IcarusBen
I'm trying to build Bionicle mocs in LDD, but I'm having some issues, namely; LDD doesn't have any good gearboxesIt doesn't really support the Inika buildThe lack of Inika build chestpiecesNo head for the Tahu or Hydraxon head (my alternative is a 180* connector with the little peg hole in the middle with Tacho 8 attached as an eyepiece. It's awkward.Any alternatives to the gearboxes are clumsy and awkward. Are there any good solutions to this? IcarusBen
Thanks, Makaru. Hey, you're a MOCist, can do you have any suggestions? Click
1. I believe someone on the forum put together an LDD that has parts in the equivalent of a gear box, but I don't know where to find it. Try searching around a bit. I've also seen a lot of clever alternatives online. I bet you could figure something out 2. Well, you're stuck with Hero builds or custom builds. Actually, taking a second look, the Inika torso is actually in LDD, but custom builds are more interesting anyways. 3. There's plenty of other parts to use available to you. Take a look at what other MOCists like Ballom can do with an Inika build. Still, custom designs are easier to armor exactly how you like and are generally better received. 4. That is a bit of a problem. I suppose you could use a Brain Attack head, or just build a custom head. 5. Take a look around and see if you can find any better solutions, or just keep at it. I've seen a few solutions that are no bulkier than the part coming out next year. Hope that helps. IcarusBen
I found an alternative design to the gearbox (you can see it in use here; http://magnusnui.blogspot.com/2014/12/toa-jorik-toa-of-gravity.html) or in this picture here;but the rest of my problems remain. Aanchir
IcarusBen's custom gearbox is a nice design that simulates the proportions of the gearboxes of the new Toa. And I'm sure there will be an update next year that adds the gearboxes from the new BIONICLE sets. Older BIONICLE gearboxes may be added eventually, but they're probably not as high a priority as more current parts. The Toa Inika torso is one of the easiest classic BIONICLE torsos to create custom armor for, so I don't think the lack of original Toa Inika chestplates is a huge hindrance. Those and other classic BIONICLE parts may be added in future updates. The LDD team's goal is to eventually have a near complete palette of LEGO parts. But that is still an extremely far-off goal, and certain specialized BIONICLE parts might not be an immediate priority. I think the best head you can get for the Hau or Hydraxon's faceplate currently is a Glatorian head turned on its side, like in the Von Nebula set. I actually think this works slightly better than the Av-Matoran head used in the original BIONICLE Stars version of Tahu anyway, as far as proportions are concerned. One problem with that gearbox design: the gears are locked. IRL, you'd need to remove the innermost gear to get them to actually turn. My brain just went "Duh... 4 is better than 3, dohohoho!"
