Official BBC Contest #62: Up Up and Away! They're a comics company with a long history of producing cultural icons! They're a revolutionary building system loved the world over! They fight crime!Lego and DC have partnered up to release a brand-new theme based on DC's greatest heroes and most notorious villains. Sure, it may technically be set for release in the new year, but that's not going to stop us from having a contest right here, right now. When you've got over 75 years of stories and characters to go through, you need a headstart. By the time you read this, the universe will already have been punched so hard we're having this contest two months early. Don't worry: it makes more sense this way.I'll skip to the exposition. Your mission this month is to build a character from DC Comics. And that's only DC, guys. Might I remind you, over 75 years of creative ground to cover. Heroes, villains, grimdark 90s antiheroes, cool and trendy antivillains, as many or as few of them as you want... go for it.But that's not all! Get the polybags, because this is no hoax, fakeout, or dream sequence. This is the issue where I heartily encourage you to take your completed and posted entry and swing it over by the official Lego Superheroes site. There, they have a contest of their own, with some spectacular and astounding prizes, and I am going to suggest you submit your entries there, too. I think you guys might be just what this storyline needs. So get to the Batcave already! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Entries begin being accepted as soon as this topic is posted, and will stop being accepted on Wednesday, November 16th at 11:59 P.M. EST. We will accept unlimited entries for this contest, so there's no need to rush your entry. To enter, simply post a link to your .jpg or .gif entry picture in this topic. Your entry post in this thread should appear as follows: Entry Name:Entry Pic URL:Topic URL (if applicable): ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A running tally of entrants will be updated daily IN A SEPARATE PINNED TOPIC, which will be posted shortly after the first entries are received. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Voting Process: Preliminary Voting begins November 18th and ends November 21st at 11:59 P.M. EST.Semifinal Voting begins November 21st and ends November 23rd at 11:59 P.M. EST.Final Voting begins November 23rd and ends November 25th at 11:59 P.M. EST.The contest winner and final voting results will be posted in a separate thread on November 25th. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rules: 1) Your entry may not have been published prior to the start of this contest. You may make your own topic before posting in the official entry thread, but you must create a post in the entry topic before it is closed in order to be officially entered. If, after posting your entry anywhere on BZP but before officially entering it (including the blogs), you modify it and then enter it, you will be disqualified. You may only start one topic for your entry. Please post only one main pic in this entry thread and a link to the rest of the pics in the gallery on your image host (most likely Brickshelf, Photobucket, or Flickr). You can do pictures as normal in your own separate thread. If you need help posting pictures, please see this topic. 2) Don't PM the contest host unless you have to. Ask questions in this topic and the host or an assistant will answer it. 3) Painted parts are NOT ALLOWED. No non-LEGO parts. All other LEGO parts are fair game; however, for the most part, they should be Bionicle pieces and Technic pieces. Let's say, at least 75% of the MOC Bionicle/Technic parts. Pictures in which the appearance of the MOC has been edited in Photoshop or other editing software are also prohibited. If either method is used, the MOC will be disqualified. The background may be edited, as long as it does not alter the appearance of the MOC. 4) Only one entry per member. You cannot switch or modify models mid contest. Once you have entered, you may not "un-enter" your models and enter new or modified ones in their stead. You may opt to bow out of the contest for whatever reason but you cannot reenter under such a situation. If you get disqualified for any reason, you will not be allowed to reenter with another MOC in that contest. 5) Any flaming will result in disqualification from the contest. Competition is good if you keep it clean. Everyone play fair, NO WHINING, no insults. I reserve the right to DQ any entry at any time for any reason. 6) Absolutely, positively NO CHEATING! Anyone found to be cheating or even suspected of cheating will face immediate disqualification from this contest and will be banned from participating in future contests. They will likely also be banned from the site. Mods know this information, so you're not fooling anyone but yourself by thinking you can get away with it. We run a check on people with multiple accounts too, which is an offense that results in banning from BZP entirely, aside from the contest... DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. 7) No "this is unfair" posting. Some people have more parts, money, time, fish, gigs left on your hard drive, etc than others. That's life; we each have to do our best with what we have. Any excessive complaining may, at the judgment of the contest runner, disqualify you! 8) Discussion is encouraged. Feel free to ask questions about models you see or about the contest in general. This is for us, the BBC builders; let's have some fun with it. 9) The contest is open to all BZP members, and voting is open to all BZP members to participate in even if they did not enter an MOC. "Advertising" your MOC is fine by making a signature or avatar reminding people to vote for you, but mass-PMing is frowned upon and will just get you disqualified. Advertising your MOC in someone else's thread is also a major no-no. Spamming may result in proto loss or even post-count reductions, so don't do it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Prizes: Prizes will be announced at the conclusion of the contest.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Contest Hosts: Tufi PiyufiMcSmeag Contest Assistants: Taka-Tahu-NuvaAho-ChanArpyNuju Metru Well, what are you waiting for? Get building already!

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes!

Oh yay. I've been eagerly waiting for one of these ever since the forum went down; I found that I was lacking inspiration without a contest to direct me. I will eagerly be entering this one. So if it showed up in a comic published by DC, then it's fair game? Does that include the BIONICLE comics? (I doubt it, but I might as well ask... :P) Thanks!

Why does the entry period seem so short? :( I can't even get home to try and build anything until the 18th... And this actually seemed like a fun theme.~|ET|~

No no no no no no no :(
lol nice try there, that would have made things quite a bit easier :P
Especially for me. Bionicle comics are the only ones I've ever actually read. I wouldn't know a DC hero from a BC hero.

Am I correct in thinking that we aren't allowed to build a vehicle for our character?Count on an entry from me.- 55555

Vehicles aren't allowed, no.

DC?I'M GONNA BUILD SPIDER-Oh wait.Uh...Is Scarecrow a DC Character?

That he is. Just think about who hangs out with whom. Or fights with.

I will try this.BTW, is own-made fabric cape allowed?

No. Non-Lego elements still aren't allowed.

Why only DC Comics characters? I thought that Marvel was going to be part of the Superheroes line as well?- :t: :n:

The related contest is for DC characters only, so there needs to be a certain symmetry.

The short entry period makes me sad. However, I will try to enter this.

The entry period is as long as it's ever been: fifteen days. It isn't any shorter than usual.

I probably won't enter, since superheroes and comic books aren't really my thing and I'd only have two weeks (read: two weekends) to think of an idea and build it. Shame, since I was really looking forward to the next BBCC...ah, well. There's always next time...:t::b::3:

That makes sense. However: the Lego Superheroes website contest is for minifigure videos, not for Bionicle MOCs (or videos of them). We couldn't enter our entries for this contest in that contest.

Actually this is not true at all. Lego wants to see some Bionicle/HF stuff in this contest, which is not for videos at all. This would be revealed by actually reading the contest's page, that is to say, not just the first paragraph. Edited by McSmeag

I read the entire contest page before posting. These are the listed steps (on the website) for entering their contest:

HOW TO ENTER1) Create a scene featuring a character from the DC Universe using your LEGO Super Heroes Minifigures and/or other LEGO Minifigures in Superhero style.2) Take a photo, create live action or stop-motion video, or draw a picture.3) Upload your entry. Make sure to fill out the online form with your name, age and email address. (Note: If you are under 13, you will need your parents to submit your entry).

I will admit that I didn't acknowledge the options to take a photo or draw a picture, but the contest still explicitly says that it's for minifigures.

I read the entire page, including that. I'm not sure how that says that Bionicle/HF entries are allowed. But I can see that this argument is going nowhere, so let's just agree to disagree before we get too vehement in our bickering. On an unrelated note: I wonder what character Captain Marvel's going to build? :P

So Superman is OK? I'm no comics expert, but the great Wikipedia says he's DC. However, I always heard of him as Action Comics...

Superman is DC; always has been. Action Comics is the comic series that he first appeared in :)While we appreciate the help, please leave the question-answering to Contest Staff. This answer is correct, but we don't want to run the risk of someone answering something incorrectly. Thank you. -Smeag Edited by McSmeag

Would a bust of a character be allowed? And are we allowed to make a small piece of scenery for our character to stand on, like Batman standing on a gragoyle?Thanks.- 55555

Yes and yes.

I will try this.BTW, is own-made fabric cape allowed?

No. Non-Lego elements still aren't allowed.
ok, are DC villains count? like joker?
Since they're DC characters, yes.

What's the stance on digital MOCs in these contests? I didn't notice anything regarding them in the rules section, and I've never paid any attention to prior rulings on them.

Sometimes I forget we have enough qualifying virtual pieces now to make this ruling relevant. I'm not sure I've come to grips with it yet. But yes, they would be allowed.

BZP was specifically approached by Lego in order to get BIonicle/Hero Factory-based entries into the contest. They're fine.

So Superman is OK? I'm no comics expert, but the great Wikipedia says he's DC. However, I always heard of him as Action Comics...

Yep. Action Comics was just the name of the specific publication he first appeared in.

Are cut Lego stickers allowed?I seem to remember a few being used before in a previous contest, but I just want to make sure.

As long as they are Lego stickers, yes.

No vehicles? Darn it. I was hoping to take a picture of nothing, claiming I spent days making a moc of Wonder Woman's invisible jet.Anyway, I'm glad that my comic knowledge will come in handy. More of a Marvel man myself, but I still like DCQuestion: Are we allowed characters that appeared only on the Teen Titans TV show, but not in any comics?~U_K~

Haven't MOCed in a while with school and whatnot, but I can't pass up a contest with a theme I like this much! More of a Marvel fan myself, but I'm also a big Batman fan. I already have a couple of great ideas going for this! One question: Does it matter if we use movie versions, video-game based versions, etc, or does it have to be strictly from the comic books?EDIT: Scratch that, different question: Can the MOC be a character with a surrounding (but still connected) back/foreground? Say, a model of an object or building associated with that character? Hard to give a description without giving away my idea... :P
