans-green Miru?

In addition to the aforementioned TNGM guy, I know that former BZP admin mfuss903 used to have a couple hundred of those masks himself.

For all I know, mfuss and BLTNGM guy are the same person.

Actually, on browsing Bricklink a while back I recall seeing that mfuss got his selling privilege revoked, so it would appear they are not the same person.

I used to think CaptainInvictus, BLTNGM guy, was Tenebrae Invictus. Until I googled Invictus.

the people selling them for $10 on ebay are laughably mistaken. there's a guy on bricklink who has nearly 900 of them and he's selling them for $2 apiece. they really are not worth $10.

some day i want to help that guy escape from his tormented life surrounded by masks

I don't know what you're talking about. If I had hundreds of BIONICLE masks, I'd be the happiest man on earth! I'd put some kind of display rack together and mount the masks on them. I'd polish them all and tell them stories of the life I had before them. I'd chat with them, read with them, laugh with them. I'd lock myself up in my room with them and spend days on end in that room, adoring all of the masks in my possession. I'd die with those masks and be buried with them all. All of my little plastic face friends get to spend the rest of the Earth's days with me in the grave as my weeping soul carries on the legacy. Oh, how great that would be!

the joke is that i'm exaggerating the amount he has. i once put it as him swimming through masks to get to his kitchen for breakfast each morning. that sounds like a tormented life.

I see that now. Haha, 900 masks sure is a lot indeed! It'd be fun to swim in for the first 3 times, though. If I were put in that situation, I'd probably dig an underground storage unit to put all of the masks in.

Legoland sold them by the pound.  I called them and they were happy to bag up a few and mail them to me.

I think of them as rare for the general public.  For regular kids in the neighborhood they're the best.  For kids on BZP they're nothing.

I used to trade them in mass quantities for what I wanted, leaving it up to the recipient to unload them.

Like, I'd trade 100 for a GPKK.  Then the recipient would sell them for $5 each and we'd both smile.

I've noticed they go for more on eBay, too. I twice tried winning auctions that had them for $6-$7, but lost both. I eventually got it in a Bricklink order for about $3.50.

Wait. You have a GPKK?

Yes.  As far as I know, I'm the only person with duplicates.  I have Ja, Bo, Ca, Ca, Su, Su.

If anyone has Xa, Za, Vu or Yo I'll offer that same deal :  100 TNGM.  That's $1000 in eBay dollars if you get $10 each.  Of course you have to go to the Post Office 100 times too.

Your    Xa, Za, Vu or Yo  for my 100 TNGM.  For the Xa I'll add a metal mask.

Your    Xa, Za, Vu or Yo for my 50 TNGM and my spare Ca or Su    <==  You still have a GPKK  !!

Your   Ja, or BO  for my 50 TNGM and a metal mask made by me. (think battle damaged)

Your  Ca or Su  for my 50 TNGM OR a metal mask made by me. Not the best, but nice.

Notice that the only way to get a GPKK from me is to trade  GPKK.  Your best bet, if you have a GPKK to sell is to trade it to me then sell the Ca or Su instead.

For Magnetic Vorahk, whose thread I've hijacked, I'll sell you a TNGM for $1 plus shipping as an apology.

This is kind of off topic, so I apologize for that, but is there anywhere I can see your metal masks?

That's amazing. I don't have any rare krana sadly. This is going to sound a bit stupid, but would both Kaukau misprints (yellow and light blue), a Movie Edition Kraahkan, a misprint Blue Ruru, a trans neon green Miru, an orange Vahi and a Copper Huna be enough for a GPKK?

No.   No GPKK goes until I get 8, which I suspect basically means never.

Is most of what I have.  Some of those are my favorites.  If someone has a GPKK and want's something special we can talk.

The Matatu's a favorite, as are the bimetallic kraata.

Don't krana look great in copper?  That's a SSKK at the top.  I made it myself.

Those are beautiful. I love that steel Ruru. And the golden Vahi...

Thanks!  That vahi is made from my favorite alloy.  I went to a metal recycling place to buy some scrap brass for masks and they had stacks of welding rods used in high tech metal work, like rockets and jet engines.   I bought the "aluminum bronze" you see there.  It looks golden like brass but the aluminum forms an impenetrable sapphire layer that keeps out oxygen.  They don't tarnish!!  A decade later and it's still shiny.

Of course, being so cool it has to have a downside.  Normal casting procedures cause a nasty buildup of crud on the crucible and I had to replace about $40 in equipment.  Anybody casting aluminum bronze, DON'T USE BORAX FLUX!!!

The metals you see here are :

Sterling - slight yellowish

Copper - red/red brown

Brass - golden/golden brown

Aluminum Bronze - Shiny gold

German Silver AKA White Metal (Nickle/copper) - silver/grey

Lead Free Pewter (mostly tin ) - Looks like aluminum - Bright silvery grey

you guys are getting kind of off topic here..make that really off topic

She's right - you are all free to head over to Bionicle Discussion to start a topic about GPKKs and other such initialisms, or start a topic here in B/S/T to discuss questions of value, but goodness it's starting to look like G&T in here. : P

That actually won't be necessary, as I made this thread to see how much I should sell mine for. I've got a bag of 143. Thank you, though!

I miss BIONICLE.

TNGMs were originally available at Legoland California in a scavenger hunt. Back then they were worth about $20 each, and I presume that anyone who still has the original scavenger hunt sheet with it could be more than the current value. However, Lego had produced way too many so they sold them at Legoland California in bulk. People could fill up a bag of about 200 masks and it cost $25, or $20 for Legoland pass holders. BZP former staff member mfuss903 had 5 bags (1,000 TNGMs), and I assume that is also why some BL sellers have so many. They currently go for $2 each.
