Bootleg Glatorian Reviews

I've acquired a few knock off Glatorians and I know some people were curious about them so here are some reviews. I'll post them one at a time as they come.

Mata Nui - Sand

First up we have our star "Star Soldier," Mata Nui.

Here are the pieces and instruction:

image_zpscfae7a5b.jpg

The pieces are all there with nothing missing or replaced. There are even a few extra pieces, like the official. The color is exactly as it appears in the image, a dark yellow. I don't have the official one on hand, but it appears to be the same shade. The instruction booklet looks to be a cut and paste of Lego's, although some bits were compressed (both legs shown at once, instead of one at a time).

Tada! Here is our Star Soldier Mata Nui. I am quite pleased with the outcome. At first glance, you will not be able to see that it's a knockoff. All the parts are completely compatible with the official sets. The joints are also quite stable, not too loose and not to tight. Some of my past KO sets had really loose joints (we'll see that later in another figure). The only visible flaw was the Thornax Launcher. I'll get into that a little further down.

And back:

The little ball pegs holding his thigh armor are black instead of gray in the official, but that's trivial.

Close up of the Life Counter. The print is much darker than the official one.

image_zpsba1e345e.jpg

And now for the launcher...

image_zps2998d7eb.jpg

...Yeah, that's how it is from the top. They don't line up. The pieces are much darker than the official, which I found odd, because my other Glatorian KO had them the official color. They're also made from a hard plastic. I thought it was some sort of metal actually when I first felt it, but it's just dark hard plastic. The Thornax itself has a silver band instead of black, and it still fits in the launcher, but it can't be launched. I will likely replace it with Bricklink. To specify, the misaligned flaw is in the launcher, not the hand. I swapped it with an official launcher and it was straight.

So there you have it, Star Soldier Mata Nui. :)

If anyone notices something different, please point it out.

Huh. I hate bootleg (it's not a nice thing to do), but it's interesting to see it being of such good quality. Aw well, at least you got yourself a fair Mata-Nui! How does the plastic feel?

Also I think it looks like the thornax has a different color stripe. The official is black, but in these pictures it looks kinda grey.

Yeah, it's got a silver band. The plastic feels really good, not cheap. I didn't feel like anything was going to break when I was putting it together. I usually wouldn't buy bootleg, but I really wanted to completely my Glatorians, so I bought the KOs online.

As I'm reading this I'm glancing at my Mata Nui set and snickering.

Star Soldier. It DOES kind of make sense.

Does yours look any different?

The only main difference is the mask your set came with. The eyes seem too wide I think. Idk it just looks funky. The eye part on the official set is much more narrow, but anyways I think this set holds up. And If I had seen it at your house, I probably wouldve thought it was just some slightly modified Glatorian Legend Mata Nui. :)

It's obvious that you just took pictures of the box from the internet, then took pictures of the REAL star warrior!

Hmm, are you sure it's not just the angle? Here's an official picture from Google. The color looks the same, maybe a bit darker on the official (lighting?). I always thought the pieces were recasted molds. I don't think they could go out of their way to make an identical one to such detail.

It appears that Mata Nui is actually a sailor, given that he has the "Mast of Life." Little did we know...

And as bioniclepluslotr potined out, he also uses his weakness as his weapon. :eyeboggle:

Also, according to the back of that box, Mata Nui is a part of the Sand Tribe. I had no idea Mata Nui was a Vorox! :P

Anyway, this actually looks like a decent ripoff. I don't own the real set, so if I were to see this in real life (built and out of the box), I probably would be fooled into thinking its the real deal. Thanks for making a review of this!

Star Soldier? Wow. And that Ignika is weird... or, at least the "man" on it.

You guys think the mask is a completely new mold? Seems far lengths to go for a bootleg.

New review!

Gelu - Ice

image_zps467e6ca7.jpg

The shipping process was not kind to the box.

image_zpsf1f304a1.jpg

Here is Star Soldier Gelu.

image_zps6bc3efa1.jpg

The first thing you might notice are the marbled pieces: the helmet and the weapons. It did not work out. I'll get to that in a bit.

The joints are much looser than the Mata Nui bootleg and any official figure. He stands by himself in a upright position but other poses make him fall down, which is sad :( The colors are faithful except for the marbled pieces. His Thornax launcher is also the correct color and lines up correctly, as opposed to Mata Nui's.

Ok, so here are the weapons (left) compared to the official ones (right) I got from Bricklink.

image_zpsdfc60c46.jpg

They can't get the marble colors down right. The KO pieces are an awkward and uneven blend of white and blue. It's solid hard plastic. The official ones are silver with a soft blue blade.

Here are the helmets. Bootleg on the left, official on the right.

image_zps904ca11d.jpg

Same deal, the KO one mixed throughout, while the official one was able to have a gradient. The KO one has a very very slightly more narrow visor. The official one has a large hole in the forehead that the KO lacks. Go figure.

Here are some comparisons of the socket and armor pieces. KO on left, official on right.

image_zps021fa46a.jpg

image_zpsea359614.jpg

As you can see, the socket piece colors are pretty much identical. The KO has a slightly different shape, meaning a new mold, but the dimensions are the same and match up with the official. This did not contribute to the loose joints. I use this piece with official ball joints and they were pretty firm. The problem is probably in the KO ball joints. The white armor pieces are pretty much an identical matchup.

The figure overall looks pretty good. The loose joints are a bit disappointing but most of my figures are displayed upright anyways. I Bricklinked the marbled pieces for a better look (I left his snowflake shoulders because the official ones looked pretty similar). Here is him with the updated official pieces.

I like how Gelu's weapon is 'a loner who can't count on others to help in a crisis'. Never knew people's weapon had personalities.

I guess this is what happened when Mata Nui accidentally crashed into Starsoldiera Magna instead of Bara Magna: he was 'adopted' by the sand tribe and become a sailor, and Gelu started employing a sentient blade (who is a loner) as his weapon. And Malum and Ackar switched bodies somewhere.

These bootlegs always manage to make me laugh. Which reminds me, come mid-2015 G2 BIONICLE bootlegs will probably start popping up in places. Now that'll be interesting. I imagine we'll  get DARTH SKULL SPIDER.

On Bota Magna, everything is about to fall apart.

I commend you for your work in the bootleg field. It's dirty work, but someone's gotta do it.

Is this a sarchasm?

I actually saw some Bionicle copies a while ago, and a few of them looked quite a lot like the 2015 Toa. They came before Bionicle's return.

Were they called "Hero Factory"?

Dirty Knockoffs trying to reap off the success of Bionicle, gah, the nerve. How did they get into official toy shops anyway?

Ok, finally got around to this. Here's Kiina!

Kiina- Water

image_zps7f4460cc.jpg

image_zpsd8ddaf91.jpg

As you can probably see, international shipping from Hong Kong was not kind to the packaging. Also, according to the description, looks like she's got the most useful weapon of the three so far.

At least the figure's ok! Here are the pieces:

image_zpsa0a6ed4b.jpg

And here is the figure:

image_zps9fdc685b.jpg

image_zps8fe3e40c.jpg

image_zps775bdd92.jpg

Ok, so I really like Kiina's build. I really wished I had gotten her when she was out in 2009, but I missed that so that's why I've been bootlegging Glatorians lately. I like the unique torso build. The model is as sturdy as the KO Mata Nui, meaning it's on par with the official ones. Gelu is the only one suffering from loose joints. The colors are all the same except for the mask, which is awkwardly marbled. There's too much silver on the wrong parts.

image_zpsec1e9b61.jpg

Compared to the official on the right:

image_zpsb3d45e37.jpg

Other than colors, the shape and mold seems to be spot on. Kiina also comes with the faulty misaligned Thornax Launcher, which I replaced with Bricklink. But overall, I am please I had this chance to get this figure!

No, I'm serious. Most of the people I know look upon bootlegged sets as evil filth that must be destroyed. It's nice to see someone who tries to see how they stack up to the real deal.

I HATE SCORPIOS

Malum - Fire

image_zps642cc6d1.jpg

image_zpsff247759.jpg

Same boxes as the others, got mangled by shipping from China though.

Here's the pieces:

image_zps53808bfd.jpg

And instructions:

image_zpsb7ba629d.jpg

And the figure:

image_zps136ab826.jpg

image_zps831dc13b.jpg

image_zpsfeb705c9.jpg

image_zps47bd8388.jpg

So overall, another surprisingly solid bootleg. Joints are a bit stiff, unlike Gelu who was super loose. So looks like consistency isn't a thing, but as long as they all stand I'm fine. He uses the same helmet as Berix so let's make a comparison:

image_zps93aafa79.jpg

Pretty much identical. Even the grooves and textures are exactly the same. The only difference is that the official mold has that circle in the back, and the bootleg doesn't. The marbling on Malum's helmet is slightly different than the official once, which is orange in the bottom and red on top, and the bootleg is mixed throughout, but I'm ok with that because it looks more like fire.

Now let's talk about the weapon:

image_zpsd1a2a031.jpg

Interestingly, the official sword is solid orange, but the bootleg one is marbled orange/red, which also gives it a more flamey feel. However, the whole assembly is super loose. The red connector peg doesn't even hold the pieces together, and they simply fall out. I replaced it with an official red connector piece and it worked, and it holds together now.
As for the Thornax launcher, same darker gray, but this time it's actually aligned properly, plus gray-striped Thornax.

Overall, pretty cool figure, glad to finally complete my Glatorian collection.
