The Great Beings, the Three Virtues, and the Destiny Question

Some things the Toa Velika topic got me thinking about:

1. The Great Beings taught the Three Virtues to Mata Nui, who then taught them to the Matoran (and other beings in the MU), but are the GBs themselves subject to them?  Do they possess destinies?

2. Can they manipulate the destinies of other beings?

3. If Takanuva's destiny had to do with a civil between the Great Beings, was that destiny ordained to him by Mata Nui?

4. Could that destiny have been forcibly changed by the GBs, even though it applied to them/their actions?

5. If the GBs are subject to the Three Virtues, how are their destinies ordained?  Is there a higher power, or powers, beyond the GBs?

I'd love to hear your thoughts, because I have no idea what mine are at the moment!

1) I imagine the Three Virtues are just a programming artifact: Unity: "Work together or the GSR will fail". Duty: "Do your job, or the GSR will fail". Destiny: "Emergency subroutines, in case the GB is going to fail".

2) If Destiny for MU is a programming artefact, it depends on whether they can alter MU programming now that the MU is gone. Perhaps Velika tinkered with his Matoran body's destiny to make sure he didn't become a Toa before he wanted to.

3) Velika trying to rule the world and the other GBs seeming relatively friendly to the MU inhabitants (despite letting Marendar out, Sheesh) the Civil War seems inevitable. However, his destiny couldn't be a programmed Destiny, unless a GB foresaw a war coming if Spherus Magna was Reformed.

4)  :shrugs:

5) Velika, being at least physically a MU inhabitant, certainly has a Destiny, but the other GBs? Unlikely. Maybe they have a destiny, but in the same way we have a destiny; an end result of our life's works.

Elemental Rahi in Gen2, anyone? A write-up for an initial video for a G2 plot

I really wish everyone would stop trying to play join the dots with Gen 1 and Gen 2 though,it seems there's a couple new threads everyday and often they're duplicates of already existing conversations! Or simply parallel them with a slightly new 'twist'! Gen 2 is NEW, it is NOT Gen 1 and it is NOT a continuation. Outside of the characters we already have I personally don't want to see ANY old characters return. I think it will cheapen the whole experience to those of us familiar with the original line...

The way I see it, is that there are two kinds of destiny in the bionicle universe.

1. Protodermic Programming goals, which cause the inhabitants to unconsiously move towards the assigned goal. This is the sort of destiny the Great Beings installed in Mata-Nui, which allowed him to know about destinies. This also contributed to Teridax's takeover, as he was destined from the start to eventually take over.

2. True Destiny, which is a little more unclear. When the inhabitants of the matoran universe became sentient, then were able to start forging their own goals, and strive for things the Great beings could never predict. This has less to do with individual motivations, as it does the overarching state of the universe. As all the desisions and acts are carried out, things trend towards different conclusions, and so the "Destiny" in UDD is a reminder to the Matoran to always think about consequences, and to think in the long term. It is this second one that the Great beings, and indeed everyone, is subject to.
