I will definitely be bummed out if we don't get recolors of the Toa masks. However, it looks like that will be the case. As I mentioned in a previous topic, I would be happy if they released mask packs that aren't random - say, five dollars for the red pack, which contains all six Toa masks in red. It's just wishful thinking though, and I don't think we'll see anything of the sort.

I would be really bummed out if we didn't get any way of recolored masks. Well, I would love it to be at least semi-random. Maybe have a set of certain masks or certain colors. Example: I want a white 2015 Miru, so I would either buy a white mask pack or a 2015 Miru mask pack and hope for the best.

Complete randomization would be fun, though.

I'd say around the price of the minifigure packs we have right now. Hopefully we might see something like this, heck it doesn't even have to be random mask packs, something, just ANYTHING, all I want is just a white 2015 Miru.

It would not surprise me one bit to see more recolors of the six Toa masks in the future — perhaps future versions of the Toa might have blended or transparent versions of them, for instance. However, I do not know if we'll ever see sets return to having all six masks in all six colors like the classic mask packs.

There are a couple reasons for this. For starters, randomized mask packs are one of the only ways you could financially justify releasing thirty brand-new recolors in one fell swoop. Additionally, the masks' powers in the new storyline are tied to the Toa's elemental powers, so releasing them in colors that don't correspond to the correct element would be an odd decision from a storytelling perspective. And finally, the Toa's masks are basically their faces. It's one thing for the villagers and Protectors to share masks, since their mask design has been established as a common design from the very start. It's another thing for Toa to share masks after people have already learned to associate the individual characters with the individual mask designs.

Yeah, I get what your saying. Maybe they could make it so the actual packaging itself would sorta be out-of-story, like a MOC mask pack or something like that (just a thought)? Also, nobody's saying it has to be canon, I'm sure if Lego actually wants to do that, they won't let the story interfere. I'm just hoping they bring back one of the aspects from the old days.

i agree that it'd be great to have mask packs back, but since Lego hasn't said a single word about them, i think it's safe to assume that there won't be any.

Who knows, Summer 2015 might hold some surprises. :)

I say that we get packs of the Islander's masks.

In The Legend animation, it is stated that Ekimu and Makuta made many masks for the inhabitants of Okoto. Why not integrate that into small collectible sets? The variants of the masks should probably be different melds, I guess? Like with some black and trans-green or red and trans-purple masks. It would be great for adding a little differentiation, and it would fit the portrayal of the islanders that we have seen so far. But I still think we should get different shapes.

So, the collectible sets should be about three different masks with a Skull Spider. Why not? The Skull Spiders seem to be mask hoarders, so it would make sense, and it can build up your personal Skull Spider army.

That's a brilliant idea. I would LOVE to have some original/new mask designs that aren't the toas' or the protectors'. Maybe Lego could use some designs from fans from a contest?

Oh, yes. Certainly.

If not, they seem to be doing fine with the mask designs that are both new and pay homage to the original. They should make masks similar to the original Turaga masks now.

That ruins it in my opinion. The great thing about collectibles is the unpredictability. You wouldn't have as much joy if you got a set with the Vahi in it than a set in which there is a 0.001% chance of getting it.

I would love mask packs comprised of new color combinations of Protector masks, would definitely be useful for MOCing and would love mighty pretty as a collection. They could go all the way and add silver and gold versions to the mix, so we could get Ekimu and Makuta colored masks, too.

While I would like to see that, I would also like to see masks created by the community or just masks that never really made it into production, maybe the rares could be prototype versions of the masks released in the 2015 sets or ones from a contest hosted by Lego.

I think Mask Packs are a great idea! 3 different versions of the Toa's masks, and one variation of a Skull Spider head.

Well there should definitely be more than just that, while I think that's AWESOME.

Toa Variations (recolors?), Skull Spider Variation, Protector Variations, Ekimu & Makuta mask packs.

I would really love this to happen, it would save me tons of money from buying multiple toa over and over.

It also opens up the possibility of recolors, and we all know how much us MOC'ers love those. :)

Frankly, I think mask packs of recolored villager masks would be even less successful than mask packs of recolored Toa masks. The sets we're getting ALREADY contain six different blends of the main Protector mask, one in each main elemental color. The number of people for whom that's not enough... well, I think it'd be fairly limited, to say the least.

And while I'd personally love single-colored villager masks so that the Protectors would retain their uniqueness if I chose to build an assortment of villagers, I don't think simpler, less visually interesting versions of existing masks would be much of a draw for buyers. I'm not the target market—I'm a mega-fan who plans to assemble as complete a collection of the new theme as possible. Most people might buy one or two sets, and if it turns out that they want more masks than that, they'll keep buying sets until they're satisfied. And once they've gotten every set and they still want more? Well, they'll have to wait until the next wave of sets like everyone else. At that point they're dedicated buyers and fans, and it's in Lego's interest to keep them wanting more rather than overwhelm them with a collection that might take years to complete.

Yeah, which is why we were saying that maybe the mask packs could contain various different masks that Ekimu & Makuta made. They don't have to be the Protectors' mask molds.
