I had an idea. A marvelous idea.

 

Adapting musicals... in Bionicle! 

 

Here's how it would work; build the sets in regular System+Technic, and use official LEGO Bionicle sets to act out the various roles, or do what TLM did and use that weird CGI/stop-motion thing. These musicals would be presented under the group title "Metru Nui Theatrical Presents: Title!!!" To quote Roger DeBris;

 

 

Ooo... It's a wild idea, but it just might work!

 

I had a few ideas in mind for what musicals could be adapted.

 

1. Aladdin (Broadway version) with Takua/Takanuva as Aladdin, Mata Nui as the Genie, Moltoran Hahli as Princess Jasmine, Makuta Icarax as Jafar and Turaga Vakama as the Sultan. 
2. The Producers with Tahu Okoto as Max, Pohatu Okoto as Leo, Lewa Okoto as Roger DeBris, Kopaka Okoto as Franz Liebkind, Onua Okoto as Carmen Ghia and Gali Okoto as Ulla.
3. Les Miserables with Matoro (Matoran, then Inika, then Mahri) as Valjean, Mata Nui as Javert, Matau and Nokama (Metru) as the Thenadiers, Moltoran Macku as Eponine, Moltoran Jaller as Marius, Moltoran Huki as Enjolras and Moltoran Hahli as Cosette. 

What do you guys think about this? Could it work? I don't imagine it'll ever happen, but... one can dream.

That sounds about as weird as the spoof of WoS I'm working on in which the Toa Metru are a harem, Vakama is a tsundere and Roodaka is a yandere.

 

I like it.

 

I wonder how Cats would be like. xD

 

It could indeed work, but I wonder would you use the same voices as the musical proper or get some performers?

I went with Les Miserables, but only because its the one I'm the most familiar with out of the three choices. I've never heard of The Producers, and all that I know about Aladdin is from the Disney movie. That is why Les Miserables got my vote.

You don't know The Producers? It's a musical written by Mel Brooks about a producer in the 1950's who learns from his accountant that, with the right scheme, you could make more money with a flop than with a hit. They decide to find the world's worst play, hire the worst director and get the worst actors. The musical?

The movie version has Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Uma Thurman and Will Ferrell, who plays Franz Liebkind, who WAS NEVER A MEMBER OF THE NAZI PARTY! HE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WAR, HE WAS ONLY FOLLOWING ORTERS!

I'd like to see the Broadway version that Disney made. I just see Mata Nui singing Friend Like Me, with a hugely orchestrated dance and lovely (Lego) special effects... Awesome!

 

Of course, Lewa complaining about how his dress looks like the Chrysler Building and singing "Keep it gay, keep it gay, keep it gaaaay!" is something I can't pass up.

 

But Matoro and Mata Nui duking it out... in song! "I am warning you, Javert, I'm the stronger man by far!" "Dare you talk to me of crime, and the price you had to pay?! Every man is born in sin; every man must choose his way!"

Really? Hm... I actually wrote the idea as the MU inhabitants actually performing plays, unedited, but with the Bionicle models. Aladdin might work with edits, but Les Mis and the Producers? Eh.

 

Though, it'd be really funny to see all this buildup to Hitler, then see that he's being played by a, oh, flamboyant Infected Matoran.

 

Nah, then Roger DeBris would have to played by the same guy, and I'd rather have "can't-head-turn" Lewa Okoto play Roger. Teridax can play the big, buff gay guy if he's so inclined.

 

Moustache-Mask Hahli can be the lighting designer; Shirley Marcowitz.

I feel like Aladdin is probably the only play you listed that would be appropriate for Bionicle's target audience, buuuuuuuut.... I love the idea of Lewa and Onua as Roger and Carmel, so my vote goes for the Producers.

This is the most bizarre thing ever, and as a musical buff, I approve. My vote goes towards The Producers.

Bionicle is phenomenal.

Les Miserables is phenomenal.

Together these would be more than phenomenal...it would be a "momentous climax" as Turaga Dume put it.

 

I vote that this happens just btw...only IF I get to play trumpet in the production

I'm putting my vote towards Aladdin, only because it makes the most sense, but I can't forget how awesome LesMis would be starring Matoro as Valjean, but the Producers would be hilarious. I can just see the "Springtime for Hitler" number. Hilarious.
