The LEGO Movie 2 Pushed Back to 2018

Recommended Posts

Comicbook.com reports that at a shareholder meeting yesterday, Warner Bros has announced rough release dates for three upcoming LEGO movies. Two of them we already knew, Ninjago being slated for September 23, 2016 and the Batman movie for 2017, taking up the spot which was previously reserved for The LEGO Movie 2, which has been pushed back to 2018. With Chris McKay, who was originally supposed to direct it doing the Batman movie instead, it's yet unknown who will do TLM2. Ninjago will be directed by Charlie Bean, with a script by the Hageman brothers who are already writing the Ninjago TV series. After a break of LEGO movies next year (with BIONICLE webisodes to compensate), the bricks are coming back in 2016 with full force!

Huh certainly makes me worry about TLM 2, if it keeps getting passed around who knows what the final product could look like.

Could just mean that TLM 2 will get more time to perfect. Or they just focus on the Batman movie first. If that thing flops, we'll have to wait two years for something hopefully better. It would be so bad if TLM 2 flopped even harder.

The movie is far away enough from production that juggling it between people (and dates) isn't really an issue at this point.

Anyway, it looks like WB really wants to keep LEGO as a really strong franchise. Hopefully they don't lean on it too much, though, and they are able to produce other hits outside of it.

I know it's not a problem at the moment, all I'm trying to say is that it's now a possibility that the movie could screw up.

It's time to move on.

Well there's always the possibility that the movie will fail to deliver. That's the reality regardless of who's at the helm.

Well what if they got Micheal Bay as director, I think if it was directed by the guys who did the first one(I forget their names)then the movie would probably be a lot better.

P.S No Micheal Bay is not directing TLM 2.

It's time to move on.

Initially, I thought the proposed release date was far too close to the release date of the first and not have production very rushed. A think a year extra will be very beneficial.

Speaking, of course, as someone with no industry experience or knowledge.

Well, it depends on how wisely they use their timetable. Will they just use the extra year as a means of working on just the Batman movie rather than both that and TLM2 at once?

It also depends on WHY they chose to advance the Batman movie and push the LEGO Movie back. Has anybody considered the possibility that the sequel concept they have for The LEGO Movie might need the human actors (namely Jadon Sand, who played Finn) to be older, and they conceived and fast-tracked the LEGO Batman movie so that they would not miss out on the benefits of having a LEGO animated feature in 2017?

That's a good point. I hadn't considered that, but seeing as one of my own most promising ideas for a Lego Movie sequel involves Finn going through his "dark ages" and beginning to lose interest in Lego as a teenager (resulting in Emmet's creativity failing him and him falling back into his old, dull routines), that might very well be a factor.

I've never really had high hopes for TLM2. I think the first one was simply too good for them to be able to produce a sequel that even remotely compares with it. This is somewhat good news, as they now have more time to think of a good script. To me, the screenplay was what made the movie though. I'll have to reserve judgement for when I actually see the movie. :P I just hope they don't squeeze the franchise dry... :m_p: :l: :e: :a: :s: :e:   :m_d: :m_o: :n: :t:

Aw, man. I have to wait another year for the sequel. The first movie was great.:( Well, anyway, I can see that there are too many things to do for 2017. Hopefully, the sequel will be great like the first movie because of this whole time.

I like this, more time to plan ahead and get a good final product and shows they're not trying to cash in the short term. Also probably a result of a large amount of high profile project Lego seems to have in the pipeline - moreso than ever before it seems.

If the LEGO Batman movie flops they may just cancel TLM 2, especially if they are having trouble findingsomeone to work on it. I don't think any of them will though, since it seems like almost anything put out with LEGO is a success.
