LEGO Unveils 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier

Recommended Posts

76042_helicarrier_reveal_teaser.jpg

Long-rumored to be in production, LEGO has finally taken the wraps off the latest UCS set. 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier seems like a great tie-in for the upcoming Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron movie coming out this May and features a ton of detail. The set itself will be available in March for $349.99 and contains 2,996 pieces. Read on to check out all the pictures and see the full press release. I'm loving the microfigures included in the set, but clearly the best part is that we get a Robin Scherbatsky Maria Hill minifigure! I'm definitely excited to see more of this set!

I'm not much of a Marvel fan, but BOY IS THIS THING COOL! And those Microfigures are so ADORABLE!!!

Although, interestingly enough, these aren't actual "Microfigures" by the original official term. A microfigure was the mini-characters from the Lego Games sets. These little figures are a different mold, first appearing as a trophy part in the Collectable Minifigures Series. They have sometimes been called Nanofigures by the community. But I'm ok if these are the new Microfigures from now on, because these are ADORABLE!!! ^_^

2,996 pieces? They couldn't throw in four more to make it 3,000? :P

Joking aside, this is probably one the greatest Lego Marvel sets I've ever seen. And also one for the most expensive, because HOLY COW(!) that price is huge!  :o

I'm not much for comics, so my first thoughts were "jesus christ that's huge.... and expensive"

to me the real showstealers here are the ingenious microscale vehicles. the fighter jet is quite clever.

edit: hold on, is that a translucent headlight brick in the micro forklift? that's the first time it's been in any translucent color, i think

"Long rumored to be in production"? Guess I've been living under a rock.

The microscale figures are fantastic as are the microscale vehicles. And while the model itself is nice, I can't get too excited about it due to not being a comic book fan. But I'm sure loads of other people are stoked and I'm quite happy for them!

Transparent headlight bricks originated in the Grand Emporium (where they were used in a jewelry case), and they've been in several other sets since. Tr. Flu. Reddish Orange ones also existed in Aquazone sets from the 90s.

Huh, my mistake. Bricklink didn't show them when I looked them up. They appear to have a different design ID than solid headlight bricks.

I think I just might need to pick this one up. That cost IS up there tho, and it's never going to go on sale, but I think it would be worth the sacrifice of said arm and leg. (Is that the going price? Could I bargin for just two legs and keep my arms?)

It's a fairly impressive build and would be a great display piece. However, I'm noticing a ton of clip-to-tile connections. I didn't think that was a legal connection, even though I know it exists (it's just pretty weak IMO.) Can't remember off the top of my head where another set has done that... unless you count minifigures holding onto 1x2 tiles, I guess.

Odds are they're going to have enough extra pieces of things like 1x1 studs, tiles, cheese slopes, ext, that it'll put us over 3K. ;)

Clip-to-tile. Ugh.

One thing I can't understand is why they still didn't give Hawkeye a quiver. It's not like he's driving anything this time, and the back printed quiver is just cheap and annoying.  :burnmad:

Besides that, this would be the perfect set to 'Assemble' with friends after watching Age of Ultron. :D

Those microfigures are genius and I love them.

The Helicarrier is amazing alone, though just far outside anything I'll be looking to purchase.

I feel the same way. I'll probably buy it secondhand on Amazon or something, or wait tell it goes on sale. (if that ever happens.)

This is glorious. But way out of my price range.

But so glorious.

Edit: Oh my goodness I didn't see those little figures in the post I saw earlier. Those are really cool.

Dat premium licensing markup. It's like fifty dollars more than it should be. For that price, I would have at least expected another exclusive figure. We still don't have Agent Coulson. That said, the kit looks fantastic, and the microfigs are absolutely brilliant.

I have slept for so long. My dreams have been dark ones. But now I am awakened. Now the scattered elements of my being are rejoined. Now I am whole. And the Darkness can not stand before me.

I'm not impressed by those microfigures at all.

Why, exactly? They're a clever way of incorporating smaller scale figs into the set, which otherwise would not have them to scale with it. MOCists have already been doing this with the monochromatic trophy piece, of which the microfigs are a recolor, for some time.

I know it would just increase the piece count, but I was excited when I first saw this because I though it would be able to hold a good number of minifigs inside... looks like they decided to reduce the overall size by intending for microfigs to be used instead. The microfigs just look ugly to me too.  -_-

Is that a new mold for Black Widow's hair?

Now that I've watched the video, I am even more impressed with this set. Being able to move all the turbines at one time is really neat. Plus, its cool seeing how big it is next to someone.

I'm definitely considering picking this up.

Me too. But it'll take me a couple of months to save up for it.
