Film Trilogy Soundtracks!

Recommended Posts

It is a great tragedy indeed that some of the best music from the BIONICLE line is nearly impossible to find in decent quality, if one can find it at all. Nathan Furst’s score for the film trilogy, while glorious, is rare and hard to find, especially since his website went down several years ago.

But fear not; I have returned from the space between dimensions to bring another great addition to your music library. While I’ve previously provided such gems as the soundtrack to MNOLGII, the Templar animations, and even The Legend Reborn, no audio project, BIONICLE-related or otherwise, has required so much meticulous editing, listening, re-editing, and then re-editing again. That’s right, ladies and germs; I bring to you the holy grail of BIONICLE music: Nathan Furst’s score to the trilogy.

“How?” you ask. “How, great skeleton from beyond, did you do this when no other mortal dared to (except Twister92 a few years ago)?”

The film trilogy has a DTS 5.1 surround sound mix, one of the most dynamic sound mixes I’ve ever had the displeasure of encountering. Years ago I tinkered with the sound mix, and was disappointed to find that sound effects and voice echoes pervaded every channel. After skimming through the file, I gave up.

A few months back I revisited Mask of Light while compiling a new version of the BioMedia Project’s audio archive (version 2.1; you’d laugh if I told you how many months Vahkiti and I were working on that). Upon closer investigation, I found that some of the music was salvageable; I just had to edit out the sound effects. A lot easier said than done; sound effects could fluctuate from the right front channel to the left rear channel, and I’d have to edit that out while keeping volume consistent.

Each soundtrack is roughly forty minutes. Yes, there are sound effects, but I strove to not include any material that contained dialogue. It’s all still quite listenable; you just have to ignore some of the louder SFX.

Not all of it is from the DVD; the WayBack Machine preserved Furst’s old website, as well as the BIONICLE audio cues he’d stored on there. Furst also posted a couple tracks on his SoundCloud.

This is encoded at MP3 VBR-0; the artwork is by my good buddy Vakhiti. Well, enjoy!

Tracklistings:

Mask of Light

Legends of Metru Nui

Web of Shadows

"But where can I download it?" you shout, shaking your fist at the computer screen like a lunatic. Here you go. It also includes The Legend Reborn, so you get four movies for the price of three.

By the way, this was all done for the BioMedia Project's new audio archive (version 2.1). If you're a music fan I recommend checking it all out.

Remember to say thanks!

Wow! Very nice. Shame that there are still some major sound effects present, but otherwise very clean edits. This is really good quality. I appreciate all the work you have put in, not only with compiling the music but also with the album art and track listings.

Fantastic work. Thank you very much, and now I can finally enjoy the music in nice quality.

By the way, didn't Nathan Furst say himself like 2 years ago that he'd make an EP for the Bionicle OST?

Fantastic work! This will come in very handy during the ANP Project :)

EDIT: The images you have for the three movies have inconsistent titles. Only Legends of Metru Nui has the words "Original score" in its title. Not sure if you find it worth changing, but I have OCD. :P
