Continuing our Ninjago Month celebration comes a set review of the largest vehicle for this Ninjago wave: The NinjaCopter piloted by Zane and Pixal. This $60 set, with 516 pieces, boasts some heavy artillery and flying maneuvers to outsmart the NinDroids in their own flying machine. Read, and watch, on for the review and to learn how you can win one of these sets for yourself.

The crow (actually a falcon) is a robotic bird which helped guide Zane to the workshop where he was created in the fan-favorite episode "Tick Tock". Since then it's accompanied him on various quests, and he often uses his ability to remotely see through its eyes when surveillance is required.

I'm fairly sure the "Bohrok eye tail thing" (which I didn't even remember, leading me to wonder for a while what you were even talking about) is just meant to support the tail when the copter is on the ground, so that it can adjust the rear and central turbines even when not in flight.

It's worth noting that the version of Zane in this set (with his robotic eye exposed as it is on all of this year's boxart) is actually exclusive to this set. Two exclusive figs makes this a very desirable set for Ninjago fans.

Good review! This is one of the two Ninjago sets for this year that I already own. It's got great minifigures and a great design. I love the assembly of the side-mounted turbines/blasters. So deliciously streamlined! I can see that you didn't apply the stickers, but I find the ice patterns and other details really enhance the set.

Zane's falcon is a great inclusion, even if it's just a reuse of the crow piece from The Lone Ranger sets. The little perch for it is kind of unusual, but it's effective for giving Zane a way to hold his animal companion.

Overall, it's definitely one of the strangest Ninja vehicles to date, not taking a whole lot of cues from real-world vehicles of any sort. But it's pretty awesome-looking regardless!

Really, Ben, you couldn't figure out the falcon bit on your own?  It's even in the online set description, so you don't even need to follow the show!

Overall, a great set.  Honestly, it's design kind of reminds me of the Tunnel Transport from classic Rock Raiders. The function is great, although I was a little annoyed that the blunt shooters are on a loose connection that can turn freely independently of the gears. It makes sense from a playability aspect, but somehow just annoys me.

Decent review, thanks for the pictures!

The main reason the blunt shooters are a loose connection (not majorly loose, since they're attached via a double-length friction pin, but loose enough to turn) is that there's really no easier way to have them aligned perpendicular to the tail/center turbine otherwise. The knob gears would otherwise ensure that they were 45 degrees apart from one another, and even with different gears you couldn't get it exactly right.
