If you haven't seen the video for the new "Mask of Creation," click here: https://www.facebook.com/LEGOBionicle

Scroll down when you click on the link, because recently Lego posted some new things about NYCC, which I was extremely excited about until I realized that tickets were sold out.

But of course, this isn't "Justin cringes upon his ignorance and hopes desperately someone uploads videos on Bionicle in NYCC"; this is where I want to hear your opinion on the new Mask Attachment.

Like was said, how the mask attaches won't make or break anything. I'm completely open to new things, even mask attachments. I took out my old Rascus head/mask and it doesn't flip around crazy but is rather quite secure, so that doesn't seem like it should be a problem with the new masks (but there's not a guarantee, it could work slightly different depending on how the head works).

I'm not making any judgements on the 2015 sets until I physically have my Tahu in my hands. But I would like it if the old masks and heads fit the new masks and heads & vice-versa.

Elemental Rahi in Gen2, anyone? A write-up for an initial video for a G2 plot

I really wish everyone would stop trying to play join the dots with Gen 1 and Gen 2 though,it seems there's a couple new threads everyday and often they're duplicates of already existing conversations! Or simply parallel them with a slightly new 'twist'! Gen 2 is NEW, it is NOT Gen 1 and it is NOT a continuation. Outside of the characters we already have I personally don't want to see ANY old characters return. I think it will cheapen the whole experience to those of us familiar with the original line...

True, but in this case we're not judging the sets themselves but rather elements of the future sets that may be inconvenient for some. I'm sure the designs are will be amazing either way but some the head attachment is the one thing we have the most understanding of and it seems like it may or may not be bothersome.

Though it's still good that you're not jumping to conclusions about what things will be like until you actually have the sets. It's like saying whether or not a movie will be good or bad before one has even seen it. It just doesn't work that way. Now if only the CCBS haters would understand that...

Yeah, I'm imaging something similar to Cragger's jaws.

I'm dubious as to whether this is solid evidence on a new mask attachment, however.

Can you think of any other point to having plain, inconsistent bars with little nubs on them on this mask, that just so happen to rest right against the headpiece? I'd say this is the new connection, without a doubt.

I'm still unsure about it. For starters, it has anywhere from extremely limited to no backwards compatibility. Also, it seems like it would be much harder to MOC with than the old mask attachment, especially if it doesn't have the friction to stay still (and, since it appears to rest snugly on the head, it has no reason to have that kind of friction). I guess it's certainly a way to attach masks to heads, but I definitely prefer the old method.

Masks that easily attach to faces like that is a great idea and I am in total support, there's very little different that way compared tot he 2001-2002 masks. However, since folks seem concerned about MOCing, I'd say it would be nice to have a way to attach it to things the traditional way; they could do the thing they did with some of the later masks, with having a space to insert an axle in the mouth.

Well, for starters, it's possible someone could want to combine the look of an old head with that of a new mask, or vice versa.

idk I've always been a fan of backwards compatibility with things like this. It's nice to be able to choose the head and mask you want instead of having the two be intrinsically linked.

I thought masks covered up the head .-.

Well, as far as I can tell from looking at the released images (and...some others), it would appear they are like Metru heads, with a grey base and various colored eyepieces (yay!). If so, I'd have no reason to use older heads, as it isn't too hard to use a ball joint rather than a ball socket. (which, if you think about it, does have more realistic movement.

Still, it would be fantastic if there was a way to hook the aforementioned beams to the holes on the side of a Metru head. That way, we actually get some backwards comparability, even if it would involve a few extra pieces.

The glatorian helmets are weird, and not Kanohi. I see no reason to include them in a discussion on Kanohi. Also the Garai leaves the mouth open, though that's the least of that mask's problems.

I had interpreted the worries about the new system's MOC restrictiveness being less about not being able to mix and match new masks with old heads as much as the fact that you would only be able to use the new masks as masks, since the way they attach is pretty much unique. Older masks and helmets have almost always been able to be used in any way you want (as long as they fit...), commonly, for instance, as simple armor wherever. If they can only attach to one specific head part, that restricts things a lot. It's kind of the problem the Inika masks had, except, well, the Inika masks are just on a weird league of their own...

Well, I've seen it propositioned that the new connection could slip into any two axle holes two studs width apart, like on a Y joint, but since the new masks seem to sit snugly against the head with no wiggle room, I see no reason for them to have the kind of friction that would be required for them to actually be much use attached like that.
