How should the main protectors be named ?

I Exist

Recommended Posts

Should they be named in tribute to the Turaga, or to honour the Inika ? Or like the original tohunga ? Or should they have totally new names ? What are your thoughts ?

If they are given names, I think I'd prefer new ones to ones honoring past BIONICLE characters. After all, they're not based on any G1 characters visually, and unless they're based on G1 characters in terms of personality, there's not much to be gained from inviting those kind of comparisons.

I'm not one to think that they absolutely need names; However, if they recieve names, I'd like them to be new ones.

(unless they named them after the chronicler's company or the mctoran or something, that'd kinda be cool in my book)

but yeah new names if any, plz

In traditional Ta-, Ga-, Le-, Nu-, Po-, and Ko- order, here goes.

Furan, Protector of Fire

Vatra, Protector of Water

Buli, Protector of Jungle

Arden, Protector of Earth

Stendar, Protector of Stone

Eska, Protector of Ice

These names are simply my best guesses. Use them if you like, ignore them if you don't.

Elemental Rahi in Gen2, anyone? A write-up for an initial video for a G2 plot

I really wish everyone would stop trying to play join the dots with Gen 1 and Gen 2 though,it seems there's a couple new threads everyday and often they're duplicates of already existing conversations! Or simply parallel them with a slightly new 'twist'! Gen 2 is NEW, it is NOT Gen 1 and it is NOT a continuation. Outside of the characters we already have I personally don't want to see ANY old characters return. I think it will cheapen the whole experience to those of us familiar with the original line...

A couple of those are actually real nice! Furan sounds the coolest to me.

I couldn't think of a good name for the Protector of Ice. I'll give it a little thought. The Protector of Stone needs a better name too. I'm happy with the first four.

Perhaps Stendar, Protector of Stone and Eska, Protector of Ice.

I was specifically trying to avoid using the elemental prefixes while still basing the names on the elements. Does the name Eska sound better?

I think they should have new names, I don't see any of them reminding me of any of the G1 bionicle character but maybe Jaller Mahri, so the Protector of Fire could have Jaller name or think of what Jaller would name his kids :P

But I another idea is to give them names of character in the G1 that wasn't any big, to give those G1 Matoran like Nixie, Azibo, Kivi, NOT GARAN and my favorite Jaa to have some light.

Well, assuming they actually have personalities to go along with them, I think we'll have to wait and see. The Masters seem very akin to the Mata in terms of design and personality, but the Protectors look unlike anything we've seen before. If they are pretty much the equivalent of the Turaga or Matoran, then I wouldn't mind them having the same names.

I'm surprised it took that long for someone to come up with that joke. I used the Afrikaans word for tree "boom" (not pronounced like it looks, English) so decided on Buli after Bumi came into my head.

I will never forget when MNOLG II had some of the Matoran names derived from Finnish. Someone at TLG most likely grabs Google Translate and we'll end up with oh-so-original characters Tuli, Vesi, Viidakko, Maa, Jää and Kivi. :D

A lot of the Mata Nui Online Game names are actual proper names taken from all kinds of languages (including Japanese, Finnish, Latin, Greek, and even English), and some of them are surprisingly hard to find on the Internet. So it's quite possible that either LEGO, Advance, or Templar has a hard copy encyclopedia of proper names from around the world, or something to that effect. It's the kind of thing that could certainly be useful to any one of those companies.

Well, we've had similar language thingies come up in the past. In Russian, Lesovikk means "he, who resides in the woods", and Lariska isn't an uncommon name. I'm Ukrainian, and the two languages are really close (e.g. Lesovikk vs. Lisovikk).

I wouldn't be surprised if they gave each village the naming scheme of having just the first letter in common with their respective Toa. It's a balance of mnemonics and name diversity. And if they don't name them, I'll call them Talai, Goya, Pakhoro, Odara, Lanui, and Kamadi. The Fire elder can be Tonoku.

I noticed you listed Eska as well. Any chance you are a Legend of Korra fan? ^_^

I'm definitely part of the group that wants to see some new names, though. Hopefully we get them early on, because saying Protector of blah blah blah can be quite a mouthful.

Yes, but I haven't seen past the first season. I don't have the capability to download entire series at once... I meant for it to be pronounced Ay-ska though.

Where do you think I got the name from, besides Steen, the Afrikaans word for Stone? I'll give that name some thought, if people are going to start using them as Fan Nicknames.

Am I the only one who sees the comparison with j and the original Turaga? The scene with The Fire Protector standing before Tahu, wearing a black cloak and holding a black flame staff just yells Vakama to me. Vakama wears a cloak in the movie version, to me they are just more hip battle ready versions of the Turaga, perhaps they were never Toa. But that doesn't mean they won't get new names, but I still feel like there is some Vakama in there somewhere, see the animated short video if you don't know what image I am referencing.

I have a strong feeling that they'll either be named for the McToran or the Turaga, though I hope that they'll come up with new names for them.

I'd actually like them to release very small sets in a Happy Meal or something and pass it off as a free villager. Those would end up being named for the McToran.

I'd be okay with new names or old names either way.

If I had to choose old names I think I'd go for the mctoran route. Hewkii, Jaller, Onepu, etc.

Tiribomba would be nice though...

Indeed it was really strange that these charakters did not receive names and just have been called "protector of ...".

Hopefully in the story we learn their names and maybe we'll also see other villagers and hopefully these protectors will also get mask of power.

Their masks seem just blank ... Maybe all inhabitants of Okoto don't have different masks. Which would make the Toa appear more outstanding.
