R2-D2 Could Have Starred in The LEGO Movie

Recommended Posts

You read that right. As Phil Lord and Chris Miller (you should be aware of who those guys are by now) have revealed in an interview on Yahoo a week ago, they planned to give R2-D2 a role in the level of Batman's, figuring they could do that because R2 doesn't require a human voice actor, but ultimately film rights got in the way. The interview also details how they wanted the film to feel more like a fan film than a toy advert and how they struggled with the ending. It's a short but interesting read for everyone who watched the movie and looks forward to the sequel.

It would've been interesting to see how they would've used R2 in the movie with that kind of role. Its a shame that film rights got in the way of that.

Though that does make me wonder why R2 couldn't be shown but Han Solo and the others on the Millennium Falcon could appear in their cameo in the movie. I guess some Star Wars characters have different film rights from others.

Everyone is one choice away from being the bad guy in another person's story.

Wasn't there a script that was floating around earlier this summer that was supposed to be the first draft of the movie? I know a lot of people at the time claimed it was a fake, but it included things like Benny with his mop and King Karl with his KRAZY KASTLE, which were both mentioned in the movie's commentary on the DVD... and I remember R2D2 playing a role in that too. Now I'm thinking maybe it wasn't so fake...

Whoa! Maybe he'll appear in TLM2?

No way. Disney owns Star Wars and Warner Bros. is producing the Lego cinematic universe. That's why R2 wasn't in the first LEGO Movie. That's why you never saw any Marvel heroes in The LEGO Movie, only DC - Disney owns Marvel too. Film companies hate each other, and don't want to merge their properties very often. There are exceptions, of course, but I doubt this film will be one of them.

Seeing as the first movie managed to have cameo appearances from C-3PO, Han, Chewbacca, and Lando, along with the Millennium Falcon itself, I see no reason to assume a similar Star Wars cameo or even a more extensive one would be out of the question in the second movie.

It wasn't the first draft, but certainly an early one. It was done by Lord and Miller (and was quite possibly their first draft), and they didn't join onto the project until a while in.

believe victims. its actually not that hard, and youd look kind of bad if you were to, say, side with an abuser because theyre your friend
