Chapter one:

It happened so quick, from the death of Makuta, to the founding of New Atero. The Toa of Iron sat in his hut on the outskirts of the city, the shock still gets to him, it took him nearly a Cycle to come to terms that his "universe" had really been a giant machine, what did that make him? He flipped open a panel on is fore arm, exposing wires enmeshed with synth-muscle. "Is this all we are, Toa and Matoran? Just someone's pet project?" He thought. A subtle knock on the huts outer wall interrupted his thoughts. He locked the panel back in place and looked at the door. "Why do you even bother?" He said, seemingly to the air. "Thought I might be polite for a change." Just then a cloud of particles came in through the huts cooling vents, it materialized into a tall and lanky being, covered in green and black armor and possessing four limbs. "You? Polite? Never knew you to be a jokester." Said the Toa. The being was his "friend", a member of a race who inhabited one of the southern islands. As most beings found there facial structure unnerving, they often had to wear helmets. This one had chosen to wear an old Maxilos faceplate he scavenged from "Mata Nuis" corpse.

The two made their way to New Atero, the Toa hated coming here, it was infested with the small natives called "Agori". Their musty smell burned his olfactory sensors, his friend, however, was most likely trying to decide which ones looked the tastiest. "So your sure this guy has it?". The Toa asked. "You'd be surprised at how much some one blabs out when their dangling by one limb over a plasma vat." The Tall Being said. They arrived at a large warehouse, which was being used to store equipment from Mata Nui. They walked through banks of machinery until they reached a dead end. The Tall Being shifted to his particle form and moved through a crack in the wall, when he reformed, he was holding a silver sphere in his lower hands. "My contact thought it too risky to meet in person, so he hid it here, where only I could get it." He passed it to the Toa, who held it up and turned it, he pushed a triangular shape on its surface, and a beam of light shot up to the ceiling of the warehouse, forming a map of the planet. The Tall Being looked at the Toa. "Make ready, my friend, our quest begins..."

After having obtained a means of transport, the pair rode across what was left of the "Bara Magna" desert. Aside from a run in with strange tailed natives, it was quite a boring trip. "Don't you just love the smell of silica on the breeze." Said the Tall Being. The Toa gave him a look of distain. "Well, looks like someone doesn't care for the outdoors. You Toa are all the same, duty first, pleasure second." He continued. "Excuse me for not being thrilled with sand." The Toa said, the rest of the trip was made in silence. The Suns were setting just as they had reached the mouth of a large cave on the side of a cliff. The Toa had gotten out of the transport and walked to the edge of the cave. It was easily five times his hight. "Wait here, I don't want more of those sand primitives following me in." He said to the Tall Being. "This sis something I have to do alone." The Tall Being gave him a nod and turned to his particle form and vanished on the wind. The Toa grabbed a lightstone out of his bag and headed deeper into the cave. The first sign that this was not a natural cave was that the floor was unnaturally smooth. The hexed was when the stone ended and metal began. What had started as a limestone cave gave way to a metal tube.

The glow given off by the lightstone reviled that the metal was decorated with markings. Some he could make out, others seemed to defy understanding. One showed a Toa-like shape changing into a form of transport. "What was that suppose to mean?" He wondered. He noticed that all the shapes seemed to be coming from a single spiral design. A portal? But a portal to where? If he could find it, could he use it to find the ones who treated his kind like machines to be toyed with? Could it be used to take his kind far from this dust ball of a world? So many questions, but one thing was for sure, his best chance of answering them was at the end of this tunnel. And now more determined than ever, the Toa ventured deeper in...
