Why has Mata Nui slept only a decade? Why do they wear human clothing? Are they humans? Should I have made it clearer? No offense, but you're the first person to say that. Spoiler, highlight it: [Mata Nui was woken up by Infernum, that is revealed later in Book III which is almost complete. Infernum's "God of the dead" is just a title.
