Bionicle Tabletop RPG

Stumbling across this topic reminded me of a bionicle tabletop game that I ran about 7 years ago in high school.

Luckily I still have some of the character creation pages and various character sheets, including toa, skakdi, and rahis pages, but I'll have to look some more for the game mechanics pages.

I'm not sure how much these would help with the work you've done so far, but it couldn't hurt.

Nice!! Thanks for the Aid. Have to let the main parties check it out. I am just a low ranking aid. Meaning I have no prior table-top RPG gamming experience.

This is why I need to check here more often. I was so excited when I started helping but I have kind of lost it. I promise to check here more often

 

 

Not sure if we are actually going to use much of this stuff but we would love to have your help. This system is well developed, you certainly seem very smart. Feel free to help Malauk. Here (once again) is our official rulebook, as maintained by me and Akavakaku. (Link) As you can see we already have a rudimentary character sheet. There is a lot of extra junk on there, if it isn't on the character sheet ignore it. I am going to do a clean up as soon as I can find some time.

 

Also, what you have mentions an experience system. Would we want some sort of Experience/level up system in our game? I certainly would like it.

 

One more thing, don't feel bad Prowl. There are only three of us right now.

Are there normally level-up systems for these type of games? I don't see why we could not have some form of advance and reward system in place allowing for increased gear or skill in certain tasks. Though if one is not too careful one who works long enough could make a Matoran stronger than a Toa through feats and experience alone...

I'm all for having my Matoran character be able to tangle fairly with a Toa, though asking if the types had more balance got hit hard with a "Matoran should never be able to beat a Toa" type deal. Anyway What good is an RPG if you cannot advance your character some how? Most RPGs I play(Non-tabletop) Have some form of level up system in place...

So, than.  The most basic idea would be that beating opponents earns your character experiance.  Once you get enough experience you level up and you can (somehow) increase your stats and/or abilities.  We would just need to decide how much experience was needed to level up to each level.  When designing the oponents (as in general monsters like rahi, rahkshi, and vahki to name a few.  This is something we will have to do toward the end of the designing process) we would use the levels as a reference and, baised off of the monsters difficulty level, assign an appropriate number of experiance points as a reward for defeating it.

That is a nice and desired concept, So now how do we implement it? Or should we just file it for end game? Cannot really calculate exp values on Mobs that don't exist yet...

Well I would think if said game required evolving into a Toa and then Turaga I would think that maybe that could me an option. Though forcing a player to change their Matoran to a Toa doesn't seem fair. So we'd have to compile a list of general rewards followed by species specific ones. The most common would be I'd think boost to stats. What are they called Elite classes? Could be something to shoot for...

Yes, stat bonuses mostly.  Toa would probably get extra elemental stats as their species thing.  I also had and idea for how to do the disk throwing matoran that involves leveling up.

Well if we want to add the Konohi disks into the game I could possibly see a Matoran using more powerful disks. the power levels go up to 9 on a single disk. So I could see something like allowing a Matoran or any range character to be allowed to use/craft more powerful disks while also providing bonuses to range rolls. Being physically weaker than Toa or possibly most Rahi it would make sense that a Matoran would want to keep at range if at all possible, though close combat bonuses could still be of use. I mean both Onu and Po Matoran have increased strength as a passive elemental bonus, so while I may not see a Le or Ga Matoran going head to head with a wild Rahi or alike, the prior two could be. Not to mention Ta-Matorans are known warriors....

If you are looking at "Mele-Toran" you could try doing something involving the tools the Voya Nui matoran had. The Le-matorans shreader-claws could do extra damage.  The Ga-Matoran's blades could use stamina to boost the stats of your allies. But that is getting off topic.

 

 

Well, so far the idea seemed to be that characters could earn points to put into their skills, such as fighting, building, and so on.

 

The simplest way to do that would be to award skills points every time the character levels up.  Than also award extra, less common, stat bonuses as well as bonuses baised off of species and such.  Toa would have greater energy and vitality so they can use their elemental attacks better (for example).  These may not be stat bonuses but instead modify skills (Like a disk Matoran getting a stronger/new disk).

Sigh, i know.  Trying to focus on making them INTERESTING to play as.  Maybe we should just focus on Toa and leave other species out until we have a playable prototype and we test it out.

Well that could work I guess. instead of taking the whole project on at once lets start small. Maybe general mechanics and gameplay. Followed my simple character design... So Toa it is then?

So, is this still getting worked on? It seemed fairly interesting; sadly, I don't think I'd be able to help at all. The only experience I've got with tabletop RPGs is a grand total of 3 sessions in an on-going campaign of 5th edition D&D as a DM, and since the system you're going for isn't too similar to what I'm used to... yeah.

Well TakumaNuva from TTV has his own game desighn, I am going to read it but I haven't yet.  It looks pretty complete so I was kind of giving up on this project, no offense guys.
