Ian and Luey Hoare's recolours (+ Von Nebula!)

Am reposting these recolours after my previous topics were closed. As far as I can tell there was no reason for this and I hope it does not happen again. I have however tried to put more of an emphasis on the ownership of these designs this time and hope this will avoid any future misunderstandings. Below is a snippet from the BBC forum rules and guidelines which perfectly covers the reason for my posting these images;

Only post your MOCs. You may only post a topic for a MOC somebody else made if they are a friend or family member of yours and they do not have an account of their own.

A quick origin story for these builds first: A collector friend of mine named Ian sort of hijacked his son Luey's Bionicle collection a number of years ago and developed a serious interest of his own! Between the two of them they once owned literally everything there was to own and he's only recently started selling up to fund other collections he has. After Ebaying much of their collection he offered the remainder, including his personal creations, to me. I happily accepted and suggested we shared his own builds here which he said would mean a lot to both him and his son. In fact he almost changed his mind about letting the recolours go but I've always liked them and promised they would get a good home so here they are!

So this first creation got some interesting comments last time round and I hope people will see it again and continue to discuss it. Ian told me they wanted to build Von Nebula with the pieces they had from their etensive Bionicle collection and this is what they came up with. I think it's a pretty impressive job personally, the shoulder spikes are pure genius! Apologies as always for the poor images. I need to get a new phone and give my tablet a break I think...

Net up is my favourite piece, the Kardas dragon reclolour! This is fairly obviously a monotone Kardas dragon with all the coloured parts substituted for black or silver. It also has glow in the dark eyes instead of the usual trans-orange and I think it makes the whole thing a lot more serious and scary than the normal multi-coloured Kardas! I do think it could use a little more silver to contrast the black as it does get a bit much in places. Things I'd make a priority would probably be the teeth and wings (from Brutaka's set) The torso could use a little something to break it up too though and maybe silver Vahki legs in the arms to make the hands pop a bit more.

What do you guys think to this epic recolour?

Last up is Botar, the combiner created from Axonn and Brutaka's sets. Interestingly I've never seen this set built before, whatsmore I don't think I even knew it eisted as a combiner until I came into possession of this beast as it's only displayed on the Axonn and Brutaka boxes and I didn't own any until yesterday! I gues sit must pop up in the back of their instruction manuals too but I never saw it...

Botar has far more silver on it that black so I think he pops a bit more than the Kardas dragon but it could be a little too much of one colour here! What do you lot think about Silver Botar? What would you change?

I'll be sending a link to this topic to Ian and Luey later so let him know what you think to their work! Currently Von Nebula is living on my dining room table and the two recolours are by the tv in the bedroom! Gotta love glow in the dark nightmare kardas staring at you while you're trying to sleep! I can't see any reason for this topic to be closed so please enjoy and comment if you wish! Thanks to Ian and Luey for these great sets and best of luck to them in their new collections! T

As far as I can tell, the topics were closed because these aren't your MOC's. If Ian ever builds anything else, I'd recommend having him create an account and posting them himself.

Back to the topic, they look rather interesting, and the color scheme is one of my favorites, if not slightly off balance (I feel that the silver in the Botar recolor is a bit too prominent, and that the Von Nebula recolor is washed out by the grey). I'm somewhat impressed at his success in actually recoloring them. Aside from that, however, I'm not exactly impressed because they are just recolors. I'm interested to see a more original build by Ian, though.

Sadly this was the last of his collection so we won't be seeing any more from him. It's also why I'm posting these on his behalf as he's unlikely to start up a profile now that he has no collection left! However I think there's still a love for the material in him so you never know, it may be that he'll feel the need to create an account when he sees these proudly displayed and can take over the topic for himself!
