Story

---------------------

King Sekatala sat on his throne in New Atero. Being the ruler of Spherus Magna was quite... mentally taxing, even for a being of his intellectual capacity. So many individuals on the planet, and so many thought without logic.

Logic meant a great deal to Sekatala. Every decision he made in his life was based on it.

Pure. Sensible. Logic.

Sekatala was not from this world. In fact, he was the saviour of his reality's Matoran Universe. He was the only Makuta who stopped Teridax from implanting the virus in Mata Nui's systems.

After all, there was no logic in taking over a universe when there was someone more capable of doing it already ruling it. Unfortunately, Sekatala's right hand Toa Hagah had disagreed. The Toa Hagah nearly destroyed the Makuta and exiled him to this universe.

On the brink of death, Sekatala had found an empty mechanical body the Bara Magnans were building, and saved himself at the last second by having the mechanical shell contain his antidermis.

The Bara Magnans were awe-inspired by the Makuta's power. They began to treat Sekatala like a God. The Bara Magnans were so impressed by Sekatala's power and intellect, that they crowned him the official King of Bara Magna.

For years, King Sekatala ruled Bara Magna, bettering the lives of it's inhabitants. Eventually, Mata Nui had returned and restored Spherus Magna. Luckily for the King, he was familiar with the Matoran, Toa, and other Matoran Universe inhabitants, and was able to persuade them to join his Kingdom.

Now, King Sekatala ruled over all. Everything was perfect.

Until the idiotic rebellion formed.

Sekatala really found them silly. They were a group of individuals who believed in beings being able to make all their own decisions. A shame they didn't see that multiple beings doing what they wanted would lead to chaos.

The rebellion had become a thorn in the King's side. For the sake of order, they have to be eliminated.

Suddenly, an idea formed in the King's mind.

Back in his native universe, he had been working on a device to grant beings access to other elemental powers. The working title he had for the device was the Makoki Nui (meaning “Great Key”).

King Sekatala recorded the blueprints and schematics of the device all from memory. Over the next few days, he had his engineers manufacture the Makoki Nui. The device was shaped like a projectile launcher, with a bulbous core and a narrow emitter for the elemental energies. Now he just needed a test subject.

In order to test the full capabilities of the Makoki Nui, someone with some sort of imperfection was needed. This was because the Makoki Nui also improved the subject as well as grant extra elemental powers.

Sekatala remembered that Sir Jalokim, one of his eldest Knights, had been suffering from mental illness for the majority of his life. Perhaps the Makoki Nui could fix that, as well as improve other things?

King Sekatala sent Nylehsa, one of the Knights of New Atero, to wake and send Jalokim to him.

Sir Jalokim entered the chamber and knelt before the King.

“Your Majesty, you summoned me?”

The King rose from his throne and strode over to Jalokim.

“Indeed I have. I've been needing someone to test a device of mine on, and you are perfect for it. Tell me, does your mental illness bother you?”

Jalokim thought about it for a minute before answering.

“Yes and no your majesty. Though it makes my life a living nightmare, it gives me certain advantages.”

“Such as?”

“The ability to look at a situation with minimal bias, and the power to use logic at all times.”

“Well then, if you do not wish for me to cure you of this, then I will not. You sure you won't take this opportunity?”

Jalokim shook his head.

“The voices are a part of me, to get rid of them would be to change who I am. You might as well kill me, it would have a similar result. Curing me enables me to miss my intelligence.”

“Ah, death is a mercy to you, is that true?”

The Knight nodded.

“Well then, my machine will improve what you already have, as well as grant you new abilities. Do you accept this gift?”

Jalokim bowed.

“Of course, your majesty.”

Sekatala smiled and strode over to the Makoki Nui. The king picked up the device, aimed it at Jalokim, and before the Knight could react, blasted him with a beam of energy.

Sekatala watched as the Knight's armour began to shift and change shade. Claws formed on Jalokim's hands, the grey in his mask changing to a jet black, as other parts of his armour that were once silver also darkened. His heartlight turned a blood red.

Sekatala marvelled at his handiwork. Jalokim was already a fine Knight, but now, he was better than he was in his younger years.

“Are you alright Jalokim?” the King asked.

The Knight looked at his claws. Shadow energy crackled from his fingertips.

“I've never felt better, your majesty.” the Knight responded.

Sekatala smiled. Excellent.

“Very well, let us proceed with testing your new abilities, shall we?”

“Of course, your majesty. How shall we proceed?”

The King thought for a moment. He decided the best way to test these powers was in combat. There were plenty of soldiers to choose from. Sekatala had given each Knight command of their own legion. Jalokim could perhaps pick one of his best soldiers to spar with him.

“Choose one of your soldiers, Jalokim. He or she will test your new capabilities in a combat situation. Once you have chosen, I will send Nylehsa to retrieve this warrior.”

Jalokim bowed.

“Thank you, my liege.”

The Knight paced as he thought about his decision. There was one warrior he had in mind. A female Toa of Fire who liked to keep her name a secret. Instead, she went by the alias of “Asher”. Jalokim was rather fond of Asher, as both of them suffered from mental illness, though she had more of a personality disorder rather than Jalokim's form of psychosis.

“Asher is among my best warriors, she shall provide me with a challenge.”

“Very well, she shall be summoned.”

* * *

Asher strode on her way to the King's throne room. Apparently, Sir Jalokim had summoned her for a test. But what kind of test? She would soon find out.

She took a deep breath before the doors to the throne room, and stepped in.

King Sekatala saw the Toa of fire walk in. She wore bright red and silver armour , and also wore a mask of scavenging. She walked with confidence towards him and Jalokim, her dark red dress swaying.

“You called?”

“Indeed, his majesty needs you to test something.”

“...and that is?”

Sekatala gestured over to Jalokim.

“I need you to test Sir Jalokim's new abilities.”

With that, the King nodded at Jalokim, and the Knight advanced toward the Toa of fire, readying his sword. Asher sprang into action, pulling out a blade of her own. The Knight lunged, sending a bolt of shadow energy in mid-air. The Toa of fire dodged the incoming attack, and hurled a ball of fire at Jalokim. The Knight absorbed the flames with the power of his Kanohi Hau, the mask of shielding.

“I see you've learned a few new tricks.” Asher said with a smirk.

“We're just getting started...”

Jalokim slammed his clawed fist into the ground, using his control over earth to send shock waves towards the Toa of fire. She jumped and flipped through the air to avoid the attack, but was hit by a pillar of dirt erected by the Knight.

Asher's impact with the pillar and then the ground was so great, she was barely able to stay conscious. Sekatala decided that the female had had enough, and called off the Knight.

“Impressive display Jalokim, it seems like the transformation had no problems.”

“Of course your majesty, but what about Asher? She is my finest warrior, it would be hard to replace her.”

The King thought about it. He concluded that it was an opportunity to use the machine again in order to restore the Toa of Fire and even improve her. Two skilled Toa enhanced with shadow powers would be a dangerous combo.

Just what he needed to eradicate the resistance.

“Jalokim, I have an idea which involves Asher.”

“What is it, my liege?”

Sekatala smiled. “Why have only one enhanced Toa, when I can have two?”

“Of course your majesty, but may I ask, why wouldn't you just grant all of your soldiers such abilities?”

“That would be too risky, not all beings are mentally capable of handling such power, and that would put me at risk of losing all power. I can handle two shadow enhanced Toa, should they choose to rebel, but not a thousand.”

Jalokim bowed. “Of course, that is only logical.”

“Would you kindly stand her up?”

The Knight nodded and lifted Asher to her feet. She groaned, any kind of movement was painful. Her eyes widened as King Sekatala took aim with the Makoki Nui and blasted her with it's energy. The Toa of fire's body shook and spasm-ed as the bright red in her armour turned a blood red, parts of her silver armour and her dress turned black, and her bright green heartlight and eyes turned a dark, shadowy green.

Jalokim let go of the re-energized Toa of Fire. She examined her new look, and grinned.

“I always did love black, it's so.... mysterious”.

King Sekatala stepped up to his elevated throne and took a seat. Using some of his elemental energy, he cast a shadow over the two Toa. He spoke with a commanding presence.

“My two, loyal subjects. I task you with spearheading the operation to destroy the rebellion which threatens the peace that we all strive so hard to maintain. You are permitted to use any means necessary, as order is the most important thing a society should have. If you fail, you will be tortured for approximately 10,000 years, do you understand?”

Jalokim and Asher bow in the shadow of the King.

“Of course, your majesty. We shall not fail you.”, Jalokim said.

“We will have fun with it, that is for sure.”, Asher said with a chuckle.

King Sekatala smiled. He was confident in the skill of these warriors. Soon, order and logic will cast it's shadow over all, blinding the fool's stupidity.

Good days are coming, oh yes.....
