Hapori Tohu
The first CGI trailer for BIONICLE has been spotted on TV, featuring lots of Skull Spiders, Kopaka doing cartoon physics, Tahu surfing on lava and of course the Mask of Creation. The Three Virtues was able to record it and have uploaded it on their YouTube channel. Read on to watch it! Tahtorak ate my house!
The trailer feels like BIONICLE and looks EPIIIIIC!!! Interestingly the Toa's tools are sorta treated as energy-launchers, like the Protectors' stud launchers. Quote Your left brain contains nothing right, while your right brain contains nothing left. Boidoh
But can't they channel their elemental powers through their Toa Tools? Sybre
Haha, at the end, Tahu was all, "Gimme dat." and nails The Lord of Skull Spiders in the face while just walking at a normal pace. That was plain awesome. Quote mindeth the cobwebs
Munty
Hey that's very nice! Kudos to the folks who recorded this, and also the guys who made it I guess I prefer conventional weapon use to the projectile mode shown at the end but I guess it's a way of somewhat subtly suggesting ways to play with the sets to it's target audience. After all, guns beat swords in today's action figure market place I think! Kuurai
Very interesting indeed! The laser light show from the Toa seemed out of place though; seems kind of cliche too imo. *Pew!* *Pew!* 1 Quote "It's all a trick, you see. They want me to pretend to betray them. Jakura Nuva
Not too bad - definitely harkens back to some of the old commercials, and the music is definitely epic. However... lasers. I'm not sure if they're supposed to be shooting their element or not, but that "pew, pew" sound really seems to point to lasers. Whether it's canon or not, I don't like the effect.
gunconvoy
Oh the sweeet nostalgia, it almost hurts. But that is cool, glad to see that trailer.
bohrokman
Reminds me of hordika in a way. Not sure what to think of the laser effects. Quote Here came the bride all dressed in white I wish it was red then you all be dead
Kek
Glad to see some CGI promos returning. In other news, a teaser for the fourth Webisode has surfaced on Bionicle.com. "The Protectors Fight Back." Some further characterization for the little ones, perhaps? Quote Signature Guidelines: Image size may not exceed 250x100 combined or 468x60 combined. Aanchir
I don't like the laser sound effects, but the visuals are just fine for elemental powers. And the final broadcast version of the ad will probably have a voiceover over top anyway so it might not be quite so noticeable then. The animation is very cool in general, but I'm glad the story episodes are going for a more cartoony, expressive style. Set-accurate CGI is all well and good for a commercial for the sets, but in the story videos we've already seen things like the adorable junior villager of fire, Tahu's crazy Skull Spider smackdown in his character video, and the Lord of Skull Spiders' angry hissing that might not have looked nearly so cool in CGI. 3 Quote Latest MOC: PAIGE (Prototype Artificial Intelligence, Gynoid Expression)
Flex Lord Splash
I agree the laser sound effects are confusing and out of place, the action was dope though the the Toa are kicking some butt here which is nice. Interesting how the LoSS grabs the Mask of Creation, I doubt that is canon, but you never know it could be. Toa Smoke Monster
I'm glad Bionicle 2015 got a CGI trailer like this. It reminds me of the old days of Bionicle's past. Here's hoping we see more trailers like this one in the future! Quote Everyone is one choice away from being the bad guy in another person's story. Kyori
Oh my, I hadn't realized how much I missed Bionicle commercials until I watched this! I'm so happy to see such an epic return. :'D I agree the lasers give an out-of-place Star Wars vibe, but meh, this isn't the first time there's a non-canon odd detail in a commercial. Crunchyn
Last shot of them running definitely reminds me of Transformers Prime. Quote "I could have been a Protector but then I took a stud to the feet."
Rooster Nui
The laser sounds don't actually bother me that much, now that I've seen the commercial around twenty times on YouTube. I haven't spotted it on television and I don't think I ever will with the current setup. Even without narration, I think I favor this commercial over a lot of the ones shown in Bionicle's original run. Munty
These lasers are getting too much attention IMO. I'm pretty sure they're just there to make things exciting for the kids as, after all, that's who they're advertising to! Toys with swords are ok but kids love lasers. Everything has lasers now... Lord of the rings has a great following right now thanks to the Hobbit trilogy but I bet there are a load of Gandalfs out there whose spelld sound just like lazors in the hands of today's kids ... Nidhiki of the Shadows
Awesome commercial. Always loved the CG videos, this one is definitely really great and also feels cartoonish at the same time, which fits the aesthetic of the webisodes. Kopaka, Lewa, and Tahu kicking Skull-Spider butt looked way too cool, though I wish Gali, Onua, and Pohatu would get their own 30 second ad. Overall awesome to see the return of CG toy ads. Definitely brought back some memories. -NotS
Axilus Prime
This. This is what new Bionicle needed. That looked awesome. If only the other animations were in CGI like this. But we all know that's not happening unless Lego seriously changes their animation plans. Still, I hope to see much more of this kind of thing. I didn't mind the laser sounds at all, though I did notice them.
Lenny7092
I love this trailer! It looks epic and awesome! Reminds me of the old Bionicle days. Ah, good times! I love the 3-D animation in there. It feels classic! I love the action and music, too! Hopefully, we'll get more like this soon. Quote I like Lego, Bionicle, and Hero Factory! BioniCro
Hahaha! Had me smiling happily all the few seconds it lasted! Epic, great music, wonderful vibrant colors, even seemed a bit violently edgy when Lewa struck the skull spider with his axe. Loved it... Loved it, loved it, loved it! Bricknave
If they find the right voice actors, they would have everything needed for a 30-minute BIONICLE TV special! Or two. Or three. Or four. Or five. Or six ...
user-402520536
Kopaka's epic 'Eww spiders die die die!!' reminds me of the nearly iconic Furno 2.0's 'Jetpack mode pew pew pew!!'
Adventurer
Pretty good trailer - had the right "Bionicle" feel to it imo, however I do agree it would have been better with some sort of narration or dialogue. 1 Quote Credit to Pohuaki for the awesome banner! Nescent
The trailer is very cool, and I hope dialogue is added to it. The grey sky is the only visual aspect that I don't like; it makes the whole video look like it hasn't been rendered or something. Also the bit with Kopaka floating, but I guess that's no big deal. Towards the end of the video, you can see Tahu stretch open his hand which looks interesting.
Pohatu: Uniter of Stone
I disliked the laser sound effects, but I liked how you could see they were shooting their element, not lasers. 1 Quote I HATE SCORPIOS ~Pohatu Master of Stone, 2015
Toa TAK
Excellent. This is what I was waiting for. The lazers being shot of out of their weapons reminds me a lot of Bionicle Heroes, so I won't complain about that feeling a little out of place. Tanu Toa of Earth
Um, ew. The lava surfing was neat, but the rest of it felt horribly generic, and honestly more Hero Factory or Chima than BIONICLE. I mean... Pew! Pew! Pew! was never really a BIONICLE thing, and I was happy about that.
Takuta-Nui
Looks like a good time. Seems there's some controversy over the sound effects, but at least that doesn't affect me. Cool to see the Masters in action with the Skull Spiders. These features can be great for giving us an idea of the kind of tone, but television adverts can really change some elements to make it seem different since they only have 30 seconds to make an impression.
