Hapori Tohu
LEGO Movie directors and writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller recently appeared on Episode 137 of the Empire Film Podcast and talked about the upcoming LEGO movies. Brick Fanatics pulled out some interesting quotes, confirming that both the Batman and Ninjago movies exist in the same universe as The LEGO Movie. It also looks like we're going to see a lot more facets of Batman, based on all the movies that have come out over the years. I'm looking forward to hearing more about these films as they get closer! Votuko
So all these movies are set within the basement LEGO collection of one particular American father? I'm not sure how I feel about that, if that is what the "same universe" means. It was a good plot twist, but I imagined they would do something different in the later LEGO movies so that were were still surprises... Plus does that mean that the Ninjago Movie will actually be non-canon with respect to the TV show?

And this doesn't stop there from being any surprises in the new movies. Unless the meta-narrative of how the relationship dynamics within that family shape their play is integral to the stories told in the new movies, it might not even influence the stories one bit, any more than a typical movie set in the real world would be shaped by how our universe came into being or what materials it's made of. 1 Quote Latest MOC: PAIGE (Prototype Artificial Intelligence, Gynoid Expression)

Another thing to think about—even if the metanarrative IS a significant part of these spin-off movies, the same universe doesn't necessarily mean that it's the same basement or the same family. Perhaps their next-door neighbor is a Ninjago fan. That said, I expect the spin-off movies will not involve the "real world" at all, and the stories involving that will be reserved for the "true" sequel(s) to The Lego Movie. Toa of Gallifrey
This certainly is interesting. I wonder if this means Ninjago is canon within the TLM universe, or if this is just a sort of alternate Ninjago from the meta-narrative. (while we're on that, does anyone know if the Ninjago world in Lego Universe was canon? I'd guess not but idk). Interestingly, if it was, it could hint that the Bionicle G1 universe can be canon in the TLM universe (and if they choose to add G2 as well, that'd make them both canon but in different worlds). Probably overthinking this but eh. xD #Vezon4TLM2
TheSkeletonMan939
So... the Ninjago movie won't be part of the TV universe?
Toa Smoke Monster
The Lego Batman Movie has a lot of material to work with, so I think it could be great if used in the right way. Anyone else want to see how they use Christian Bale's Batman in the movie? I think he could lead to some funny scenes in the movie. As for the Ninjago movie, I don't know what to think about it at the moment. The article doesn't say that it isn't connected to the Ninjago TV show, but I don't see how it could take place in that universe if it is taking place in TLM universe. Unless the Ninjago TV show also takes place in TLM universe. That would be kind of mind-blowing IMO. Of course, I really doubt that is the case here. I guess we'll just have to wait for more information before we know if it does have a connection to the TV show. Quote Everyone is one choice away from being the bad guy in another person's story. Torchbearer
They better not be. I swear, this is going to absolutely decimate NINJAGO to me. They don't even share the same artstyle! And if the NINJAGO movie WILL share the same artstyle as TLM, then I'm not going to bother watching it. Couldn't care less about it in that case. dotcom
I never really expected the Ninjago movie to be related to the tv show, at least not in any meaningful way. After all, the Ninjago movie will be released theatrically, and it'd be difficult to make a successful film with wide appeal if it had to incorporate the already developed cast and plots from the tv series, which most people probably don't follow. Not to mention that, while certainly the best Lego has made (and it is not bad), it's really not that amazing a show, and, besides the music, there's not a lot from it that would really benefit the movie much. Even if it follows the same basic plot and has the same base characters, I'd prefer to see them develop in a new way. I'm definitely looking forward to whatever interpretation they come up with, really. And the Batman movie sounds like it could be very fun.
