Getting a bit of a "Temple of Doom" feel from this one. Looks like some one is trying to make the golden power.

At some point you realize that you are but a speck in the Universe.

That you time in this worlds is but a blink.

You see the whole of reality as it unfolds before you.

You try to see how far you can reach, and it’s not that far past your face.

But then you come back from the brink.

You hold them in your arms again.

And you know that you are where their world begins.

Nice, really liking where they're taking this season. (It's also giving more explanation to the sets.) While I am sensing a lot of Temple of Doom here, I'm also reminded of Kumata's Tournament of Shadows epic. Although I guess this trope has probably been used plenty of times before.

It also seems that Kai is starting to lean more towards the dark side with his trickery in the first challenge. I wonder if they’ll take this and make him a new Vakama-like traitor?

Thanks for posting the videos here!

Perhaps he might be leaning towards the dark side just to impress Skylar. I wouldn't be surprised if Kai turns evil with Skylar just as Vakama sided with Roodaka. This brings up the question "Why do the red ones turn evil?"

I've actually quite enjoyed these recent episodes. I like the other episodes, but these new ones actually make me excited for the next one.

Why do the red ones always turn evil? Why do the white ones always die? :P

So I guess toxic waste is confirmed as an element in Ninjago now? :P Or maybe just acid is an element now. Also, if Ninjago has Ultra Agents characters and Solomon Blaze is in Galaxy Squad, that means Galaxy Squad, Ultra Agents, and Ninjago are all in the same universe. Let's call it the Ultra Ninjago Squad Universe. :P

Really enjoying this season so far. Definitely more than the past one. Just. It's a lot less high-stakes and thus we're seeing a bit more about the specific characters which is very nice. The plot also is really intriguing, and I like how we're learning more about Garmadon's past and such. (the Ninjago timeline is a messy mess) Definitely keeping me interested.

Also, these episodes are giving me a mighty need to collect all the Elemental Masters. I count 16 (not counting Lloyd...) but so far we only have 7 in sets (Or, like, we will. In March. Right now we only have the ninja. Kind of.) , 9 with the Ultra Agents characters. Hope the summer wave delivers on some of the others. We also recently got news that there's going to be another exclusive minifig-in-book for Ninjago next year. Seems like a good opportunity to give us an Elemental Master. My hope is on the smoke guy. Alternatively, Skylor in tournament robes would be pretty neat. I don't think her hairpiece exists in that color physically, so any way we can get that is good.

Oh, and. I'm kinda confused on something. If the current Masters have elemental powers because they're descendants of the original Elemental Masters, how does Zane fit into the whole thing? He's not human, so it's not like he could inherit anything from the original (presumably human) Master of Ice. Then again that brings up the question of where the original Masters got their powers in the first place.

So Ninjago, Galaxy Squad, Ultra Agents, & Collectable Minifigures are in the same universe.

And Clutch Powers is too.

And Clutch Powers is connected to City, Castle, Agents, Power Miners, Mars Mission, & Space Police.

Oh, and that Alpha Rex Mindstorms robot showed up in Clutch Powers too.

And Space Police is connected to Blacktron, M-Tron, Spyrius, Futuron, & Classic Space.

And Power Miners is connected to Atlantis.

And Atlantis, thanks to the full-length comic in the Nov-Dec 2011 issue of the Lego Club Magazine (here's a picture of the end of the comic.), is connected to Pharaoh's Quest, Alien Conquest, & Dino.

And then, if you want to consider Ninjago's appearance in Lego Universe canon (which gets really confusing when it comes to placing the events of that story into the main timeline), then Ninjago is connected to Lego Universe.

And if you want to consider all those Lego Club Adventures of Max videos and Lego Club/Club Jr. comics canon, then add Kingdoms, Creator, Chima, Bionicle Gen 1, Hero Factory, & Racers to the list of worlds connected to Ninjago.

And if you don't count The Lego Movie Universe as a separate universe, then basically every other Lego theme in existence is connected to Ninjago. (And with the upcoming theatrical Ninjago movie, we may even see that.)

So if you want to stretch the rules of canon and continuity, you can say that all Lego themes are connected to each other. :P  :P  :P

Except for Bionicle, which has a firm rule against it.

Frankly, although this may be getting off topic, I hope that the Ninjago movie will focus on Ninjago and not too much on crossovers. Earlier TV shows have done a good job of establishing it as its own self contained land/world/place. And I just thought that those guys were just more elemental masters, so they did a good job of integrating the easter egg - if you get it, well and good, if you miss it, you didn't miss much.

I like this episode for some reasons and not others - I like the reveal of the backstory stuff and the reveal at the end, which seems to amp up the suspense quotient. I'm hoping that the background characters will remain background and not over complicate things, even though their powers are really cool and I want to see more. And the remix of the weekend whip/new intro is loads better than Rebooted. :) Thanks for posting this!

An easter egg, same as when Takua appeared in the LEGO Studios Backlot game on LEGO.com, or when Ehlek appeared with a bunch of other LEGO characters in a short LEGO Magazine comic from 2007.

Not every appearance of one franchise within another franchise is an indication that the two franchises share a universe or multiverse. Sometimes they're just cheeky references or shout-outs, like the ancient carving of R2-D2 and C-3PO in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

There are a lot of people in any fandom that'll disagree with that. I just think it's fun to have all or most of LEGO be related in someway, even when I was little The Blacktron use to attack Black Falcon's Fortress every weekend.

LOL funny. Also, apparently smoke is an element now too.

Actually, here's a list of all known elements so far...

  1. Fire
  2. Ice
  3. Lightning
  4. Earth
  5. Golden Power
  6. Metal
  7. Light
  8. Speed
  9. Smoke
  10. Mind
  11. Gravity
  12. Nature
  13. Sonics
  14. Unknown
  15. Toxikita's element (Toxicity? Toxic Waste?)

So 16 elements so far. Bionicle had these...

  1. Fire
  2. Air
  3. Earth
  4. Water
  5. Stone
  6. Ice
  7. Light
  8. Shadow
  9. Sonics
  10. Gravity
  11. Plasma
  12. Magnetism
  13. The Green
  14. Lightning
  15. Iron
  16. Psionics

So Ninjago currently has almost as many elements as Bionicle, which is pretty crazy. If Skylar turns out to have something other than just fire elemental powers, then Ninjago will tie with Bionicle for the title of theme with the most elemental powers. (Unless you don't count Golden Power as an element.) And that's not even counting all the other random people in the tournament and what elemental powers they have...

Except for Bionicle, which has a firm rule against it.

Obviously Takua (Called George) in Lego Studios was only an actor playing as Takua in a movie based off of the real events that happened in the Legend of the Bionicle, and that Ehlek was from one of those Bionicle alternate universes, and it was R2-D2 himself who doodled those ancient carvings, because the Time Cruisers took him there with their time machine.

And yes, I am joking. :P

I really liked this episode, and I agree that it continues the great start that Ninjago has had for this season. Then again, I haven't seen the other seasons beginning to end, so I can't compare this one to them. :P

The challenge in this episode, which was collecting the knives scattered around the building, did a good job of showing off what some of the others could do with their powers. All the Ninjas got a chance to shine here. (Though I wasn't expecting Jay to fight in a bath towel. :P)

This was a good episode and I look forward to watching the next one.

Everyone is one choice away from being the bad guy in another person's story.

Episode 36 "Only One Can Remain"

Alternate Title - "There can be only one!"

Our band of Ninja arrive on Kombat Island and receive the royal treatment. The usual legions of guards performing katas like that means something.  Master Chen arrives and breaks down the tournament, it's March Madness.  Four brackets with head to head competition.  Winners move on, losers get dropped.  But first the qualifiers.

Garmadon warns them to stay focused which is like telling a kid not to spoil their dinner.  Cole manages to do both. The ninjas rooms are full of custom-made distractions: Kai is next door to Kitana, Jay's room is an arcade, and Cole's room has a free minibar.  They didn't even last the few minutes before Chen pulls his first stunt a qualifier round where everyone has to pick up a star chip, battle card, I mean, a jade blade.  Last one without a blade will be eliminated.

Its a free-for-all as everyone fights some using their powers like Prince of Persia running on the ceiling or Ecomancer growing vines.  In the end, everyone gets a blade so its down to Kai and Colossus fighting for the last blade.  Fire loses to metal, so Kai unscrews his hand (ok?) nicks the blade and wins... but without honor.  The ninja aren't too concerned over Kai's 'win at any cost' move.  So they move on to their search for Zane.

The discover a secret passage and after spying on Kitana and seeing her use fire bending, follow some cultists to their off-Broadway performance of 'Temple of Doom'.  Chen plays the role of Mala Ram, but instead of removing Colossus' heart, he steals his metal-bending.  The ninja are discovered and barely escape Clouse's giant anaconda. (Yeah, I know how it sounds.)

Review:

So in my March Madness pick I have Jay in the West and Quicksilver for the East, with Quicksilver taking it in three rounds.  I've got a feeling this will be the East's year.

In this episode, the ninja probe themselves reliable rubes. So they can get caught off guard.  It would have been worth it for Kai or Cole to fall just to put the remain ninja on notice.  There is also the romance they are playing up betweeen Kai and Kitana. I'd be interested, but seeing the way they screwed Nya with that forced love triangle, I think Ninjago should stick with Lego-simulated fights and leave romance in more capable hands like a chimp with a word processor.

The plot does thicken about the Tournament. It is good, serviceable even, but not really high stakes.  The ninja have been without their powers, and I don't think they've used their true potential in 2 seasons.  Nice try, but I had to stifle a yawn over the lost of powers. Now if this were Amon from Legend of Korra, I'd be at the edge of my seat.

"Honor those the dragons heed, in thought and favor, word and deed"

"Worlds are lost and worlds are saved, from those dangers dragons brave"
