An Assassin's Fate

So, I was kinda bored one day, and said to myself, "hey, why don't I make an epic in BZP about some assassin dude or something?" So I did. This is an epic about a Toa of Electricity that works as an assassin for the Dark Hunters. It's basically going to be like Assassin's Creed + Dishonored + Bionicle, so, if I write it well, it should be pretty awesome. By the way, here is the review topic. So, without any more rambling, I bring you...

An Assassin's Fate

Chapter I

Hiko was cornered. Her assailant, whom she did not know the name of, had backed her into a corner, hammer raised. Her attacker wore a golden crowned mask, seeming to radiate power and mystery. All of his armor was gold, with some blue, black, and white mixed in. His radiant blue eyes seemed to almost blind her. She had made a mistake coming here.

Hiko was a mercenary, wandering the world, accepting jobs to neutralize wild rahi and other threats. She carried a zamor sphere launcher and two swords, one acting as a backup. She is very skilled with swords, and is decent with crossbows and other ranged weapons. She tries to follow the Toa’s Code, but can get really angry. You don’t like Hiko when she’s angry.

At some point, she came across an island with an outpost located on it. One of her employers had told her to come here before and eliminate everyone there, though she could not find it. Now that she has found it, however, she felt an urge to finish her job. She entered, and attempted to sneak up on a gold-armored being, hammering away at something. However, he noticed her and managed to get her cornered.

Now, her armor is cracked, both of her swords ripped from her hand, and her zamor launcher split in two. Her only mask was the Kanohi Volitak, the mask of stealth, which could not help her now. Her elemental abilities had been drained hundreds of years ago, by a mysterious being that she still does not know the name of. She was utterly defenseless. It was her time to die.

Hiko saw her attacker’s muscles tense as he prepared to crush her with his hammer. Suddenly, he was pushed aside. Hiko recognized her savior as Tracker, a Dark Hunter whom she had known for a while, and was great friends with. Tracker and Hiko’s assailant battled on the other side of the room, though it was obvious to Hiko that Tracker was losing. His pet bull ran up to Hiko, picked her up, and ran toward the exit of the room.

Hiko looked back just in time to see Tracker explode in a brilliant burst of gold, red, and white. His murderer, the crowned being, stood with his palm facing the place where Tracker was just a moment ago. His bull kept running, and Hiko didn’t dare jumping off to confront the crowned being once more. He fired beams of pure energy and creation toward Hiko and Tracker’s bull, missing by mere centimeters each time. Finally, Tracker’s bull burst out of the room, scrambled down toward the beach of the island, and jumped onto a boat, where another Dark Hunter was waiting.

Hiko was speechless. She had seen death, but nothing quite so horrible as what she just saw. She vowed to get revenge on the crowned being, and the Dark Hunter manning the boat could see the pain, grief, and bloodlust on her face. He knew immediately what had happened, and sped the boat toward Odina, the island that houses the fortress of the Dark Hunters. The Dark Hunter manning the boat introduced himself as Amphibax, a Hunter that specialized in water missions.

Several hours later, they arrived at Odina. There, Amphibax took Hiko into the Dark Hunter’s fortress, and to the Shadowed One himself.

“Master, I have brought you a Toa. She appears to be the one Tracker was looking for. What shall we do with her?” asked Amphibax to the Shadowed One.

“Leave the room. Let me speak to her,” he replied.

Amphibax left the room, leaving Hiko and the Shadowed One alone in the throne room

“So, Toa, tell me. What is your name and who are you? Tell me everything about you,” he commanded.

Hiko wasn’t sure about this. She heard about the Shadowed One, and how he can obliterate you with a mere glare. However, she obliged, and explained to him, “I am Hiko, a Toa of Electricity. I am a mercenary, and I am skilled with many weapons. However, all of my equipment was nearly destroyed or completely destroyed in a fight, just a few hours ago. I wear the Kanohi Volitak, the mask of stealth. My elemental powers have been drained, so I can’t use them without something to amplify them.”

The Shadowed One looked surprised when he heard that last sentence. “Your powers have been drained..?” he repeated, under his breath, and then said to her, “Tell me about this fight you were in. What happened? Where is Tracker?”

Hiko flinched at the mention of Tracker, but she told him what happened.

The Shadowed One contemplated this. “So Tracker is dead?” he asked.

Hiko nodded.

The Shadowed One’s tone changed from patient and calm to furious and colder than an angry Toa of Ice in a blizzard.

“I will get you your revenge,” he said to her.

Chapter II

The Shadowed One had been desiring a new Hunter to act as an assassin for a while now, and it seemed Hiko might fit the part. He thought about this for a few minutes before talking to her.

“Hiko, if you want revenge, I can help you with that. I need an assassin for my ranks. Would you take this honor?” he said to her.

Hiko was surprised, and said to him, “Oh! Um.... are you sure? I’m not sure if I could be able to sneak around effectively.”

“But you wear the mask of stealth, and you seem to be shorter than most Toa. That, in addition to your self-proclaimed skills with blades, you should make a fine assassin. However, I will have to test you before I send you on a mission.”

Hiko could not argue with the Shadowed One’s logic too much. She agreed to his test, and he called in a Dark Hunter that Hiko did not know.

“Armorer! Come in here and escort this Toa to the training facility!” he called out to the Hunter, whom Hiko assumed to be Armorer.

Armorer entered the room and took Hiko through the fortress. The bricks of the walls, which she was too busy dealing with grief to look at before, were dark colors, mostly black or dark gray, with some tannish colors mixed in. Other Dark Hunters wandered about, talking to each other about how many Toa they’ve killed or how many Matoran they’ve captured, and other subjects like that. A few turned their heads to look in Hiko’s direction, but none seemed to show any real interest. They all assumed she was a new prisoner.

As Hiko and Armorer descended down the stairs leading to the training facility, the tiles used in the floor became darker. They were covered in scorch marks and other such scars of battle. There was even a rather large crack in the wall, which Hiko commented on, and Armorer simply said, “Gladiator gets really angry sometimes.” Hiko made a mental note to never mess with Gladiator.

The pair entered a separate room, a room much bigger that didn’t seem to be used for fighting. Boxes and crates, among other obstacles, lined the dark brick walls and the tiled floor. The ceiling was open to the elements, and it seemed a storm was coming. Armorer led Hiko up to a ledge in the room, where they could see the whole area. Guards were scattered everywhere.

“The Shadowed One has given you an assignment, which I will be telling you. You must sneak from here to the exit, all the way across the room,” Armorer says, pointing to the opposite side of the room. He continues, “he has requested that you do not use your Volitak and instead use a noble Akaku, which I will now give you in exchange for your Volitak. You’ll get it back later.”

Hiko reluctantly gave up her Volitak and put on the Akaku. She examined the room, using the mask's X-ray vision, seeing about triple the amount of guards she did before.

However, Armorer was not done speaking yet. “The Shadowed One says that you should silence any guard you come across, but do not kill them. Try dropping onto their heads and knocking them out. If you kill any, you’ll have the Shadowed One's eye beams to answer to,” he says, handing her a dagger and a scabbard for it, and then continues, “You need practice sneaking with a weapon on you anyway. Good luck.” And with that, he exits the room, leaving Hiko to herself.

She used her Akaku to survey the room, trying to make notes of all potential hiding spots and places where there were large concentrations of guards. She noticed a path that some crates made along the wall, which she decided to go to. She crouched down, slowly making her way toward the boxes, looking below her the whole time.

As she was looking down at the guards below her, she heard footsteps nearby. She nearly panicked, but managed to hide behind a crate. A guard walked past her hiding place, and she leapt forward and wrapped her arm around his neck, choking him. After a few seconds of struggling, the guard fell, unconscious. Hiko crouched back down, looking around frantically, searching for any other nearby guards. She saw none and continued on her way.

Soon, she reached the end of the path of boxes, and had a choice to make. She could either attempt to jump to another pile of boxes or jump down onto the ground and try to sneak past the guards down there. The nearest box pile was quite far away, and the second closest was near the entrance of the room. After some though, she decided to try the jump to the box pile.

She waited until there were no guards nearby, then she got right up against the wall, and then ran toward the edge, jumping at the last second, and just barely grabbed onto the edge of box pile. However, she knew she couldn’t climb up. The side of the box was completely smooth, so she had no footholds to help herself climb. She thought as fast as she could, nearly losing her grip once in the process. Finally, she came up with an idea, though it could be risky, depending on what was in the box.

Holding on for dear life with her right hand, she pulled out her dagger with her left, the side of her hip that she kept it on. She dug the blade, sideways, into the box, creating gashes in the side. She managed to get her leg high enough so that she could get her toes just barely onto a gash, and she managed to climb up the box. However, there was a problem.

The box she was now standing on began to shake. She heard a mighty roar from below her, and she almost lost her balance. She heard the sound of protodermis being ripped apart, and then she saw a rahi burst from the box she just climbed up. It was a Kane-Ra.

Hiko knew now that she was totally screwed. She had to kill or subdue this rahi or she would fail, and she had to do it before the guards got here. With the roar that the Kane-Ra made, Hiko assumed the guards would be here within seconds. She looked around frantically for something to distract the Kane-Ra with, and saw a shred of protodermis. She threw it at the beast, getting it’s attention, and she ran across the boxes, the Kane-Ra following behind her on the ground.

Soon, she came across the edge of the box pathway. The bull was directly below her, and, using her Akaku, she could see guards running toward them. Hiko hated breaking the Toa’s Code for something like a rahi, but she had no choice. She unsheathed her dagger once again, and jumped down, dagger raised. However, the beast raised its head to the sky, toward her, and opened its gaping maw. She fell right into its mouth, and at first, there was silence. Then, the rahi bellowed in pain as Hiko carved her way from the beast’s body using her dagger. Blood covered the floor and her armor.

Swallowing her self-disgust, she sheathed her dagger and ran away from the guards. She made a mad dash for the exit, hiding behind crates as often as she could. She eventually made it to the exit, and sprinted up the stairs, where Armorer was waiting.

Armorer’s face was expressionless, but he says, “You did decently. They didn’t know you were there, but they were very aware that a rahi escaped and that it was killed. However, the test is not over. You will do the same again, but this time, you will have access to both the Volitak and the Akaku. Good luck,” and with that, he brings her back to the entrance of the room, where he gave her back her Volitak.

Hiko repeated the training again, but did it with much better results this time. When she finished, Armorer took her back to the Shadowed One and left her with him.

“So,” said the Shadowed One, “You have passed my tests. You appear to have what it takes to be an assassin. You can keep the Akaku, by the way. I will get you some new armor, a new sword, and I will upgrade your dagger. Please hand your dagger to Forger,” and with that, he called in Forger, a Vortixx from Xia that has been hired by the Dark Hunters to be their personal blacksmith. Forger entered the room, and Hiko handed her dagger to him. A few minutes later, Forger came back into the room, carrying the dagger, a rather large sword, and a new set of armor.

Hiko donned this new armor, which was blue, white, and silver, and asked the Shadowed One, “What is different about my dagger? Also, how am I supposed to be sneaky with this huge sword?”

To this, the Shadowed One said, “There should be a button on your dagger now. About your sword, you should keep that on your back. It might be about the same size as your body, but if you carry it the right way, it should be difficult to actually see it.”

And so, Hiko did as the Shadowed One told her. She pressed the button on her dagger, and the blade unfolded to create a crossbow, infused with lightning.

“That crossbow shoots bolts of pure, raw, electricity. You could call them lightning bolts." The Shadowed One smiled at his joke, and said, "I'm quite proud of that pun. It could be loud if you hit certain things with it, but it should knock anything unconscious, if it doesn’t kill it. Press the button again and it’ll fold back into a dagger.”

Hiko pressed the button again and sheathed her dagger. Then she examined the sword and noticed there was a button there as well, and pressed it. Lightning ran up and down along the blade, giving off an eerie light and partially recharging Hiko’s elemental energy.

The Shadowed One smiled and said, “This is no ordinary blade. It deserves to be named, with an ability like that. What shall you call it?”

Hiko thought about this for a while, before finally saying....

“Denki."

This is starting to get interesting...

Erm... well, first of all, only the topic starter is supposed to post in the topic where the story is. Everyone else is supposed to post in the review topic, which you can find a link to near the top.

Secondly, I haven't updated this in a long time. I wrote the first two chapters and then got distracted by things until I pretty much completely forgot about it.
